Free xperia play at google io !

The giveaway took place in the C++/Game Developer panel, which discussed the use of native code in Android applications (games, in particular, are likely to use the NDK as opposed to standard Dalvik). And aside from winning some karma points from developers, Sony’s motivation for handing out the phones are pretty clear: give developers a phone that features the gamepad, and they’re much more likely to make sure their games work flawlessly with it.

Does anyone know if these are carrier unlocked and able to connect to Fastboot? I'm seeing a few popping up on eBay in the $500-$600 range and I think I'm going to take the plunge.

If they're from Sony then they're most likely unlocked phones. I can't imagine them going "here, have a phone, it only works on -network- though"

I got mine from ebay for 475 best offer. Its unlocked no carrier markings. Its from Google io so I would assume so. They were given to devs

Wow! I got one for a Best Offer of $550. Now I feel like I should have gone lower. Ah well. I was expecting to pay at least that anyway. Better than spending around $700 for one.

i might resale. the price is fluctuating seen some for 500 or best offer and seen some on auction going up to 625. i have to see. devs are selling their plays and keeping the tablets. i seen the tablets going for $1000+

Excuse me for my ignorant question but is it correct to assume that even though these Google I/O Xperia Play's are unlocked that it's only for SIM and you would still need to use Gingerbreak to get root access right?
I'm asking because I'm in the process of buying one so I want to know how much I need to tinker with it. I also assume I won't need to debrand it and that it is pretty stock no?

From what i could tell on eBay there were a couple CDMA phones.
As well the GSM ones all appear to be the exact same phone as the Canadian one R800a just unbranded so i'd guess root access would have to be done via gingerbreak, however as mine arrives monday i'll update if this is the case.

Lucky you, i ended up at $540 as my timing sux.

Awesome phone at crazy price. I also got the dock and it looks very good.
I got it on ebay for $450 (item number 120725728032) and add a 10% back in ebay bucks as I bought it before the IE9 + Window 7 8% bonus ebay bucks ended. Very sweet deal at $405 + $7 for almost overnight shipping. I think the seller didn't care for much profit and also he didn't mention R800a prominently to get attention.
It's not much thicker than X10 and is actually a little shorter. The four buttons it has should have been on Arc along with the front camera. Will be using it for a week or two before I pass it on to my son while I go back to my Arc.

I have one of these coming tomorrow (ebay, ~$500 shipped). Is there any difference in software compared to the Verizon model? Is it going to be primarily stock 2.3?
This may sound like a foolish question, but, considering these aren't widely available, does everyone think these will get proper updates from SE?

Has anyone gotten the verizon version of one of these phones? I was thinking about grabbing one on ebay before they disappear to use on my verizon account, but wanted to check ahead of time to see if the bootloader on the developer version would be unlockable. Can anyone confirm this?

Sony's event today--What a letdown

All they announced was a Verizon Z3? Not even a Z3C? What a bunch of hype for nothing!
So glad I didn't wait on this event to buy my Z3C, but disappointed not to see more U.S. carrier support. Oh well.

I agree, I am very upset that there was no mention of the Z3C at all. I might as well buy it unlocked now.

I bought it from a vendor named Delta Mobiles on Amazon. It was about 15% more expensive than Clove, but I don't have to worry about imports and it was on Amazon prime so it has easy and free returns if I need to return. Total cost was $550. They ran out of stock after I bought.
Using on AT&T and it works great so far, but I've only had it 1 day. But very promising, might turn out to be my favorite phone ever because it's a great combo of reasonable size and flagship specs.

I found DeltaMobiles on Amazon. Its $535.00 for White Z3C with Prime Shipping. And Chase freedom gives 5% back making it $508.25 shipped. Too bad the Green Color isnt in stock atm. I wonder how the warranty will be handled in the USA..
I think I'll sleep on it over the weekend and make my decision then. Thanks for the info!

Heres an article hinting that the lg g4 will be coming out possibly on June 4. it talks about Verizon releasing a hint on a pic, Not 100% sure were the pic is though.

I'll be ordering whatever day it is. But that is an interesting subliminal message. Seems reasonable as there would be no other reason for that date to be on the phone otherwise.

It would be such the Verizon thing to do to release maybe 2 colors and then in 3 months a new color. In this case, I hope leather is an option up front BUT I bet if it is, they will likely then release a different leather in a few months.
We may end up having to make a G4 back swapping thread so people can swap/sell/trade various leather colors to get the one they want. For example, I like the mustard one and I bet no way will Verizon get that. But if Verizon does black, maybe I could swap with someone.

June 6 was an early rumor date. I've read nothing official from verizon about a 6th date.
We now know, 100% confirmed, best buy preorders can pickup in store the 4th. No one else from Amazon or Verizon direct have listed any official price, dates, models - only best buy.
I have seen nor read on verizon or any best buy site - which has the 3 models listed for purchase and all are $609 and no leather is listed - of verizon showing any leather let alone leather at $650. I also remember those as early on rumors.

i hope verizon doesn't put its ugly branding on this phone

I love how it's the same price for leather or plastic.
If only it was compatible with Verizon, I'd pick it up from T-Mobile.

Well I've tried to but it would appear that T-Mobile is not interested in my business. I kept getting an error that my information couldn't be verified and I'd need to go into a store which I won't be doing. I cannot believe how wireless carriers can screw up the simplest of tasks like purchasing a phone. I give you my address information, my credit card info and you send me a phone.. Not rocket science...

T-Mobile is REALLY good at pre-orders, as long as the system doesn't mess it up. I ordered my S6 the first day, 3/27 (a friday) and got it 3/30 (that monday). No complaints at all, aside from the phone being an overpriced defective POS.

The UK, Netherland versions e.g. carphonewarehouse etc come with the plastic backs if you ordered a leather version. This has been confirmed. I'm only hoping the U.S. variants will do the same.

I don't know, but that link I listed is a Tmobile unit (non US). I wasn't sure on the pricing structure in those countries. Since I haven't seen a retail unboxing of TMO's G4, I will hold on to hope. Most likely won't happen though.

1) You pay $50 or so in taxes (at least I did as a NY resident). I was hoping it would be tax free because online, but alas, tis not.
2) There is a mandatory $15 SIM Starter Kit that you have to pay for
3) There is no TMo logo on the phone according to customer service
4) You will need to apply for an unlock code by submitting an unlock request by calling customer service at 1-877-746-0909. That is, if you plan to use a different carrier like me.
5) As stated on Droid-Life by SDotNYC, you must go to www.lgg4t-mobilepromo.com to get the 128GB SD card by submitting proof of purchase by July 6th.

The website for the free SD card finally started working for me but you have to submit a copy of your receipt and a picture of the box showing your IMEI or MEID. So you can't actually submit anything until you get the phone.

Mine gives me a generic message asking for MEID and receipt and to come back when I have them. Site must not be fully live yet. No place to enter that info.

I plan to use it on Cricket (basically AT&T). I compared the bands specs via a document on Droid-Life and PhoneArena and the bands are the same as they were on the LG G3 which works with both AT&T and Cricket obviously.

How to order without upgrade or adding a line
Gee, I hope I'm not thick, but the only options I see for buying are upgrading or adding a new line. Someone kindly explain how to buy without the hoops.

You just missed out. It was available in both colors for about 24 hrs. They must have had alot of stock. Over 400 people looked at this thread.

I think they're back in Stock. Just added one to my cart to see how much he it would cost. I think it just became a steal at 346 shipped. That's awesome! Crete an account with Jet and you get it for even cheaper!

As soon as I saw the deal, I had to battle with myself over ordering and possibly having the order cancelled or driving myself across the street to Best Buy. I decided to try and I got lucky for once with this phone. I've literally cancelled 4 orders that got delayed so even though I didn't want this color, I finally got the phone and for a steal.

Yeah, and now it's showing the grey one starting at $519! ? But the gold is still not bad at $361.
