Shall i upgrade to S7 Edge From Note 4 ?! - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Dear All,
I have Galaxy Note 4 since March 2015 , it still works fine and almost as a new ,, got a new battery a month ago due to the fail of the old one and all working just fine. i was always a fan of Note Series from Samsung and used Note 2 , 3 and 4
I liked the S7 Edge and all reviews are positive for it , the bigger battery and better camera - despite lower MP - but it's enough.
I just feel bored from the Note 4 and i want to get a new device , although i didn't like the edge screen while playing with friends S6 Edge but i guess it's time to try something different.
Do you think that i shall upgrade ? i may sell the Note 4 - will be half price of S7 edge BTW - or give it to my brother or mom as i really still like it
For those who using the dual sim version ,, how is battery life with you while using the dual sim ?!
Thank You !

I went from from Note 4 to the S7 Edge for practically the same reasons as you stated. I wanted something new, bit bored of the Note 4 etc etc.
I've had the S7 Edge for about a month now. No regrets at all. It's a fantastic phone, great battery, themes are really cool, you can change the DPI without root. In fact it's the first phone haven't rooted.
I kept my Note 4 for myself. I use it to watch Netflix at night, as it's a slightly bigger screen and the speakers are better (something to do with the S7 being waterproof)
I have the dual sim version

Do it! You won't regret it.
I upgraded to S7E and just giving the N910C to my wife. I'm loving the S7E, very smooth, feature rich and with great battery life!

I would wait for the Note 6, if rumors are right it would be amazing device with more improvement than S7, defiantly wait for Note 6.
Other than that S7E is the best phone atm and maybe one of the best ever made, it has some performance issues with certain games but other than that it's unbeatable by anything.

I upgraded from Note 5 and really happy i did it.
You wont regret it.

I had the Note 4 (N910f) before as well. Now I have theS7 edge (G935f). I modded the Note 4 very much and felt like I had done everything and was bored. What I also didn't like was the build quality. Of course it had this metal bezel but thats it.
Would I choose the S7 edge again? definitely Yes! The quality is superb. I think it is the first Samsung device that is worth its money regarding its build quality.
I don't really miss the pen, even if I liked the app integration. The water resistent feature is awesome as well. My Xperia Z had it and since then I missed it. I was making underwater videos and pictures in a pool for example. But the key factor is for me the camera. Before I had the S7 edge I didn't even think of taking photos in the dark. This is so cool being able to make photos on partys etc.... I am right now on a semester abroad in Spain and people spending their life here outside all day and night. So I really do a lot of photos and I don't miss a DSLR or whatsoever... I will add two photos I made to show it.

But I would definitely use a case. because otherwise you might touch the edge unintentional. I use the original Samsung leather case --> best choice imho

i would like to hear from someone who have the dual sim version , what is it's processor Exynos or SD , What about the battery life while using the dual sim ?
Thanks @Sunfl4sh to compare against Note 4 , it's really a hard choice to ditch the Note series , specially i will pay twice the price of Note 4 if i managed to Sell it
The photos looks amazing ,, if you can post more photos it will be appreciated
Thanks all for your fast feedback, appreciated

The S7 camera will blow the Note 4 one, no worries there

is it true that i can flash the FD version with F firmware with no problem ??

I also switched from Note 4 to S7 Edge, love the change. Water resistance is a plus and both cameras are great but the S7 one is a bit better.
Also, I just noticed how heavy the N4 really was! The difference is huge.
I do miss the s-pen sometimes, but I still have the N4 so I can always use it whenever I want.

I did. I was a bit unsure about moving to a non-note device but I ended up getting the S7 Edge at a decent price!
I installed all of my apps, launchers etc and it flies.
It's the ONLY phone I've ever had that hasn't been rooted etc.
I personally would say upgrade to the S7 Edge.
It's fantastic, and dude, the camera really is fantastic; it's shockingly good.

So all of you says that it's better to move from Note 4 to S7 Edge ?!
Any one tried the Dual SIM version ?!

I've asked the same question

My sister gave me her S7E as she moved up to the S8. I'm supposed to give my N4 to my nephew who will give his S5 to my mum! I thought would be easy to let go of my N4...it's not!!!

I went from note 4 to note 5... my dad has my note 4 my wife has my note 5 and this s7edge is great espeically with an s8 ROM but i kinda do miss the size of the notes my reccomendation would be to wait for the Note8 OR if you dont wanna pay that ridiculous price then sure get an s7e
i also reccomend the note 5 if it works out cheaper for you

I've just upgraded to a S7 Edge from a Note 4 and although the former is slimmer, lighter, has a gimmicky edge, a better low light camera and a more precise fingerprint sensor I don't think It's worth twice the price (used) as a Note 4. Personally I would wait and see if you can get a refurbished (non exploding) Note 7 re-issue later this Year - for half the price it was new -

Who thinks that the Galaxy S5 is a disappointment?

I already saw the leaked images and feel that the S5 is a taller version of the S4 with ribbed back. And same cheap plastic. No go for me. I think LG or HTC will be winning?
Anyone else disappointed in what the S5 will be?
I think a lot of us are but let see what Samsung does. They are starting the announcement now. We'll have a better opinion afterwards.

The galaxy s1, 2, and 4 all seemed to be big leaps from the prior generation to me. The s3 at the least inherited a whole new design language. I love Sammy but the s5 seems to be a huuuuuge let down. It's not really their fault, most processor, screen, and camera improvements in the last year have been modest. But a let down nonetheless
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
I'm not at all impressed with the design of it. I expected something new with it. To me, this does not feel new. The whole Galaxy Gear and Fit stuff, don't care too much about either.
Now let's go with what I am impressed with. Just from seeing the UI, and hearing it's not packed full of useless S branded crap is a huge plus to me. The fingerprint scanner is pretty nice too.
I know people aren't too keen on Knox, but I'm hoping Samsung did improve on Knox for the corporate sector. The school district I manage the cell phone service for has upgrades coming in a month or two for 90% of the lines, and depending how Knox's security is, this is going to be a deciding factor in the new mobile purchases.
Maybe the version that leaked isn't the premium version. I will pass judgement once the device is officially announced.
I don't like the increases in size and weight, considering it only gets a 0.1" larger screen. The bezels look larger than the S4. Keeping the RAM at 2GB and 16-32GB storage (and, if the past is any indication, 16GB will be the only one readily available) for the 3rd straight generation, while the Note has increased to 3GB/32GB minimum, indicates that this is no longer their flagship phone. I had an S2, skipped the S3, now have an S4, and will skip the S5. Smallest increase in overall specs in the 'S' series yet. Water resistance is nice, but not that big a deal to me. USB3 is a nice upgrade, but that's the only thing that really jumps out at me. Camera is better, but I don't use a camera that much anyways, so doesn't matter to me. VERY happy they are continuing the use of SD cards & removable batteries, though. If I lost my S4 it would be a toss-up for me between the S5 & Note3.
no FM radio
Lack of FM radio is a disappointment. Still prefere phones with good old fashion radio receiver.
i expected more bang, but i guess jumping from my s2 to an s5 is indeed a huge gain!
The design is just...terrible.
I'm glad I purchased a Note 3. The GS5 looks too big to not be in the Note family.
Same RAM, lower perceived screen resolution, same design, really weird UI redesign. Not impressed. Should have been called GS4+
As for the next HTC phone, I have a feeling it will be a disappointment as well.

3 phones I'm interested in, the Z2 (never owned a Sony phone, it may be time), the G3 and iPhone 6. The S5 is a good phone but it just improved the S4. It's a marriage between the S4 and S4 active in what the S4 should have been in the first place. I think if I say S4 once more I'm gonna puke....

It look like a plan B device. Plan A failed for some reason!!
These specs are unacceptable
Everyone was hyping it to be the next best thing. Even a Samsung exec said that they understood how they failed to innovate with the S4. I even expected it to have the 2k resolution screen and camera with OIS since LG was able to do it a few months ago. Samsung sure made the people who bought the Note 3 feel good about their purchases.

"S5" Better call it S4+. Gonna wait to see the Premium version. The design itself nothing new. and the Specs are not terrible (2gb RAM) compared to GN3.
Wait so what is better?
horrid.!! Guess I'm going from 5s to 6. I had high hopes this would bring me back to Android.
Loyal samsung fan for last 3 years. Used all S series and then Note series too. Always loved Samsung but today I just want to cry. Samsung has let me down big big time. Used to make fun of iphone for identical crap but now the time is coming back on me...

Planning to upgrade to Note 4? Here's my experience after 3 weeks.

I've been user of the first generation of Galaxy Note franchise: the Galaxy Note GT-N7000, since 3 years. The phone that back in 2011 was ridiculously big and most of the people said that nobody would use a phone bigger than a 4.5 inch device. The phone that started a new era that now any brand has his own phablet (Xperia ZL, LG G3, HTC One Max, Nokia Lumia 1320 etc). After three years, I've decided to go for the next big phablet, the Note 4.
This is not a review. My english is not so good to elaborate a proper review of every feature of this phone. You can see amazing reviews at Engadget, Android Police, Youtube or even here in XDA)

If you thought that your N7000 was reeeeaally big, then get prepared for the Note 4. It's taller than his grandfather, but also is less wide so it's nice in hands.
The N7000 is 78,6 x 153,5 mm while the N910C is 82,95 x 146,85 mm. The weight is almost the same, just 4 grams less than the Note 1.
Build Quality:
I think this is the most important difference between both phones. We all know that Samsung ditched polycarbonate in favor to metal. The ORIGINAL (later I will explain why I call it original) Note 4 comes with a brand new metallic frame with chamfered edges and a soft matte strip with the same color of the phone (cold white, pearl black, pink). Personally I don't know why they're still using polished metal for phones, did they not learn the lesson with the iPod touch? The HTC One? The iPhone 4, 5, 5S? Two days after using my Note 4, I saw a lot of scratches on on them, and after a week, it started to oxydize due to hands sweat. I was so angry that I've took metal polisher and started to polish it. The scratches disappeared, but then I polished the matte white strip.. HOLY DIFFERENCE! The phone now have a glossy finish and, due to this, a better grip. Take a look:
Screen
I never saw a better screen than the one in my N7000, until now. The Note 4 comes with a incredibly sharp 2K Amoled screen clocked at 60Hz. It's fast and inmerssive, and the best? There's no input lag. View angles are nice in both phones, the colors are morea accurate, the brightness is nice at direct sunlight and in dark enviorments.
Battery and OS:
I never thought that a phone could run out of battery after 2 days of heavy use. AMAZING BATTERY USAGE. My Note 1 can't stay turned on more than 6 hours. Also, Ultra Power Saving mode does his job pretty well. About the OS, it comes with Kitkat 4.4.4. If you're using AryaMod in the GT-N7000 and switch to the Note 4, you will not notice too much difference. And that's due to Samsung's Touchwiz. Belive or not, Touchwiz is getting better. Almost lag free and very, VERY smooth than before. The only lag issue I found is trying to open the recent apps menu for first time, but that's something that Lollipop claims to fix so I'm not too worried.
So that's it. Belive me, the 700USD that this phone costs are totally worth. If you can afford it, go and get one. You will never regret. Thanks to everyone in this community, it's time to turn off my N7000, pull out the battery and save it in my desktop's drawer. Good luck!
Good luck with your new Phablet buddy.
Cheers!
No more good thing for N7000!To bed!!!
Thank you.
I am with a N7000 as well (bought at launch, and still in perfect condition!) but was thinking of upgrading to the Note4 because the Note1 is getting too slow even with custom roms.
As soon as the Note4 drops under 500€ I'll get one!
M also dying for note 4, but waiting for a good price drop. My note 1 also lags like hell even on custom roms.

Nice thread. Enjoy your phone
@galaxynote2 : could you please share the weather widget of your N7000 ?
Got it a few days ago. The upgrade from 1 to 4 was impressive, especially on the pen.
[email protected] BOC5 stock, for now.
I have the note 1 and I would like to buy the note 4 but I'd like to know if the 720p videos look pixelated in the note 4 because most of my music videos are in 720p and they look superb in the note 1, but the 480p videos look pixelated, i believe that because of the high resolution of the galaxy note 4 ( 1440 x 2560 pixels "2K") my 720p videos will look pixelated .
I upgraded from the Note 1 to Note 4 a few months back and yes it was quite stunning right from the beginning with that unlock animation which shows off the amazing screen. I knew I had made the right choice when I took my first photo outdoors and compared it with the Note 1; of course the latter was no match either in terms of the photo itself or the screen to watch it on. The Note 1 was amazing back in the day and we should be glad how much progress was made in just three years. I rather suspect that this will slow down and and I doubt the gap between the Note 7 and Note 4 will be nearly as large.
TouchWiz is crappy, you can not look [emoji16]

Design & Material
This is the most beauty touch screen phone Samsung ever release, the dual edge side make the whole phone one step ahead the premium elegance look than normal S6. This is also the most beauty touch screen phone I ever own. The material and craftsmanship is solid well build. Due to both side glass with sparkling surface, more clean wipe the surface is necessary to maintain it beauty.
Price
Frank speaking RM 3,099.00 is a bit too expensive, it is more reasonable price at RM 2,899.00 (inclusive GST). By the way I from Malaysia.
Performance
Everything is smooth and speedy, they is no place to complain on it performance, I am no regret and no miss selling off my previous phone Nexus 6 which the performance is less than what I expected. I don't blame Nexus 6 but instead Qualcomm Snapdragon, Qualcomm release junk processor after the last success S801.
Touchwiz UI
From already good in Note 4, now under S6/S6 Edge is step ahead greater, every part is so smooth with welcome fully customizable themes support. Thanks Samsung remove those unnecessary feature where not really useful. The only part Samsung need to take note is the first time opening emoticon at keyboard do take few seconds delay, others than that, I had no complain in any of it from performance to design. Thumbs up to Samsung on this new UI design.
Camera
If you zoom in, you will notice Samsung had change the algorithm on processing the photo, it is just too good to miss. I must said it is by far the best ever release mobile camera. One word "Outstanding".
Loud Speaker
With only single speaker, the output is unbelievable great, off course it won't better than my previous Nexus 6 dual speaker but I ain't miss it also.
Screen
The best screen I ever have! It is even better than Note 4. It just simply great with pure white and just nice vividness.
Reception and Call Quality
Finally Samsung solve the reception issue in Note 4, that is the reason I sold my Note 4 previously. Beside this, the call quality is the best I ever have.
Battery Life
After few days usage, I can only said S6 Edge battery life is not that great, it is similar poor as my previous Nexus 6, it confirm won't last a day for a high moderate user. I am so miss my Note 4 battery life.
Wireless Charging & Fast Charging
The wireless charging is real cool and easier to use, I never though it actually not so slow, just like an old time charging speed. Fast Charging is real fast! I mean real fast! Far ahead than Note 4 and Nexus 6. But! The whole phone is freaking HOT! during charging which already over comfortable level to even hold it, is this good? I really doubt on battery life cycle on any kind of fast charging implement.
Controversial Issue
Is the out of the box screen scratch issue real -YES! My first unit open is badly scratch out from the box, so I suggest everyone do proper check before leaving the shop.
Is the Dual Edge gimmicks - Basically not really for me, this dual edge is just for enhanced the beauty of the phone not for added tones of extra features. Come on! the edge is only slightly at side not like the Note edge which over wide for added unnecessary features. What the point using edge for functionally but not using the main real screen. I just don't get it. I only wish the edge is also light up for every incoming call even the main screen not put face down the table.
In overall, I give this phone 9.5 out of 10 scores.
Sample photos taken with Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge
Nice review. Like mine too but there is a slight pink tint on mine so the whites are not so white
Can you post some pics of a pure white background on your phone? Did you compare the screen to a normal s6? You'll find the edge has darker screen

Mine one no such issue and during comparing at shop, the S6 Edge screen is more vividness and life appealing to me, I don't find it darker than S6.

Hi Moderator,
can you add another poll entry with "Soft Key Navigation"
The reasons I WON'T be getting the S8+:F
Facial Recognition (intrusive)
IRIS Scanner (intrusive)
Fingerprint Scanner (intrusive)
Bixby (Hal, Oblivion)
No IR Blaster (DSLR, not TV Remote)
No SPen (Note user NECESSITY)
Enclosed Battery
So then, what are the Pro's?
Screen
360
Processor
Camera
Water Resistance
Why do you think face recognition is obtrusive? Microsoft use the technology and have done for a whole. Also are you scared to go outside as there is cctv camera everywhere. Also fingerprint readers have been on the past 2 Galaxy phones.
wheres the 'just because' option?!
Expensive week this week as pre-ordered the s8+ and receive my Tab s3 today
Clearly only going for it for the screen size in a size that isn't much bigger then what I'm currently using. I really hope I can sell my soul to buy it
Bluetooth 5.0 for me. Bluetooth is good but you should be able to move to another room without loosing connection. Faster network speeds will be great when the carriers catch up.
Because I upgrade every year and love Samsung phones. I always try new OEMs but at the end of the day, I always end up on a Samsung phone which typically is the Note series.
I haven't had a Samsung since the s3. I figured with that beautiful display it's time to try another one out. Also hopping that it being a such a highly anticipated device that root will come quick. My last 3 devices have been overlooked and I miss it. The only drawback I see it the fingerprint scanner, such a weird placement but I guess we'll see. 4-21 can't get here fast enough :/
Pre-ordered it because of everything about it. I love how touch wiz has been redone. Honestly, if there hadn't been any changes at all to the previous versions of Touch wiz it would be a deal breaker. It's been years since I've had a micro SD card reader (Nexus) I haven't dealt with a Samsung phone since the s4. I may not even care about root on this one. Do or die apps for me are Nova Launcher and my VPN app. Looking forward to Samsung pay also. I am looking forward to getting my hands on it. I won't ramble any longer.
I've got a Note 7 that I've been hanging onto ever since the recall. Already got a refund but didn't want to downgrade to a S7E. The Note 7 was a fantastic phone, and the S8+ keeps all it's best features, plus a better processor and larger screen, in a package that's only marginally bigger than the Note. I'll miss the S-Pen, but it's time to move on. Also for me, Samsung Pay is a big reason to stick with the company, as it beats the other mobile payment systems hands down...
I pre-ordered the S8+ because I went thru (2) Note 7's, (1) S7 - which was temp phone during the explosive era, and ended up revisiting my original LG v10 (all under JUMP! v1)
So with that said JUMP! v1 became eligible on 03-01-17. . . I did just that. . . .JUMP!
My next eligible date for JUMP! V1 is on 08-02-17 . . . . so if there is a new phone worth moving on to . . . . I'll move on (especially if promo includes really good stuff. . .
Its all about the screen.
I had all the phones. The note 7 was great but they poo that.
So back to the s7 edge. Which is a nice phone, but the s8 has a wonder looking screen. The home button and fingerprint scranner will take some getting use to but over all it looks damn nice. Wonder what the s10 or s12 will look like lol...
This is the best reason to buy the s8+ its that screen.

I currently have a N6 and I love the size and the wireless charging.
Pixel and a few other of the new flagship phones are too small and have no wireless charging.

The water resistance and the non removable battery kind of go together dont they?
As for all the "intrusive" functions you can always just disable them
The S8 ts not a Note and does not pretend to be one, perhaps you are in the wrong forum area?

Anyone pre ordered using the Samsung Annual Upgrades program? £33.50 per month for 2 years plus £79 up front.
What's multi image processing?
Two reasons because it still seems smaller than the iPhone 6S+ I am coming from & because I watch a lot of You Tube on my phone these days so the bigger the screen the better.
In a nutshell, it keeps everything the S7 has, and adds a lot to it. No features are removed from the S7, an already great phone, and lot of stuff was just pumped up and increased, making the good packet even better, no gimmicks (well, maybe Bixby?)
I'm coming from the S6, I probably wouldn't upgrade if I had an S7, but the improvements in pretty much every area are so big when coming from the S6 that, in my opinion, it's worth an upgrade. :good:

First Impression of my Verizon Samsung Galaxy S8+

I picked up my pre-ordered Verizon S8+ at Best Buy yesterday. It took 15 minutes to migrate everything from my S7 edge using the PC version of SmartSwitch. All my settings and apps migrating almost perfectly. Only problem was that the app data didn't migrate. I had to execute each of my apps and initialize them as if they were just installed from GooglePlay Store.
I love this phone! As an ex Note 7 & 7s owner (yes I bought & return both), the S8+ is the perfect size for me, but I have big hands and long fingers. I have no problem using the fingerprint reader on the back of the phone next to the camera lens. It works much better than the S7 fingerprint reader on the home key!
Its snappy, no lag, and it feels like a truly premium phone. Software update G955USQU1AQD9 was applied upon startup, so don't restore your apps until after the OTA. The update seems to be pretty extensive but I didn't find any change log so I'm not sure what was changed but who cares, its a new device.
So far I am glad I upgraded from the S7 edge.
update was for no remapping of the Bixby button... but I agree it's an awesome phone but some people have been unlucky with the red tint and all

How does the speaker phone audio compare with the s7 edge? Louder or not

Way louder surprisingly
Phone has been great except for the voice to text. It's horrible. I can put my s7 edge and my daughter note 4 next to my s8+ and turn on the mic and both the s7 and note 4 get it perfect every time but the s8 is so out there it's unbelievable. It never gets it right.

So glad mine didn't have this update out of the box, will not be updating until either root or unlocked bootloader exploit is found or if theres some crazy good reason to.
How is the battery life ? And does the device get really hot after a few hours of screen on time ? I used to own the Galaxy S6 Edge, and that device got really hot. I wasn't sure if it was the processor, or the battery. But after installing my apps, that phone got really hot, even if i was just watching videos on YouTube. Is this an issue with S8 plus ? I am considering getting one.

My lady and I had the Galaxy S4 and the battery was horrible. She just purchased the S8+ a couple of weeks ago and it lasts all day with the same amount of usage. The S4 would die within a couple of hours doing the same tasks. She hasn't noticed it getting hot yet as the S4 would.
I have had my S8+ since Friday, and I'm blown away by the battery.
