Maxx 2 Not Charging in Car While In Use - Droid Maxx 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I brought my Maxx 2 to work last night to play around with it while I wait for the new screen to arrive in the mail. It was charged 100% when I got to work and I played Plants vs. Zombies Heroes on it for a couple of hours with it plugged into the charger (just a standard one, not a turbo). The battery drained down to 35% even while charging. I don't have this problem with my Razr at all. I watch movies all night long on it with it plugged in and the battery doesn't drop.
I thought about getting a turbo car charger but I am afraid it may drain my car's battery. I had problems a couple of years ago when I had my tablet plugged in with a regular charger and in about 45 minutes, it killed my car battery. I don't run my car unless it's freezing out, so it's off most of the night unless I have to patrol somewhere.
Anyone have any suggestions? Should I ask about this in the Moto X Play forum since it's the same phone and there's more activity there?

Are you using other chargers

I'm just curious if everyone is using the Turbo charger every day or are you using a slower charger at night to charge your phone. I don't think I would want the turbo charger on my phone every night. I'm planning on using my G2 charger with it on the night stand.
I just slow charge mine overnight. Have only used the OEM charger when I needed to quick charge during the day. In the car I have just added a turbo charger but have not needed to use it yet.
I use my turbo charger every night at about 8pm and pull it off at 100%. That gets me through 24hrs. The phone knows how much power to pull in so if I left it on overnight, I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
I just slow charge mine overnight as well with any one of the abundant HTC/Samsung/LG chargers I have around the house (or my PC).. I plug it in when I go to bed, unplug it when I wake up or before I leave for work.
If I'm going somewhere after work or just want to refill it when I get home, I'll use the Turbo charger. I went from 67% to 100% in about 20 minutes last night before I went to the movies. Usually a 20 minute charge would have taken me from 67% to maybe 75% on a normal charger.
quick charge at work when needed. Slow charge overnight.

Charging Issues; Need advice

Hello,
First off I want to preface this by saying I have my bootloader unlocked, rooted, running a 6.0.1 ROM.
This past weekend I noticed that my phone wasn't charging on a generic 4 port USB charger that I have. Made sure it had power, tried it on my tablet I had laying around, and eventually got it to charge using a different cable. No problem, stuff like that happens. Noticed it was "charging slowly" Hmm..wonder if the USB charger is going back. Tried it other places, but always getting EXTREMELY slow charges. Unfortunately I had my OEM charger at work at my desk so I couldn't try that but I have a QuickCharge 2.0 car charger that I tried. I plugged it in there and I was actually LOSING charge at what seems like a faster rate than just a normal drain. WTF!?
Got to my destination (going to my buddy's house) and tried a few of his chargers; same thing, "charging slowly". Made it through the weekend, got home and the problem is still going on with all my chargers.
So today, I get to work to try my OEM quickcharge and it drains my battery as well! Oh boy. This is bad.
Anyone else experience this? Since I've unlocked bootloader and no extended warranty AND the fact that Moto Support is god awful anyway, I'm screwed when it comes to professional help. Anyone have luck opening up this beast and fixing anything? Any help or guidance would be very much appreciated.
My phone isn't charging very well either. I went out to do some errands and phone was on 84% saying it'll be charged in 35 minutes I came home three hours later it's still on 84% with 35 minutes to go and burning up to touch. This is already my fourth Moto X in the week.

Fourth with issues? Hope it's not related to the same charger.

Not the same charger but all four different chargers the phone comes with. I ordered it on Amazon with next day arrival and the first two phones had dead pixels third one was reading 138 degrees with ampere while charging and would stop and fourth (current) refuses to charge past 84% unless I have the phone off I noticed. I unlocked the bootloader on this current one though so I don't think I'll be able to exchange it now

Question to OP: DId you ever find a resolution? I have recently noticed that my XT1575 (currently restored to stock 6.0 but still unlocked) actually LOSES charge while "charging" (as reported in Battery setting) in my Car (12vDC) and on my motorcycle (12vDC). Granted, I am running GMaps and streaming music running, among other apps... In fact, I just saw the charge drop from 74% to 68% in about 15 mins while driving this morning... On the other hand, when plugged into AC Turbo charger, I can run all those apps and then some, and charging, the battery charge goes up 1-2% per minute... Wondering if anyone else has seen similar issue when charging via DC current?

now that I think about it, its DC going into the phone regardless of the source, so the type current is not a factor... so assuming I don't have bad cables, what could be causing the difference?

Upon further research I just discovered and ordered a Qualcomm Quick Charge 2.0 capable car adapter... I'll bet the "standard" usb power the phone can draw from a cheap car adapter isn't sufficient to effectively charge on top of streaming, GPS mapping, Bluetooth stereo and screen on... Lets, see what the new 2.0 QC adapter can do next week....

I've noticed issues with the charging port. I have two brand new 25w turbo chargers and neither of them connect/charge my phone. I got an OEM USB cable and connected it to my old Droid Turbo charger and that is the only charger that works for me. Bummer. Was considering sending back the phone to moto, but I'm unlocked and have a feeling they would not repair/research it...

You can download an app called "Ampere" it will actually show you the charge and discharge rate that the phone is doing. Might help out in determining what is wrong.
For those experiencing issues with the device not charging to 100% when it is extremely hot, this is normal behavior. This is from Motorola...
Some facts on battery temperature
* Devices need their space; There are no on-board fans, cooling relies solely on the device being able to dissipate heat through the air. To help cooling, ensure the device is not in a pocket, purse, carrying case, or direct sunlight.
* Normal temperature is (97f) ~36c
* A user will begin to sense a “warm” device at 106f (~41c) and it will seem hot at 109f (~43c)
* Cool Down Mode kicks in at 152f (67c)
* Batteries with temps => 113f to 140f (45c to 60c) will not charge to 100% capacity
* Battery temps >140f (60c)will not charge at all

Doubts On Turbo Charging and Battery Life on the MOTO X FORCE

Hey Folks...
I had bought the Droid turbo 2.. or MOTO X Force as known in India 2 days back.
The first time I charged the Phone - Switched it off - Connected the turbocharger ( that comes along with the Device) it took me approximately 1.30 - 2 Hours to full charge it from 5% to 100% .. It did show turbo charging on the screen.
What was strange is next instance I plugged it in at 35% it took 1 hour and charged only up to 65%. This charging was done with the phone ON unlike the first charge where I had switched it OFF. It took about 2-3 hrs to full charge the device. Though it did show turbo charging when plugging in.
I felt this was strange. I again did a charge yesterday where it took 3 hrs to charge from 27% to 65% though it showed turbo charging.
In the night I switched the device off at 28% and plugged it in.. it was fully charged in probably 1-1.10 hrs max.
Am I to understand that the phone actually turbo charges only when switched off?
I have read in a couple of places that beyond 80% it charges at the normal rate. But I noticed this slow charge way before that Threshold.
Also I get a screen ontime of roughly 4.30 to 5.30 as of now.
also I noticed that last night when I went to sleep I had switched the WIFI off and Data, But I woke upto a 8% drop in the battery.
Could you guys share your thoughts and experience with the device.
This turbo charging issue is it the device or the Charger which is at fault here? I will need to replace if any of them are at fault.
Also what is the average SOT you guys get? and does your device hit temperatures of 45 deg C?
Do help out..
Thank you in Advance.
BUMP...
Mine will turbocharge regardless if it's on or off. Start with trying another charger since it's the cheaper option.

Brand new G4 Play Battery Issue

I bought a brand new unlocked Moto G4 Play from.Amazon Prime last week. Between purchasing it on Prime and the phone being old and OOP I got a great deal. However, I'm having a couple issues.
The first is with the battery. It charges insanely slow. Yesterday morning I had it plugged in for 3+ hours and it only charged 70%, from 15% to 85%. Also, for a battery rated at 2800mAH, it seems to drain fairly quick. Is it possible that the battery lost some of it's power while sitting around in the Amazon warehouse for so long?
My second issue is with file transfers onto my Mac. This is the third Android phone I've owned and it's the first to.cause my computer to freeze up when connecting it via USB. The charger that came with the phone is just one piece, I.e you can't disconnect the USB cable from the outlet plug. I had rummage around for a USB cable to use. It's an old cable, so I think that's what could be causing my.computer to.freeze. I'm gonna buy a new USB cable today and hopefully it fixes the problem.
Getting back to the battery, is there an app the can analyze my battery? So I can find out if it's defective or just not running at 100%? Any other suggestions on what I can do to remedy this problem would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Adam
As far as apps go you can check the Play Store, and go by rating to see what is best for you. I use this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fsinib.batterymonitor
Charging with the stock charger will take hours. It's only rated at like 527 mamps (or whatever it's called), but it will never charge fast. I use a 2 amp quick charger, and from around 20% to 100% it takes just about an hour.
The drain may be because it's new, and getting settled in, so it should get better after a bit of time. Plus it does take a couple charge cycles to reach its full charging potential. I get an easy 5 1/2 to 6 hours screen on time on a full charge.
Now for using a computer I don't have experience with Macs, but I have heard issues with Android and Macs not playing well together. Maybe newer/better cable will help.
I've used 3C Battery Monitor Widget.
Like said above, the charger that comes with it is very low power, you can charge faster with a 1 - 2 amp charger and it won't hurt anything since there is built-in circuitry in the phone to control charging.
When I first got my G4 Play, I charged it up and let it sit unused for about 2 weeks only checking the battery remaining periodically and it still had ~15% left after 2 weeks on standby.
If your battery doesn't get better, you may want to exchange the phone with Amazon before your return is up.
G4 Play XT1607 Battery Drain
I'd like to revive this post real quick. @adam79 did you get your issue figured out?
I bought a phone from eBay. Ok, a bunch of them. I'm buying broken, fixing, and selling. I have hovered around G4 Plays as that is what I learned with and am slightly comfortable with. This new issue has got me stumped though.
Moto G4 Play - listing stated 'will not power on or charge'. No problem, I have extra parts. I tried to plug it in and sure 'nuff, no power. Tried another battery and she fired right up with Marshmallow already reset. I replaced the charging board and it started charging but it was hot. Hotter than normal I thought. Said that it would take 3 hours to fully charge from 71%. Whatever. She wanted the update to 7.1.1 just like the two xt1609s, the other two xt1607s, and my recent xt1601. I let it update then turned it off. Battery was dead the next morning. Plugged it up and no charging animation appeared. Another battery and it fired up. The heat is coming from the metal plate just above the battery contacts. Drains the battery no matter if it's on or off. What could it be?
Info: XT1607 7.1.1 Nougat
Baseband: M8916_20250112.18.05.45.01R harpia_na_cust
Kernal: 3.10.49-g87b323e [email protected] #1
Build: NPIS26.48-43-2
Thanks in advance for any and all help.
