System update for boost mobile, virgin mobile, and sprint odin flashable full tars.. - Samsung Galaxy J7 Guides, News, & Discussion

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=samsungupdate.com
Version f3 is available now in this app. I saw it on the forums here so i checked the app and its in there iam downloading now its the full tar.. boost mobile xas and sprint is spr and virgin mobile vmu.. enjoy be sure to get yourself a copy of stock before you do anything else.
For some reason the file doesnt let you see it in a standard file manager so once you download it make sure you have this app below installed.. in youre notifications at the top of youre phone press on download complete and select open with zarchiver once it opens press and hold on the tar and select copy and copy it it to youre internal storage. Hope that helps. Took me 3 tries to figure it out.

Does anyone know why a zip file wouldnt show up in standard file managers. I had to use zarchiver to open the zip then copy the tar over to internal storage...

Alternate Way of Sideloading apps: Sideload Wonder Machine

For those of you who are uncertain of how to use adb commands or are afraid of editing their db check out the link below for more details about the app.
This is a quote from the site below explaining what it is:
"It's a Windows application that lets you sideload apps on ANY Android device, on any carrier, without the Android SDK installed. And you DON'T HAVE TO BE ROOTED"
Sideload Wonder Machine
***Note I am not the developer of this app or have any connection to it other than the fact that I happened to see the post and figured I would spread the word to everyone here. I have tested it on a ATT Captivate (which was already rooted) and it works as described.
so does this mean you can load any .apk file from the web into this Sideloader program and when the Captivate is plugged into the computer it will install it without issues?? and no need for modifying the no-market value settings thru root explorer?
Sticky Needed.
IT WORKS!!!
I tried this program yesterday and can confirm that it works
so its a cleaner way to install apk files into the captivate instead of editing the dbsettings file?? do I just save the apk file to my computer then just plug the captivate into the computer then select the file and run the program?
This lets you sideload any app (.apk file - android app file extension) that you can download on your computer, and it does not require rooting.
You need to download the samsung drivers for the phone (sammy website), upgrade to .net 4 (google search), download the wonder machine program from the beginning of the thread, and turn on usb debugging on the phone (settings>applications>development>usb debugging on)
Download an .apk somewhere on the net (I chose bansai blast as my first one). MOVE THAT FILE INTO THE FOLDER WITH THE UNZIPPED WONDER MACHINE. If you don't then you will get a "loader.bat" not recognized error when you hit go. Next, plug in your phone, pull down the notification tap and mount your sd card to the computer (I know that the instructions on android central say to keep your phone in charge only mode, but then the program will not find your phone if you don't mount the card). On the wonder machine hit choose file, and select the apk file you downloaded (again, in same folder as wonder machine program). Hit ok. Then hit go. It should pull up a dos looking command window and display your serial number (If you have a firewall like zonealarm, be sure to let the program access the net and your trusted zone - serial won't display if you don't) and a "press any key to continue." Do that and it should take a second to say "install successful. press any key..." Check your phone and the app should be in your apps list. Hope this helps, as it took me a while to figure all this out.
droid explorer offers better functionality. still, good find
with droid explorer am I able to copy the dbsettings file directly to my micrsd card then open SQLite from my phone edit and paste back into the origin dbsettings and overwrite it? or does that have to be done thru the comp??
I can confirm too that this program works great.
Sorry for the late responses but here they go:

That is correct, plug in your phone, place the apk anywhere on your comp, and browse for the apk thru the app. this then installs the apk directly into your phone.

With this app you do not have to edit the db, the only down side of this app is that you have to install the apks via your comp.

You are right, with this app you lose a bit of flex ability since this method installs via your comp. But for those people who dont want to edit or use the adb push method it could not get any easier. I personally end up installing apks when i am on the road all the time so i prefer the permanent methods on my phones.
this works awesomely!
just make sure to put the .apk's in the same folder as the sideload program
+1 to this. Not the most convenient method but quick if you have your computer with you
i hate logging into windows. I'd love a mac version!
but I do have this on my windows ( i believe it is an androidcentral.com app ) and i used it a lot until i started messing with my phone and learned about adb.
I just wanted to say thanks for the quick guide. I was concerned about messing around with the db settings and screwing stuff up. I have absolutely NO problem installing non-market apps through my pc--thanks a lot dude!
I've been using it. My phone is unrooted. I used it to add 2 apps. A live wallpaper and a need for speed game demo.
Thanks to all of you !!
by following all that you posted I was able to root with super user , save with rom mgr , load wireless tether which was my goal.
Just to update were i screwed up must remember with super user (update zip) put the whole zip file on phone as a stand alone not in any folder . With side loader must be in the same folder as side loader to work , of course with micro net 4 installed, on the pc and debugging enabled , samsung usb driver installed on pc and superuser must installed to use side loader
thanks for all you help !!!

The content is not supported???? HOW???

Im trying to download something from 4shared.com and when i go to download it says content not supported. So i download anyway and when the file is done, its a .bin file. Also wouldnt download any apps when i was using MIkandi also. Just got a new replacement and never had problems with my other.
Bin files are just like zip files, they need to be uncompressed first. Download the file on your pc first, extract the apk, then send to phone.

Same problem here, it doesnt make any sense that it has always worked before and all of a sudden it fails. Another way around it is download it onto the desktop, and then send it to the phone, but its just not the same as before. Anyone?? Ive tried to unmout SD card, format, clear data.cahe, clearing download manager, no success.
download somethinglike Androzip, than it will associate the file extension with that app, allowing you to download it.
I've seen that a couple times on the stock browser but never while using Dolphin on desktop mode.

[Q] newb trying Dextermod 1.3

I downloaded the Dextermod 1.2 without issue to my sd card, but applying mod didn't not show android market but did erase any apps loaded from appoke market. So I found and tried to download 1.3, but it does not ask to change file name and then says download unsuccessful in the notifications bar. Tap it and get popup, "Cannot download. The content is not supported on this phone." So I try the 1.2 mod again and get the same message. Anyone else with this problem or can help me with a fix?
Downoad it on a computer and put it on your sd, android webkit browser doesnt like zip files.
Rename it Update.zip before running.
Looks like your new like me. I downloaded to sd card. (make sure card is clean. I had a problem with that first-no windows files) Also I downloaded file from my pc to the card in a dongle Then transfered card to the A7. went to file manager. found the file on the card (elocitymodv13) under sdcard\sdcard-disk0 and then press on it until menu came up and hit rename and then renamed it update.zip. finally go through the routine of powering off A7, then hit power key for 2 seconds, let off, and then hit power button again until message comes on screen about entering recovery mode.
Then use the menu key on side of screen to enter recovery menu once the android image shows up. you then need to use search key and back key on side of screen to move up and down the menu. First move highlight down to "Wipe/factory reset" and hit menu button to apply command. (Dexter recommends wiping the slate clean to ensure proper function of his mod.) When that is done, you will see the menu again and move down to "apply sdcard:update.zip" and hit menu buttom to apply command. this will then put the new mod. on the system. The only other thing that will be neccessary is to go back and download the "ElocityMod v1.3 bluetooth fix" http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890042 . This update gets applied the same way as above except you dont obviously need to use the wipe/factory reset command again. This will give you bluetooth function back. I hope this is clear enough.
I have been trying since I got the thing to tether it to my windows mobile phone. Good luck with that. I still haven't found an answer. take care.
file name
as stated
download the file to your computer. then rename it to update. Just
update
You don't need to put .zip at end because its already a zip file. Then transfer it on to your sd card. Easiest way is to open your My computer drag and drop to the dir that is sd card on your computer that way it automatically goes into the root of the sd card.
then do the as stated flash update procedure.

Jesus, this just doesn't stop.
The file NEEDS TO BE Update.zip
Please read the writeup I just made this morning describing why people are getting screwed up on this, how to fix it, and why I rag on people like you who put out misinformation.

Getting ROM from Kies Download

I'm not too sure how many people know this, but when Kies is downloading your new ROM, you can copy it and put it somewhere on your hard drive for use later on (if necessary).
On my computer (Windows XP) Kies puts the ROM in the temp folder, on my computer, here...
C:\Documents and Settings\Ian\Local Settings\Temp, where Ian is my name on my computer, you go to where all your files are located.
While downloading the new ROM it'sin a temp file called tmp1B2.tmp.
Once it's done, it puts the file in a folder called tmp1B2.tmp.zipfolder
Just copy the file from this folder and paste it anywhere you want.
The file will disappear after your phone is finished upgrading, so make sure you don't wait too long.
Ian
Thanks! Though I don't suppose there is a method of actually getting the firmware WITHOUT actually going through the process of upgrading?
You can also download the firmware straight from Samsung using check fus downloader without even having to run kies.

Google drive

Hi. Is my first time using Drive and after trying to download a ROM from "x" googledrive.com site . the only way to get that file is using google drive ( go figure ). The problem started when my only option was saying : open file using es file explorer . no saving file option anywhere. So I opened it...waited for the big file to download to drive then opens ( extract ) the ROM zip file with es file explorer but there is no option to save the zip. So now I opened my google drive app and I found the ROM zip file in "recent". Since I don't see the word Save or something like that. I used download and the file started downloading ( I thought it was like saving from drive to my sdcard ). So OK I waited again for the big file to download just in case I clicked also on Keep on my device. Now I did a search and I can't find it anywhere in my device storage or sdcard. I tries the move option and it only let me move within the folders inside drive or create a new one.
What happened to the easy way of click on download...save...done?.
How can I do something as easy and fast like that when I download something using google drive?

There should be a little i icon on the file. Press it then "save a copy". I think that's what the process is like now. It used to say download a copy or something similar.
