Now...after factory reset, to factory reset....WiFi still does not work, but my binary in bootloader keeps switching to "Custom" and after a while, it Device Status changes from "Official" to "Custom" under settings-->status....
Maybe the June update is the issue? I canceled my insurance on this line....think sprint will still take care of it?

Sprint is replacing the phone.

I now know of someone that has T-Mobile with an S7, never rooted; now is showing as Custom...Anyone else running the current security release that is having this issue?
There has to be someone.....

Disabling apps can cause the device to say custom. My Verizon S7 has said custom pretty much since day 1, way before root lol. Have you rooted your phone? If so, there is a fix for the WiFi problem.

No apps were disabled; no root on this device, ever. Device has now been replaced by Sprint.

[Q] Galaxy S5 locked on Reactivation Lock?

Hello I bought my verizon galaxy s5 yesterday on craigslist knowing verizon phones now come factory unlocked and intended to use it with my T-mobile sim. When I tested the phone everything worked fine but later on when I got home I decided to factory reset it to clean it up and now I am stuck with a "reactivation locked" window asking me for the owners samsung id, I then tried contacting the seller and now he wont respond so I am stuck with it. I have now made research and know that its a security new method on verizon phones. Is there a way to fix/disable this? any input will be greatly appreciated, thanks.
verizon phones now come factory unlocked??
This is news to me.
Kies or Odin might allow you to install a new image.

This has been the case with 4G phones. It is sim unlocked, as in you can use other carrier's sim cards, not with an unlocked bootloader in case that is what you were thinking.

You will have to get it from the seller.
It likely wasn't done maliciously nor may they remember even setting it.
IIRC when setting up the phone it is an option that you can enable. Chances are it may be a password they use for many things and my not want to divulge it?
Unfortunately you will have to get ahold of them as only they know the password.
The only other thing I can think of is flashing the ODIN tar. Not sure that this will reset it anyways as when you enable this option there is a message saying that Reactivation lock must be disabled before sending your phone in for service.
9/10 guy probly screwed u for a claim because that feature would have to been activated it wont activate on a reset as it would have asked for password prior to reset and the fact that its asking for the Samsung id is evidence to the fact

I found a way to access the devices of my sm-g900v with the build OE1 with this problem. So the bug i found is not complete but, i know that someone could do something with this info. All you need is blue-tooth headset mines are the lg HBS750. First you have to call 911. turn the bluettooth on and Quickly disconnect the call... you should be on the searching for devices.. At this point you connect you headsets and connect to wifi.. and press the speak/call button on the headset. S-voice should pop-up and ask you to connect to wifi (if you didnt follow my directions) if you did, you should be able to open settings are any stock app... i tired to disable from the settings but, it keep re-checking itself. Maybe someone could find out use this access to disable the reactivation lock.
have you find any solution to the reactivation lock?

if you find anything that WORKS, plz can you post it here, i have the same problem, I bought a G900V, later upgrade to PD1 android 6.0.1 and find the surprise
I've got some phones with a reactivation lock as well. I'll look into above. Any chance you could bring up adb? If so I can give you the adb input commands to force a hard reset via a bug, it may work and bypass reactivation lock as it is a full wipe, but no promises. Otherwise I have a theory for disabling it via a script that can be pushed via adb and executed. I need to see if I have time, cause it needs to be done
Thanks for getting me that far!!!

I have an s5 on bok3 firmware right now with a samsung reactivation lock lockout without root or unlocked bootloader and no custom recovery
i first went back to bok3 firmware then used the otg usb/cable bug to access the file manager i've also gotten into play store settings phone and couple other things but also i force closed a bunch of apps and then backed into the setup wizard and got phone activating as if it was a new device but alas it failed as i had disabled and/or forced close activation agent. I haven't been able to recreate since. ps you can access lock screen by going to android device manager on the web and using the lock feature to change the lockscreen password. I also discovered samsung account is the issue app for reactivation lock as when i force closed and disabled it setting menu crashes instead of does nothing when you try to do a factory reset in setting or add a samsung account to your device.
perhaps we can install a custom version of the s5 samsung account app to our device i dont have the skills to change it but you might. Just a thought
Reactivtion lock is off!!!!!!!!!!
I booted NCG on PB1 Bootloader
is a new thread on s5 verizon general on xda
im testing it to see if reactivation lock can be circumvented this way will tell you either way as soon as i can
IT IS CONFIRMED WORKING AND REACTIVATION LOCK IS OFF

SM-G870A Failing to Update Past 4.4.2

Hey everyone!
I've got an interesting predicament here. A little back story: a while back I installed TowelRoot, and then Xposed Framework. Everything was kosher until I got an OTA update (I believe the NG3 update) and it killed the root. No problem, I'm fine without root. But now that Lollipop has come out, I want to update but can't. My buddy applied the same root, but did not do Xposed. The difference between our phones after that OTA update: mine says "Custom" with an unlocked padlock at the Samsung boot screen; his does not.
I read in another thread that someone took their phone to Best Buy and the guys at the Samsung booth were able to fix the problem because they can pull updates and apply them via USB. So we went there yesterday and they had no problem getting Lollipop on my buddy's S5 Active. Mine, however, would not take the update. The Samsung S.M.A.R.T. tool they use on the PC was saying that "my device is running an unauthorized operating system", even though I have never flashed a custom ROM.
When I go into download mode, the Knox flag does not appear to be tripped. I've also performed a clean factory reset with a data wipe and that still didn't allow me to update. Whenever I try to update, it downloads the entire 4.4.4 update (which needs to be done first, before the 5.0 update) and it starts to install, failing at 25%, without hesitation, every single time.
I've attached a couple of screenshots that I hope will help. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Have you resolved this issue, if so, would you mind sharing how you did it. I've been combing the net for a few days trying to discover what is going on and your issue appears to be exactly what I am experiencing. I've read about flashing back to my stock firmware using Odin but I cannot get into download mode, when I try and get there, the phone only says "recovery reboot" in blue small font on the top of the screen and reboots.
Thanks
Ladies and gents, I apologize for abandoning this thread. I forgot exactly how I got to get the phone to update, but if I recall correctly, it had to do with me putting the phone in download mode, downloading the original firmware and using ODIN to flash it. Afterward, the "unlocked" padlock symbol disappeared and the phone was able to get the OTA update from AT&T.
I have since moved from an LG G4 to a V20 and that is what I am currently playing with. I also have a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge (which T-Mobile replaced my G4 with when the touch screen stopped responding). I was quite stoked to find out that there is a way to root it and (seemingly) unlock the bootloader, so I'll be toying with that this weekend to see what I can do. I'd love nothing more than to just wipe that Samsung-ified Android and install a vanilla Android or CM.
Good luck to anyone who is still trying to fix this issue. Again, my apologies. I'll dig through my archives and see if I can piece together what I did to get it going again. I still have the S5 Active. Best phone by far. It's a great backup phone for when the new stuff goes kaput.

S7 and/or Edge - Device Status = Custom

Ok; as a disclaimer, I am a long-time Rooter. For the record, I have not rooted since I had my Note 3; since then I have had a Note 4 and now an S7 Edge. This Sunday, after I had taken Sprint's newest security release (Sprint = PF2) I noticed that my WiFi would not enable. If you enabled it, it would say it was connecting, but then it would just switch back off. I started to dig into what was going on. I then rebooted into recovery...only to see that my binary was CUSTOM....Knox was/is not tripped. I then restart the phone to find in settings that my phone is no longer listed as official, it is now CUSTOM. Now I irritatedly factory reset my phone from settings. All is now clean and OFFICIAL. I try to enable Wifi, nope, it will not turn on. I then restart into recovery to find my device is now CUSTOM again....Rinse and repeat. I then do a factory reset from recovery...same failed result after a restart of the phone. Sprint failed to resolve (I have a replacement coming) and the Samsung REP at Best Buy was flabbergasted. The Samsung REP worked his magic only to realize that his magic did not resolve the issue either. I do not have HummingBad; scans have proven negative, in addition to a factory restart resolving that virus (even if I had it).
Now I find out that a friend of mine's--Sister-in-Law has an S7 with T-Mobile having the same CUSTOM Rom issue; although she is not having the WiFi issue.
This has got to do with the phone/version of Android.
What are everyone's thoughts?
Thank you for reading;

That's strange, I've never seen or experienced that before in all my time of owning samsung devices. Did you try wiping everything from the recovery menu and then reflashing your stock firmware with odin?
I am with you on the "never seen or experienced that before in all my time owning Android devices." I have been running Android since the Evo. I wiped with recovery and let it rebuild on its own, I wiped from settings and let it rebuild, I flashed in Odin, Sprint did their magic wipe, Samsung did their magic wipe...in all of the cases, the phone boots up as Official and recovery shows Official. Once the phone restarts, the loop of CUSTOM starts....
I am totally baffled. It bothers me that my replacement might be refurbished...on top of that, I think it could happen again.
S7 Edge is custom after Samsung update
My phone just got an update yesterday and I let it update overnight/reboot.
After the update my stock/never rooted device is now also custom and I'm blocked from checking for system updates. I do not have the wifi issues, this is the T-Mobile variant.
I have emailed Samsung as I purposely avoided modifying this phone and now I don't want their accidental triggering of 'custom' to block my ability to have the phone maintained.
Samsung's terrible online chat team is of no use, I reached them after the email above received a "we don't support custom roms" when I clearly stated it was not rooted and not modified. So went to online chat and I'm told "it's rooted, because it says custom" - thanks for calling me a liar cheap front line support.
Then I'm told it's a custom rom because the baseband is not matching their database! That's funny I found the baseband as a release from July 10th as official.

If your S7E came from Sprint and has a Sprint ROM, AFAIK Samsung generally doesn't support "customized" (by operators) models directly.
As the ROM has been customized by Sprint, the baseband version is not present in the Samsung own database.
Therefore IMHO only the Sprint customer service could help you.

What happens when you search for OTA updates?
Do you get a message saying something like "Your device has been modified, no updates available"?

Here's what you get when you go to check for OTA - note, on my phone no other odd behavior is seen - other than device status = custom.
In this situation you'll likely never get new OTA updates...
I suspect that something went wrong during the latest T-Mobile OTA update...
If you are able to find the original T-Mobile ROM you might try to reflash your phone and start over.

Samsung recommends that I take my phone to a Best Buy Samsung Experience location and have them flash over the OS - leaving the apps/data in place. I've yet to find a location that can do this.

Wow, after some wasted time with Samsung and trying to get help from their people at Best Buy. I stumbled across a potential fix!
Using old examples of the same 'suddenly custom' I found that the following put my S7 Edge back to 'Offical" after being custom for 3 days.
1) Power Off for 5+ seconds
2) Press and hold Volume Up and hit Power
3) Unlock icon/custom should be gone!
4) Release both buttons
5) Sign in
6) Settings/status/device status, this may be set at scanning for 45 seconds

My exact problem came from having something disabled in Packers Disabler Pro. I had the exact same issue with my device saying "custom" when in actuality it was Official. I'm with Tmobile as well. I took all the same steps to address the issue but nothing helped until I enabled all the apps that were disabled in Package Disabler Pro then restarted device. All was well. I carefully watched what I disabled in the future. I still do not know which app caused this but I take my time and check my device's status(official/custom) after disabling any apps.. Thank you... Sprint GS7 - No WIFI and "CUSTOM" after last OTA update. KNOX 0x0.

Ok, so this is my wife's phone. After the last OTA update to QE1, she noticed that the WIFI would not turn on. I kinda ignored her for a couple of weeks until she really made a fuss of it. When I finally got around to it I also noticed that "CUSTOM" was present in the phone information area as well as upon bootup. I've searched XDA as well as other sites and tried everything I could think of but nothing has helped. I cannot mess with any WIFI settings because it will not turn on at all so I can't even access the menu. Neither Sprint nor Samsung will touch the phone because they claim I rooted it. I didn't. I have factory reset it numerous times with no luck. I have ODIN'd the software for a full reset and used all older software versions even. Following Sprint's own software updates, no luck. I have used the Samsung SmartSwitch program on the computer to also do a full reset to factory multiple times with no luck. The Samsung rep at the local Best Buy even tried it. The only thing that a full reset helps with is getting rid of the "CUSTOM" notification until you reboot the phone. It doesn't fix WIFI.
Has anyone had experience with this problem? I am getting ready to root it, but I'm not sure if that will even help. Additionally, the phone currently does not have Sprint service, I had to activate her old phone... So, I don't have access to the internet with the phone unless I reactivate it on an account... I looked at a root option, but it requires wifi...
I'm open to suggestions. Please help..
Ok, so no one has any input on how to fix my problem. Is it not possible with the locked bootloader?

After running odin with stock firmware, go into recovery and hard reset the device again . As far as Hard Bricking on Purpose, that would be fraud, something not allowed to be discussed here. Mods please lock this thread.
Thanks for the reply. Sorry about breaking the forum rules, I went ahead and edited my original posting. I've already tried odin with stock firmware and hard resetting the device numerous times with no luck... I'd like to be able to dig deeper into the phone but I'm guessing that won't be possible with the locked boot loader?

PH-1 not seeing OTA updates

I can't seem to get the OTA. I've been on 7.1.1 this whole time (rooted with TWRP/Magisk) and have been waiting for the official 8.1 to be released.
I just flashed the full back-to-stock for 7.1.1 (using invisiblek's images), but after completing successfully, the OTA doesn't show up. I'm on T-Mobile, and I've confirmed that I no longer have root or TWRP recovery.
In fact, I noticed that there doesn't seem to be a recovery at all anymore (lying down droid). Is that normal? Is the stock recovery required for the OTA to be received? How do I get that back? TIA
Also, my bootloader is unlocked. Is that the issue? TIA.

Different carriers allow updates at different times.
Unlocked BL won't matter.
Try connecting to WiFi.

Easily overcome...
I'm with Sprint and my phone updated OTA yesterday.
My phone is unlocked and unrooted.
Thanks guys. OK, I'll wait a bit longer. I've already removed/reinstalled my t-mobile sim and connected via Wifi, but still no updates showing. Not getting any Nougat security patches either (I'm still on the Dec patch).
Anyone still having these issues? I'm stuck on 7.1.1 still and OTA is not showing 8.1. Tried removing and reinserting the sim & a factory, reset, but still no dice.
When I try to download the latest build on essential's webpage, I get this error:
AccessDeniedAccess denied.Anonymous caller does not have storage.objects.get access to essential-static/PH1-OTA-OPM1.180104.092.zip "Android 8.1 Oreo (OPM1.180104.092).
Solved... Telus/Koodo in Canada is just terrible with software updates. For some reason, just removing the SIM didn't do it and I had to insert a SIM card from a different carrier entirely. Worked immediately without even clearing data or restarting the phone!
