[Guide][CM9][Easy-to-do] Performance Boost - XPERIA X8 General

Found and tested some init.d tweaks for CM9 for me it worked marvelous used in minicm9 nightlies sept.14
How to use:
Part 1
1.Flash latest naa ics kernel
2.download latest nightlies
3.download the attached file
4.extract files to destop
5.drag the 2 ini.d tweaks to rom's init.d folder
(system/etc/init.d)
6.save
7. Debloat the rom (remove unnecessary apps on system apps folder) (optional)
8. put rom to sd then flash
Part 2(more tweak)
1.open rom and go to to /system/lib/egl/
2.Open the file named "egl.cfg"
3.Delete the first line"0 0 android" or something like that
4.Go back into the egl folder and delete libGLES_android.so
Settings that i used:
[email protected] 245-748mhz
cwm swap partition
KSM-on
Allow purging of asset- on
zRam- 26% (use 18 if you want more battery life)
force GPU rendering
allow mock location off (some say it makes battery last longer)
THE TWEAKS ARE NOT MADE BY ME. I'm just sharing

About the software rendering removal, please note that by removing that, gaming on our X8's would suck, big time more so on our little phones.

I think,no.

then our phone will have only ICS but we cant play simple video even :'(

It works in Cm7 too, and for dialy use it is really good. It's not just making the phone usage smoother, but dramatically makes the battery last longer. It disables the Cpu rendering everywhere, and only the GPU do it, so the CPU can "concentrate" to calculations in the background processes. I use it since yesterday and started with 100% battery, and I can say it is true that battery is draining much slower.

I went through it. Apparently some of the scripts were optimized for the ACE. I have no problem, however, some of them are optimizing nothing. Example, some of them are optimizing CPU Governors that aren't in our X8's, like Ondemandx and lulzactive. If you want, I can help you make it more X8 friendly

The following quote explains it well :
I have a very valuable use for Mock Locations. I am a full-time RVer and travel the USA constantly. While traveling, GPS constantly tells me where I am. However, when i want to know the location of campgrounds for the night, search engines and apps like "Places" and "Where" will only search the area where GPS says I am NOW. Mock locations (using My Fake Location) allows me to search the area where I WILL BE later in the day by faking the GPS location. Works GREAT.

Faster ICS performance on any ROM

I noticed this juts few days ago and did this on all my family's Nexus S.
Install Chainfire3d
from the market and then open the app and tap to install the driver. I used the normal method not the advanced. Don't set any other settings after your phone reboots. You can if you want to but a lot of aps won't work with those settings.
What this app does is it installs an intermediate open GL driver between the apps and phone GPU driver to give you better performance.
Just figured I'll share it with everyone. It really made a difference for me on ICS speed. The way I see it it should be baked it to all ICS ROMs.
isnt this just used for games?
that's why its called chainfire3D
the whole point is to trick proprietary games "apps" into thinking you have GPU that you don't
so you are able to play tegra adreno..ect games on other devices
dont think its works on anything other than games so i don't se how its helping make overall ICS faster.
ICS is already using our sgx540 just fine
Well, it does and it makes a difference. Try it and see for your self. Chainfire3d is not just for games.
Thank you for pointing out this tweak. I too was under the impression that chainfire was just for games.
Both tapatalk and the browser feel much smoother.
Thanks

Nexus S - CyberGR Hybrid ICS (5), Matrix Kernel (15)
Chainfire dev recommends disabling all driver settings unless being used by a specific applications, per his xda thread:
" I strongly advise that when you are NOT using Chainfire3D for something specific, you disable all the options. This is better for system performance."
Anyone know why? Is he talking about the non-default options?
I don't know exactly, but it seems like it is just to do with the specific settings (inside the default settings section). Using the driver is fine, but any of the options being ticked has the ability to make some applications go awry depending on the device. Those options, i assume, are only meant to be used when you want to use a specific app that requires or benefits from them.
Also, i've noticed great improvements in ES File Explorer scrolling. It would lag a fair bit scrolling through long folders, but now it's nice and smooth.

I'm installing this now... Have you guys noticed any decline in battery life?
Hopefully not :3
Does anyone know if this has the same downside as forcing gpu acceleration in the developer setting? I remember reading the Googler's post on G+ on how it increased the memory overhead by 8mb per app, reducing the memory available for other apps and processes.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
It doesn't force GPU rendering. Alot of the Android UI is already using GPU rendering, using this intermediate driver just somehow makes it more fluid.
Trying it now, though I don't notice much improvements in scrolling.
I use force GPU setting on my phone. With the live OC in Matr1x at 111% (max my phone can handle) it does make a bit of difference in UI. But this Chainfire3D driver makes the most difference for me.
Also, in case you are on a ROM which doesn't let you change min memory settings, I'm using MinFreeManager which is a small app that just does that. The default settings which it comes built in are for GB but you can just change them manually. I don't touch the top 3 and just tweak the bottom 3. I'm currently on:
14,19,24,32,64,128
Does it effect battery drain?
Will this eat more battery juice?
Highly doubt it, and so far havn't noticed anything particularly different on my end. You can uninstall it anyway if it does cause trouble (though might be wise to perform a nandroid backup while initially installing).
Thx man, now trying it!!

Increase performance with V6 Supercharger?! ..try this!

Hey guys , i find that Ram Manager pros oom values for Hard Gaming work a LOT better than the 512hp ledded option in v6 supercharger-- Hell ,any of the settings in RMP work wonderfully... So try using the v6 custOOMizer and add those values . Try it out and discuss! , its working wonderfully for me.
Keep in mind that you should keep a lightweight launcher if you are gonna set it to die hard or bulletproof. Im using Lightning launcher which uses less than 10mb overall.
Results? HTK Launcher + the gaming performance of RMP = amazing!
I could post the values here , but im not sure if im allowed .. please confirm that theres no problem and ill edit the topic to add them , otherwise just google them
Of course i assume you know what V6 Supercharger is and how to use it , if not check out this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=991276/
Its really easy , almost fool proof , but keep a nandroid BACKUP , just in case.
Here's a recent post from my thread

Ram Manager Pro is a scam and a rip-off and lies to everybody who uses it.
It doesn't "lock home in memory"
It uses a modification of my OOM grouping fix (to the adj file) and called it Hard to Kill launcher at first, which I put a stop to, then it was "non-killable" launcher and now it's "lock home in memory"
And it's all a load of BS mixed with snake oil.

That's BS. Supercharger script totally works great. On gb and pics it makes the home launchers faster and more responsive. U might be missing steps when you run the v6 script but its your choice.

My r800x with the v6supercharger and stock launcher was able to play spiderman near flawlessly and without the script it has way too much lagg.
R u sure?? Shouldn't u be running v6 with gamebooster for gaming?? I think that paired up pretty well. Plus we only run the gamebooster when gaming n disable it after. The rest is up to v6 to decide. Its easier i think n much more reliable.

V6 supercharger is amazing, and like zep advertises, it's the only one that does what it does.
Also "lock home" barely works in rmp.
Maybe you didn't notice that there are no launcher redraws?. That alone speeds up the ui a lot.
The problem with game booster, rmp, and v6 is that they work very similarly, so using them at the same time will probably net you some very mixed results.
I uninstalled them all, and decided to keep only v6 with the same values RMP uses for hard gaming as a power shift (for quick use) and IMHO its working amazing.
My gaming performance is top notch and I can quit and open a game instantly. With RMP it was guaranteed that I would get a launcher redraw.
I wish I could post a video, but just try it and see if it works for you.
Sent from my R800i using Tapatalk 2
This has been out for ages even before I joined, search before you post please unless you change this to a disscussion
how have you got v6 to save the hard gaming mode values in rmp I have been trying for over 1 hour ?
Write them down, If you have v6 running, and then run rmp in hard gaming, v6 will show you that the values are different (and it will tell you the current values)
You can also use rom tool box and check the values with the included memory manager... Auto killer will also show you the values.
Also I'm not talking about using v6, I'm talking about using v6 with a specific set of values+custoomizer, which is afaik a new idea.
So yeah this deserved its own topic.
Edit : run v6 and then option 10 (in rc11), it will then ask you to input the numbers one by one.

I think the idea of using v6 supercharger as a script is way beta than an app... correct me if I'm wrong, but won't Ram Manager Pro be eating ram as well as TRY to do what V6 does so flawlessly??
If there were a GUI App for V6 supercharger,I'd still use the script, less ram consumption... beta performance
A GUI is way more noob friendly and frankly , a lot less intimidating. Even if Supercharger is almost fool proof , its still was kinda scared it would brick my phone
A gui app could make zep some money , and i think most fans would support him , if it were cheap enough. I would still run the script unless the app had some exclusive features or something .

Tips to Speed up our Phones!!

Hello guys,
Our X8/W8 is a slow speed device and without proper memory management there would be many lags and unresponsiveness in our device. So to overcome these problems I have some tips and thought that I will share it with all you guys.
These are those tips that I know of and those that I believe will actually speed up your phone and some tips here will also allow you to conserve some battery life too.So here we go:
Dont use too many apps.Delete all unused apps.
Dont use more than 2 launchers in the same device. It will cause a lot of RAM loss.
When selecting your default launcher try to select a launcher that is small in size so that it will ony take up a small amount of RAM.
To reduce HomeScreen Redrawing check the "Keep Home In Memory" app found in almost all Custom ROMs.This will reduce the time taken for your HomeScreen to fully load up after you exit an app.
Dont Undervolt the CPU if you find that your Phone is becoming too slow.
When selecting a rom make sure that your ROM is lightweight(small in size). The Custom ROM runs in the RAM of our device and when the Custom Rom is small in size then it will take up only a small amount of RAM and you will have more free RAM.
Odexed ROMs should technically speed up your Phone but the difference will be only minor.
If your manufacturing date is 11W29 or below then it would be good to unlock the Bootloader and flash a Custom Kernel. If the Custom Kernel is a good one then we can notice a change in our Phone's speed.
Remove all bloatware from the Custom Rom.
Reduce the use of Live Wallpapers.
Turn off 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, Data Services etc when they are not in use. This speeds up your Rom and also conserves your Battery.
Overclocking should be done ONLY when needed so bad. What it does is that it supplies more power than needed to you CPU and tries to increase its clock speed. This may speed up you phone but it also OVERHEATS the CPU and as a long term effect it may destroy your CPU.So you will have to buy a new phone!
Its better to have a darker theme than a lighter one.Darker themes conserves the Battery and also speed up your device a bit.
Dont use a Third Party Task Killer app. Android will manage it memory by itself.
After Rebooting or Turning on the device wait for a 1-2 minutes even after the screen is fully loaded. This allows the ROM to settle and you can use it more efficiently afterwards.
Use of V6 Supercharger by Zepplinrox,The Adrenaline Engine etc has to be considered over Overclocking as overclocking will ultimately damage the CPU.
This list of tips will be constantly updating. If you have any tips that you use to speed up your phone please post it here and I will add it to this list.
Click THANKS if this helped!!
Enjoy!!!!!!!!

In all my life I have never heard this before.I dont think Android will kill the SystemUI. It is like killing itself, and that is NOTlikely to happen. The "Lock Home In Memory" doesnt make your launcher indestructible! It just make it a little more difficult to kill but yet "kill-able".It will kill the launcher only when a lot of other unwanted apps have been killed. That option just gives the launcher a little more priority.
Code:

When you overclock have you ever touched the phone's back???
Well you can see that its hotter than usual. This means that more amount of power goes into the CPU.
For example, You take the case of a LED.When you give it the right amount of power it lights up very well, but what happens when you give it a lot more power than needed??It will overheat and eventually get destroyed.Thats the same thing that will happen here.Overclocking may not explode your CPU but if you have overclocked for a long time and then switch to normal then you can see that the CPU is now less efficient than it was before overclocking.
Cheers
Leon
last mini cm10 nightly + nAa .32 v4 its pretty fast but when I add Seeder app it seems to be a lot of faster.
App is reduced some lags so maybe it's only illusion
By doing implementing these tips you can get a better speed without much effort. But surely these tips wont make your phone an Xperia Z but you can surely notice some effects.
Swapper 2
Does using swapper 2 or a similar application help ?
I personally wont recommend Swaping. It will reduce our SDcard life. And we need to use a very high quality SD card which is very costly and and you will have a reduced life span of SD card too. But if you can afford buying a High Quality Class SD card once in a while then its OK.

[MOD]Disable CPU rendering/Full GPU rendering/Improve the performance of your GPU

Introduction:
The UI of android keeps improving as updates from the android team keep flowing in. There has been a massive improvement in the aesthetics and looks of the system UI from the ancient Eclair till Jelly Bean. With improving UI and better graphics the system keeps becoming an resource hog. All android smartphones these days come with a separate GPU to satisfy the graphics rendering needs of the apps these days. However the GPU doesn’t exactly help in rendering of the system UI that means the load falls of the CPU to render the system UI and other system framework.
so here is a Mod that will disable CPU rendering and enable full GPU rendering, which will let you enjoy the true power of your adreno200!
Improvements:
-Improved performance.
-Blazing speed.
-Better sound quality.
-Improved responsiveness.
-Smoother UI experience.
-Some apps(bloatware) that earlier ran slow like Facebook will turn snappy.
-Free up CPU for other tasks.
requirements:
-Rooted device
-CWM installed 4 or 5!
How to install:
1-Download the file.
2-boot to recovery mod.
3-Make a nandroid backup just in case.
4-install zip from sdcard.
5-choose Zip from sdcard and choose the file.
6-Reboot your device!

Tips to increase performance and increase battery life |Xperia X8/W8

Hey people, this is my first post.
So basically this post is for people still using xperia x8 / w8.
TIPS to increase performance :
1. Install a custom ROM (with a custom kernel). It's no use installing a ROM on stock kernel because it's not very fast and battery life is low too ( I like Minicm7 and Minicm10)
2. After installing the kernel and rom, install a nice launcher. (LauncherPro for gingerbread and nova /apex for ice cream sandwich or jelly bean).
3. Tweak cyanogenmod performance settings : increase vm heap size, allow purging of assets, disable surface dithering, set cpu governor to smartassv2. Overclock if you want but not too much.
4. Use v6 supercharger script. (easy to follow and works great). Do it only if you have custom kernel, because on stock it asks to update busybox which soft bricks the phone).
5. Use autostart manager to remove unnecessary apps from boot.
6. Install apps that you need.
7. Enable "long press to kill apps" in development and kill after you use them like browsers etc.
8. Don't use task killer.
Battery life tips (I assume you are on custom ROM with custom kernel) :
1. Use setcpu and enable profiles. Make the following
A) Screen off - Set Minimum and maximum values of clock the lowest.
B) Battery levels - Choose the maximum to any value below 600 mhz but above 320 when say, the level is less than 40 percent or maximum 480 when the level drops below 50 percent.
2. Make sure you uninstall Dsp manager with titanium backup or root uninstaller.
It sucks lots of battery.
3. Don't set auto brightness.
4. Keep vm heap size to 32.
5. Set governor to on-demand using set cpu for all profiles. AS WELL as for normal usage. (where there are sliders)
6. You may use antutu battery saver. It may or may not work for you.
7. Use v6 supercharger script.
That's it. Press thanks if I helped.

Sir, Thank you for your review and the beer Yes I am aware of the fact that many people know about it but are tired going through many threads so I compiled a list. That's all.
Exactly this thread will be helpful for noobs much. Nice info

@op you may want to review some info. for example, for performance, smartassv2 isn't really the best choice (interactive or ondemand, anyone?). you may also want to remove v6 supercharger since noobs will ultimately ask a lot of questions about it (specially ics/jb users). conversely, ondemand is NOT the best choice if you want to save battery. it has a hair trigger that jumps to max freq and stays there for a long time (like interactive but with different conditions for scaling iirc). there are also lighter launchers than nove/apex/launcherpro. uninstalling or freezing unused apps can also help performance instead of trying to kill them (specially with apps that simply restart themselves). you also have the undervolt option. and updating busybox will not necessarily cause issues if you're on custom kernel. i've updated mine on cm7&10 without issues. i do think gdx (at least on stock kernel) bootloops if you update it. as daggre said, we already have lots of tuts about this, so it would be best to give accurate info or else it will just confuse users.

Yes you can use Swapper 2. Useful only if you use class 6 SD card or above. otherwise no use.

Sorry for the mistakes. I wrote smartass v2 because interactive sucks too much battery and isn't practical to use. I would like to delete the thread. I'm new here so please tell me how. I will update the facts and then write

you'll have to ask a mod to delete the thread. why not just update it though? it's a good thread for new guys. just update some info and you're good to go.
