the write speed on that card will be really slow 10MB/s maybe, you need a U3 card if you want fast writes as well as reads.
TBH i have put bog standard class 10 cards in my kids second gen Moto Gs as adopted storage and they've not moaned about the phones going slow at all.

What do you mean with to slow? You mean its not suited to use as internal memory or just slow when browsing your sdcard files?
Marshmallow tells you if it is too slow or not when you use adopted storage, i have seen the same message for U3 cards though so i personally just ignore it and crack on.

Problem might not be the card but the phone memory controller itself could be a bit slow

Hi, sorry if this is a double post. I did look around but could not find much info.
I'm interested to know how well the new 16GB MicroSD cards work on the Xperia. Anyone using one of these? My main concern is that they all seem to only be class 2 atm. Is this too slow to run apps and my videos stored on it etc?
Should I wait till a class 4 16GB card comes out?

i don't think it matters in a phone.
I ordered the eact same Mobile Ultra card today. Should be here saturday, so I will tell when I get it. But assuming it's Class 6 card, it should be fast. I wouldn't go with Class 2, since it's slow. But as Jabe says, it might not matter on the phone.
So as at now no one's using a 16GB yet?
Give me a week or 2. I'm planning on ordering the Sandisk one.
Sandisk Mobile Ultra is good, and it's what I am using for X1. Since it's class 6, the read/write speed is about 20/16 mb/s, which is much faster than class 2. If you wanna watch video storaged in card, this one is your first choice.

Note that the speed in the end is depending on the host itself. If the host is slow, even if you use class 6 memory card, it's not going to make any difference. Personally I believe the phone itself would be the bottleneck and not the memory card.
I know it's not totally relevant but just for reference, take a look at the link below. As you can see the speed of class 2 and 6 are pretty identical as it's limited by the host. This is even with a dedicated memory card reader. Compare the 2nd and 4th entries from the bottom.

I'm using a 16GB Class 2 at the moment. No probs with apps or music. But I have no videos on the card...
with normal sd cards the pdas were mostly not able to transfer as fast as the sd card supported
as the sd interface in onchip and not that fast
would like to see some tests if the same hold true with newer pda's and class X microSD cards

I'm using a Sandisk 8gb Class 4 HC. No problems with speed or data read/write (on the phone itself).
Using the phone as a disk drive though (not activesync) is noticeably slower than using a USB adapter, *suggesting* the phone itself is the bottleneck?
I'm using a SanDisk 8GB Class II Card and I had no problems with photos, videos or music so far.
Don't think a Class 4 or 6 is worth the price in a mobile phone.
I got my 16GB Microsdhc today. And everything works. Sad thing is it only shows 15GB.
I find no difference in speed between my 8G class 6 and 16G class 2 (both from Sandisk)

it's 15G probably because of the way how "G" is being calculated. 16,000,000,000 = 16,000,000,000/(1024*1024*1024) = 14.9GB
im using a 8g class 4 card, music, apps and vids work great.
just a quick question, the x1 has a sd card limit of 32g, when a larger card comes out like the 128gb card that sandisk has said will come out, could windows mobile have a update so that it can read it or is limited to the reader hardware inside the x1
I have 2 cards: Sandisk 16GB Class 2 and Kingston 8GB class 4.
I use Sandisk in Xperia, and the speed is more than sufficient. It reaches 12-15 MB/s writing on USB adapter. Reading - it's no problem reaching even more. So it's ok, speed wise.

I have a 16gb micro sdhc and some .avi videos lag (highish quality). Specifically, top gear season 12 episodes from finalgear.com. it might be the divx client though, Im using the WM 6 Pro version available on the divx website.
I just got an "advertised " centon class 6 card. It seems a little quicker. I can't tell. Anyone can shed some light on this?
Maybe because the card is empty and doesn't have thousands of files on it, like my previous one does, might have something to do with something.
using a faster card will impact the performance slightly. Any time the phone has to go to the SD card to read something (opening apps, pics, videos, etc.), the faster it can read it, the faster it performs.
Is it necessarily noticeable? Probably not.
not a placebo at all, If you had let's say a Class 2 or class 4 sd card and you get a class 6 you can tell the difference.
I changed the stock card for a class 6 and I can tell the diffence as when you view pictures or play music.
For recording and watching video and copying data would benefit from a faster card. With video, you can get studdering if the card can't send and receive data fast enough to keep up with higher bitrates. If you have a card that reads two meg a second and a video that plays at almost four, the card would probably be the bottleneck.
On my old phone (moto backflip). Using aps2sd and swap on the sd card I noticed a difference. I went from the stock card to an 8gb class 6 and then to a 16gb class 10 and noticed a difference each time.

Glad to hear this as I just ordered a 16GB class 10 Patriot card from amazon, was only 35.99 Beats the hell out of my current 4GB class 4
The class of a card is based on write speeds. It could still have bad access speeds which wouldn't do anything to help performance. Random access speed is the spec you care about for stuff other than taking pictures or video. I would look up tests people have done on the card before buying and get one with fast random access speed. There is no easy way to know other than benchmarks people have done. For example I have a 2gb class 2 card that works with a few emulated games(castlevania por in particular) that even a class 6 gives problems. Also it only matters when you are accessing your SD card of course.
I haven't noticed any increase in performance with a faster sd card. The only thing I noticed is a lot better is HD video recording. It can now record HD video without stuttering like before.

I got a 2GB SD CARD FROM SAMSUNG.
I have another LOCAL SD CARD 4GB
My question is will the SPEED Remain same to transfer or access data from both these SD CARDS.
I mean to say is will the LOCAL SD CARD BE SLOWER(since its not samsung branded) IN ACCESSING AND RETRIEVING DATA which will eventually slow down my phone or something like that.

i have noticed that when i changed sd card from samsung original (came with phone) to new transcend 8gb sd card, phone is now booting for 5 minutes....
It being a samsung card doesn't make the card more "compatible" with a samsung phone. A card is defined by the card, not by the brand.

yeah so it means that performance has degraded right.
Also i think booting is not much worry as its done from ROM
so apart from booting what else is buggy or degrading performance,comparing both 2 GB and 8 GB
its on a card to card basis, if it is slower for him it doesnt mean it will be slower for you.
You should use a Class 6 SD card. Slower cards are not adequate.

You can use a class 6 SD card, however, i do not think the phone is capable of handling such high speed cards, and thus the read/write speed of the phone will limit the speed.
Conclusively i don't think there will be an increase in performance!

I have an S7 edge that I'm attempting to move apps to the SD card and they are just painfully slow, if they transfer at all. I'm using a Samsung Evo 128gb class 10 micro sd card. I've also tried a SanDisk 128gb Ultra class 10 card and it was really really slow. Is there some trick to speed this up? Am I using too beefy of a card? Any help is greatly appreciated!!
move the apps always has been slow even in class 10 sd cards, or at least thats what I remember.... but every other thing is just right

The speed of the external microsd card fully depends on the quality and the specs of the microsd card
itself. That's why some microsd cards are slow or super slow.
I have two 128GB microsd cards, one of them is Sandisk Extreme $80 model and it reads and writes
almost 5 times faster than my other off-brand $28 128GB microsdcard. Both microsd cards are class 10.
I am not talking about speed benchmarks, I am talking about real life transfer speeds under heavy usage..
I also have a 64GB off-brand $17 microsd card which is just as slow as my 128GB $28 off-brand microsd.
All 3 of my microsdcards were purchased at Amazon.com

Just got my S7 and transferring speed from PC to external SD is extremely slow (I tried 64GB and 128GB sandisk class 10 which worked great on my last LG-G3...)
I also tried transferring from internal memory to external SD and it was still extremely slow..
Can it be HW problem (I can send it back for refund - but if it SW issue which can be fixed it would be a better)?
I recently bought a Kingston micro SD card 32gb u3 with 90 read 80 write speed. After full formatting on pc and then formatting it with the phone as external storage It works fine for up to 20~30 minutes max before auto ejecting it self. The is no notification or anything from the phone. If I go to storage setting it just simply has vanished from the list. Once I tried transferring a 4gb file to the SD card to see if it will have any issue and halfway through the process the transfer meter stopped followed by a notification saying it is not recommended ejecting the SD card at this time and then completely ejecting it once more. I'm running full stock on September security patch. Any ideas? I returned it to the reseller and ordered a similar one incase this was faulty.

Kingston cards are not the most reputable, but this issue sounds more phone related then a defective card... Try an old school fix, but a layer or two of scotch tape on the back side of the card, slightly increasing the thickness of the card, might maintain contact better.

The thing is first I noticed upon inserting the SD card that it was slightly thicker than the casing so it required a little bit more force. I don't think though it's a thickness problem because a class 10 verbatim u1 card and a class 6 I use now didn't have any problem whatsoever. The new class 6 is an 8gb kingston and when inserted in the space it was moving around a bit, but after inserting it in the phone no problem. Is a SanDisk card recommended as an alternative?

Personally I don't care for them... I recommend Samsung, EVO+ or higher grade.

I have a 2 year old 64GB EVO (non-plus) in my MXPE, works beautifully... My Moto G3 has a 32 EVO+, and my son's Axon 7 has a SanDisk Extreme something (black with red lettering) that is a couple years old as well. All of them work fine.
When people ask me what to get, I recommend the EVO+ for a budget card, or Samsung Pro+ for higher-end applications.

The thing is is the SD on your mxpe u3? I'm looking forward to shoot some 4k videos and I want a SD card that can handle it. Im thinking it might be compatibility issue even though I read it supports u3

The reader in the MXPE is UHS-I, cards are rated in speed class (Class 10, U1, U3) and reader's SD bus speeds are UHS (UHS-I or UHS-II). I have never seen a benchmark for the card reader that is reliable but 70MB/s sustained writes with a proper card are regularly seen. UHS-I is limited to about 90MB/s write speed provided the card can handle it. But really 4K uncompress video only requires about 30MB/s. Although a UHS-II SD bus would be nice, a good U3 card is more than fast enough even at very high frame rates (4k with HD audio at 120 fps is about 60MB/s, depending on codec).
I have recorded 4k (2160p) video using the default camera app on occasion with my old EVO card, no issues with extended recording or frame drops.

So after receiving the new Kingston SD card same type u3 at first input on the phone it worked fine for about 3 hours or so . After this I changed user on the phone to do something and it had lost it . After a reboot the SD card was readable for about 4 minutes . After a second reboot and leaving the phone alone it didn't eject after an hour . Reformatted it as read on a forum that said to clean media and external storage data and reboot . Worked fine form an hour and ejected once more . Thing is I chose Kingston SD card because it is the fast with the best price . Should I just go with SanDisk or Samsung now?
Kingston cards are junk and have never worked well for me. Samsung and Sony cards have been flawless in multiple devices and multiple sizes. Also I have had good luck with Lexar cards currently have a Lexar 128gb in my Moto X pure
