I'm on the original PB5 with changed APN settings..I assume that will be lost with any system updates. Correct? But with the linked method, I'll still have hotspot?
TIA

Your modified APN settings wont change unless you do a prl or profile update, cant remember which one was it. That link that I provided is a work around to get free hostpot if you got your APN settings gray out after the update like myself. I just installed the PF2 update and haven't been able to check if still works but it does work on the previous updates. The only bad thing is that you need to restart your phone everytime you want to turn on your hostpot.
Sent from my SM-G935P using XDA-Developers mobile app

I just tried this work around on the newest update PF2 and it doesnt work, they fixed it. Dont update your phone if you still want to have hostpot.
Updated: It does work, after several tries got it working.

Has anyone tried the hiddenmenu.apk from PB5 on the newer firmware to see if it allows editing of the apn settings? It worked on the note 5 when this happened. If you took an older hiddenmenu.apk and pushed it to the newer firmware, it allowed for editing. I think the one from LL even worked on MM.

I'm on PB5, and if you flash the PB5 firmware, the APNs are already unlocked. Here's the hidden menu apk.

Thanks. My phone is coming this week, so I'll try it if someone hasn't by then. Whoever does, just remember to rename the old one first and set permissions.
It has worked on the Note 5 and a few other devices...so it is worth a shot. Also, has anyone tried to edit the telephony.db with an sql editor? All require root though...sorry.

It didn't work on my 935U ROM.

I wonder if it is because you are on that firmware instead of 935P? I wonder if because it is basically a carrier free version if that is why? Did it ever work on a U firmware?

I could edit my APNs so far under 2 circumstances.
1. After I had my 935P DSU'ed.
2. After my phone was DSU'ed, I flashed the phone to 935U and put in my AT&T SIM card. Although the 935U ROM automatically filled in the AT&T APN, I could still add, delete, or edit my own.
When I rebooted my 935U phone with my Sprint SIM, the phone got locked down again after a Sprint profile update.
Once my phone contract is over & Sprint DSUs it, it can then become a true 935U phone.

As for flashing PB5, from what I've heard from others that tried that weren't already on it the answer is no. As for the hidden menu apk, I don't know. I'm still on PB5 and you're on PF2. You can give it a try

NK2 OTA

For what it's worth this is an interesting piece of the file contexts contained in the new NK2 OTA. I'm very curious about the very last line with "itson-bootstrapper.sh". This doesn't appeal to me in the slightest. I'm gonna hold off on this OTA until I know for sure how it effects our phone. For all I know our phones already have this bootstrapper but I'm thinking it probably doesn't... and now Sprint is ready to begin using it on our phones. I thought some people might find it useful and interesting. Anybody have any info about this? I'm not that familiar with Itson but I think it's something new.

Please google Itson and Sprint...it is BAD!!! Very BAD!! The HTC M8 was the first to have this enabled in the 4.4.4 update and it has caused huge battery drains running 50% of the battery down...and randomly...can be fine for days and just start up again. Also it cannot be simply removed or frozen with TB or you lose all data connectivity! O.M.J of Bad Boyz with Captain_Throwback went through everything and found all the places it was integrated, there were many and all had to be removed. Then everything was fine. This is basically some kind of network spyware Sprint has partnered with and are royally screwing up. Also check the Sprint Community boards about HTC M8 battery drain caused by Itson.

Our phone came with the bootstapper, but I believe that it was dormant. Maybe this update activates it? Here's a link a previous discussion. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=56966767 Also, @Team DevDigitel has a thread, in the general section.
I also deleted any and all files mentioned a while back pertaining to ItsOn and even took the 6-7 lines out of the build.prop and my phone hasnt had any hiccups .
This update is mostly to support the Gear VR and install Oculus software on the phone

Its been a while and i tried to find directly, where the files were located , some even in system/vendor i believe. As far as the build prop edit, you cant miss it, its 6-7 lines by themselves with ItsOn as the header ..just removed the contained section of lines.
Beside it's on anything beneficial ??

I can't find the galaxy care app in the playstore. I'll try finding an apk later.
These forums are so dead and samsung stopped giving out the monthly builds they were doing.

They'll need unlocked handsets as they are bypassing carrier stuff.

well, you have it in download mode in that pic, so it seems that youre wanting to flash a tar file via Odin. The pic is a bit blurry, but it looks like a G900F, is this the case? Does it not boot? What are you trying to accomplish? Whats the symptom?

well, if youre able to boot to download mode, then you might just need TWRP and a custom ROM. sammobile.com/firmwares (specifically https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G900F/ for your phone) is THE reputable place for tar.md5's, but is known for its slow speed and if your computer goes into hibernate at all, the downloads will fail. But, you might be able to get away with flashing TWRP, putting your choice of ROM on to your sd card and installing it from there.

But, you might be able to get away with flashing TWRP, putting your choice of ROM on to your sd card and installing it from there.

androidfilehost is always a good alternative, but finding one can be daunting. The G900F is a very popular phone, so it shouldnt be that tough to find actually
here is a german 6.0.1 tar.md5. Should have whatever other language youd need in it as well

Ok So I tried using that rom with Odin. But it seems to have failed. And it tells me to use "kies" recovery.
I even searched that And found the software, but it wouldn't run on Windows.
So just what am I doing wrong here?
I downloaded Odin installed it, ran it under ap I chose the German Rom listed above. After a while it appears next to ap so I start the process off and eventually it says FAIL on Odin and my mobile says I need to go into recovery with kies.
Uhm this is starting to annoy me now [emoji15]

sms/mms works fine after you flash fix step #9. For Wi-Fi tether you will need to use galaxy tools apk, to use click enable hotspot, then click wifihotspot settings, done. I really can't find anything else not working, but the usual fingerprint.

You should provide original thread link to Ram kernel and stuff, so people can download there and thank them.
Thanks for providing everyone here cdma instructions and fixes.
I've been using this Rom on this phone but I use gsm. Running really smooth.
Just fyi. I went there and thanked them as well. I just started here because it was Sprint related.

Had to install nova was a bit tricky getting past the fc. But after that it was fine. Battery consumption was a bit high but I believe that was my kernel.

On thread there is a systemui fix. And also a Rom control zip.
But you don't flash until you boot Rom to setup screen. In other words:
Follow directions here but when Rom boots to setup screen, reboot to recovery and flash they modified nougat system ui zip. Then reboot and continue. All should be fine! Was for me.
Even though i eventually went back to nova launcher cause that's what i use!
Also not to conflict with op here. But I've found that Ram v5 works best. But that could just be me.
Here's me on Nova Prime! And Rom control pic.

Oh. I forgot. What might be working good on mine is Force doze. I found this force doze app, and it works on this Rom.
If you want a try!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-forcedoze-force-doze-mode-screen-t3377694
I installed it as a system app though!
Also, yes 5hrs sot is very good!

Android kernel and system battery drain

Is it possible to reduce the battery drain from this without root?
I disabled all bloatware, but I still cannot get through the day.
I don't want to lose android and Samsung pay by rooting.
Any suggestions?

How did you disable the bloatware? I mean which app did you use? Package Disabler Pro or BK Disabler? Or something else?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T377A using Tapatalk
I used package disabler pro.
Thanks

Have you tried Greenify? You can use it with or without Root. In your case without. It will hibernate many apps to save your battery.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-T377A using Tapatalk
I'll try that and let you know.
If I root? Will I be able to use android pay or Samsung pay?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk
I setup greenify, but I'm not sure if it will help much if the apps killing my battery are related to the android os and android kernel which it will not shut down.
Do all Android phones have this issue? Or is it better with the newer phones like s8
I need to stay with a att branded phone because I need wifi calling

Android pay works but Samsung pay does not.
I froze everything on the bloat list in Packager Disabler Pro. And a few other things on the system list. Like Direct TV and most of the Samsung junk.

As for rooting I followed this procedure: https://forum.xda-developers.com/tm...eres-how-rooted-nougat-s7-edge-g935t-t3567502
But for applying the root.bat I used this post: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=71700562&postcount=688
I have been running the root for about 6 weeks now and have not had any problems with the two post above. Just follow the root.bat in post #688 and make sure you follow the way @Quickvic30 says in that post. You should have no problems and takes about 20 minutes to complete.
Will this work on QE1 build?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk
Yes. I am on QE1 myself.

Thanks

Is there a way to go back if it does not?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk
Yes in the post it gives you how to return to stock. Before doing anything, make sure you have all the files on your computer. Get the latest stock files, I believe QD2. I know QE1 is the latest version but I had QD2 and got QE1 Ota. Then both version of Odin 3.12.3 and 3.12.7. Get the Adb drivers and the root.bat files. And finally the eng.img provided in the first post.
Good luck...

What did you do to get that great of battery life? I was just rooted but went back to help with battery and performance. Just curious I might want to root again
I followed the 2 links in the above post. Just follow those and you should not have any problems. Make sure you follow the instructions in the #688 post and that will install the ROOT.BAT and make a few tweaks that will help with lag and your battery.
