[Q] Connectivity Issues? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys,
I've been using PureSpeedX (KitKat) 3.0.8 as my daily driver for a long time. I love its speed and stability, but there is one thing that really urks me, and that is the 3G/HDSPA connectivity!
I'm using the latest version of PSX available for the Mako, with baseband version :
M9615A-CEFWMAZM-2.0.1700.98
I'm also using the default kernel that comes with the rom.
Now, here's my issue:
I am with Wind Mobile in Canada.
I live in the Hamilton area, and the connectivity on this phone is always acting up.
or example, I'll have full bars, and once I try to open anything, 2/3 times it fails, and the third, it will finally go through.
When It is trying to connect, I see it sends ~ 110b then just goes to 0 while still in 3G mode, and this happens ~ 5 times before the app I'm using times out. (don't know if that helps)
Again, this is while on full signal bar.
So, any tips? Am I using a bad baseband? Is there something I'm missing?
Thanks!

Backup, flash a different ROM, and see if it works properly. If it still doesn't, then try changing the baseband.
Did it work normally on the stock ROM?

I thought the older ones than .98 would have issues with KitKat?
Also, I have tried 4.3, and it seems to run fine (Although, I used a LTE Hybrid Baseband with it, I'll try using it instead of the regular .98)

[Q] hero gsm + cm7 + maps 6.0 = sluggish hell?

my maps application is basically non functioning since upgrading to the 6.x versions. takes forever to load, locate position, some street names get visually distroted somehow, etc.
im running the latest cm7.1 and the latest maps app. i've cleared the data on the app, even gone so far as to clear the dalvik and reboot in hopes that it might have some effect. it hasn't.
i've decided to try to downgrade to cm6 to try out the updated maps app and it runs totally fine there.
what could the possible solution to this be?
fyi this is an example of the street name issue i am having. this isnt limited to street names either as some of the data layers seem to just render wonky.

Try a different rom possibly? Or just stick to the old maps? :/

I have the exact same problem here.
Sometimes I even have an orange colored square layer on top of the map.
Would love to have a way to downgrade the Maps version on this rom.
Here is a screenshot of what I described in my previous post.

rhapsody, i researched this pretty thoroughly on here. the general consensus is to downgrade to a non 6.x version of maps.
some suggest 5.5 is the version that worked best on the hero. 5.12 was the last version released before moving to 6.x. so yeah, just google "maps 5.5 apk" or whatever version you want and you'll find it.
the second part of this is that i have given up on ginger based roms. after doing a bunch of flashing back and forth between cm 6.1 and 7.1 and installing multiple different versions of maps, i concluded that all versions ran better on 6.1 and the whole interface was much snappier.
good luck
Yeah I also tested that lower version of GMaps works much better.
Thanks for your replies guys.
Now I'm wondering why all devs keep on including maps 6 in their roms ...
I also tried to revert back to a 2.1 rom with maps 6 but ended up with the same issues.
Will stick to CM 7.1 and try to downgrade Maps to V5.5.

com.android.phone crashes when I get a call

Whenever I get a call com.android.phone crashes and I am unable to answer phone calls, my signal drops and comes back after 5-10 seconds. People tell me they call me and it rings once then hangs up.
Any idea what I need to do to fix this issue?
I'm running cm10.1 rc5, Franco kernel, and modem. 33
Thanks!

clear the data for the phone app in your phones main settings, apps, all, phone.. then reboot.
if that doesnt fix things then wipe your dalvik and then run a fix_permissions.

have you tried reflashing your rom, or a different version of cm? have you tried to use a different gapps zip? have you tried to disable(then reenable) contacts sync in google sync settings?
Also I don't know if it's relevant but my battery shows phone calls are using 75% of my battery, on for 8h35mins of 10hrs, I only made one 5 min call today.

[Q] Can't make or receive phone calls

I thought I had performed all of the necessary checks before flashing Cyanogenmod on my Note 3, but it turns out it hasn't worked 100% as planned.
Everything is absolutely fine, bar the fact that I can't actually use it as a phone. I'm able to send and receive texts and also use data, but whenever I go to make a call, the call ends and if someone tries to call me, they hear ringing, but nothing makes it through to my Note.
I found this post reporting a similar issue. I'm locked into O2 in the UK, so I'm guessing it's something along those lines.
Is there anything I can do to resolve this or do I need to restore to a backup?
Use a CyanogenMod build from 3/27 or earlier and you will have calling back. It's a bug that is still not fixed as of today

Thank you. I'll give that a go just now.
Edit: That worked. Thanks for the heads up!

Same problem here
Have exactly the same problem with SM-N9005 on Cyanogenmod Nightly 28/03 onwards, and can't dirty flash back to 26/03 somehow, have to clean install 26/03 to make the phone working again. Super annoying...

I know that feel, bros, but on a stock based rom it works.

Guys, everytime I flashed an AOSP based Rom like Carbon on my hltexx, nobody can call me and I also can't call someone else. If I dial a number, the connection seems to break instantly but my mom told me, she got my calls but didn't hear anything. I'm also unable to change or view the access points.
Stock based Roms like Omega work correctly.
WTF am I doing wrong? :crying:

[Q] LG G2 - Radio, Baseband, GSM Reception, Signal

Very weak GSM signal and loosing network is a well know issue on G2 . Cloudy has got its Baseband, but this doesn't solve the problem. My gsm reception is so weak, I have to change my sim from G2 to old Blackberry several times a day to be able to receive & make calls.
His to solve this ?
Stock ROM is better with the reception but not much. I'm slightly worried with flashing stock radio/baseband on Cloudy's ROM.
Can someone advise how to combat this problem ?

Nothing development related here... This should be in Q&A.
I don't believe flashing the stock radios will be an issue... Cloudy is based on stock anyway.

Looking for help to pick a good KitKat rom

I used to do a lot of this back in my Bionic days, but I've just been stock for a few of years on my hltevzw Note 3. I've been happy with my stock 4.4.2 KitKat except that It's been eating the battery lately. The bloatware seems to be unhappy that I won't cave to Big Red, so it just runs up the CPU until the battery dies.
Anyhow, I bought a spare Note 3, unlocked the bootloader, and got TWRP going on it. It's on 4.4.2 right now (stock) and I'm ready to flash something bloat-free. I've read stories about GPS or MMS or modem not working with some roms and I can't have that. I just need a rom that will run like stock without the bloat. I use the pee out of GPS, I go through 35 gigs of data a month, I text instead of calling, and I still accept the occasional phone call.
What would be recommended for something like that?

Jasmine Rom 6.1 it is based on OF1 but works fine with the 4.4.2 bootloader (unlocked) and 4.4.2 modem. I run it with idlekernal or also with the reccomended leankernel. Very battery friendly.

I saw where people had talked about Jasmine. I'll take a look. I also heard about Jackyaway. But aren't some of the roms not good for VZW or Dev phones?
I installed the lk_hltevzw-v6.4.zip via TWRP an all seems to be the same as stock KitKat. How do I know that there is a change?

No changes to the phone according to the "about" screen. It must not be as easy as flashing a rom from TWRP.

According to what you posted, you only installed the lean kernel. You didn't install the rom itself. Read the link I posted, follow all the steps for dev edition. You don't need to flash the modem, nc4 modem works fine.
