Bluetooth audio stutter - Xperia Z5 Premium General

Who else is facing audio stutter when listening to music over bluetooth?
I thought it was an issue with my headset (Sony SBH80) but it seems to be happening on all devices, its very bad when using stock music player. Its totally unusable.

I have intermittent music over Bluetooth in my car sometimes... When I shut all the apps it's fine..
Sent from my SO-03H using Tapatalk

When I used it with my last headunit in my car (sony-device) it worked fine! But since we switched to another car (mazda) it stutters frequently without any logical reason. I also didn't manage to recreate the issue as it, sometimes, play just fine.

I was using Samsung before z5 and I think Samsung Bluetooth and WiFi is much superior then Xperia... My Samsung could connect to my Asus ac router beyond 300 meter Xperia sometimes can't get connected while I am at home..

I have to live with multiple issues on Z5p, it heats up and the UI stutters when its hot . Battery life is not as good as my Z3...Wish Sony will address all of this in Xperia X performance at least.
But the bluetooth issue made me completely pissed, never have experienced this in any of my previous phones, even basic phones with no smart features have a decent bluetooth radio!

Same here. Got the bt stuttering on a regular basis. Phone restart helps for a limited amount of time. Super sucky problem indeed!

This problem has been addressed in the Sony Mobile Forum. Apparently the FM Radio app is causing the issue(even if you don't use it). To fix this, the FM Radio was removed in the next update, and added back again in the subsequent update after the issue has been fixed. So until the updates are released, we have to live with it.

I've got it too. Z5 premium dual sim 6.0.1 build 32.2.A.0.224.
Sometimes it's clean, other times audio breaks out intermittently.

It seems to be less when I turn on stamina mode (very bad compared to the old stamina mode and the notification is ugly) on the latest marshmallow update. Others please confirm if its the same case for you.

Same here I've isolated it to Wi-Fi. The occurrence is reproduced during periods when Wi-Fi button is on!

Will try with wifi off on the way home.
My target is Kia head unit which works fine against
HTC one m7
Xperia z1
Nexus 5
Sgs6 edge
Only z5 premium giving issues.
My ear tells me that there is a buffer under run occurring... some bucket is running empty and the audio stream cuts out.
I occasionally have connections where I don't have stuttering but my experience is not consistent
It's irritating.

I've been getting this recently, not all the time but it's getting worse as time goes on.

I have a Sony SRS-X33 and it plays everything without any hiccup using high quality profile.

I have a Samsung sound dock DA E750 top of the line. I never had sound shuddering with Nokia, Samsung, iPhone. Unfortunately Xperia z5 I get it often...

So the last update does fix a bit, no stuttering when turning up or down the volume. It does however still stutter here and there which is too damn annoying.
What I do not understand is... What the hell changed from Lollipop to Marshmallow? It never stuttered in Lollipop...
I honestly don't believe it's happening because of the radio, otherwise it would have happened in Lollipop as well.

i also suffer this bluettoth issue but the stange thin is that not in all paired device i had that.
whit all standard bluetooth speaker it goes well no issue but i had that when i try to connect to my beoplay a2. i think it's relataded to the connection on aptx device ,cose on my boombox and vibe thor i had no problem

i see in music option, if you're connected to an aptx device, that the phone use the sony personal ldac protocol not the aptx.
maybe this is the problem

Before marshmallow everything was fine for me. Only after the MM update this issue surfaced...
Sent from my SO-03H using Tapatalk

Same thing happening to me - the only solution I found so far is to restart the phone in Safe Mode (hold the power button, then hold the finger on the Shut Down button on screen and chose Reboot in Safe Mode option), then restarting again - after this it's fine for some time - sometimes it's few days, sometimes it's just few hours, hit and miss.
Before Marshmallow Update all was good.

Bluetooth music skips on high bitrate songs

Any workaround for this besides downconverting those songs I have a motorola T505 bluetooth fm transmitter. I'm sure its probably just a hardware issue on my T505 but skipping songs is as annoying as converting all those songs. Thank you

This seems to be happening with all my music, but most of/not all the time and not for a long period until recently. Which leads me to believe it's a performance issue somewhere and thinking I either need to try a different music player besides stock...or do something like logcat and try to discover what it is. I've tried many other variables for things which steal memory/CPU and nothing helps. Any tips appreciated! I run rooted stock EC05.
ETA: this happens on both my stereo BT devices, but is worse with the headphones (Sony Ericsson AW600) than the Blackberry Stereo Gateway. I get a skip every few minutes of about 1/2 a second at its most regular. Last time it appeared "fixed" was when I cleared all system caches and rebooted after a batt pull, but it returned again. :-(
Skips happen regardless of bitrate or player with my 2010 Mazda built-in Bluetooth as well. Quite annoying; I haven't narrowed down to whether it is the car or the phone though.
Of course, I get skips and pops using regular wired headphones. I hope we get better audio drivers with the GB update.
On the same boot today as yesterday, problem is temporarily gone. Only thing notable I've done was disabling and restarting BT and I don't know if that actually has any effect. It also never seems to happen while streaming audio or playing with no BT, only while playing it from the memory card using BT. Weird.
Thiss has been happening since I had a moment and I had the same music library and the same songs skip it never happens with tune in either

Just thought I'd chime in on some random recent bluetooth experience. I jog and typically hold my phone in my left hand (I use a Motorola S9 headset). The playback is fine (I use MortPlayer Music). If I move my phone to my right hand I get skips. I swear.... it's weird yet reproducible. ha.
When using my in car T505 I get no skips using any audio app.
I use a T605 in my car as well as T305 earphones. I would rarely hear a pop or skip. Now with ec05, i hear them all the time. really bums me out :'(
JD
I have the same issue. Only happened since i asurion'd my original phone wen it was stolen... used to run eb13without issue, but with ec05 skips all the while

VZW G2 bluetooth audio fixed yet?

Has anyone with a G2 on VZW had problems with bluetooth streaming audio to their car stereo and found a workaround?
I had a G2 for the two week trial and had to return it because I just couldn't get it to work reliably with my car stereo and didn't want to be stuck with it until a fix was available because I need this functionality. It should be said that I've used a Rezound, GS3, Nexus 4, Note 2, GS4 (all stock and ROM'd) with this stereo and never experienced this kind of behavior.
No problem here.
Ok here too.
Edit: Actually, I had minor issues the first time. After I had Bluetooth forget the device and repair, it's been great.

same here...got it working last night. I think the problem was that my stereo was initiating the connection instead of the phone, and once I switched that, been fine since.

Would be nice to know specifically what the issue is that you're experiencing. Haven't noticed anything with streaming audio via Bluetooth and I've done it quite a bit.

There are quite a few problems that I was experiencing:
One was when running TuneIn Radio, I couldn't adjust the volume via the car volume controls. Only the side volume controls on the phone could change the volume coming out the car speakers.
Another was song titles/artists were not displayed when using Google Play Music (the only other app i use besides Tune In to listen to music).
Yet another was when I tried to skip tracks with the car controls it was very hit or miss - mostly miss, as it usually didn't do anything.

The track info not displaying is mostly because of the bluetooth stack on the phone. Its much better in Android 4.3, but obviously thats no help for the G2 (yet)
Using Slacker radio I can reliably skip tracks, but for some reason the pause button doesnt work in my car unless the phone screen is on. My Gnex worked fine with play, pause, skip track, etc, so Im pretty sure its not my car. It *could* be 4.2.2 since I never ran a 4.2.2 based ROM on my Gnex, or it could be something LG-related, or both.
I know a few people returned their phones because of it, but I really think the bulk of the issues stem from the OS itself, rather than something LG may have overlayed. As such, I believe its fixable, and probably will be fixed with third party development going forward. I think I own a copy of TuneIn Pro, so if I get a chance Ill try it out. Also make sure you are using the newest version of the app too, since some apps release fixes (and breaks, even) for bluetooth control stuff.

How is your Bluetooth

I have a new car and a new phone so it's hard to be sure.
I used the GNex for about 3 days with the new car and didn't see problems. Connected every time and sound was consistent
With the MotoX I am getting auto connected about 1/2 the time and a lot of stuttering on the bluetooth audio.
Same for others ?
Another question: When I connect bluetooth the volume always resets to about 80%. Can I change this setting anywhere ?
So it's not the car as I just had the same problems with my BT headphones. It also started playing through the speakers at one point even though the BT connection was still showing.
I use the Bluetooth calling feature with my truck. I haven't had any problems so far, but it's only been a few days. I will report back if I do have problems. I am running 4.4 with all OTAs.

I've had pretty much the same experience with mine since the 4.4 update. I don't even bother listening to music over bluetooth now because it's so annoying with the constant stuttering. I'm hoping they fix it with the next update, whenever that comes. If not, I'll probably have to look into upgrading to a newer head unit. My GNex always worked great with this stereo's bluetooth.
I listened to Spotify Inmine yesterday, no problems. It even sent the song information to my car's display which it didn't do on my last phone.
I've been tethering my Nexus 7 using Bluetooth and had a lot of trouble getting it to connect the first time. But today was my first real use of it and the Internet connection on the Nexus 7 dropped part way through the trip. It was only being used to get traffic info for CoPilot, so I didn't notice right away when the connection was lost. A little troubleshooting got me nowhere, but then while driving the connection came back on its own.
Something happens with me

I use bluetooth daily and haven't experienced a disconnect or even a stutter with Google Play Music on 4.4. I chose the setting to resume music when driving is detected and now I don't even take out my phone when I get in my car. Music usually starts playing within 100' of driving. There is a mod to remove the audio warning; I haven't tried it yet, but I don't really have a problem with it either.

Samsung has the same thing on it's firmware, and while it was a PITA to find and fix, it can be done (fairly easily).
I've had some Bluetooth issues that I described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2562186
At least one other person mentioned their connection dropping repeatedly. My issue started with it only connecting to my hands free in my car, but but my separate A2DP audio receiver. If I tapped on the device in Bluetooth settings, it connected fine. I found an app called Bluetooth Auto Connect that has nice configuration options to do what I needed (connect to A2DP once General Motors connects), but it also plays nice with Tasker.
I did notice last night that my General Motors connection was starting and stopping repeatedly my entire drive home from work (~45 minutes). I noticed it at first when I would turn the screen on to thumb up a song on Pandora, and the "you're connected to a trusted device" message would flash. At first I thought it was just reminding me of that each time the screen came on (or manually unlocking when the screen turned on), but then noticed my radio was saying "Bluetooth Connected" every few minutes as well. I rarely actually talk on the phone, so it's not a huge deal, but as described in my post linked above, on Monday I got a call when I (thought I) was connected to my General Motors, but it wasn't. I answered the call and was talking on the handset when it connected to Bluetooth and then I was hands free.
I did also notice yesterday when I was listening to Pandora with wired headphones at my desk at work that it got started sputtering pretty bad after I got a text message and Active Display was "breathing". Not sure if the two are related, but it happened. I did get a few texts while driving home and didn't notice any skipping over Bluetooth then.
Interesting theory on the active display... I've often wondered if that was partially responsible for the stuttering issue I'm having, but I was under the impression that it is automatically disabled when the phone is in your pocket, or face down. I guess I have some more experimenting to do while I wait for the next update.
At least for me it would not be face down in the car so I'll keep an eye on that.
Can someone point me to where I can take care of the volume issue ?
OK figured it out and learned about Xpose. Very cool.
I'll see if this is what was actually my problem. My problem was that bluetooth audio level is always reset to 80% (or so) each time I use it.
Bluetooth in my car is awesome.
ATT kitkat with Toyota Venza
Before the update music streaming took 20 seconds to load, but now it works instantly.
Bluetooth has had half second "pauses" at random times... sometimes seems too coincide with the screen on or off, other times when the phone is doing nothing. Also before kit Kat Google music would show track number (but nothing else) now I've lost that too. Unrooted
Sent from my KFTHWI using Tapatalk 2
I experienced the pauses today when I overrode the volume warning. They kept occurring even after the volume was turned back down below 80%. I rebooted and started up some music without going over the volume suggestion and the skips were gone. If you're having trouble with the music or Bluetooth connection "skipping" try it out. Definitely tied to that volume warning somehow.
Interesting theory, I'll have to test it out. I have noticed that mine seems to do it at the same locations while I'm driving, and am starting to wonder if it is related to the handoff between towers.

Is it just me or is Bluetooth on this phone completely borked?

I've had horrendous issues with Bluetooth -- getting it paired, placing calls, etc. Haven't seen many places reporting on this, but seems to be 6.0 related. Can we please draw some attention to this and make sure it gets fixed in 6.0.1? If not, I'm probably going to have to return the phone when I'd really rather not

I have also had issues with bluetooth. Mainly when connected to my Chevy truck. There's some high battery drain related to Bluetooth being on that some folks are reporting, which appears to be more software related to 6.0.

2013 sonata se basic radio with Bluetooth
Pioneer 8500bhs, beats over ear wireless, Motorola Keylink, and waterproof portable Bluetooth speaker all work great for my 6p over BT.
The only strange thing I noticed is this, it paired fine, connects fine, shows the music I'm playing on play music fine, but unless I adjust volume down one click off max I get no audio. Lol
Since it seems like some are having issues and some aren't, I'm thinking this may be some sort of problem with different BT radio hardware

There appears to be some type of Bluetooth security fix in there, perhaps that is also fixing the connection issues that some of us are experiencing? I have a question for you about the Bluetooth headphones you use. If you pause what you are listening to with the button on the headphones and keep the phone in your pocket for 15 minutes, will pressing play on the headphones resume what you were listening to? I'm still trying to figure out if it's hardware or software problem. If it does resume consistently could you let me know what build you are on? Thanks.

Bluetooth Audio Streaming Static/Crackle

Just got my GS 7 Edge yesterday, and after having the S6 and Note 5, one thing I've noticed immediately was there was a crackle/static noise when streaming audio via bluetooth to my car. This issue was also present in the last 2 phones, but when I use my Nexus 6P everything is fine. Has anyone else seen this issue with their phone yet? It sucks because my '15 Honda Civic does not have an AUX port so I have to use bluetooth. I've tried using different apps (Spotify and PowerAmp are my 2 most used apps) and no change. Seems to be more noticeable in PowerAmp though.
Try turning down the volume on one device and turning it up on the other.

I'm also experiencing the Bluetooth Audio delay on my Galaxy S7 Edge. I tried 3 different bluetooth devices, cleared the cache, reset phone to factory defaults and still the delay exists. When using a wired headset or playing through the built in speakers, there is no issue.
I went to Best Buy and paired my bluetooth device to one of their display Galaxy S7 Edge phones, played a video and also noticed the same delay. I emailed Samsung technical support and they asked me to send it in for repairs. Seems like it's a general issue though. I hope they issue a patch for this.
I also have this problem with S7. The audio quality is really really bad when compared to e.g. Nexus 5. This might be "Samsung" related, because the other Samsung phone I own suffers from exactly the same crackling and overal bad quality sound over A2DP. I tried 2 different bluetooth receivers, so I'd not blame receivers for that.
Also noticed this.
Also noticed this with the S7 Edge I bought just yesterday. I switched up from my HTC One M8 and immediately noticed the crackling and static that was coming out from my car stereo. Never had the problem with my M8, I guess I'm going to be carrying two phones for the time being
Yeah I'm using my N6P as my music player and my S7E for everything else :-/ this is so ****ty. Sucks also since my '15 civic EX-L doesn't have aux in. So I have no choice

Huh... thought I was crazy. Might be a deal breaker. Had my S7 Edge for almost 4 weeks now, and somehow just noticed it last week when the right song was playing... male vocals of all things, when hitting high notes, crackled like a mother. No problem in AUX, and no problem on my 6P. How Samsung screwed this up, I have no idea. So I've been using it via AUX in my car and controlling the songs via BT with my watch. Kind of a pain. Plus I constantly have to turn the EQ on/off switching between the car and headphones.

I had the same problem, I did a factory reset and the problem was gone, but I found that the problem was caused by the smartwatch that was connected to the cellphone, it seems that the bluetooth is not capable to manage efficiently two connections at the same time. When I disconnect the smartwatch the crackling is no more. I hope this can be solved through a software update.
Hope this work for you too.

Interesting, because I only noticed the problem after getting my smartwatch. But even when I shut down the watch and try listening, the distortion was still there. Maybe I needed to restart the phone too or something?... not sure. Should have tested with my 6P to see if it did the same thing.
Yes same her if I use my s2 and level U earphones I used to get this issue, but of late after the s7 updates it is sorted
Sent from my SM-G935F using XDA-Developers mobile app

I'm also experiencing the Bluetooth Audio delay on my Galaxy S7 Edge. I tried 3 different bluetooth devices, cleared the cache, reset phone to factory defaults and still the delay exists. When using a wired headset or playing through the built in speakers, there is no issue.
I went to Best Buy and paired my bluetooth device to one of their display Galaxy S7 Edge phones, played a video and also noticed the same delay. I emailed Samsung technical support and they asked me to send it in for repairs. Seems like it's a general issue though. I hope they issue a patch for this.
