[Status Report] Z5 Compact rooted on MarshMallow 6.0.1 w/ heavy Xposed use (v86) - Xperia Z5 Compact General

(This thread is for Google's bots sake, I had a hard time finding good and clear infos on the phone (compatibility, Xposed use, rooting), so I'd like to do a little status report for any poor souls lost in the search engines. Some informations in this thread will seem useless, some are just tags.)
Last phone : Stratosphere II, JellyBean 4.1.2, 5 MP camera, physical keyboard, very cheap in early 2015 (imported phone, couldn't send pics)
Why the Z5 Compact : As little as the Stratosphere, 6.0 ready, PS4 Remote Play ready, way faster hardware, way more features (and I can finally send **** pics)
I received the Z5 Compact 5 days ago (July 19th) and started my path to salvation, thank god I was in vacation, the rooting, xposing, and troubleshooting were a pain in the ass.
Phone Model : Sony Xperia Z5 Compact E5823
Phone Build : 32.2.A.0.253
Android Version : MarshMallow 6.0.1
Network : Orange F (France)
How to unlock the bootloader : Sony's website
Rooting Method : Tuto from Dean F
Status : Successful rooting, couldn't backup the TA & DRM keys (PC wouldn't recognize the ADB'd device)
Xposed Framework Version : Xposed v86 SDK 23 (arm64)
Xposed Installer Version : XposedInstaller_3.0-alpha4.apk (Official Thread)
Status : Successful Xposing, stable so far, no bug, no crash, no bootloop
Working Xposed Modules Installed
Battery Home Icon v1.2.2.5 -- (home button serves as a battery meter)
Blurred System UI (LP) v.1.1.1 -- (transparent header/quick settings, blurred background when notifs/quick settings/recent apps in foreground)
CPUTemp v1.4 -- (CPU temp in the status bar)
Custom Battery Meter v2.2.1 -- (in status bar)
DynamicAlarmIcon 2 v2.0.0 -- (alarm's icon shows the alarm's time)
Forced Screen Rotation Mod v1.5.1 -- (choose the behavior of normal rotation and auto-rotation, best god damn module)
GravityBox [MM] v6.1.4 -- (compilation of tweaks)
NeoPowerMenu v1.5.2-1 -- (customizable power menu)
Recents Floating Apps v1.2 -- (additional small/floating apps)
Smart Network v1.7.1 -- (switches networks off when screen off)
Xperia/AOSP NavBar Buttons v5.2 build 07222046 -- (additional navbar buttons)
Youtube AdAway v3.2.4
Youtube Background Playback v 1.8.27 -- (god's work)
The "overheating" of the device
As people mentioned, some past Zs were heating more than the Z5C, also, the materials used in this thin phone conduct the heat easily, so it feels hotter than other phones, don't worry too much about it. If you're scared, get CPUTemp or others, to always have an eye on the temps. Past 60 celsius you can start to think, below, don't worry I suppose.
SPECIAL MENTION ABOUT THE REMOTE PLAY APP
The official Remote Play app becomes incompatible with rooted devices. Which is an absolute shame for a fast Sony device. There's a solution to this :
PS4 Remote Play for Android
Version used in my case : RemotePlayPortV4.0.apk
Status : Works perfectly

You do not have to deodexed your stock rom to use Xposed?

Hi French guy!
I've replaced my z3 by a z5 compact buy at Darty.
No problem... 253, twrp, root, xposed and androplus kernel.
While gaming overheating, impossible to see the 8 core online at the same time. For me performance was so restricted...
I've found in z5 (full size) an other gouvernor settings that enhance lot of thing, heat, performance....

I have absolutely no idea. I don't believe mine is odexed, so did I deodex it without knowing it, possibly. I downloaded a ROM from that one software the tuto provides.
(BTW, don't bother quoting the whole original post. It clutters the convo.)

Hahahaha I'm sorry for making a mess out of your thread. I'm impressed with your theming skills.
I'll give it a try tomorrow and see if it works.
One more thing: did you change any of the buildprop? If you did, please share!
Thank you

Nah I don't recall changing anything. I did install an app to modify it but I only checked the file once and that's it.

Not tried yet (maybe in the next day or two) as currently liking IUNI very much.

Please give us a review when you can mate !
So i tested it. It Seems to be based on CM11s, because it has seems to have all its features (hardware/softwarebuttons toggle, the phone setup screen, theme engine with hexo theme, double tap to wake etc.)
Everything is translated except 4 (5 with keyboard) new apps (propably because its just themed cm11)
It comes pre-rooted with super user in settings.
The theme chooser isnt accessible normaly but i got a notification from a theme update which linked to the theme chooser
Features:
- nice design
- toggleable app drawer (standard disabled so you have only homescreens like in miui but shortcuts are removable and then not accessible with disabled drawer)
- All pop-ups appear on the bottom of the screen
- Changed about phone screen
- Shades app (really just like the Brightness toggle in quick settings)
- File manager with ftp and root support (but i couldnt get do /data)
- pre installed terminal emulator
- Now Browser as standard browser
There are 5 new Apps:
- Some sort of Hub app. I couldnt figure out what it does
- iFlytek Input ( a keyboard, its pretty crappy if you ask me)
- App China (probably the app store because there are no gapps)
- A music player (auto album cover download and theme support, changable accent color)
Screenshots:
http://imgur.com/a/aJb5F
Here are /system/app and /system/priv-app dump. Interesting are probably the launcher, the theme and the shades app
Dev-Host (attachment wasnt working)
In conclusion this is pretty much just a pre-themed cm11s with some small nice additions and disabled theme manager
Also been running this and have switched back to IUNI as I'm experiencing some bugs which make fundamental operation a problem and frustration.
No doubt they'll be fixed over time but right now, for me, this is not ready as a daily driver. Not close.
1. Some text is not visible. That is, it's near white on a white background. Theme needs some ATD.
2. As above when setting a pattern lock, there's no way to what you're set pattern is - it's a stab in the dark (white on white again). Found this out when setting up a VPN which requires a pass code or pattern, which leads me to....
3. VPN was not working. No problems on other ROMs or devices so I know the provider is OK. Maybe a CM issue.
4. Rotation lock is messed up. Lock it and it only works in some apps. File manager ignores it and goes into landscape mode which the makes the launcher go landscape too but then doesn't rotate back even if you disable rotation lock and the phone itself. To fix it, I have to go into something that obeys rotation lock (settings) and back out again. Or sleep/wake. Very tedious.
5. AppChina (?) FCs on boot. Easy to delete with RE I suppose but odd on first clean boot.
This was after only a few hours but: a) I need a VPN; b) I was tired with the messed up orientation issues.
Maybe give it another try in a month or two after a bit more polish.

Then it should work

[ROOT][KK 4.4.4][XPOSED MODULES] What Xposed Modules are you using?

I thought I would start a thread for z3 compact owners who have rooted, to share what Xposed modules you are running (assuming you are indeed running Xposed - if you are rooted and you're not running Xposed, you should be!)

Xperia Xposed + GravityBox
Do Xperia Xposed and GravityBox overlap in features? I've read that GravityBox offers a ridiculous number of customisations, but does not completely work with the Z3C. Would it be advisable to just choose one (either GravityBox or Xperia Xposed) and forgo the other?

Gravitybox has more customisations, and suprisingly most of them worked on the Z3C (D5803). However, after certain features were enabled (could not pinpoint which ones), the phone started to lag. It was very noticeable when switching applications and opening recent apps - so I remained with Xperia Xposed & XBlast

Maybe yes! About GravityBox module, I just know it is an outstanding all-in-one module.
Modules can conflict each other due they try "hooking" sometimes same method!
I can better say about my own, it was completely written over Z3's framework files as its basis, and it was meant just for Xperia devices running sony stock fw.
Guys, not sure if this is the right section to post this to, but since you all are experienced xposers here it goes:
Is there a xposed module that can increase the size of text boxes? You know, when on Whatsapp or FB or even just the normal sms app I would like to be able to see more than just the usual 3-4 rows while typing.

Have been to Apple phones for a longer time (iPhone I got from work), totally missed this Xposed thing...
Thank you, I am using it with Gravity Box enabled now. It has some cool features.
Modules which have not been mentioned:
Heads up Notifications
MinMinGuard
Smooth System Progress Bar
All Notifications Expanded
heres a detialed list of what i use:
20MP superior - allows multiple resolutions for the superior auto mode (including 20mp obviously ).
Blurred System UI - makes ui translucent/transparent in quicksettings/notification panel/tasker.
ChromePie - Adds pie controls to chrome(note as to when I'm writing this, ver 0.3 isn't working on z3c download v0.21).
Complete Action Plus - a more flexible complete action with menu.
CrappaLinks - Allows apps to use shortened links.
Disable Desk Dock - when using a magnetic charger disables the screen rotation.
DoubleTapToSleep - double tap to sleep on your statusbar.
GravitiyBox - This one has a lot of features some work on the z3c and some don't. Specifically I use:
Lockscreen -> double tap to sleep (double tap on lock ring puts device to sleep)
Navigation Bar Tweaks -> Disable camera icon on lockscreen.
Power Tweaks -> Proximity Wake Up - this basically fixes the "overly sensitive screen" bug, no more pocket wake up. been looking for this one for ages.
Physical Button Music Control - this one gives a lot of options to customize your physical buttons to work with your music.
Smooth System Progress Bars - Allows customization of the progress bar(color/width/style etc..)
VolumeSteps+ - changes how many ticks EACH of your volumes has (small note since i derped with this one - more ticks = less change per tick, I for one thought the opposite :silly: ).
XBlast Tools - this one also has a ton of feature but I've found them to be quite buggy, so I used this just to change my carrier text in notification panel.
XPrivacy - gives you the control over what information an app can access (it feeds fake information to apps that demand certain info).
XPrivacy in App info.
Xperia Xposed - best UI customization app for the z3.
YouTube AdAway - bye bye ads.

First huge thanks for @33bca for helping me with building Paranoid Android for Mi5s Plus
We’re really excited to announce that we are releasing our Nougat flavour of Paranoid Android. We have a lot in store - with a mix of both features & improvements.
First & foremost, we have moved our code base to be fully CAF based. This brings many improvements to your device. The key improvement here is that Qualcomm hardware is better tuned on the CAF base and with our additional optimizations we can provide a smooth and fluid user experience that will let you enjoy using your device without any lags.
On first launch you’ll notice a clean setup with a beautiful wallpaper from Hampus Olsson who’s teamed up with us again and created several beautiful pieces of artwork. For those of you who don’t know, Hampus is a multi-disciplinary artist whose work stands itself and we’re glad to have him onboard. We have also added several new features and made improvements to the UI of the system that we believe would enhance the overall experience.
Pie
We’ve been working hard on redesigning this key feature of our portfolio and we’re really happy with how it has turned out. The whole design has been reworked and it fits in well with the overall feel of Google’s Material Design. This gives you the opportunity to use more gesture based control for navigating, rather than using the standard Navigation Bar at the bottom of your screen. Expect improvements and additions in the future.
Color Engine
We’re proud to announce our newest feature - Color Engine. Color Engine allows you to seamlessly change the colors of your device to be in Light, Dark (Pixel) and Black modes with a variety of accent colors to choose from. This makes changing the theme of your device really quick without having to install any extra packages on your device.
Pocket Lock
This feature prevents any form of accidental input when your device is in your pocket by disabling input sources. You can simply release Pocket Lock by long pressing the power button as highlighted by the minimal UI incase of any sort of obstruction or dust on the sensors.
Accidental Touch
Accidental Touch is a feature useful for many, especially the gamers out there. It prevents any sort of accidental touch on hardware buttons while the touchscreen is in use. This means you won’t experience any unexpected behaviour while playing games, web browsing or even when attempting to reach your finger out to the edge of that humongous display.
Major features:
- Reworked Pie
- Color engine
- Pocket lock
- Immersive mode
- Buttons customization (including navigation bar)
- On the spot controls (OTS)
Minor features:
- SafetyNet Compatibility
- Battery/Notification LED control

Install instructions
We highly recommend you to follow these instructions very carefully. Users usually tend to skip a few steps and eventually fall in trouble. Are you with me? Good. Let's get this train going.
Just a few things to keep in mind first -
If you're coming from another ROM / Stock, your system data (not internal storage) will have to be wiped. This includes apps, accounts, messages, call logs etc.
There's been some users complaining about different GAPPS variants messing up installs and causing a ton of issues. Upon investigating it seems OpenGapps Mini/Nano work best.
Understand that Paranoid Android is a custom ROM and it might lead to addiction as it's relatively good. We shouldn't be accused of anything just incase your cat starts drinking wine. Things get a little woozy in the Paranoid World.
Some brain might be involved if things go wrong. Not a lot though, as much to solve what's 1+1.
Okay let's get to the main bit.
We recommend a full wipe.
Flashing order:
1. Back up to PC everything you would need (whole of Internal Storage including and not limited to
Titanium Backup folder, Music, Pictures, etc)
2. Flash TWRP
3. Format all partitions except the "internal" partition**
4. Flash Firmware zip
5. Flash AOSPA zip
6. Flash Gapps zip
7. Flash Magisk or SuperSu (optional)**
8. Reboot System
** SuperSu 2.79 and earlier is confirmed to fail. 2.82 is tested and confirmed to be working.
First boot time would be about 3-4 minutes on an average.
In case you are encrypted, read on:
9. If you were already encrypted, it asks for a password (pattern or pin), provide and if it goes
through, great and go back to Step 5
10. If you’re stuck, ONLY then read on…
a. If in case TWRP doesn’t accept your password and says ‘Can’t Mount Storage’, you will
have to use FASTBOOT from a PC to go further from here.
b. Assuming you have FASTBOOT working and it recognizes your device, the following need
to be done:
1. fastboot format userdata
2. fastboot format cache
3. fastboot format system
4. fastboot erase boot
5. fastboot reboot
7. Reboot phone into Recovery
8. In TWRP, Wipe – Format Data.
9. Install from Step 5 onwards.

Thanks!!!!, I'll give it a candle.
Could you help to upload the rom to AndroidFileHost.? Cause it's really hard for me to download from Google Drive.
Could you please port this to mi5s. We really want to try AOSPA. Thaaaanks!
Nice rom, thanks for it. But is it possible to bring in this rom some features like changing power of light to navigation hardware buttons and one-hand mode? This very useful features are in Lineage OS.
I would really love to try it. Is there anyone who installed it and can help us with some screenshots or even better a screenrecord? Thanks!
What's the difference between CAF and LineageOS? I'm talking about the core system, not the UI and other added tweaks.

This ROM is not Android GO
firmware will have a prefix (-GO-) from this day, so as not to be confused with our foreign colleagues.
@hussein1 : What about Bluetooth vs. WI-FI download speed issue (download speed very slow when bluetooth connected).. Is it still there, Please?

New Build is up:good:
Changes:
11/10/2018
1) Return of the access point
I would rather see just one Pixel Experience, but unfortunatly LuizH007's (@SanicM2) developement is not as advanced as Waiser's (I'm not talking about capability, I mean bugs in the ROM). Of course, maybe LuizH007 doesn't have the same time to dedicate anymore.
Actually, there are three Pixel Experience ROMs, but Waiser's and LuizH007's ROMs have the same goal. So, it would be great to see both working together instead of this separated developments.
By the way, Waiser's version is the less buggy one.
Furthermore, thank you @hussein1 for opening a new thread about Pixel Experience GO.

I am a professional web developer if you want to build an official go rom website feel free to contact me brother...love from INDIA..
so, any thoughts, comments, pro and cons?
I'm using this build for a long time day by day, not the "original", but I think it's better. The updates come faster, always fixing any small issue. And overall feels a bit faster than the other PE release. And I don't need a lot of customisation like in the PE Extended or other roms, so I'm happy with this build and stay with this
But I don't want to say which version you are using, test it and choose.
OK, I downloaded the rom in OP post, which seem to NOT be the last version.
9/11/18 version in the op.
As soon as I installed the rom, in first boot(no problems by the way, 4 minutes to boot)
a ''new update available'' pops up, suggesting to download.
Another 1.05 Gb to download and start over
WHY?

In your thread, people talk about:
1. Instable autofocus (or refocus - it seems to had been solved reinstalling the GCam);
2. VoLTE not working;
3. Charging LED not working;
4. Automatic brightness always high;
5. Cast Screen not working;
6. Settings app crashes after opening IMEI menu;
7. It's no possible to set SIM 2 in mobile data;
8. Saturated colorson some screens;
9. Only one flashlight working;
10. Wi-fi turns off after DOZE activation.
I haven't installed your ROM because of this complainments, afterall, all of this works great in Waiser's build. Nonetheless, I apreciate your work too.

Waiser's build update daily, weekly. Fix bug very fast. When I used your build, I had waited one month to fix led notification. I dont like that. By the way, thanks for your work.
Am I the only one experiencing very slow fingerprint unlock? It takes a lot for my device to wake from sleep, actually also double tap to wake is slow :/
Also Pixel live wallpapers are very laggy

64MP is working
slow motion does not work time lapse does
documents scan doesn't work

@AndroidHQ254 Hi... I flashed this ROM using TWRP recovery on my Mi Note 10 lite yesterday and I love it. The ROM is extremely beautiful and fast. But, there are issues that I have noticed.
1. Camera is working but taking 2 or more photos crashes the camera. sometimes after taking one photo the camera takes to the launcher's homescreen.
2. Charging is extremely slow. Mi Note 10 lite has fast charging support of 30W, but this ROM is only charging the phone at 6W-8W. is there any fix to it?
3. I was using Instagram. the video's thumbnails show the right colours but when playing the video it shifts the colour to bluish/greenish shades. This issue is not present in Facebook or Youtube apps.
@AndroidHQ254 Hi. How can i update the v1.9 to v2.1 ROM without flashing it again on my phone?
PS: No updates are shown in the System update section but v2.1 is already out.
