This can be fixed by flashing an IMG file
Your phone is encrypted that's why, just remove encryption by booting to TWRP, enter password and wipe only Data
1. Flash same recovery given by developer.
2. Decrypt phone by formatting.(backup first)
My friend had same issue.
I flashed the twrp recovery (karate.img) mentioned in Lineage os 15.1 thread.
It resolved the error then.
Other way to install TWRP is.
1. install latest magisk apk.
2. Root using SuperSU ( flash SU zip file using TWRP).
3. extract the boot image of the custom rom you are using.
4. open Magisk and click install magisk, select "patch boot image" .
5. select the boot.img file you extracted, it is now patched by magisk and stored in downloads.
6. go to recovery , lick install, click install image, select the patched boot image , select Boot Partition to flash .
7. Flash it and Enjoy.....

What you need:
MOTO X2 2014 Victara device
( Unlocked boot loader having TWRP 3.2.1.0 old versions won't work for 8.1)
[GUIDE] (Please Read from point 5 onward with concentration)
1: Download ROM and Unofficial 8.1 Gapps nano or as your taste from below links
2: Open TWRP and prepare all internal storage backup and your NANDROID backup.
3: Open Wipe, Advance Wipe and Change file system and Format Data, system, Cache with ext4
This will erase all your data (If you are already at ext4 then no need to wipe with ext4)
4: Now in TWRP connect device with PC or have a OTG USB with files and copy files in internal storage i.e. ROM zip and gapps zip
5: Now flash ROM zip and reboot system and setup everything in Lineage setup
6: You will see some Chinese apps, You can remove them by Root uninstaller, this ROM is rooted by default.
7: Go to setting, developer options and click advance reboot.
8: Now reboot to Recovery and go to gapps and flash then reboot. (You must have latest gapps from opengapps.org or you will need to update play services manually)
Here you done.

Here is the patched Magisk 21.0 boot image for US phones (international). I didn't name it anything fancy, just trying to get it uploaded for people.
Remember to flash in both slots in fastboot.

open beta 3 patched boot.img in2025
How about a patched boot.img for open beta 3 for in2025? finally got open beta 2 rooted and updated to 3 , tried installing magisk direct and to inactive slot which failed every time. Kinda disappointed by the lack of support for this phone.
If you can get a hold of a full rom for beta 3, you should be able to get a copy of the stock boot.img using Payload Dumper. You can patch it using Magisk Manager w/o root and try booting with it first (before flashing it directly).
If the latest Magisk Manager from the Stable branch doesn't detect root properly (shows N/A), I'd recommend trying the Beta Branch.
Once you confirm you have root detected and working properly, you can reboot back into Fastboot and flash the boot.img you used.

Here I am about to first answer the question for an old version of Magisk, and then ask for some help for the last version of Magisk.
What's the problem with Magisk and the P8 lite 2017 ?To install Magisk, we must install the apk (the app), and patch a kernel partition.
The problem is : in Emui 8 (the OS of the P8 lite), the kernel is fused with an other partition (a boot partition I think). Therefore, impossible to just patch the kernel and reinstall it, it doesn't work .

Try this way out (EMUI 8):
1. You need stock ramdisk.img , you can extract it from service ROM (aka full stock ROM) using Huawei update extractor
2. Copy stock ramdisk.img to the SD card
3. Download and install magísk manager 24.1 apk, link
4. Using magisk manager patch the ramdisk.img
5. Install magisk-patched-ramdisk.img ( in TWRP or in fastboot mode)
It worked for me on P20 lite running EMUI 8.
@-Alf- I tried your advice, seems like it worked on emui 8 for me too (at least once every 2 attempts or so).
But when I try this on DotOS, the version provided by Altaïr, it doesn't work any more :/
The phone Isn't bricked but it has not effect
