Both Sims & SD Card Simultaneously? - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

So here is the AXON Sim Tray.
View attachment 3792627
It looks like it is either SD Card or Sim Card and not both at the same time with the way the slot works. (People who have it can confirm whether or not it's true.) But I have a theory of how to get both at the same time.
View attachment 3792628
With the above photo, you can see that I took the sim card out of they plastic using a hair dryer, some scissors to cut the edges off, & a knife to separate it from the plastic.
View attachment 3792629
We can then take the card & attach it to the back of the SD card. Theoretically it should be able to read all 3 cards at the same time. The pins are clearly visible for the SD Card and both sim cards when in the slot. I'm in the US so I won't be able to test my theory out until it launches here, if someone wants to try it and report back that would be awesome! I'll end up getting this phone regardless, but if this works it'd just be icing on the cake!
Edit: Thanks to 'jkuczera' we have a couple videos for you to see it.
We have confirmation that the mod works for the Axon 7 guys! 2 Sim cards & an SD card!
Part one of two
Part two of two

That's one hell of a hack, let's see if anyone does try it

Impressive! Would love to see someone test it.

it should work according to this website https://tweakers.net/geek/111323/tw...de-dual-sim-met-sd-kaart-voor-smartphone.html (it is in dutch) it works for other phones with a similar 2sim/1 sim +sd slot

Wow, nice idea! I thought about opening the phone and see if there's room inside to move the contacts for the second SIM card to a different place, maybe with flat cables, but in this case, the second SIM wouldn't be replaceable on the fly.
How thick is the disassembled SIM card? Is the chip flat enough to minimize the pressure on both cards? I think about if we have to worry about both SIM and SD card getting damaged.

hmm...damn didn't know about that Slot when i preorderet one...
But this hack is awesome as hell! i think i gonna do it when i got the phone and some reports, that this truly will work.

I'd be worried about this getting stuck in the phone if I tried it

The disassembled card is super thin, I really wouldn't be worried about damage from the pressure to either peice.

Do you think double sided tape would work?

I thought about using double sided tape but it would really need to be thin. The great thing about the hot glue is it can be removed cleanly and won't stick to the inside of the phone.
I haven't had any problems yet and I anticipate the phone would be in pretty bad shape if it received the force required to dislodge the SIM card.

Mount your phone as a disk drive. When windows asks if you want to scan and repair go for it.
That doesn't work your sd card is hosed. Pick up a new one with a higher speed class off of new egg.
Copy everything from the sd to your computer and copy over to the new card.

Check out the 16GB Class 10 Wintec on NewEgg. I've had mine since I picked up my shift and it's been great. I think it goes for about $25.
My phone started doing this yesterday. Its done it with 7 cards so far. 3 are new.
I went back to work today, on the inland waterways, stuck without sd access for a month. Now clockwork can't mount it half the time.

Update: Definitely an internal problem. I thought it was just an error in MIUI but it's showing up in every rom now. I can format all of my cards and mount to flash. Within an hour I get the Damaged SD Card error.

Do the sd cards wiggle around in the concave area it lays in? Before writing a dissertation about my guess of what it might be, I will ask this first.
When it's plugged into the computer, phone and cable, how do you disconnect the phone from the computer?
Does ruu back to 100% stock produce the same results?
Are you overclocked?
Are the cards all the same size and from the same manufacturer?

I've got three wintechs and four sandisks. Fit snug. I always unmount from comp side then unmount from phone side. Only time I mount at all is in recovery, actually.

Edit: sizes range from 2gb to 16gb, and I have formatted all cards just to make sure they were the right file system and not ext2(3/4) reiser... so on.
Well if putting a piece of paper the size of the card on top of the card, then pushing the lock bar down doesn't help then I would take it to a sprint repair center. The paper needs to be thicker than sheet paper. Like one of the cards they have inside magazines for a subscription or maybe a post card. That should help keep the card stationary and better contact with the pins for the SD card. If that doesn't help then I would ruu back to complete stock, format a card in the phone and put some files on it. Nothing that could remotely be associated with roms or rooting or unlocking then find a sprint repair place. Take it there and try to make it corrupt the card in front of the tech. They might take it apart to see if something is loose or broken. If it can't be fixed quickly and easily, they will probably give or order a refurbished. If you are lucky you might get a new one. Don't give them a hard time when you are there or they can make life suck for you.

Yeah, it'll be fun lol. I'm on a boat for a month anyways so I'm screwed.
At least I've got fastboot!
If you need to save or whatever a file, you could just send it as an email attachment to yourself. I don't know if there's such a program as something that makes a virtual drive online. I dunno. I'm just trying to think of ideas to use until you can get it fixed.
How about bluetooth file transfer to a computer or another phone...

Remove SIM?

So maybe I am just dumb. But how does the SIM card come out? On the Note 2, you would push it in until it retracted. On this device it seems there is no give when I try that.
*EDIT*
Eh, eventually got it out. Had to have someone with longer nails pull at it. Kind of a pain.
strange i was pushing up on it too as per all the directions I saw online. also I noticed that the sd card doesnt click in either like on other phones. ok thanks for this Ill just leave it in

I swapped the note 3 with my unlimted data phone. I could not get the sim out i just said screw it and verizon was still able to switch me over without swapping the sim
Yeah, the SIM is not spring loaded. You'll have to use long finger nails or tape over the end to pull it out.
I used an Xacto knife
Use corner of sticky note or scotch tape on SIM and lightly put finger on top as you pull out.
I used tweezers.

The tray itself is soldered on to the board. So might be tricky, depends how confident you are at removing and re-soldering one.
I have the same problem.. Any tutorials?
My SD Card reader is dead as well. Samsung refused to repair it because Knox was tripped. I am wondering if there is a tutorial for how to repair/replace it. I have searched youtube and Google and have not found anything yet.
Best thing is find a phone shop (independent) and pay them the 20 or so to fix it for you tbh

SD CARD + 2 SIMs mod

Sorry this might be off topic but I think I've seen some pictures of people using 2 Sims with an sd card on the ascend mate 7 but unfortunately no one has really come up with the correct way to do it without problems. Pls for those that have already done it kindly post the detailed procedure here. I have an idea though so I'll just post the little I know
1. Backup your SIM contacts and msgs.
2. Hold the SIM with a pair of scissors or pliers and heat the plastic part under the chip with a tiny flame to remove the chip.
3. I saw someone recommend scratching the sd card on a rough surface. Pls don't do it as it will damage your card. Damaged my 64gb card for me and is actually the reason I haven't finished the mod yet.
4. Glue the SIM chip to the sd card and try inserting into the phone. It might be a bit tight but with a little effort it should slot in.
5. Pls feel free to post a better method thanks

That is correct. And I'm the guy who said rub (not scratch) you microsd card on a mildly rough surface to smoothen everything and improve your chances of being able to slot-in the card-sim combo. If you do it WITH SENSE, your chances of ruining your cards are slim. I didn't spoil a single microsd card.
Well I happened to damage mine while trying. Maybe I'll get a new card and retry.

You officially have the option of using two Sims on the mate 7 but you would have to forgo an SD card as the 2nd Sim uses the same slot as the SD
The Mate 7 is a better device.
The dual sim option of the honor 6 isn't generally available.
You would miss the fingerprint scanner

it is nice to know that if i could manage to fit the nano sim and the microSD in the slot at the same time they will work simultaneously.
Do we really need to remove the plastic part from the nano sim ? couldnt they fit together if just put one above the other ?
Also, is everyone sure this doesnt damage the fone ?

Dual Sim + Micro SD for Galaxy S8

Hi, Guys
Planning to get my Galaxy S8. I'm upgrading from Galaxy S7.
I'm a bit concern regarding the possibility of having Dual Sim + Mirco SD capability on Galaxy S8.
Can someone confirm if this is feasible on Galaxy S8 as well?
Thanks,

nope. Its hybrid dual sim. You can either use two sims or one sim and one microsd.

Nice, can you post the method you used? There are few different videos on youtube. Did you cut the plastic from the tray or removed the plastic from sim and paste it on back of card? Did you had to trim the card too or not?
Can you show how you did it?
Fail to do it..
Hi, thank you for sharing that you have succeeded on dual sim + sd card.
I have try my own and fail to do it.. I try to use sandpaper and thin the front part of the sd card, FAIL!! The sd card is unreadable.. better don't try anything like that.
Compare to S7 edge it's completly different, S7 edge is much easier to do as Samsung S8 sd card slot is very tight and limited space. That's why I am so curious how you succeeded on that, we all are very curious.
I was hoping that you can share with us how you succeed on dual sim + sd card.
Looking forward for the sharing.. maybe, just a suggestion that you can post on youtube as there are none yet showing how to do. You might get hundreds maybe thousands of like and thanks.
never try thinning ur mSD card using sandpaper or any method especially bottom (back) side as it contains very sensitive tiny circuits. my 128GB samsung evo+ damaged due to this.

From what I understand, you can scrape off the edge on the micro sd that's supposed to help give a grip to pull it out. Then scrape the top part till the lettering is gone. From what I was told, this should give just enough headroom for both the sd and SIM.
