[Zenfone Selfie] Enable Adoptable storage on Stock ROM ? - Zenfone 2 Laser Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
Like the Zenfone 2 Laser (ZE500KL), Adoptable Storage is disabled by Asus on the Zenfone Selfie (ZD551KL).
It has been confirmed by several owners on the net -and I too- and by checking Asus' Android Marshmallow Stock ROM changelog.
I have the Zenfone Selfie and I do really need Adoptable Storage. I saw some people tell it may be possible to enable it back (with adb, etc), but I dont know if it really works.
Here are the guides I've found (ordered by most promising link first):
http://www.asus.com/zentalk/thread-79993-1-1.html
http://www.zenfonehelp.com/2016/06/asus-zenfone-sdcard-to-adoptable-storage.html
https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg4/comme..._your_lg_g4_stock_no/?st=iqoyswji&sh=ce67ad13
http://www.asus.com/zentalk/thread-69149-2-1.html
Can someone who upgraded their Zenfone Selfie (ZD551KL) to Android Marshmallow confirm if they managed to get Adoptable Storage back with one of these guides ?

Delete this comment please.

I did this on my ZE500KL and is working:

Thanks for the reply, but that's still don't confirm for the Zenfone Selfie (ZD551KL).
By the way, you've confirmed it for the Zenfone 2 Laser ZE500KL, which I also have and will try on it
Also, how did you root your ZE500KL's Marshmallow Stock ROM ?

By the way, are you sure your phone is truely rooted and that apps needing root really works ?
Because in the official SuperSU page on XDA I put up here, the developpers says your phone must already be rooted before flashing SuperSU: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1538053
Edit: Your phone may not be rooted, because another member got a problem when he "rooted" his phone the same way you did: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67975226&postcount=16
He got a problem with BusyBox, does yours works perfectly ?

Is rooted. SuperSu is rooting your phone when you flash it, all what you need is the bootloader to be unlocked. The root works fine for me, the only problem is that I need to enable it in ASUS Auto Start Manager or it will not start at boot and will not be able to grand permissions I used the SuperSu from here and everything is working.

I also got the same confirmation from the other member, everything's working now.
I also wouldn't have known for ASUS' Auto Start Manager, Thanks !
The problem was that he used a beta version of SuperSU, while telleing others to also use it
Although, I still find SuperSU's official XDA page warning -aka being root before flashing SuperSU- a bit strange though...

I think that warning is for an old SuperSU when the phone was new or something like that. I'm glad that is working

Adoptable Storage is a new feature Google introduced in Android Marshmallow. It can "adopt" your SD card and extend your internal storage. Is there any word of CyanogenMod or any other coustom ROMs for this device yet? Just picked up the LSMG550 this evening. Rooted using the guide in OP (also linked at the bottom of my post)
My question is this; Are there any coustom ROMs, or a bloated stock ROM for the LGMS550 (Metro PCS variant LG G Stylo 2 Plus)? I could not find any in my searches, but that is to say I didn't over look them.

We have no developers I don't think , we out sourced to get recovery and root. . But it's cool because we have root and Xposed I'm pretty happy
So I have been using my phone rooted with boot loader unlocked... If I re-lock the bootloader does that remove root from the system??.. Sorry, a bit of a noob on this. Secondly, if locking back up the boot loader does not harm root is there a reason one should do so?

I don't think you can run root with bootloader locked,i could be wrong. But if you lock it your phone will probably reset itself to factory so I would think root would be gone. Also don't think the twrp will work with it locked
OK. I wasn't sure. This is first phone I had to Unlock the bootloader to gain root. My previous devices I used king root.. So this whole process of rooting the LG stylo 2 has been a learning experience. Thank you for your help.
How do I install V4A if I can't swipe to allow modifications. I don't want to brick or bootloop.
Nvm figured it out sorry for being a noob
Few tested Xposed module which works on stock ROM:
1) App Setting ( change DPI to 270 safely, anything below that will give you continuous phone app crash), you might have to change the LG system level apps(Phone, contacts, music, camera) DPI to 320 for them to work.
2) GravityBox MM (many options work) including the circle battery, clock, date, data speed indicator

Helium ES and some other apps don't ask or see my root

I recently rooted with cf autoroot and installed helium which asked me to connect to desktop as though it wasn't rooted. I have had no problems rooting a note 3 and tab s with helium but my note 4 has 6.01 so I'm wandering if there's an incompatibility. I then installed es file explorer and lo and behold it doesn't recognise root either.
Titanium and sold explorer have no problem so I can't see what the problem is.
I decided to see if installing supersu as system might work but this option is greyed out telling me that I has system - less root mode. I don't understand the difference and when I check the same option on my tab s and note 3 this option is available.
Can anyone help me with a workaround whilst keeping stock rom if that is indeed the reason why Helium as es don't work?

I presume you mean as root? I saw some threads in the s7 forum which suggests it works unrooted. I haven't tried that yet.
And btw es explorer works fine, I just had enable the root option.

Even if you're not rooted will not work for you.. you will get stuck at enabling usb debugging and asks you to enable PTP mode and it never pass this step..

ok understood. Shame that the developer has abandoned this app. I tried to contact support but he doesn't answer anymore.
Maybe adb backup /restore is the solution.

Maybe it's the version of MM, I don't have the most recent one. DPH1
I am rooted on stock but as I say Helium still doesn't see root. Desktop works.
Not sure what screenshots you want but here's one of Helium ready to backup and one of my about screen.
Try starting a adb server manually,
Run adb, check and devices, run desktop or chrome helium tool.
Chrome tool definitely works on my one plus 5

root for NEW 4gb version of Tab 3 Pro (YT3-X90F)

Hi,
I cant find nothing about rooting the version of tab 3 pro, featuring 4gb ram and 64gb rom.
I success root this tablet, but its seems dont works very well with some apps that can't be named in this forum, so I think the root is not "full".
I follow the Magisk tutorial to root, basically install drivers, and with fastboot unlock the bootloader. Then flash supersu and Magisk, in this order.
Someboy know more about this model? we can get a full working root?
Thanks!!!

Root for SM-t377a (ATT Galaxy Tab-E)

Is there a way to root the galaxy tab E that comes from AT&T? I've found a TWRP image for the SM-T377P version but nothing for SM-T377A which is what I have. I was thinking they might be cross compatible but if they were, I'm sure TWRP would have listed it on their site.
The option to OEM unlock is in the dev settings list so I'm thinking I can flash the recovery but I'm not sure on that.

You can Google "replace Kingroot with supersu". There is a 4 step method for replacing the temp Kingroot with chainfires SuperSu. Even if bootloader is locked. Just found one of these in Facebook marketplace for $50.

I think this tablet sucks, too. AT&T hoodwinked me into getting this thing, and now I'm stuck with it for 2 years. It's slow and choppy--I'd rather have an iPad. My "Next" contract is just about up, and I can't wait to dump their ass for another carrier.
Agree. Hoodwink is exactly what they did. This tablet is SLOW and the bloatware is chewing up RAM. I'm about to dump it for something else. Was hoping to be able to root it so I could kill off some of the bloat, but no joy....
-Z
I knew I should have checked here first... but at least I can return it... I figured a device of its age would for sure have custom roms and root. Stupid at&t! Guess I'm back on the search for a LTE tablet that works on at&t for under $300
Hi, recently I bought a cheap AT&T Tab E. It has only 4GB internal storage instead of 16, weird? The tab is almost useless because it has almost no space for new files/apps. Anyone knows what's wrong with the tab? Thanks

Totally new to rooting in general, and researching isn't going well as I don't have any context/experience yet...and the vocabulary is new. I have (literally just bought a few days ago) this version of the Tab E...and I'm trying to root it so I can use it more effectively as a head unit in my 03 F150. I'm finding out I bought the wrong unit to do this reasonably easily.
Would you mind posting a quick walkthrough of how this works? Install KingRoot and then replace it with Supersu to get the tablet permarooted?
Thanks!

Not a big fan of youtube instructional videos, first one available, not sure if its good........
https://www.google.com/search?q=rep...0j7&sourceid=chrome-mobile&ie=UTF-8#kpvalbx=1
This is a guide with a one-click .bat file to supposedly do this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/a310/general/how-to-remove-replace-kingroot-kinguser-t3308989
Directions for manual replacement:
https://missingtricks.net/replace-kingroot-kinguser-with-supersu-superuser-android-guide/
Remember, this is for you replacing "TEMP ROOT", not when a device is permanently rooted! This means being in the position of Kingroot barely getting temporary root that will be lost when device is rebooted!!! It involves using Flashify (by Chainfire as well) and authorizing it's root ability to flash.
As in every OP on XDA, do so at "YOUR OWN RISK".........

[Unmodified] Pre-rooted firmware for SM-G361F

Hi everyone,
Today I am posting this thread because of some idiots who are now sharing pre-rooted firmwares for SM-G361F that are full of bloats.
I am sick of that, this is why I upload the archive of the first pre-rooted firmware I got that was at least clean.
You can download it here: https://mega.nz/#!oqpRhZJZ!B18uTiB3TH-QfChoqjgWCNmaPjqInPZbFyI4u9-T8s4
Note: This firmware is ONLY for Samsung Galaxy Core Prime SM-G361F devices with AOG1 build.
Of course I don't own the firmware and I didn't root it, I just keep the right to upload it.

You can download it here: https://mega.nz/#!oqpRhZJZ!B18uTiB3TH-QfChoqjgWCNmaPjqInPZbFyI4u9-T8s4
Note: This firmware is ONLY for Samsung Galaxy Core Prime SM-G361F devices with AOG1 build.
Of course I don't own the firmware and I didn't root it, I just keep the right to upload it.

Although I have no use for it, I did test it out and...
...I bricked my device.
Nah, I'm just pulling your leg! I tested her out and she is perfectly functional. Much better than that, what was her name? Andro-Woman? Or was it Andro-Man?
She seems like a woman to me.
Much appreciated and thanks alot, Hank Cyclone, which is your new nickname.

Glad to hear that worked fine for you (actually there were no reason for this to not work...).
BTW why she? Is this your new girlfriend now?

Pre rooted
Hey,can you find SM-G361F pre rooted version for this device?
BaseBand G361FXXU1AQA1
Build number G361FXXU1AQD1
I can't find it anywhere
I love what you're doing. All other pre-rooted ROMS are full of trash. Could you make it for G361FXXU1APA3?
Hum... OK guys thanks for the love but I have to remember you something.
I am not a developer yet and truly not a ROM unbloater: I didn't "disinfect" the firmware, I just reuploaded it (well after a fast check, I found I've already prevented about that, just read the thread please...)
So no dudes I can't do that, sorry. I COULD eventually do that, removing bloats and extract system image to make a flashable shouldn't be as complicated, but I do not have time.
Sorry to disappoint you.
Hey Atronid, you rock! I have the AOL1 but intend to give it a try cause I already rooted it but it's full of bloast. Do you know if I can flash another pre-rooted firmware considering I did this already? could this be harmul? -brickful? )-

I don't think doing this will brick your device, but careful. Ensure the usal requirements are here (OEM unlock, USB debug just in case...) and you made a backup, also in case something goes wrong.
But if you're rooted you got plenty tools that can remove bloats from your device, but I hope you're not easily scared because once removed system may spam that the bloat you just uninstalled has stopped. You can get rid of that by just rebooting your phone.
So you don't need to reflash any firmware if you just want to clean your phone up.
Yes, you're right. The problem was that the apps I tried to remove other apps weren't the right ones, but now that's sorted thankfully On the other hand, as I couldn't find an Android 6 ROM for my phone (not even a sorry recovery.... ) in the end I set my mobile to install new apps on the sd card by default. Actually it works similarly to the app Link to SD, so a part of it is on the SD card and the rest (like the data it generates) in the device storage, despite all the tutorials sell this method as "Installation directly on your SD card". You need a computer and official Android development tools (SDK). In case it's of any interest for anyone I'll include the tutorial I followed, but it turns out I'm not allowed to post links yet, so the title of the article was Cómo instalar aplicaciones DIRECTAMENTE en la tarjeta SD from androidjefe website. In English, How to: Force Android to automatically install apps to SD card from softonic website
I hope it helps

Read first post. I don't think it will work if you have a build other than AOG1.
And you should not use TWRP to flash like this. Use Odin and Download mode instead.
Will this rooted firmware work with my SM-G361F phone? Need advice...
Hi there,
Will this rooted version work with my phone?
I'm new here and need some help and advice re Rooting this Samsung phone SM-G361F - I'M NO TECHIE but have ability to following instructions and make connections etc. My phone details are below.
Baseband G361FXXU1ASC1
Build LMY48B.G361FXXU1AQD1
Patch level is 2017-4-01
Security software version ASKS 1.2_161011
I did once try rooting a Samsung tablet using Odin and it all worked OK, but that was a while ago.
How important is it to get the identical build or baseband? Anything else I need to check?
I was trying initially trying to change the phone's MAC address, as I was experimenting with the phone, however I could not use an App to do this as it stated phone that the phone needs Rooting first for App to work. Also tried Terminal Emulator app but it kept failing to work as I was probably, unable to input the text commands required correctly.
I hope someone can please help and advise me on this.
M
Kind regards
