E5803 Fingerprint Reader/Root/Radio - Xperia Z5 Compact General

My out of the box E5803 had the fingerprint reader functionality even though it was the 'US' version (I think)
I followed this excellent guide here for root using the US custom ftf and it worked but I lost fingerprint scanner. http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact/general/summary-tutorial-root-sony-xperia-z5-t3360515
Reading other threads I noticed some people using the UK version instead (which I did) and now I have root and the fingerprint reader works again.
My radio seems to have changed however and is now '4G' instead of 'LTE'
Is there anyway to flash just the radio back to the US version?
In the end not a huge deal but I'd like to know.

I don't think it's a radio issue that it shows 4G instead of LTE. Just a matter of how it is displayed in the international version. Flashing a different radio may not change that. You should still be getting LTE speeds.
You might be able to get it to display LTE by editing the properties in build.prop to match US version but that may be a bit risky.

If it's just the icon I don't care. When I look at available connection types in the network settings it doesnt list LTE .. only CDMA/GSM etc
If it's just the icon missing it's probably fine.

Here's what mines shows. I flashed customized UK version.

Yep same here..
The speed is fine with the 4G icon so it's probably really LTE with the 4G icon. Cellular standby is eating a lot of battery but I do not think thats related. Maybe I'll just keep on keepin on

isn't 4G and LTE the same thing?

July 2010 Eris Radio - 2.42.01.04.27

I've extracted the radio.img file from the latest official Eris update (2.42.01.04.27) and packaged it up into an update-able zip. I've installed it on mine and everything works. No apparent change in bars, but I'll do more testing with Wifi and BT soon.
As with anything, no guarantees, you apply this at your own risk.
I'm not sure everything that they've changed, but the official release notes mention Jabra bluetooth pairing fix.
Let me know what, if any, change you see in Wifi/CDMA/EV-DO/BT functionality.

Thanks, but not flashing any radio without a hash number. Do you have it?
Can you post an MD5 for this?

Thanks, I've applied the update and it appears at first glance to be working.

Worked for me... I show some what of an improvement in signal. not much though...
Looks like i still have the 2.36.605.1 software version too. The OTA will give you 2.37.605.4... My radio is updated though. No noticeable change, should I run a *22800 just to see?
Eris running xtrROM 3.0.3 Jit and Apps2SD on.
has anyone tried this on the froyo roms yet?
Updated. Thanks. Can't see a difference, but I still like to have the latest

latest official Eris update verizon has the eris not sprint
My WiFi signal is much stabler now. Usually when I wake up the wifi is "connected" but passes no data and I have to turn off and turn it back on. That did not happen today.
PS: I'm running CELB 2.8
Just applied to my Eris running KaosFroyo V23... everything is just fine. Pretty much same signal strength and I am noticing the wifi seems "faster."
(accidental post)
thanks for this. just updated. im hoping I dont get the battery drain like I did from the last radio update...will report back findings after testing for a few days.

This is the same radio that has been available since April. I've been running it in my phone since May. I've notices no difference that I can tell.
Flashed my eris running ClebFroyo 1.4 and it worked great. Went from my average 2 bars in my house to full bars all the time
Sent from my ERIS using XDA App

Gonna run it down and do a calibration for the new radio but battery is not great so far.

[Q] Connectivity Issues?

Hey Guys,
I've been using PureSpeedX (KitKat) 3.0.8 as my daily driver for a long time. I love its speed and stability, but there is one thing that really urks me, and that is the 3G/HDSPA connectivity!
I'm using the latest version of PSX available for the Mako, with baseband version :
M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0.1700.98
I'm also using the default kernel that comes with the rom.
Now, here's my issue:
I am with Wind Mobile in Canada.
I live in the Hamilton area, and the connectivity on this phone is always acting up.
or example, I'll have full bars, and once I try to open anything, 2/3 times it fails, and the third, it will finally go through.
When It is trying to connect, I see it sends ~ 110b then just goes to 0 while still in 3G mode, and this happens ~ 5 times before the app I'm using times out. (don't know if that helps)
Again, this is while on full signal bar.
So, any tips? Am I using a bad baseband? Is there something I'm missing?
Thanks!

Backup, flash a different ROM, and see if it works properly. If it still doesn't, then try changing the baseband.
Did it work normally on the stock ROM?

I thought the older ones than .98 would have issues with KitKat?
Also, I have tried 4.3, and it seems to run fine (Although, I used a LTE Hybrid Baseband with it, I'll try using it instead of the regular .98)

Domestic Unlock Question

Hello Everyone,
I currently have a SPH-L720 that I performed the international sim-unlock on and currently use it in the UK. I plan to use it when I return to the states on Verizon, but am curious if I need to perform the Domestic Sim-unlock and change the LTE bands under the hidden dialer menu or should it work automatically since the phone is currently carrier unlocked and then only need to change the LTE bands? Thanks!

It doesn't support the Verizon LTE bands to begin with. Pretty sure you will never have 4G, if I'm wrong kindly point me to the info.

Would you mind linking that tutorial? As far as I know you can only change them to bands that are already supported by the device.

Hello.
The Nexus 4 never officially supported LTE. Some people discovered that there was partial support in the chipset and figured out how to enable it. However it only works on a limited frequency range and you have to know if the cell sites near you have the right frequency band. I never bothered figuring it out for myself as HSDPA+ is fast enough for me and I only have a small amount of monthly data to use anyway.
You need to use older versions of the baseband/modem as the most recent ones disabled the possible LTE modes. Whether older versions of the baseband are compatible with community ROMs based on 6.0 and up I don't know. I haven't seen any discussion for a while now. Phones with good supported LTE have been common for a long time and I suspect anyone who really needed LTE has moved on.
Band 4 LTE works just fine, problem is, I think Tmo in the US is the only carrier that supports it (thankfully I am in the US and on T-mo in that case). Any ROM with a Hybrid Modem will work. I am on latest 7.1.1_r4 Nitrogen OS and is works fine: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/development/rom-nitrogen-os-n-substratum-10-09-2016-t3459341
Make sure LTE shows as enabled: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/updated-zip-one-lte-enabler-flash-one-t2358931
Hi
Good news!, in latest 7.1.1_r4 Nitrogen OS, this ROM has build.prop modified by default with LTE option enabled in mobile network menu. But this ROM has modem device only for 3G, so i flashed this file and 4G LTE it's back again on band 4!

@Vertig0
SM-G975U1 and its firmware (XAA) will provide the best connectivity if you plan to regularly exchange SIMs.
Is it specific carrier-related features you're looking for?

So there a few caveats when running an unlocked Samsung handset on XAA firmware; you may or may not get specific features from your Carrier.
So if you use or value one carrier's feature set over the other than flash their firmware and convert your phone from SM-G975U1 to SM-G975U.
In exchange, you'll get the carrier bloat but it is can be disabled and some of it uninstalled.

XAA is the default software that ships with any unlocked USA-specific Samsung device.
You may or may not have access to VoLTE or WiFi Calling.
