Cricket users reported that they received updates, maybe because cricket works on at&t towers..
If you are in US u can take ur mobile to best buy and get it updated.. odin is not possible as of now as at&t didn't release any firmware...
I got the phone unlocked and took it with me to india but i was not receiving any updates.. luckily my sister has come to india.. i borrowed her at&t sim and got the update as soon as i put the sim

My s6 hasnt had a sim in it for like a month and just got a new update the other night from att

I have 2 S7 and 2 S7 edge phones in the house.
All are AT&T phone on Cricket Wireless.
None of them have ever been able to pull an update and I have not been able to find a way to get them to update.
AT&T store near me does not want to help due to me not having AT&T service and my "local" best buy is about an hour away.

Can you show me where cricket users have received an update on the S7?

I'm using cricket and I always get the update.

Some cricket users did get updates.. so maybe it is associated with towers common to at&t and cricket

I have a s7 edge in mexico, using iusacell (now belongs to att) and cant get the update. Im in february update. I tried a att sim, but its not in service anymore and didnt gave the update

I am sorry but I doubt you actually got one of the updates from Cricket as no one else I know can pull them without an AT&T sim.

AT&T owns Cricket, every tower that Cricket uses is an AT&T tower.

Converting Sprint S4 to ATT

I get my wife a used S4 today that was previously on the Sprint network. We are on ATT and i planned on rooting the phone any ways. What all do i need to change to get rid of the sprint phone number that is on the phone, and what do i need to flash to make it work with the att network?
Don't believe it's possible. ..Sprint is CDMA and dont use SIM cards ATT uses GSM and SIM cards

it has a sim card slot on the phone. They said it was unlocked and would work with all carriers. When i put the sim card in, it says Invalid SIM card

Because its for international SIM cards. Your Sprint S4 WILL NOT WORK on any US carrier other than Sprint.

I can confirm this. I work as a Sprint wireless consultant. A sim unlocked phone from Sprint is not compatible with any domestic carriers.

I'm sorry to have to disagree with this but I own a blackberry 9630 world phone from sprint and the sim slot works both with at&t as well as tmo. I understand ad long as contract is fulfilled and any etf's are paid Sprint will unlock sim slot and it will work with any carrier, gsm and CDMA alike. Check Sprint forums and speak with cs agents... :good:

Try using an Att/T-Mobile sim on an s4. It will be blocked even if the phone has been unlocked. Previous phones from sprint did not block USA native gsm but as of lately they do.
My good ol htc touch pro was a lucky one to work on USA gsm as of course your old black Berry.
You get it now? Its an accepted fact sprint has been going out of their way to block USA native gsm access on their latest phones. Perhaps some new ones aren't but the s4 is unless a work around is done but it doesn't work for everyone.

HTC One
This isn't entirely true. I unlocked my Sprint HTC One to run on aio wireless which is on the ATT network. I haven't unlocked my Galaxy S4 but I intend on giving it a shot.
Call sprint and ask for a subsidy unlock code.
You'll need to provide the IMEI
*#06# on the keypad. After they give you the code, try a gsm sim. Hope this helps.

Or buy an unlock code from Amazon or ebay if they wont give it to you ofcourse

thinking of doing the same with my s4 on sprint and going to aio. Been with sprint over a decade and finally over it. In houston and lte sucks.
wow that sucks, because even Verizon who is the greediest of them all will let you use their phone on both AT&T and T-Mobile. I have the AT&T Galaxy S4 and I can use my phone on T Mobile as well.

I think I've read about people unlocking for use on metro pcs which is tmobile. Thanks for heads up though, probably gonna have to buy one when I switch.
I unlocked a Sprint s4 and I am able to make calls with a AT&T micro sim in but cannot get data and texts working. I had to downgrade the baseband to get into hidden menu, but I stopped there. In the hidden menu you have to make some changes but I was scared that if I got it to work on at&t I wouldnt be able to get it back working on Sprint. Everyone does say that Sprint doesnt allow anyone to use other domestic carriers.

I just got rid of my AT&T edge and got a tmobile one, I wasnt about to go to best buy and get updates all the time like I was told by samsung
You need an AT&T sim it doesn't have to be activated. Im using mine on cricket and got my latest OTA by putting my deactivated AT&T sim and using my wifi to download. I did have to check twice and reboot once to trigger the update. If you change the time in settings up a day you don't have to wait 24hrs to recheck for update.

I have an unlocked AT&T S7 Edge and use it both on Rogers and AT&T, I simply change the SIM depending on where I am. The updates still come from AT&T regardless of where I check for them.

Fair enough.
You still get your updates when you have the AT&T sim in the phone.
I do not have AT&T service at all and am totally unable to get any updates.

I have been unable to get even one update on 4 phones with a Cricket Wireless SIM in.
I dont understand it, AT&T Owns Cricket, you would think it should work without any issues.
I have a very interesting question regarding on using tee AT&T variant of this phone on the T-Mobile network. As you may have noticed, AT&T is finally offering Wi-Fi Calling on their network, and this phone is compatible. My question is:
Does the T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling work on the AT&T variant of this phone?
Does the AT&T Wi-Fi calling work on the T-Mobile variant of this phone?
If you flash the U firmware, you'll get wifi calling, VoLTE, and OTA updates. There is a thread in one of the other AT&T forums that has instructions.

You could also go another route and flash the t-mobile firmware on the at&t variant, it works quite well and is the equivalent of the U firmware with t-mobile account management, voice mail, and features.
I have s7edge at&t ..it don't have any volte option
I want to enable volte option. On my mobile
If i flash sm-935U on my at&t will it activate VOLTE OPTION
If you switched to TMobile just ODIN the Tmobile Firmware and you will get the updates OTA.
how do i flash the tmboile firmware to my at&t s7 edge.. i have a att s7 edge and want to flash tmobile firmware to it and use on tmobile with wifi calling and the works.....any links with instructions and firmware. thanks

Yeah you do, its under Connections/Mobile Networks/Mobile Data its called Enhanced LTE services....I actually shut mine off and its saving quite a bit of battery it seems and I havent even noticed a difference in phone call quality, seems kind of useless
you need to get or buy a Gophone simcard or buy a gophone (comes with Gophone simcard), just activate the gophone simcard, you dont need to pay money on it. i never able to get att software update using Cricket simcard but when i put a activated gophone simcard (no need to pay money on it), it lets me update to the latest att firmware ! funny, how gophone and cricket are owned by parent company att but gophone lets me update and cricket can NOT.

Question Running A Tmobile ROM with MetroPCS

After 15 years I decided to leave Sprint. I just got tired of their BS charges on my bills. I have a S7 Edge SM-G935P that is factory unlocked and de-branded from Sprint software. Right now I'm currently running Sprints Nougat Beta Program Beta 5 (PLN) and I'm on Metro PCS with T-Mobiles APN settings. I been with Metro PCS for a 3 weeks so far. I have decent signal in the Chicago area, When I'm home I get between -110db to -99db and when I'm outside I get between -105db to -82db depending where I'm at in the city. I hoping soon band 12 becomes active in Chicago that will make the signal better.
1. When Noguat comes out can I flash SM-G935T ROM or should I flash a SM-G935U ROM with T-Mobile Modem?
2. Would T-Mobile's carrier agression help my signal out better with my phone since MetroPCS runs on T-Mobiles network?
You can in fact go to the t-mobile firmware and sit there permanently on the device and it will work fine, and I'd recommend it, I don't have any other answers but I've played with firmware jumping a lot on this device.

If the phone is unbranded and unlocked it is already running the U software so all you have to do is just flash the tmobile modem for metro pcs and your good to go!
If its not running the U software just flash the U software and tmobile modem but if its factory unlocked it should already be U phone SM-G935U. Speakin gof that Im running U software on Crickett which is ATT maybe I should flash the ATT modem

It runs very well anyway and I've just had a certain experience with their firmware that I haven't had with the unlocked, Verizon, AT&T, or sprint firmwares. That and wifi calling and other tmobile features can be unlocked by flashing the tmobile firmware.

I was given a phone that has no brand logo on it and it had an authentication error #9 [modified] on start up. It is an LG phone and that is the only logo on it anywhere. The info under the battery and everything is gone so I had no idea what type of LG it was. I put it in download mode and LG Bridge recognized it as an LG MS330 so I flashed it with the Metro PCS firmware for an LG K7 and now it works great but I was wondering: If I had flashed it with the T-Mobile firmware would it still have shown the Metro PCS Logo and have metro as the carrier or would it have T-Mobile as the carrier?

Ordered direct from Samsung and received a Sm-G955U?

I pre-ordered my S8+ for AT&T (which should be SM-G955A) with the Fully Immersive Bundle directly from Samsung and received everything yesterday. The phone is actually a SM-G955U with the AT&T firmware. I'm wondering if someone with an S8+ bought from the AT&T store could check their phone and report their model info back. If and when the unlocked version comes out I'm thinking I could Odin that ones firmware onto this phone how we did the S7 Edge and loose all the AT&T bloatware and have an unlocked version.
I'm not a 100% sure, however, I think all (if not most) of the US models are the SM-G955U variant.
Again, not 100% sure but pretty certain that's the case.
I ended up purchasing an international model because I hate US carriers and what they do to these beautiful devices -> so I wouldn't be able to double check for you.

Completely understand that. Not looking to unlock the bootloader at all. More interested in having a de-bloated phone. I know I can disable and/or hide these apps but they still waste storage space.

There's a couple threads on this over in the regular s8 section. All US phones are U models flashed with carriers firmware. The BL are locked and the word on the street is that the phone locks to the sim carrier it's first booted on, if this is true I'm not sure. I received mine today and haven't even booted it up yet. Doing some research first and my S7E is running like a champ rooted so I figured why rush. I pretty much turned my s7e into a s8 anyways lol

No they don't, none of the US snapdragon phones have an unlocked bootloader.
I'm on AT&T, same model number
I am a developer for a package disabler and looking at the stats, I can confirm that Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T all show SM-G955U as device model.
They just moved the carrier letters to the end it doesn't mean all the carriers are the same models just because last year the U after the number meant the unlocked version. For this year you need the XAA to have the sim unlocked 4 carrier version.

Sprint

AT&T

i believe you are incorrect.. my device does not say anywhere on it that it is a verizon device outside of course of the vzw bloat..
the only thing that differentiates the different carriers in all of the firmwares available is the user data partition, other than that they all appear identical with the same model number and build numbers
---------- Post added at 08:11 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:09 PM ----------
also to add, you dont need the unlocked variant to have it unlocked.. vzw is unlocked by default and other carriers can also unlock it if all requirements are met of course

the only thing that differentiates the different carriers in all of the firmwares available is the user data partition, other than that they all appear identical with the same model number and build numbers

also to add, you dont need the unlocked variant to have it unlocked.. vzw is unlocked by default and other carriers can also unlock it if all requirements are met of course

lol.... he clearly said unlocked versions have a LOCKED bootloader

Wake me up when someone successfully transforms a Sprint to a T-Mobile or an AT&T to a Verizon. Its a great theory you guys have but its a big $$$ risk to have to hope it happens.

Aside from the bloat each carrier has you can easily see what phone you have in less than 30 seconds.

Let me know when you flash that vzn model to a tmb model.

lmao your picture confirms its the exact same model bro that my vzw variant and every other carrier device shows..
i am telling you, the only difference is the user data partition.. THE MODEL IS THE EXACT SAME ON EVERY US VARIANT.. how is that hard to understand when you yourself just proved it lmao

Any Luck Activating Unlocked Flashed S20U5G on VZW?

I've been trying since Saturday but the network doesn't recognize the device, can't get them to whitelist the imei and they're saying my 988U1 is not compatible, it was a Sprint 988U to start
I bought the unlocked version from Samsung, did a Sim swap and everything works fine. You'll have to give Sprint a call, they like to lock IMEIs even after full device payment
Why didn't you just return it? Phone isn't even 14 days old... Carriers will not unlock a device for a couple months usually to "deter" theft.
I had no issues activating on Vz after flashing carrier firmware on my unlocked device. I didn't try it when it was unlocked so can't say on that. Why not flash it to the Vz firmware? There's a thread on it if you search for it.

Why would OP call Sprint when it's an unlocked device he's trying to get working on Vz?
will flashing u1 on att s20 ultra make it usable on verizon
Who did you get the phone from?
If it's Verizon then surely they should help

OP said it was a Sprint 988U from the start, so either he's talking about software or device being from Sprint carrier. Assuming it's Sprint device since many people have had issues pertaining to locked devices from Sprint
If you activated it with sprint, how long would you have to use the device before they allowed you to unlock it,? EE UK usually makes it easy 6-9 money's depending on the handset but I think the Vs with Verizon and sprint is a little more competitive.
