Who thinks that the Galaxy S5 is a disappointment? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I already saw the leaked images and feel that the S5 is a taller version of the S4 with ribbed back. And same cheap plastic. No go for me. I think LG or HTC will be winning?
Anyone else disappointed in what the S5 will be?

I think a lot of us are but let see what Samsung does. They are starting the announcement now. We'll have a better opinion afterwards.
Sent from my LG-D950 using Tapatalk

The galaxy s1, 2, and 4 all seemed to be big leaps from the prior generation to me. The s3 at the least inherited a whole new design language. I love Sammy but the s5 seems to be a huuuuuge let down. It's not really their fault, most processor, screen, and camera improvements in the last year have been modest. But a let down nonetheless

I'm not at all impressed with the design of it. I expected something new with it. To me, this does not feel new. The whole Galaxy Gear and Fit stuff, don't care too much about either.
Now let's go with what I am impressed with. Just from seeing the UI, and hearing it's not packed full of useless S branded crap is a huge plus to me. The fingerprint scanner is pretty nice too.
I know people aren't too keen on Knox, but I'm hoping Samsung did improve on Knox for the corporate sector. The school district I manage the cell phone service for has upgrades coming in a month or two for 90% of the lines, and depending how Knox's security is, this is going to be a deciding factor in the new mobile purchases.

Maybe the version that leaked isn't the premium version. I will pass judgement once the device is officially announced.

I don't like the increases in size and weight, considering it only gets a 0.1" larger screen. The bezels look larger than the S4. Keeping the RAM at 2GB and 16-32GB storage (and, if the past is any indication, 16GB will be the only one readily available) for the 3rd straight generation, while the Note has increased to 3GB/32GB minimum, indicates that this is no longer their flagship phone. I had an S2, skipped the S3, now have an S4, and will skip the S5. Smallest increase in overall specs in the 'S' series yet. Water resistance is nice, but not that big a deal to me. USB3 is a nice upgrade, but that's the only thing that really jumps out at me. Camera is better, but I don't use a camera that much anyways, so doesn't matter to me. VERY happy they are continuing the use of SD cards & removable batteries, though. If I lost my S4 it would be a toss-up for me between the S5 & Note3.

no FM radio
Lack of FM radio is a disappointment. Still prefere phones with good old fashion radio receiver.

i expected more bang, but i guess jumping from my s2 to an s5 is indeed a huge gain!

The design is just...terrible.

I'm glad I purchased a Note 3. The GS5 looks too big to not be in the Note family.

Same RAM, lower perceived screen resolution, same design, really weird UI redesign. Not impressed. Should have been called GS4+
As for the next HTC phone, I have a feeling it will be a disappointment as well.

3 phones I'm interested in, the Z2 (never owned a Sony phone, it may be time), the G3 and iPhone 6. The S5 is a good phone but it just improved the S4. It's a marriage between the S4 and S4 active in what the S4 should have been in the first place. I think if I say S4 once more I'm gonna puke....
Sent from my LG-D950 using Tapatalk

It look like a plan B device. Plan A failed for some reason!!
These specs are unacceptable

Everyone was hyping it to be the next best thing. Even a Samsung exec said that they understood how they failed to innovate with the S4. I even expected it to have the 2k resolution screen and camera with OIS since LG was able to do it a few months ago. Samsung sure made the people who bought the Note 3 feel good about their purchases.

"S5" Better call it S4+. Gonna wait to see the Premium version. The design itself nothing new. and the Specs are not terrible (2gb RAM) compared to GN3.

Wait so what is better?

horrid.!! Guess I'm going from 5s to 6. I had high hopes this would bring me back to Android.

Loyal samsung fan for last 3 years. Used all S series and then Note series too. Always loved Samsung but today I just want to cry. Samsung has let me down big big time. Used to make fun of iphone for identical crap but now the time is coming back on me...

note for the win
I was really considering the One X before i watch this video (even though I don't have a clue what he is saying ) but after seeing this it's like there is a HUGE difference in screen size!!
I was thinking 0.6 wouldn't be that much to lose but it seems it is, damn you Note
Yeah I thought exactly the same but screen size on ONE X seems a lot smaller and I think we are all doomed to wait for Galaxy Note II or so!!!
I still say this phone is going to have major battery complaints.

I'm going to get One X when it is on sale in the UK and sell my Note. As much as I enjoy using the Note the last 5 months and still think the Note's screen and expendable memory is great benefit compared to the One X. I'm mainly changing for the 4.0 software shipped with HTC. Had Samsung kept their promise of ICS update by end of April, I'd be happy with keep on using Note, but I'm starting to get sick with general slowness of Gingerbread.
The pic alone should be sufficient to see how this comparison does not make any sense as all the others comparing the Note with "the rest"...
The Note is THE SOLE AND ONLY ACTUALLY USABLE SMARTPHONE TODAY, the One X is just one of the other countless, useless stupidphones I am no more interested in.
Most concerning part of htc one x is battery.
Does 1800 mAh battery will enough for 4.7inch device?
Note have 2500 mAh
One more thing i suspect is GPS, note have dual support gps + glonass, n thats y mote having marvelous gps fix, hardly i do have read complain about this, i think one x don't have glonass.
No memory card slot also annoying part for one x.
Some positive thing is powerful processor, n preinstalled ICS for htc x.
Overall i do stick with note only, if i explain just one reason, can't compromise screen size anymore.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
He basically put down some specs and display comparison. He has that the one x, has that outsticking camera is a minus for the phone since it more likely gonna scratch. He also said that the screen viewing angle is almost edge on edge but NOTE is slightly better. Both are fast phones. Also his conclusion is the HTC one x is a great phone smaller better pocketable but the Note is still the slightly better all around phone. But the size can be a issue with some. And I didn't translate it word for word just a short version.

Sold my Galaxy Note, upgraded to GNexus

Reasons:
S-Pen scratches screen.
Can't use with one hand.
Display issues, banding, lines and distortions.
Heavy
Battery drains too quickly
Flimsy battery cover
ICS upgrade taking too long
Price is tanking too fast
Phone feels slower than Gnexus when it has better hardware.
TouchWiz crap
No LED notification
I sold my used phone for 550$, which is now the average selling price for brand new one. I bought at 680$ a few months back. The reason I had bought it is to act has a dual purpose device and omit buying a tablet and new phone. For that purpose, it does its job well but Samsung really cheapened out on the materials and slacking on software updates.
Got myself a brand new Galaxy Nexus for only 350$ (price error) and I find 10x better than Galaxy Note. I will never buy any other android phone if it's not from the Nexus line. I love the Nexus modern design and feel and progressive updates directly from Google. I use to have a Nexus S which was the THE phone that lured me away from my BB.
Good luck with the rest of you, I hope it brings you happiness as it did for me for a few months. Now I migrate to Nexus sub-forums.

Good Luck Mate!
I migrated from GNexus to GNote. I wouldn't give my reasons, as It would obviously start a disagreement here at the forums. I'm 10x Happier with the Note, except for the ICS part.
From My Nexus Experience,
= Use the GNexus Toolkit to Flash the ICS 4.0 Latest version (With Wallet, because the Other gave me errors). Before flashing, Make sure to get Root Access and Unlock Bootloader. If Flashing produces errors, or gives you bootloops, Erase the existing firmware using Manual Dos Commands in Fastboot mode. Relock the Bootloader after flashing, if you hate seeing the Padlock sign. For everything, Use the GNexus Toolkit, I think its a sticky in the development forum.
Have fun!
We obviously don't care about your opinion and are very happy to see go one less whiner is good for everyone else on this forum.
S-Pen scratches screen.- There's a thing called screen protectors. Use one.
Can't use with one hand.- Samsung included a one-hand operation keyboard if that's what you mean.
Display issues, banding, lines and distortions.- Supercurio is working on a fix and can be semi-fixed by setting screen mode to dynamic.
Heavy- Really? This phone is barely heavier than the iPhone 4S. You must be a weak man, work out!
Battery drains too quickly- Ahaha. yeah right
Flimsy battery cover- Flimsy or flexible? The Nexus uses the same one bro, just curved. And there are aluminum ones you can buy.
ICS upgrade taking too long- Have you tried custom roms, I mean this XDA where you get the latest and the greatest.
Price is tanking too fast- This one is the funniest one of all, the GNexus price is the one that is falling. A new GNexus on the Play Store is sold for $399 no contract, while a used N7000 will sell for $540.
Phone feels slower than Gnexus when it has better hardware.- I think you have a placebo effect going on.
TouchWiz crap- Custom roms? I wonder if you've ever used one?
Migrated from SGS2 to Note, and surely I feel this is better upgrade. The major deciding factor for me is the screen, if you need the biggest screen out there, you have to be here. Each to his own though....good luck
it'll be funny when he used Gnexus for a week and then think to himself, 'why the heck did I sell my Note? '
What's more funny is to see ppl using Xda forum yet not trying out new roms.
And I cannot see the Nexus have a better battery life than the Note. Stock wise.

Doesn't the Nexus have the same banding problems? It's the same screen tech. Anyway, most of the OP's reasons are kinda stupid. And the s-pen scratching the screen??? The screen can't be scratched by plain steel, the s-pen's plastic nub isn't gonna do a thing.

[Q] Which smartphone is best Xperia S, Google Nexus 4 or Samsung S2?

I want to buy cheaper smartphone so I need help to choose between Sony Xperia S, Google Nexus 4 LG, Samsung S II or HTC One S
I doubt between Sony and LG
I don't like the fact that Xperia S has not responsive buttons, bad view angle, not enough support by android updates, low quality of camera shooting at night, i hate the lg nexus because it is made of glass and easy breakable, low quality camera, low internal storage without card slot, I think that LG is not quality brand
N4.
Definitely the Nexus 4.

wrong comparison, should be N4, GS3, Droid Dna and Note 2
Nexus 4.
if you are ever going to drop your phone and dont believe in cases... then you need the at&t or international verson of the gs2.
Nexus 4 by a long shot. The other phones can't even compete on many levels
I wouldn't be put off just because it's LG, it has easily one of the best build qualities for an android phone
The camera isn't bad by any means, it's in fact been praised by many professional photographers for producing realistic photos which you can edit yourself. Plus it's not as easy to break as you might think from reading some of the threads on here
Top of the line current generation hardware vs previous generation hardware, which I think would be the middle of the pack currently.. no contest.

I don't have the phone yet, but I digress...
Unfortunately, nothing to my knowledge besides Japanese 'super phones', as well as some other concept phones, has optical zoom, yet. Miserable, in my opinion, as the technology has been there for years (look up 'origami lens').
As for digital zoom, in my not-so-humble opinion, it is an absolute farce and one of the most misleading advertising 'perks' to ever be baked into a product. It does nothing but stretch the pixels on an existing photograph, decreasing quality and limiting what you could have caught in your shot. Post-processing (ie. cropping) can often yield higher-quality results than can on-the-fly digital zoom, so to me it is largely pointless.
So yes, to my knowledge, the N4 has digital zoom...but I strongly encourage you to avoid using it all too often, unless you need to effectively crop a picture that you will be emailing/texting or such...then it has a bit of a point.
(okay, admittedly, it does have a bit of a point on phones, but I just can't stand it when I see a camera advertised as having some ridiculous level of digital zoom, as if it is some amazing thing...far too many times have I heard people who are shopping for a lower-end camera get caught up on comparing digital zoom factors)
---
Edit: As for the bumper bit, from what I have read, the phone *does* break relatively-easily, if you were to drop it, especially on a hard surface. Having a case/bumper does, per my reading, significantly decrease the chance of this happening.
The n4 is in a different league compared to those two. Its not even comparable.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
The Nexus 4 is by far the newest and most powerful of the bunch you listed.
so neither of them offers optical zoom?
I can't buy the Nexus 4 from google play store, because still my country is not listed, what do you think what will be price to buy from somewhere else after December 12 ?
Which one's battery last longer, every site has different results
I just came out of the S2 to get the N4 and I have to say that the N4 beats it out of the water by far. I've flashed AOKP and CM just to try to get that stock android feel and it just doesn't compare. The endless bugs drove me insane. Go for the N4, I'm positive you won't regret it at all.

Galaxy Grand 2 launching in India in first week of January

Samsung*recently made the Galaxy Grand 2 official, and now the company has unveiled the device in one of the original Galaxy Grand’s most important market at a dedicated launch event. The second-generation Grand will be launching in India in the first week of January – a price tag hasn’t been mentioned, but according to*BGR, it should be priced somewhere between Rs. 22,900 (~ $370) and Rs. 24,900 (~ $400). That’s not exactly the most sensible price in a market like India, where local players offer much better hardware at lower prices (not to mention the Galaxy S3 can be had for around the same price), but Samsung’s brand and marketing power should ensure the Grand 2 is every bit a success as the original Grand.
When it comes to specs, the Galaxy Grand 2 sports numerous upgrades over its predecessor, mainly in the screen, CPU, and software department. There’s a 5.25-inch screen with 720p resolution, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 8-megapixel rear camera with 1080p video recording, 2-megapixel front-facing camera, 8GB of internal storage expandable via microSD cards (up to 64GB), and a 2,600 mAh battery. It runs on Android 4.3 out of the box, which technically makes it compatible with the Galaxy Gear, though it remains to be seen if Samsung will officially offer Galaxy Gear support considering the device’s mid-range nature.

Not worth the price... screen is too big IMO. 5" is already on the borderline of being useless unless you have a gigantic hand... ideal screen is like 4.5-4.7" Moto G is a much better deal, all around great price with reasonable specs and almost vanilla stock Android.. but I guess there is not much choice in the dual SIM world.

i just know one thing..from next time better take a phone with rich ppi and Non broadcomm processor... (coz lets be fair, it reduces quality and makes things work)..its bettr sm1 take oldy nexus 4....better then dat atleast its smthng with non broadcomm thing.(i hate this weak chipset)...its dual core is mostly similar to one core of a good quality chipset...second is ppi..300+ ppi is demand today.....and don't have it..
not to forget most games play on our grand in low quality bcoz our resolution is sick.....!!
so is grand 2 resolution (if we compare with today's good phones)..
A price of 19000 to 21 thousand is too overpriced
http://www.prodsea.com/Samsung-Galaxy-Grand-2/mobiles-price-1003-1994
Nothing different to the earlier grand, just a better ram and some minor changes. Not worth to go for it when Nexus or an Galaxy S3 is in a little more reach
Samsung was clever, Grand lines isn't targeted for geeks who value specs... it's for ordinary people who desire a decent and affordable dual SIM device. i9082/L had everything to satisfy ordinary people: dual SIM, 8MP camera, 5" screen albeit low res, but Samsung knows ordinary people just won't recognize the difference, and the most important... the price.
Now Samsung seems to be lost at its own goal, ok they want to satisfy ordinary people with this but they shouldn't have increased the price... all the upgrades are on the specs side, which ordinary people rarely understands and values.

Grand 2 is really overpriced.
Better get Sony Xperia ZL or Xperia ZR for this price as they are way better phones than the Grand or Grand 2.
Samsung tried make this Grand thing look classy with leather look plastic, but it's ridiculous. Not a phony if the price was cheap
And now I heard from gsmarena.com there will be Grand Neo(Lite) launch in mid-February, the spec is come between Grand first and Grand 2.
I think this is a Joke,
Well the faux leather is Samsung's response to consumer complaints about their horrible build quality... using Hyperglaze plastic which is slippery, fingerprint magnet, and so outdated (like a 2006 phone). But it's just fooling the consumers really... I have seen Note 3 Ads with text like "delicate leather stitching" DUDE ARE YOU F***ING SERIOUS THIS IS STILL PLASTIC. I mean if they really want to go with plastic why choose the Hyperglaze or the faux leather. Why can't they use soft-touch plastic like the one in Nexus 5. I just never understand Samsung's design philosophy...
I seriously would prefer if they release few high quality products, not a lot of them but with the same recycled faux leather design and juggling alternative specs... one thing for sure is that however high-end a Samsung phone specs is, it will always have lags due to Touchwiz.

Note 3 vs Galaxy s5

If rumours are correct, and the screen size is the very slightest bit smaller, would you sell your note 3 for a Galaxy s5.
The reason I ask this is because on my other thread for kit Kat btu being delayed and us being shafted, would the s5 get the latest next update?
And if the screen is brighter, and better looking, and 4k video recording etc etc, would you sacrifice a slightly smaller screen for the s5 if it turns out better? Or do we stick with the note 3 for great battery life?

No SPen. Less battery life. Smaller screen. Not for me. Maybe a good phone for my girlfriend, but definitely not me, because my hands are big.

No.

It's going to be interesting though, only according to rumours, different design, and better specs,

I don't know, but if this is S5, I'm buying! Lol.

It'll take a lot for me to downgrade my screen size, I don't use SPEN so not fussed about that... So depends what it looks like really.
Sorry guys, I'm noob, I can't comprehend what BTU is... What is it guys ?
P.S: If S5 comes with QHD resolution, 400+ dpi, at least 5.3 inch display, 3gb of ram, a GREAT OIS on camera, better sound quality and 60fps 4k record. It will be nice, if i have the money i totally change it.
BTU means it's not locked to any phone network,

No, I'd be much more likely to wait for the Note 4, and if rumors are true, the recent Google talks toward a less modified UI would be a great thing. By then, we are likely to have even better camera optics. I'll wait and be happy with what I've got.
Can't see going to a smaller screen.
I will not be downgrading to a s5 - lol
There is a reason why Note phones come out with iphones in the fall, and the note4 will b better than s5.
Also, I just got my N3, just rooted it, and haven't even scratched the surface yet as far as what it can do, only a fool would give it up this early.
(the s5 is for the s3 owners what want to use their eligible upgrade).
well Not really
surely it will have better specs but it will be small for me
also the new update or new TouchWiz will be ported by our great devs anyway so let's wait for note 4

This post took me too long to write to have it die 8 seconds later at #10 on the 1st page
note 3 win
The point I'm trying to make is, if and only if rumours are true, would you sacrifice all better specs for 2 inches screen size,?

Well according to rumors the s5 will be the same specs only higher display resolution and maybe better camera... other then that it's all the same snapdragon 800 and 3gb of ram... for me it's kinda downgrade cuz i love the display on the note 3 and frankly I don't see any need for higher resolution on a smaller display... and the camera is pretty good for my needs... 4k recording is stunning on the note 3, and also I love the spen.

Besides, the S4 hasn't had any love from Samsung... The note 3 has had KK released to most of Europe but only Russia has had it for the S4.
Note all the way
IMO i would wait for some time after s5 is released for the Note 4. Might be the same specs, just better, also with Spen.
No way, S5 not for me.
- smaller screen
- less battery life
- no s pen
- will it have 3gb ram? with all the samsung bloat, we need as much ram as we can get
It doesn't matter to me if the S5 will have a better design, most of us put some kind of protection over our expensive devices so you never see the design anyway.
I'll wait for the Note 4 in September which will have all the features of the S5 but with.
5.9" QHD screen
64bit Snapdragon 810
4GB of ram
Plus a updated version of the new Touchwiz, but with less bloat hopefully
Android 4.5 or 5.0 64bit version
Let put it this way the Note 4 will be a beast of a phone, making the S5 look very underpowered.
No S pen, thank you very much... Still I will be following the whole event on 24 to see what Samsung will put.
