Is there a US release date yet? - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

I'm currently looking at an upgrade for my LG G3 (which died so now I'm using my old S4) and was looking at the OP3 when I stumbled upon this phone, which I'd never heard of. Overall, it sounds great but I can't seem to find an actual release date anywhere (which is concerning, as someone who waited far too long for the droid bionic back in the day and after months upon months of waiting, settled for a different phone). Does anyone even have an approximate release date for this in the US? If it's not sometime in the near future, I might just snag the OP3 and go about my day, but I'm hoping someone has heard something about it.
Thanks!

No there isn't and do we need a new thread for this question every week?

Honestly, that's my fault. I try not to revive old threads (since that usually has people's heads exploding) and had read the other thread with the same topic and thought it was from last month (rather than a few days ago).
Sorry about that!

If there's a release date, it will be probably be a sticky thread with plenty of comments.

So, I'm not sure if this is valid but I was comparing a few phones on phone arena and noticed that there is a date included there. Apparently, it says July 30th . . . Below is the link I used:
http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/ZTE-Axon-7,OnePlus-3,HTC-10/phones/10068,10017,9582
Here's the full info page:

No idea where they got this date (or if there's any truth to it) but figured I'd share it all the same.

Well Canadian website mobilesyrup reported that the phone will come out later in the year for Canada. If Canadian and US releases are linked would that mean Q3 or Q4 release? I hope not...

These companies need to get their crap together. I was going to go for an HTC 10 but due to AT&T not carrying it and the only other option being directly through them, I was opting for this, as it's cheaper outright.
Now they're flopping around with a release date for this. I need a new phone ASAP due to mine having issues. They're going to force me into an OP3.

Same here, I pre-ordered the HTC 10 and for some reason HTC cancelled my order. Now I want the Axon 7 but ZTE doesn't want my money. OP3 is getting closer and closer by the days...

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as both of you. Being on a 3 year old phone that was already dying when I originally switched from it, I kinda need a phone fast (especially since the camera on it has a cracked lense so I can't take pictures with it). Between that and the likelihood of the ZTE bootloader being locked (I know some people in here think that's not going to be the case and I hope not but if what I've read is correct in other post, ZTE keeps their phones pretty locked down. Probably even more likely with that Passport 2.0 system they'll be supporting), I'm starting to think this is not going to be worth the wait. If it comes out in July, I'd still ideally like to wait a while to read some quality reviews and see what happens in the development community before I jump onboard. When I consider that over buying the OP3, which is all ready to go, unlocked, and with an active developer community, it's kinda hard to justify waiting it out (especially if I have to potentially wait until the end of the year since no date has been confirmed . . . which SHOULD be the easiest thing a company can do. Provide a release date!).
Good luck, everyone! I hope you guys get the phones you want!

The only big issue I have with the OP3 is I keep hearing about LTE issues with AT&T, who is my provider.

Hmm. That is a concern as I have AT&T as well . . . I was concerned about the Wi-Fi, based on what I've read . . . but the Nexus 6P seems like such a step back at this point and I don't want to wait for the Nexus "Marlin" to see if it will be a decent device (and for a decent price).
Man, such a great opportunity for ZTE to step in! Too bad they can't seem to pull it together!

Much in the same boat as well
Sitting on my old Nexus 4 and would like to pick up the Axon 7. But OP3 is calling my name if I don't hear anything about a release date for the Axon 7. Both of them have the needed band 12 for T-mobile and that is what I am looking for.

WIith OP phones, you are pretty much doing beta testing for them for first 3-6 months. Both OP1 and OP2 had tons of bugs and nagging issues at launch. I owned them so I know.

Band 12 means nothing unless you get T-mobile blessing to use it. I don't see OP doing the extra work for it. OP2 doesn't have it and I doubt OP3 does either. USA isn't their market.

One M9+

Should this of been what HTC launched as the M9?
It would of been more of an incentive to upgrade going by the specs.
What's your views on the recently announced M9+?

I decided to skip M9 and get M9+ instead, unless the later M9 Eye is even better...

It's being released for China only, so i'm not worried at all. The one we got now is quite a beast and can defo stand up to the others.
But yes, it's a strange choice by HTC, but that's nothing new

Actually, it will be coming to other countries too, didn't see this part in the post:

Good to know, but is it worth it coming from M8 to M9? Currently using sense7 also, to me I don't think is worth it because I really want a bigger screen. That's why I will wait for HTC if not iPhone 6S plus.
M9+
Well as an early adopter I took the eBay plunge and bought an M9+ via China. I'm a Canadian on the bell network and moving from a HTC one M7 to the M9+ is definitely an improvement. My wife has the M8 so I think I can speak a little to the pros/cons a little.
First off the M9+ works fine on the Bell network. Since I saw the iPhone come with a fingerprint scanner I've been pretty jealous. Needless to say the M9+ scanner seems quite receptive and haven't had any issues to date. The larger qhd screen is nice and really those two features are really what made me go to the M9+ over the regular m9.
The one scary thing as an early adopter using a chineese phone getting my google apps installed ( gmail , play store, contacts , ) which I've become so reliant on. just having the ability to install any apps known to the north American market. Thanks to the xda community as there is a small writeup ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/one...perience-regarding-installing-google-t3111090 ) on getting them on the forum as your forced to use the chineese play store and when you can't read or understand any chineese it's a bit of a problem.
Haven't been quite able to figure out how to get rid of ChinaSense 7.0 and just go plain English but some notifications and blinkfeed is limited go chineese news but I find that minor. Hopefully there will be or already is a workaround.
Anyways 2 days in and I'm impressed. Ide reccomend going for the plunge if you're a HTC fan for sure.

hahaaaa.....
You will have Google apps and regular Sense 7.0 out of box if you buy the device,M9+, from India or Taiwan....
But the inconvenience is there is less channel to buy it on these countries then China.
If there were custom ROMs in the future and you would like to flash it,it will be all right.

I thought the release in Dubai/UAE was June 1st? Where is it already available in that case?
Available.. (with Comtel warranty - just anticipating your next question.. )
AED 2500 With 2 years Comtel warranty and price might drop down in the next couple of days
great news. I'm crunching on a chinese version, and so far so good... looking at how to create some international recovery and possibly some international rom for owners of the chinese version to switch to... first, i'll need to look at the chinese TWRP recovery if it can be switched to english twrp, but i'm lost yet in the chinese pages linked in some of the threads in this xda section
Is there a place that sells it online so I can have it shipped to KSA? It is still not released here yet
online sales not available but wait for a couple of days
its available now in some stores in Dubai

Hopefully someone can port one of the newer roms to the m9 in the time being.
Nice to see the update coming in time (90d time frame after vanilla Android release). But one thing makes me muse: Why were the previous updates released on most carrier versions simultanously? And will this happen with this update again?
I've been with HTC for a long time and except for the M7, I only owned unlocked devices. I noticed that the unlocked versions recieved their updates in time while it took the carriers weeks if not months to release their adopted updates. It annoyed me as hell while the M7 was my daily driver, so I returned to unlocked versions with my current M9.
Now I see that the updates are released on most carrier versions simultanously. This would mean that either the carriers have vanilla ROMs (unlikely) or HTC is holding back the unlocked versions in favor of the carrier versions not being delayed. The latter would really be annoying.
Any thoughts on this?

I believe unlocked ota push directly from HTC where carrier versions have to get approved by att,Verizon etc prior to release which is a huge pain in the ass and slows the whole release down

Lucky enough for me my provider does no lock what so ever in devices.
So all my HTCs (6 so far) although I take them in great price (after a little blackmail that I will opt for another provider) from my provider are totally unlocked.
android M with no material design in sight
im getting tired of sense the way it is currently
Those in the US shouldn't get their hopes too high. With carrier approvals being what they are we won't see this before February 2016. Some ROMs will have it sooner but often times things like WiFi calling and VoLTE won't work until the carrier version comes out...

Beginning end, assuming end is December with it being the last month and the beginning of that would be 1st of december which brings it into line of 2 months after launch.. Which is the usual time frame for the spread of android operating systems.

I read it to mean that the rollout of firmware for the different M9 variants will start at the end of 2015. i.e. "At the end of 2015, HTC will start to roll out Marshmallow upgrades for the M9 phones." The more the carriers get involved so they can install their branded crapware (Verizon, can you hear me now?), the longer it will take, so I'd expect the unlocked/developer ones to come first.
(FYI, Jan 1 2015 was the "beginning of the end" of 2015 )
Im just hoping the m9 6.0 update improves battery life and overheating. Getting close to returning mine within my 14 days. The biggest feature i look forward to is the merging of the micro sd card as internal storage.
If that one a9 had a larger battery id be all over it.
I don't think merging of micro sd card as internal will be supported officially, micro sd cards are not as fast as internal... I used my sd card for large apps though... =)

Don't wanna be too optimistic and rude at the same time. But isn't testing it on those devices implies plan to implement. Otherwise why test if there is no clear plan of development? Again am not being too optimistic just looking at all possible angles.
Just my two cents.
I was trying to analyze the message ARP_ASUS said, if they are testing it on ZE551ML and ZE550ML. Then definitely there is a source code available and optimize already for x86 device.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but u can't test something on a x86 device if you don't have a Android M source code specifically for x86 right?
Asus is not even capable of giving us 5.1. Forget about 6.0.
Just my humble opinion.
Nothing to see on this line
Man, I sure do love Monday morning volatility and vitriol, don't you?
Short of an announcement on their official pages, I'd still take any confirmation of the Marshmallow update, even on the official forums from a mod as a response, with a bit of salt. That being said, this is quite interesting. It seems like it is a firm statement that the pre-Zenfone 2 devices will not be updated by ASUS to 6 (not extremely surprising but it's a good gauge for us as to potential expected device support longevity).
Indeed, testing implies development. There have been times in the past where a company has tested an update and, in the end, chosen not to finalize and push it out (Atrix 4g comes to mind, since the development builds were eventually leaked showing that work had been done trying to get it to work). With the relatively close system requirements changes between Lollipop and Marshmallow, that probably won't be a factor in it. I'm not sure how those x86 Intel sources factor into it, but with actual testing being done that builds up my optimism!

Hey - I can't really comment on what that means. Testing sounds great which gives me hope we'll see Android M, but that message in and of itself doesn't sound official enough for me. Again, I'm trying to help by asking HQ a ton of questions and seeing what the plan is. These things take a ton of time because they need to go through a lot of people. All I can ask is for your patience and understanding.
I plan on following up with HQ about this.

Thanks, Keep us posted if something comes up.
I don't see why there is all this whinging about the Zenfone 2 on the forum.
It has got twice the ram and 4 times the storage of my previous phone (S4) for less than half the price of the S4.
Data and phone signals are as good or better than the S4 in my experience, and the phone is faster and smoother.
As to the ram leak, with 4gig who cares., and with 64gig internal and 64gig external I don't give a toss about the bloat.
Battery - with my usage the battery lasts 2 days, the same as my S4 now that it has lollipop.
Asus is putting out firmware updates regularly, they may not be 5.1.1 or 6.0, but if they improve the phone experience so what.
My only gripe with my phone so far is that I had to get it from Hong Kong, if Asus can sell it in France then they can get off their asses and sell it in the UK.
While I would fully expect Asus to provide an update to at least 5.1, or even 6.0, I believe in you get what you pay for. For a $300 phone, you get good bang for your buck, and I appreciate Asus having a rep stay active in the forum, Reddit, and ZenTalk.
There's nothing that says Asus has to provide this update, since it's not a Nexus device, and looking at models like Samsung LG, or Moto, it takes months to get their phones to what is or was the current iteration of Android.
I did however stick my faith in Asus for what I think is a good product, and this will be the determining factor as to if I ever purchase anything Asus again. I think a lot of people feel that way. We could have gone the Moto or even OPO route, but when went with Asus. It's up to them to keep us happy and coming back.

I saw it being sold on Amazon.co.uk, the ww version that was being shipped from Amazon UK, which is great if you have a problem and need to return it. Though I would suggest getting the US version if you are set on getting this phone, because it has more bands unlocked, which I will admit their bands are a huge plus on this phone. Keep in mind that the second sim only works on 2G voice/text and data is software blocked.
Hoping for fixing battery drain Android OS crap with 6.0

To think about it i dont have so much hope in asus
But can you like flash a dev 6.0 rom or something like that from dev for zen
To be fair, Asus is still better than the likes of Oppo - many of their phones are still stuck on KitKat.

did they end up pushing marshmallow or is it still June? Not sure if I should get this phone, or a LG G Stylo or Escape

Marshmallow will start rolling out around the end of May/beginning of June.
But it's your choice. If you are considering the 5.5" variant, then it's the best out of the three.
Same if you are considering the 4.7" variant. It is still better than the G Stylo and Escape.

Idols are pretty solid phones for the price, it's gonna be kinda hard to beat them. Don't let the android version stop you, marshmallow or not they are great.
I personally have had really bad experiences with cheap lg phones, you'd be lucky if you get what you pay for.
If you do go for an lg other then a g3/4 I'd really suggest looking up multiple reviews first.

I've been getting this on my 6045I ever since I got it 2 weeks ago. Is Android M marshmallow? And does anyone recamend updating to "5.0.2-010 01" if I want root? Is it buggy?

I have the LG Stylo from T-Mobile, and the idol international version on cricket, but using AT&T Apn with great success. In my opinion, the Stylo is a much more solid device, with removable battery, incredible memory management, and already has marshmallow. The idol can't be beat for music though, and hopefully marshmallow will fix high all the time memory usage. Just don't get the cricket version of either of these, as the hardware and software are lesser. I happily use both, and have Google voice for handling the number integration. Have the idol on cricket's inexpensive plan, and it comes in handy when I travel to have AT&T service [emoji51]

I have had this phone through Cricket since Nov. 2015, and i loved it until the patch came through. I have now had to have it replaced twice because it will turn off on its own, when i try and use Google play music it locks the phone screen immediately. I think all of the bugs are A) due to Crickets bloat wear or B) due to the bugginess of 5.0.2. Has anyone else experience any flaws and glitches? I LOVED this phone up until this point and now i want to throw it at a wall, or move back to the ZTE Max Plus (2) since it just dropped.

Nexus 6 end support date October 2016

https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/4457705#nexus_devices
Google created a timeline for Nexus devices.
Lists Nexus 6 no guaranteed support after October 2016......I feel like I just got this device too.........
............actually I did....I just bought it around Black Friday last year.
Me too so sad to see this happen

Sounds good; no more monthly Ota I hope.
This only determines OS updates. We'll get monthly OTAs for another year. Looking back at N5 and N4, I'm sure we'll get 7.0.1, 7.1 and so on...

Exactly, we'll get Android N and all the updates it brings. We will not get Android O for sure, at least not officially When you have a nexus and know what a rom is, that's not a big problem.
Plan on selling mine and getting whatever the next Nexus is; two years is enough time for me time to move on.
Nope just will not buy their devices anymore this is the last one for me!

Seems there are 2 options for Google Nexus devices:
A. No guaranteed support
B. No support
Guys pls don't bash me but iPhone 4s launched 4 years back was updated to iOS 9 and will probably get iOS 10 as well...At least for nexus devices Google needs to have a longer update horizon , maybe at least 2 years from the date the device was last sold ...no I did not say iPhone is better , calm down
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I think they should be updating longer as well, but it's not like they haven't been upfront about it for a long time now. It's less of an issue to me, as I always run community ROMs and there are going to be devs supporting AOSP builds for a long time to come.
http://www.xda-developers.com/updat...panic-nexus-phones-dont-have-execution-dates/
Just because it's not guaranteed doesn't mean OS updates will stop. Look at the N5 and N7 2013.
Guys, this is a nexus. I don't even run stock the moment I received my nexuses. So I don't mind about firmware support.
On the other hand, Google had the best customer support I've ever encountered. I had problems with a few unit of my nexus and got replacement several times without a problem.

Simple would be: a Nexus device can expect to receive updates for 2 years and security updates for 3 years.
A list with dates is unrealistic because they use the words ' no guaranteed '

Could be worse I suppose. Could spend $800+ on a new phone and have a locked bootloader from the mfg like the Galaxy S7. LOL :highfive:

You could always migrate to Shamsung or htc, where the official support period is about six months shorter......because it takes six months for the update to arrive.
Well, you get at least 3 years of support.
@vivebatu, have you seen iphone 4 on ios9?

I purchased this device knowing that as soon as I got it powered up I was going to unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery and then root. I even had Multirom planned and a few custom Roms picked out.
That's why I got it. Not for the camera or SOT, but for development and testing and to just have fun with it. Even if they stop supporting it in October there will still be custom Roms for it and several good stock builds too.
I plan on getting what ever Google builds to replace this device but am planning on keeping this around and ready to go. With 3gigs of ram, and the processor it has, this device will be around for some time yet and still be a formidable device.
Just my humble opinion.
