Force 2D GPU REDENRING- developer settings benefit with adreno 510 - Sony Xperia X Guides, News, & Discussion

Hey guys, I recently purchased the Xperia X and ive been playing around with the developer options on marshmallow. I noticed the 2d gpu rendering makes use of the adreno 510 more efficiently because the gpu uses less power compared to the cpu cores, ive gained around 2-3 hours of battery along with much faster and smoother UI across all form of apps.
However, I need some people to test this more often to really see more benefits
Cheers

my friend i will test it

indeed mate,it was the first thing i did when i got this phone, your statement its true,is not a placebo effect,it uses more the GPU not the CPU.

GPU Tweaks
Soo,,,after i tested old tweaks i made for my xplaystation rom in 2011 for xperia play,i have very interesting news
First of all,for anyone that want to test the tweak
Download root explorer paid from playstore, give root permissions
Go to,System/lib/egl and delete the 2 files are inside,
Download my zip and copy the files to that folder, then give permission
like in the pictures i upload,
go to system, settings, enable developer menu and enable force gpu rendering,
Reboot and enjoy!!!

I enabled it as soon as I got N, and the battery has been excellent (even better than on M). I should probably turn it off and compare...

Forcing it makes the phone get hot really fast using the camera.

All of this is just placebo until numbers can be shown, and even then its not for sure. Even Antutu can be + or - 1000 points depending what cycle the moon is in (joke), but yeah I believe 90% of the scripts out there don't do anything useful at all. I've never noticed a difference. Even the bravia engine is a joke, unless you side by side a hi res picture, you really aren't going to notice difference.
In past, i used this. And i think that is placebo effect, like others. No real or significant results.

To be honest, I don't think people can win. If they start a new topic about something then they are told to use the search as the topic already exists elsewhere but then if they do use the search and find a relevant topic then they are told its too old. How can you win?
In my opinion, if the topic is relevant, the age of the thread shouldn't matter. Its much better to have an old thread with a lot of contributions to it than the same thread posted 100x over.

[Guide][CM9][Easy-to-do] Performance Boost

Found and tested some init.d tweaks for CM9 for me it worked marvelous used in minicm9 nightlies sept.14
How to use:
Part 1
1.Flash latest naa ics kernel
2.download latest nightlies
3.download the attached file
4.extract files to destop
5.drag the 2 ini.d tweaks to rom's init.d folder
(system/etc/init.d)
6.save
7. Debloat the rom (remove unnecessary apps on system apps folder) (optional)
8. put rom to sd then flash
Part 2(more tweak)
1.open rom and go to to /system/lib/egl/
2.Open the file named "egl.cfg"
3.Delete the first line"0 0 android" or something like that
4.Go back into the egl folder and delete libGLES_android.so
Settings that i used:
[email protected] 245-748mhz
cwm swap partition
KSM-on
Allow purging of asset- on
zRam- 26% (use 18 if you want more battery life)
force GPU rendering
allow mock location off (some say it makes battery last longer)
THE TWEAKS ARE NOT MADE BY ME. I'm just sharing

I think,no.
then our phone will have only ICS but we cant play simple video even :'(
It works in Cm7 too, and for dialy use it is really good. It's not just making the phone usage smoother, but dramatically makes the battery last longer. It disables the Cpu rendering everywhere, and only the GPU do it, so the CPU can "concentrate" to calculations in the background processes. I use it since yesterday and started with 100% battery, and I can say it is true that battery is draining much slower.

I went through it. Apparently some of the scripts were optimized for the ACE. I have no problem, however, some of them are optimizing nothing. Example, some of them are optimizing CPU Governors that aren't in our X8's, like Ondemandx and lulzactive. If you want, I can help you make it more X8 friendly

The following quote explains it well :
I have a very valuable use for Mock Locations. I am a full-time RVer and travel the USA constantly. While traveling, GPS constantly tells me where I am. However, when i want to know the location of campgrounds for the night, search engines and apps like "Places" and "Where" will only search the area where GPS says I am NOW. Mock locations (using My Fake Location) allows me to search the area where I WILL BE later in the day by faking the GPS location. Works GREAT.

Nougat upgrade lowered cpuclock??!

So I upgraded my X compact to official Nougat 7.0 a couple of days back and on first impressions I noticed some lag here and there mostly when scrolling
And I knew that Snapdragon 650 is almost clos to SD810 so what could be the problem because it was awesomely fluid and smooth on MM 6.0.1, so I started to dig up and here's what I noticed:
In CPUz app on MM it shows Qualcomm SD 650 @ 1.8 GHz but today I looked it up and in Nougat it shows Qualcomm SD 650 @ 1.4 GHz!!! And if you look at cpu cores, those 2 last core Cpu4 and cpu5 are stopped (i guess those two are [email protected] cores right?)
So conclusion is that A72 cores which are the main core to maintain smoothness are offline for some reason so Im asking developers to dig this up and help us out
Thank you
If there is no activity they should be stopped. My old Xperia M2 usually had only 1 core out of 4 active at the minimum clock. Then sure, if something was running in the background all 4 kicked at the hight clock.
I can't check right now with Nougat (my phone is currently updating to it. But it seems to take an awful lot of time. I think it has been updating for 20 minutes or more. Hopefully it's just updating all Dalvik caches or what they are now), but in Marshmallow all 6 cores were always active even with the CPU nearly idle. In my case I think that helped to cause the somehow high battery drain I had (that and plus wakelocks spamming all time).
But sure, if that means the phone will start lagging, screw it. I could deal with a day of battery life, I sure can't deal (again. And then again and again!) with a keyboard showing up after 1 or more seconds also missing the keys while swiping.
PS: it finally installed. You're right. Something definitively looks wrong with it. The cores 4 & 5 are disabled even with Google Play doing some apps updates. Unless it's because CPU Z isn't supporting Nougat yet. I'll have to investigate more via adb.
PPS: It might be the typical placebo effect but it actually feels even smoother now! So I am not sure what's going on.
Nah definitly not smoother!
I Check with qualcomm app and those 2 core are off all the time and it is lagging very bad in many places
If you wanna see the lag you can go scroll fast in call log or install an app like telegram messenger and scrol in chats
And also I played spiderman unlimited game on it and its lagging there no
There was No lag at all on android 6
Guys please report this issue
I used CPU-Z and CPU N°4 and 5 seems to be stop.
After few hours I am not sur that there are more lag than before.
I made a test with Antutu, I had arround 75000 before the update, and arround 80000 after the update.
I think I will make a fresh installation tomorrow.
I don't have those problems....
edit: I HAVE THIS PROBLEM.....
Guys are you serious?!

Maybe I am but smoothness in compact size was the one and only reason I went for this little guy
And whats the point of havin SD650 if there isnt any A72 cores to operate
And I really prefer a 100% fluid rom than a couple of hours more juice...

I confirm it doesn't lag for me. I checked scrolling through a long chat in Whatsapp and through the list of all my apps in Google Play (the latter has always been slow. Now it loads immediately, that's why I felt it was snappier). Then I tested with Antutu and I have got 74K (not sure why @dcro95 has got 80K, though).
Then if you look in Antutu/Info/CPU/More you see that for core 5&6 it says they are disabled. But at the same time it shows the percentage of their are activity (which, being the cores disabled, should be none). I didn't have time to check with adb, yet. But what I suspected and it seems to be confirmed by Antutu is that there might be a "bug" where the values for the cores active have the "read" flag cleared, like it happened with the minfree values in Lollipop with some Xperia (M2 for sure. It was "-w--w-----" instead of "rw-rw----".
Anyway, in case of your very noticeable lag I'd suggest to first check your stamina settings. If I enable the Stamina the phone lags immediately. Either with Nougat or Marshmallow.
Oh, and it mat not matter f you didn't enable the Stamina before upgrading. After the upgrade plenty of my configuration parameters simply went bananas. It changed my WiFi settings, removing the static address. And in the case of an app (but I imagine more of them at this point), it modified the login. I'm sure the login was correct because I had a widget for that app active (and working fine).
PS: my battery life still sucks, though. Actually it is even worse than before. I may have to backup, reset and restore the phone and see if it helps.

Thank you for you info man but let me explain it to you again
Firstly, what Im saying is on microscopic scale, I do feel even the smallest amount of lag
The laging that comes up after turning on Stamina is waaaay more than the lag that I talked about in OP, of course that is big enough to be seen by anyone!
On android 6.0.1 I didnt see even the smallest lag absolutly nothing! but after the upgrade to 7.0 I was starting to see small lags here and there(you might not even see it! Im very sensitive in this case) like for example when you have 3 notifications try to open notification bar with slow to normal finger swipe down, it lags a little there, and other examples that i said before.
At first i thought maybe the rom is not well optimized but after I saw cpuz I was sure that those cores are off!
On android MM telegram messenger had no lags, nothing! But now it lags a lot when scrolling but i say again this "a lot" is in compariaon to MM! not to Xperia tipo!!!
So I am 100% positive that A72 1.8Ghz cores are not functioning.
Lets go and try to fix that, or wait for an update to fix it.
I created a thread here quoting your first post. Maybe it will get more attention

Have reboot the phone and the core 5 & 6 were activated (up to 1,8)
Just after make it sleep, the core were stopped. Maybe an issue with doze ?
However I can"t say it lag. It maybe a little longer to charge game or big app but I use them to rarely to compare

Hmmm.. Nope, my friend. You talked about a lot of lag: these are your very own words: "it is lagging very bad in many places"
Now if the problem is that you perceive a microlag that could be. With Lagdroid I learned how to ignore that for good.

And I am quite sure that the cores are active, as Antutu benchmark shows in the info section. In the attached picture you can see how Antutu shows that the cores 5 & 6 have a CPU load (which I made it varying moving the notification panel), while at the same time they are shown as disabled. That simply isn't possible. If a core is disabled it can't have any load. So yes, there is a bug, but that seems to be in the CPU monitoring. I doubt we would get 74K or plus in Antutu if those two cores were off.

So what you say is that those cores are functioning normally but its juat showing them sleep right?!?
Then please tell me whats the reason on these even small lags?
Those dont matter actually, I need to know why I cant play spiderman unlimited and asphalt 8 on ultra setting like before
You could test them yourself
See 4 a53 1.4GHz are enough for daily usage but on heavy usage its obiouse that those a72 cores are missing
But there is one probibility, that those guys become active on very high usage like antutu! But I guess thats gonna be VERY HIGH!

I have exactly the same on Antutu, and the max frequency is 1804 MHz.

so i updated gpu drivers and...

...and it gets me some smoother framerates and around 10k more on antutu. but it could be just difference in how hot was tablet in first and second benchmarks.
i'm on oreo stock, t820 model. tried playing space marshals as it is my favourite game and without tweaks... it was unbearable.
with gpu update that you can find here on xda forums it got better. not ipad level better, but decent. still it seems like samsung didn't even try to optimize this tablet. i have read that it lags but i have no ui lag, just graphics lag an stutter, tearing and so on.
if anyone wants to give it a try just search for adreno 530 gpu update. should be on xiaomi mi mix subforum. there are two releases.
tried both and it seems that r8 gives smoother graphics but r15 does not heat up so quickly
Very interesting, thanks! Unfortunately, that's not a surprise. Samsung makes good hardware but absolutely doesn't care about the software.

if anyone wants to give it a try just search for adreno 530 gpu update. should be on xiaomi mi mix subforum. there are two releases.
tried both and it seems that r8 gives smoother graphics but r15 does not heat up so quickly

Thanks for that information! It would be nice, if you optimize your thread description a little bit and inlclude a guide to setup our device, because this is a really useful Update for all tab s3 owners.
It would be also nice if you provide us your benchmark results. I attached my antutu results with the new rev 15 driver, with stock driver and with stock driver combined with magisk gpu turbo bo9st module. The new rev15 driver only gave me 120.000 points, the stock one 126.000 and combined with boost module over 142.000. So on my end the new gpu driver seems to be useless...
*update: it seems like there are huge differences in the atuntu results. Yesterday evening i got with the new rev15 driver and magisk gpu boost 112.000 points and today in the morning i tried again and i got over 170.000 points. very strange...
Thanks in advance.

there is no any special set up. unlock bootloader, install twrp and flash zip that you can find on xiaomi subforums. even somebody posted link in this thread.
the thing with this tablet is that it heats up quickly and throttles like nothing. no wonder you got better score in the morning. i also tried an app called L speed, you can find it on playstore, but it did nothing, just made it worse in my opinion.
this tablet had great potential, but with bad optimisation and cooling... it's apsolute joke. if i could only open it easily to add some copper for better thermal dissipation. and also a modded kernel would help bbut we have none of that
anyone can show a full details on how to install the gpu update? my devices is t825...

You will find the installation instructions here:

Updated adreno drivers?

I do a lot of gaming on my phone and I'm always looking for ways to improve performance and efficiency. I was under the impression that Qualcomm made the adreno drivers upgradeable but I can't seem to find out how.
Also, does anyone know any OOS11 compatible kernels that support gpu overclock? Only one I could find is radioactive that supports 670mhz but I've seen other OOS10 kernels that support higher than that. Thanks a bunch.

What are you playing that it can't run.?
I run emulators, the hardest of which would be the Wii but that runs flawlessly.
Sure there's a PS2 one out there but that's slow because it's not finished..
I'm set to see anything that would require a push from a kernel.
Magisk has upgraded drivers..
If you really must then use radioactive....totally unnecessary but there you go.
Also search for adreno in play store, there's plenty of apps to mod your drivers and such.
I'd be interested to hear what you're actually doing that requires it though.

I definitely don't require it, and you've got it right- there really isn't much you can throw at it that it can't handle, and nothing here is a need per se. I just simply like to have absolute latest and greatest just for sake of having it and that might just be me. As far as things that I have thrown at it that I wouldn't mind a couple more fps, even though at this rate is a bit of a nit-pick; Lineage II Revolution (High pop areas), Genshin impact, Ark, TauCeti, Dolphin emu wii(CODMW3, mostly) games + GC games internal res @ 1080P to be screen cast to my TV. Plus I'm a bit of a benchmark nerd ...because epeen.
Anyways, I appreciate your response and I'm always looking out for your posts as you seem to be one of the most knowledgeable out here :good:
Edit: just realized I mentioned someone named 1080P lol

Lol no worries man. I definitely get what you mean, sometimes it's nice to know you can rather then need to.
Thanks btw.
Also the adreno driver. Be nice if it was more efficient..
I'm trying to break 10 hours consistently, always lands on 9 hours with 15% left.
Currently on EX.

Exactly. Yes, efficiency is always something I'm looking for as well. There's times, especially when I'm home near the charger that I like to crank things up a bit, but always have to be careful running heavy games on the go. 3d mark wild life stress test benchmark used 10% in 20 mins!! Of course, that's not real-world use, luckily.
