The other phone updated to pd3
Dont even come close.
The update kills the phone. Im so glad i never updated this one. Its flawless
Sent from my SM-G935P using XDA-Developers mobile app

I took the update cause one of the features was better battery life and I was thinking "it's pretty amazing now I gotta get this update and make it even better"
And it's total garbage. Screw the update and screw Samsung for putting it out. What once was an amazing phone is now dying just as fast as my 6P or HTC whatever.
Samsung needs to fix this crap asap
Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk

On PD3 I've been around 20-24 hours consistently usually around 3.5-4 hours SOT due to work being in an area where I get one bar of 3g consistently
-autobrightness on
-everything on GPS on high
-bluetooth to pebble and tons of streaming music 3+ hours
Compared to the s6 edge this is miles better so no complaints here
Sent from my SM-G935P using Tapatalk

Versus my Nexus 5X (1000 mah smaller battery)
Similar SOT, HUGE difference in Application battery drain (same apps installed on both phones).
Samsung is now a software company my ass.
Even the Note 4 does better on a smaller battery.

The first 2 firmwares show they are capable of producing software with good battery life. Not sure what went wrong with this update but I hope they fix it asap

WiFi eating battery on Note 3

Hey everyone,
My mom just got a new Note 3 (yay!), and I have been quite busy exploring all its features. One thing that is nagging me, however is that both the stock browser and chrome are using up a great deal of battery. Wifi is eating 1% Every 1-2 minutes and while using the browsers this is amplified to a percent every 30 secs!
Please help me.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using xda app-developers app
Wifi has always been a battery vampire.
Do you have brightness set to 100%?
How far are you from the router? A bad signal uses more power.
Is anything syncing in the background?

I just don't understand why they don't use stronger batteries in the first place. I wouldn't mind carry along an additional let's say 50g in exchange for a longer battery life ...

At stand by, the Note 3 hardly uses 1-2% battery every 8 hours or so, but when it comes to calling (core function of the phone!) and wifi+browsers the battery suffers greatly. I haven't tested cellular data yet because of weak signals near my house. Should I let it drop to 0% and charge to 100% or get a new battery? Really disappointed with the battery.
As a general rule you should avoid full discharge/recharge cycles (except for things such as recalibration) as this in the long run shortens the batt's lifetime even more. So it's best to recharge it more often and keep it somewhere between 10-90%.

UPDATE
New update guys:
I left my phone with WiFi on for half an hour and it ate 3% battery from 50% to 47% which includes a phone call. And this time the phone was a bit further away from the router. So, I guess it's not the WiFi that's sucking the juice but the browsers.
Any fix for this?
I too had this same problem with my device i dont know what happened all of a sudden it got everthing allright now but it stuks alot with the ditalix lwp installed

Fixed
Hey,
Well the issue fixed itself. I now have WiFi running with Smart Screen, Air Gestures, Sync, Screen Rotating and using the web browser to do some surfing and battery hasn't dropped a percent since the last few minutes. It got fixed right after another (it's 3rd) charge and it's working now.
Guess I just needed to charge it a few times for it to work. If anyone else is having issues and have charged it only once or twice, try charging it again. Mine was at 47% when I charged.
Requesting a mod to lock this.

Definitely! I was impressed myself, especially since I came from an iPhone that had a depressing 1400mAh battery. In the time it took for one full discharge on my S5, I would have needed to do 1.5-2 charges on my iPhone

Getting outstanding battery life on my g900a. Once someone figures out root for it and i get greenify working properly it should be even better.
Siting at 8H 25M 11S on Battery. AT&T S5. The thing that is killing my battery the most, Gear Fit Manager at a19% then Android at 16% and Screen at 14%. I have only charged 2 times so far since I bought the phone on Sunday, Ran it down to 9-10% yesterday but it took forever to charge. In over two hours of charge time it went from 10% to 37%. My iPhone 5 would have been 100% or close to it. Never had android phone before (really enjoying it) so not sure if this is normal or it will get faster the more charging cycles.
Thanks

Package Disabler Pro on AT%T

I've always used Package Disabler Pro on all my phones for improved battery life.
This time I was getting worse battery life by disabling a bunch of stuff. Now, I'm keeping it simple and disabling most apps through Applications and using Package Disabler Pro for the following 5 apps/processes running in the background. See attachment.
I hope it helps. I'm getting awesome battery life.
Update: Please make sure you enable everything prior to accepting any OTA updates.

I "love" how consistent these things are. The gear vr service has yet to show up in my power consumption lists. I haven't spent any significant time playing inside or watching video in vr yet, but it's all setup and configured and loaded and has been used *some* ... perchance do you have the Oculus auto-update enabled?

I actually haven't done anything with occulus as I don't have the headset yet. So I know that out of the box, the gear vr service is eating battery... I'd assume on all of our devices, since I've literally done nothing with oculus or gear VR yet.
Maybe the service is eating so little that its not worth worrying about. Also, maybe I'm misunderstanding the data im reading... I'm looking under application manager, click 'gear vr service' and I'm looking at the battery percent used since last fully charged
Edit: To me, looking at my screenshot, I'm seeing the gear vr service has eaten 5% of the 28% that's been used so far. Am I right? It would be nice if that was at zero, since I don't use VR... But when I disable this package with PDP, I see my battery life take a noticeable hit.

It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!

After applying disable package? what is that?
After a couple of days, minimal packages disabled, Screen brightness average 75% (half the time 50, half at 100%), Resolution at Max, video enhance On, gps on a little, Hotspot on for about an hour, Bluetooth controller/mouse/keyboard on for about an hour. Pretty impressed! I'm going to disable LOTS tomorrow and see how much better I can get. One thing I noticed, I barely had AOD on today, but yesterday had like 8%, hope they can fix that. Nearly 10% of my battery for AOD is CRAZY!

No complaints here!
The thing that really impresses me the most is the active drain. Every phone I've had was in the high teens and low 20s. When I used to fuss with custom kernels and profiles, if I could get it to 15%/h or a tick less, I was jazzed... But those often came with compromise... More noticeable kernel lag due to fast down/slow up governor profiles, chunky scrolling, etc.
The 2XL sits around a 11%/h average for my typical day to day usage. I've been taking a ton of video and pics the past few days and that crept that average up to closer to 13...
But tonight I'm back at my usual junk and after a full charge I'm sitting at 80% with 2:45 of screen time. That's nuts.
