How to get MSL - Sprint HTC 10 Questions & Answers

Does anyone know how to get the MSL code? I've always used MSL Reader from the playstore, but on this phone it gives me the error in the SS.
The only real reason I need it is to change the LTE band priority. I live in an area with strong support for all 3 bands, but much better with 41->26->25. I had changed it on my M8, but when I got my 10 , I updated prl/profile which changed it back to the default priority of 25->26->41.
I'm unlocked, s-off, and running Bad Boyz.

I've never had any issues just getting the MSL from customer service.

Try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-one-m9/general/nv-unlock-sim-t3314755

Setting the band priority doesn't do much. It changes how the phone initially scans for an LTE connection, but once connected to LTE, the network will determine what band the phone should be on and will move you accordingly.

It makes a world of a difference when you turn off certain bands that are trash where ever you live though.

[Q] How to check for LTE signal?

Hi,
Before messing with my Nexus 4 (running rooted stock 4.2.2 with Franco Kernel M1), is there a way or a specific app to check for LTE signal in my area?
Thanks!

There is no app I know of that can test for a signal your phone isn't set to receive, you'd have to set it up for LTE first. And if you don't live in one of the 7 major cities T-Mobile just turned LTE on in or in Canada then you don't have LTE you can use anyways.
With Verizon you can check for their list of LTE coverage and find out if its in the area and go from there. Its almost everywhere now but back in the Thunderbolt days lots of people did that.
A quick Google search would get you started.

Verizon's current LTE network isn't compatible with this phone. They eventually will build out their existing LTE network using AWS but that is a long way off and it still most likely won't work with the Nexus.

I guess I will have to do some testing. I live nearby the T-Mobile HQ , still not officially covered by LTE but I saw an article by OpenSignal stating that there was some LTE activity nearby...

Open Signal is a crowd sourcing app and relies upon user input to give data about available towers and unfortunately no one in my city has used the app so there isn't any tower data available. So not really sure if it can give useful info as to if a tower has LTE, HSPA+ or whatever else may be around. If you live near T-Mo's Headquarters it may be worthwhile doing the LTE fix just to check as it can always be reversed.
Flash the. 33 radio set up apn and go into phone information choose network type lte and run speed test

FYI just because you are in one of the launch markets doesn't mean every tower has live LTE yet so if by have everything set up and you're not getting LTE doesn't mean you did it wrong.

[Q] Cannot get T-Mobile LTE enabled at all

info about my phone:
baseband: .33 right now
ROM: this one at the moment.
also tried this one, this one, and this one
also, its the new white nexus
what I've done so far:
I've tried this on the .33 baseband.
I then found these two zips (1 and 2) to help automate the process a bit, and use those to try baseband .24 and .27 with no change.
then I tried the instructions on this site
and finally, I am now on this rom I mentioned above, which is supposed to have everything done already...
I Know for a fact my area has LTE, as my roommate gets 4G on his S3 every day.
does anyone see anything I might be doing wrong?
Is your roommate using LTE with T-Mobile?
Nexus 4 only supports LTE band 4.

did you update the APN to fast.t-mobile.com? I can't tell in specific so ill just give you a quick run down.
On multiple devices i've done:
1) flash broadband
2) clear caches/factor reset
3) flash AOKP (or CM 10.1)/GAPPS and clear caches
4) flash franco kernel (not necessary but i prefer it) and clear caches.
5) update APNs
6) change to LTE/GSM in phone info settings.

[Q] Get LTE speed on cyanogenmod running on Galaxy Sr

So I have a Galaxy S4 Sgh-i337m (Canadian version) that have a custom recovery(clockwork touch 6) and is rooted. On that phone I have cyanogenmod 10.2 and I've been trying to get an LTE speed without success. I've seen the posts that tell me to change my apn but it haven't work. Currently when I switch data on I either get 4G or H+. I made speed test and the maximum I got is 10MBPS normally it should be around 30 to 75MBPS. So can someone help me get LTE speeds here's a photo of my current APN?
Could be a bunch of issues. Is the network mode set correct? I have noticed at times it is set to 4G to save battery. I have had times after flashing a ROM not connecting to the lte towers until after making a call. Another fix is resetting to default in apn.
Sent from my Nexus 10
Unless they've added an LTE symbol...on CyanogenMod 4G means LTE.
On touchwiz when it displays 4G its pretty much H+, Samsung just likes to make it look better
However you are right...your speed tests aren't lte speeds

When you see 4G on the status bar go to settings >about device>status. Network type should say umts% for 3g, hspda% for hspa+ or lte% for LTE (The % represents a frequency). Then you'll know for sure.

[How to] Disable LTE or 4G

This is useful if you have a weak LTE signal or just don't need it always on. I found this tutorial on a different website for another galaxy phone and it works on the Note 3.
1. Turn off your phone and take out your sim card.
2. Turn on your phone with no sim card and wait a minute or two for it to turn on and settle down.
3. Go to the dialer and dial *#2263#
You should see a menu with band selections. The current setting is "Automatic".
(You have to use the menu key to select your options by using "Key Input" to type the number you want)
If you switch to "GSM All", you will be EDGE (2G).
If you switch to "WCDMA All", you will be on HSPA+ (3G, though AT&T and others call it 4G).
4) Power off the phone again and put your sim card back. Upon reboot you should see your new setting in effect.
I get a service mode that says rat selection is restricted...
However *#*#4636#*#* will allow you to select whatever band you so choose. Although lte only doesn't allow voice calls

Thank you inmotion! This code actually worked better for me on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3. I didn't even have to pull out my SIM card or reboot. Just dial in the code, go to Device Info and change the preferred radio network type. It changes the radio on the fly in real time, and can be seen at the top.

1. Download the free Phone info app from the Google Play Store and install it
2. Choose the Phone Information tab and notice the "Set preferred network type" option at the bottom, marked with an arrow at the right of the drop-down menu
3. Tap on the preferred network listing currently in use, and choose the "CDMA auto (PRL)" option from the drop-down list
4. You should be now maintaining connection to only Verizon's 3G network, and whenever you need to use data, you can switch back to LTE for the duration of it
There are numerous other apps and widgets at the Play Store that claim to do the 2G/3G/4G switch, but many users on Verizon have confirmed the Phone info app to be the only method allowing them to reliably turn off the 4G LTE on their Samsung Galaxy S IIIs.

4.4 and Non-VZW carriers

These issues apply to T-Mobile users installing the current build of 4.4 (and possibly other GSM carriers but I don't have an ATT SIM to test). Motorola is aware of the issue. I read these forums pretty thoroughly and I've been answering these questions all over so I figured I'd just put them all one place. Issues as follows:
- Devices with the LTE radio active cannot send SMS
- Devices with the LTE radio active cannot send MMS (Carrier/Settings dependent)
- Devices with the LTE radio active cannot make phone calls and instantly disconnects on call attempt.
Urban Legends:
- Stock tethering does not work - I have personally tested on TMO and know it does work. Yer doin' it wrong.
Fixes
Easiest fix for now if you're on a device running 4.4 and want to... you know... be able to use your phone... is to use phone information and switch the radio mode over to GSM Only (not the auto one). This fix is a little finicky because if the phone realizes it's not running in the mode selected on your mobile networks screen it will override and turn LTE back on if you haven't selected UMTS only.
Full steps are:
Mobile network settings - Change network mode to LTE/GSM/UMTS
Mobile network settings - Select network UMTS Only
Install app linked below
Open Phone Info and select GSM Only
Phone info apk for sideload - http://www.mediafire.com/download/284l17ry2ok1yuk/Phone_info_1.3.apk
I'll update this thread as I discover more issues or as people post issues that can be replicated below.

but Seriously dude. thanks for this info. I was tired of using my Moto G while my MAXX was just collecting Dust.
Edited the OP for a more clear fix. Thank you to vuphongkkk for pointing out the UMTS only.
I'm on T-Mobile and live in an HSPA+ refarmed area (NYC), but there are places I go on a regular basis that aren't refarmed. I set it on "WCDMA preferred" and voila, I have both 2 & 3G connectivity, with preference given to 3G.
I can't post links, but this XDA thread explains it in more detail I think: ... showthread.php?t=688492
Vodafone confirmed for anyone wondering.
H+ for UMTS only,
Edge for global.

In android mobile network settings should I have network mode as global, LTE/CDMA or LTE/gsm/umts?
If its LTE/gsm/umts do I still use gsm only under select network?
And if I leave phone info installed do I have to change anything on there for LTE to work? Phone info seems to change the network selection in the app on its own so I just stopped messing with it. Thanks and sorry to be a pain

4.2.2 rarely get LTE data. Choose network mode as LTE/gsm/UMTS . select network as automatic. Don't use the phone info. If you already use the phone info app in this thread then use it again to switch back to LTE/gsm.. Or the option that has evething.
Remember to add APN fast.t-mobile.com
But as I mentioned, 4.2.2 has some problem with the radio , so it rarely pick up LTE

Just to add another data point, I have a Droid Mini on stock 4.2.2. I'm connecting to t-mobile with the listed apn info, global and auto. I have LTE the vast majority of the time.
Cheers!
