Sudden issues with wifi + LTE, MHC19Q (Solved) - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Edit 5: Gonna go ahead and declared this solved, the problem hasn't come back since I factory reset and reflashed MHC19I (not Q) from scratch. No more issues with wifi not autoconnecting or taking excessively long to connect, no more battery drain (got nearly 48 hours this weekend including a good amount of time spent in a poor/oversaturated service area at the Grand Prix), etc. Probably going to wait until the May update before flashing any OTAs.
Edit 4: Two days later and still seems to be working fine. I'm seeing some other issues on the April update (significant battery drain, slow wifi connect, etc.), so this morning I tried rolling back first to January (wouldn't get LTE) and now to March (fine so far). With the exception of keeping my media, I'm setting this up completely new, i.e. redownloading everything from the Play Store, to avoid any weirdness from restoring backups.
Edit 3: A factory reset done via TWRP (which retained my media) seems to have solved it for now. At any rate it's been acting normal longer than anything I've done before. This includes restoring my apps + their data via TitaniumBackup (but not system backups), reflashing SuperSU and otherwise getting my phone back to where it started. I've tested things that were known to cause it before like having wifi active but leaving my signal area and having it revert to cell data. The only issue I've noticed now is that wifi no longer seems to autoconnect when it's in range of my router. Not a huge deal but kind of annoying, if anyone has a fix for this I'd appreciate that too.
Edit 2: This issue is NOT resolved. The problem came back after working for a little while. Once the LTE fails the wifi will never reconnect on its own. It seems like everything still works except loading images from anything (reddit, instagram, etc.) and loading bookmarks. I can make google searches, download apps, go into reddit comments, go to instagram profiles I've never been to before, and so on. Is my device defective?
Edit: It appears that going through the motions of flashing the latest update (save for recovery.img and formatting userdata) has fixed the issue. This includes reverting to the stock kernel and flashing the vendor.img, which I hadn't done before. Wifi can be flipped off and on and will reconnect and there are no "!"s anywhere in sight. Strange considering I essentially went through the whole process minus the stock kernel and vendor.img, just out of order, with no effect.
Can anyone offer insight as to what piece of that process might have fixed this? It's not clear to me which pieces of the update are responsible for wifi and cellular connectivity besides the radio and kernel. Leaving the original post below in case anyone has anything to add or is going through this same issue. I'll update this post if the issue returns.
---
As of just this afternoon I'm suddenly getting a strange new issue that I can reproduce pretty consistently. I first noticed that my wifi signal was claiming to be connected but with no internet, and showed a little exclamation point next to it. I disabled wifi, and noticed the exclamation point jumped over to LTE. In both cases, I can still essentially use the connection. I disabled cellular data with wifi connected and could still browse the web, and likewise if I disabled wifi and the exclamation point was back on the LTE symbol. However, I notice some apps like Instagram will refresh posts but no longer load images, and reddit will load posts but not follow any links or load any images either.
Things I've tried:
-Flashed the 2.50 radio (down from 3.61)
-Flashed the MHC19Q system.img and cache.img
-Installed ElementalX kernel (at first it looked like it fixed the LTE issues, but really it just made the "!" go away; still seeing the same issues when I connect to wifi and then disconnect)
-Deleted and readded the nxtgenphone APN (I'm on AT&T)
-Tried to get into *#*#4636*#*#; I get "Connection problem or invalid MMI code."
-Cleared cache/dalvik in recovery (hey, you never know)
-Rebooted my router to make sure it's not an issue there; all other wireless devices on my router are fine
-Removed and reseated the SIM card
In all cases I can still send and receive texts and certain apps will continue to function about halfway, such as Instagram mentioned above. Switching airplane mode on and off doesn't help. Furthermore, once the wifi connection first gets the "!", it will no longer automatically reconnect as it doesn't find a working internet connection.
After an initial reboot it will appear to be fine; wifi connects automatically, no "!"s anywhere in sight, and everything seems to work. As soon as I disconnect from wifi, this issue starts. As mentioned, it will no longer reconnect to wifi and cellular data doesn't seem to work.
Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions as to what the issue may be? This started out of the blue this afternoon, I haven't made any changes to my phone since flashing the April image. My bootloader is unlocked and I'm rooted, and save for the ElementalX experiment (going to go back to the stock kernel) everything else is stock.
Any help is appreciated. If you need any more info, let me know.

Did your problem get resolved or did it come back. I'm having a number of problems on t-mobile since upgradingj to mhc19q

So far so good, the issue hasn't returned, although I'm really not liking the latest update. I'm considering rolling back (is that something I can do? I don't see why I couldn't) to January or so.

I'm still in limbo. T-mobile have been helpful but it's in Google Nexus support's hands and they have been less than responsive to say the least.
Next step is likely replacement device but in the mean time I just finished flashing 19i and will see if that has the same issues, then I'll try the previous build.
I'm kicking myself that I didn't check the version numbers I was on before applying April update. Ah well, lesson learned,

Out of curiosity are you doing a full wipe before flashing different builds? I noticed in my case the issue didn't go away until I did a factory reset, which I think suggests something was corrupt or otherwise affected in the system partition. Since doing a factory reset (and now after doing a couple more) the issue seems to have gone away and I'm no longer having wifi/LTE issues - well, except for not getting LTE at all on the January update, so now I'm back on MHC19i.

Current status: My issue appears to be with t-mobile band 12, the new band that t-mobile is rolling out now.
It appears that the phone "prefers" band 12 to the older bands (like 4).
Rolling back to an image before band 12 was added (eg MDB08K from October) gives me back reliable LTE on band 4.
Sent logs to t-mobile and Google and waiting.

Leaked 2.2 Data Connectivity Issues

I like many followed the instructions on the Leaked 2.2 to install Froyo.
I performing the rooted instructions requiring me to upgrade to Baseband version and verify that it's 2.05.00.06.11. This went fine and I successfully installed 2.2.
I noticed that I was having real connectivity issues. My bars would drop and connection would seem to cease. I often went from 3g to 1x connectivity and my apps could not connect without a reboot.
I reverted back to 2.1 but it kept the same baseband version 2.05.00.06.11.
I am still having the same connectivity issues.
So far I have seen people suggest dialing *288 to update the towers but that didnt work.
Other say toggling airplane mode fixed it for them. This is not a consistent fix for me.
Please add information here so we can try and find a fix.
I updated mine to the leaked 2.2 yesterday and I did lose my 3G for a few hours. I started to troubleshoot afterwards and toggling airplane mode would restore my 3g connectivity. I haven't noticed anything else that is troublesome so far, however, I am also missing some apps in the market.

There is a fix for the market problem -
I am trying to keep this thread about the connectivity issues. I suspect the firmware update did something bad. I am not running any roms or updates.
I'll have to try toggling airplane mode, I haven't tried that.
Yeah, I'm having issues too, also video recording has stopped working.
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Not real sure if this is the same problem or not, but i'll post it here and we'll see. My phone seemed to have ZERO issues yesterday after the move to 2.2. Everything was working great (related to connections)
This morning, my alarm (on the phone) went off at 6:15am and I swiped it and got up, went and took a shower. While I was coming out I heard "Droid..." and was like, well that sux, a random reboot. A couple minutes later I came over to it and it was on the lock screen and the screen was dim like it was about to turn back off. I touched it to swipe and it was locked up and rebooted a second or so later.
Each time it came up, I had an X next to my signal meter and no WIFI or Data indicators. The process "system" kept dying and eventually causing the phone to reboot. I tried going into airplane mode / coming back out, but nothing.
As a last resort (so I could go to work) was to shut it down gracefully (reboots wouldn't let me get to hboot). And go and do a nandroid of the current setup and restore to yesterday right after I switched to 2.2.
After the nandroid finished I went ahead and rebooted it w/o a restore. This time the phone booted normally, no FC's and it's been running since then w/o any connection/reboot issues.
Obviously I'll be paying attention to this. It is actually nice having the "Droid..." so I know when it reboots

I havent had issue with the system process dying and rebooting. Just the incredibly annoying fluctuations in the bars and connectivity.
I would go to use my gTalk or gMail and it would say no internet connection. Or if you open the browser. Same thing.

No data
I updated the radio as well as the leaked 2.2 ROM. I now can't get any data. It will say there is a 3G connection but the market, Gmail, browser won't work. I was previously able to get data I haven't changed anything since.
I thought my data issue was using the Hybrid Altell/VZW prl, but after a *228 option 2 I am still having an issue. It seems to be when I shutdown the phone, turn it back on, the mobile data connection will not turn on. Toggling airplane mode will fix it, or sometimes a reboot fixes it.
Also having 3g/1x/no data issues post update to 2.2
Upgraded 8PM last night, all good until about 10am this morning, realized none of my apps were sync'd, then tried to use Opera/Market/Etc. all saying connectivity issues. The airplane mode on/off seems to fix it, wondering if its a select few and we should reflash or people are experiencing this across the board...

I had nearly the exact same thing happen to me. Flashed last night and then noticed the problem early today. A reboot of my phone fixed things; I'll continue to watch things closely.
Just got this for the first time as well.
I was just doing some configuration and needed to reboot - after doing so I did not have 3G and mobile network was ON in the settings.
Toggled to airplane mode and restarded - switched back after startup and 3G is back... but still this is troubling (I don't want there to be ANY problems haha)
All my Issues fixed with link @ bottom, thanks adrynalyne!

I am trying SkyRaiders rom to see if theres any improvements. I am on WiFi and its been working good so far. I will know more tomorrow.
Are you just getting the slow downs/disconnects on cell or also on WiFi? I had some weird WiFi issues last night so I thought it was both. Are you all getting it on all data connections or just the mobile network?
Make sure System Select in Mobile Network settings is on Home Only. I did this and I've had zero data connectivity issues with the leak. Had them when it was on Automatic.
Try it out.
I will join in and say I am also loosing 3G...it would be fine for a little then disappear for a while...toggling wifi and airplane mode helps, but I want it fixed and not have to rely on those.
Seems that Sky Raiders Rom has fixed the issues for me.

Which version? I am using 2.00 and I am having 3G connectivity issues. When I set my mobile networks from automatic to home, I only connect at 1X instead of 3G.
Is this fixed in Sky Raider 2.01?
UPDATE: I should have stated my original problem which was my 3G data connection was shutting down at random and the only way to get it back was to go in and out of airplane mode. I also JUST NOW updated to Sky Raider 2.01 and see that I don't have and data connection at present. A reboot did not work either. I'll keep trying things...
UPDATE2: Got it working...for some reason it was turned off in settings. Appears to be working fine now. I haven't seen any disconnects yet. Fingers crossed...
UPDATE3: It started doing it again under Sky Raider version 2.01. Don't know whether it's the new v2 radio or something with Froyo...

It is beginning to look like maybe this is a radio (2.05.00.06.11) problem an not a OS issue. But what I don't understand is why more people have not complained. I do live in a fringe signal area for 3G, perhaps that has something to do with triggering this problem. But I too have found that toggling airplane mode isn't a consistent fix.
If this is indeed a radio issue, then we may have to just live with it until a new radio version is released. Perhaps it would help if more people came forward and shared their experiences about this alleged problem. If it is only a few of us, then what might we have in common???

See here, 99% sure has to do with WiFi. I've been turning off WiFi before I leave the WiFi area I'm connected to and I've yet to loose data connectivity.
If this is all there is, I have a fully working 2.2 on my DInc now...don't really see a reason to upgrade to the official!

[Q] Data Connection shutting off on Xoom?

I've had my Xoom since the beginning of March and this is the first time I've had this issue.
Earlier today my 3G wasn't working. I go to my settings and try to turn off the mobile network and then turn it back on. That didn't work, so I restarted the tablet. Connects to 3G no problem.
I come back from lunch and the same thing happens. I go to the settings and try to turn off and back on the mobile network. No dice. Reboot, 3G is back.
What gives? Anyone having this problem? Running 3.1 not rooted.
Well, this is an old thread - but I was doing my due diligence by searching before posting a question and this is the closest I could find. In fact, it exactly describes my recent troubles. I had to power cycle my Xoom 4 times yesterday to restore data. Turning data off and back on didn't restore data. Only a power cycle resolves it, for a while...
I live in a 3G only area. I just got my Xoom back from Moto service, after it got stuck in the Honeycomb boot screen animation for the 4th time in 6 months. Since getting it back, I've had these data connection issues. It's strictly stock OS, by the way. Android version 3.2.6 and build HLK75H
If it did it daily, I'd say it's a tablet issue. But yesterday was full of reboots and today it's been fine all day. Sound like a known issue or perhaps just a Verizon data problem?
thanks all!
Well I had something similar but reboots didn't fix it. Sent mine in for the LTE upgrade and returned with signals barely 50% and not staying connected, in either LTE/cdma or cdma modes. I took mine to work and inspected under a scope and saw cold solder joints on all the antenna connectors for the center pin. Reflowed them all and signal strength back up and not dropping data. Not sure if this would apply to you.
Thanks, Tiger. I think my Xoom issue is different since, when I DO have data connection, the signal strength is fine. And reboots restore my connection.
I have discovered that I can force this to happen by leaving an area with wifi coverage. My Xoom now consistently won't transfer from wifi to 3G. As an experiment, I turned off wifi today and it's been fine all day - running only 3G. But, if I have wifi on the transition from wifi to mobile seems to choke it.
data issues too
Mine used to be just fine. After the 4g upgrade I am now having these same disconnect issues as well. Should have never let it out of my hands... I am thinking it is time to root and rom and hope it is a software issue.

Well what your describing sounds more like an app causing the problem. One of ur apps is holding onto the radio (wifi or cell) and is not letting go so the tab can switch properly. Since you sent it in for repair I would assume you made backup before it went in and you just restored it all. Which if the cause is not an app, then one of the system apps restored data conflicts with what's in there now.
If you used titanium backup I would perform a full back up, wipe your tab back to default state. At this point just give your tab a dry run (just skip sign in and adding accounts so google doesnt restore your apps) and use wifi/cell, browse web, for while to see if problem continues. If not then restore "missing apps and data". Not full restore. This way it only restores what's missing (which of course won't be the system apps/data). After this then things I would only restore in system apps would be browser favorites.

Signal Issue

http://imgur.com/OXM5Xii
Is this a signal issue? I had MMS issues from before. I decided to do a factory data reset. Then this signal/wifi combo on the top right showed up in the photo listed on imgur. Or is this a bug? My wifi has been bad recently to add to it. No download booster or dev settings for aggressive handoff either. Any help is appreciated, thanks.
I noticed this on the first day I had my device (Wifi and LTE active at same time). Thereafter it went away. It may be that, on initial boot (or after factory reset), phone is communicating with network to send device info and status (IMEI, etc) to TMo. Once that's done, the simultaneous icons stop. Just a theory.
It comes and goes for me. I did two resets because of a phone dialer issue after using package disable pro.
you might want to chill on that PDP for now, until you get things sorted.
I've also seen the LTE icon pop-up on occasion while on WiFi. It seems to happen when the phone has been sitting awhile and I turn the screen on.

Sudden and major connectivity issues on N6P

I have a Nexus 6P: stock, rooted with ElementalX v1.18 and Xposed; I'm on the latest August security update. Recently and out of the blue I've been suffering from major connectivity issues:
- A few minutes after boot, both the mobile network (3G and LTE) and wifi become nearly dead, exclamation marks on both.
- Apps like WhatsApp and YouTube work fine; Chrome, Instagram and most other apps dependent on the internet don't.
- A restart makes the net work again but just for a few minutes.
Any ideas what's going on? I really need your help!
So clearing app cache via Clean Master restores connectivity oddly, but soon enough it goes off and I need to repeat..any clues on what the problem could be?
Did You ever get this figured out boeder9?
My 6P started getting awful connectivity rates a week or so ago. Calls, email, text seem ok. It's set up the same as another that we have and mine can't even pull up a webpage anymore. Updates are coming in kbs now.
Think it's down to a hardware failure since I have another in the same environment to compare it to.
Sorry..might be late..this was due to two ad blocking modules on Xposed. I disabled them and the connectivity was restored.

This was a while back, believe I should have put my findings up here also. I wasn't using Xposed anymore since my M8. I've always used AdAway since being on Android starting with a HTC One-X. It was my Asus OnHub wifi acting up. For some reason it did not like my phone or me ?? and when I reset it I started getting 700 - high 800 Mbps through my wifi consistently when at home again. Has not happened again, could have been the firmware at the time.

After upgrade, wifi connects, but all apps show off-line

After upgrading my phone from rooted stock 7.0 to 8.1 using this TWRP flashable stock image, it worked 100%. Not a single glitch. I did a dirty install and all of my apps and settings were exactly as before. I was so thrilled that I talked my father into doing the update (I coached him over the phone) in the same exact process I undertook.
Everything seemed to go perfectly, however, on his phone (which was configured exactly as mine was) the wifi doesn't allow data to transfer.
He is able to connect to his router/AP, and it pulls an IP/DNS from the router. I see his phone in the list of devices connected. Signal strength is perfect. There are no device restrictions on the router. Other wireless devices are able to use the web through the router w/o any issue.
Yet, any he opens says it's offline or fails to connect to the web. As soon as he turns off wifi and moves to LTE (T-Mobile), everything works.
It's almost as though there is some global setting that is acting like an out-bound firewall preventing the wifi from accessing the internet.
I've posted a request for help at the thread where I downloaded the rom, but have not had any replies. I'm hoping to reach a broader audience here, just in case this is not rom-specific problem.
This is a bug in the upgrade and is not fixed even in latest update. It is already being discussed in moto forums. Follow up the discussion here,
thank you for posting that link. I just read a number of the most recent pages, and I'm wondering if this really is the same problem. In my case the Wi-Fi is solidly connected. There are no disconnects and the signal strength is 100%. The problem is that the apps do not recognize an internet connection. I haven't found anyone over at the Lenovo forums mention similar symptoms. Only that they are having issues with Wi-Fi dropouts. What is even more confounding, is the fact that my phone had zero issues, and his phone has this bug. All things being equal, you would think that the problem would be on both phones. Or on neither.
Try this, reboot into recovery, wipe cache and reboot. This usually fixes most problems after a major system update. If not, try a full system wipe. You'll have sign in again and set up everything again. That should work as a last resort.
Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk
Thanks for the recommendation. because the phone is 700 miles away, in my senior Father's hands. I'll have to walk him through that. But after doing the upgrade, we did do the wipe cache as part of the update. I'll try it again, but I am not optimistic. As a last resort, we will do a wipe, but I'm trying to avoid that at all costs because I know how challenging it is for him to set everything back up.and years gone by, I recall being able to fix permissions from the recovery. But now when I look under TWRP I see only fix contents, with a strong warning that it may cause bootlooping. So that's the last thing I want to do.
Well, I'm a bit embarrassed to admit clearing the dalvik cache/cache fixed the problem. We absolutely ran that routine immediately after applying the update, but apparently it did not do what it was supposed to do. I suppose that's because we wiped before booting for the first time? Either way, I had him do a nandroid full backup, and then using the advanced/wipe/(dalvik & cache), it worked. He is thrilled - an me, even more so as it means I don't have to hold his hand to get his phone set up from scratch.
