Good lock battery drain - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Has anyone noticed increased battery drain since activatinh good lock? Ive been using it today and it seems like my battery is draining faster. Thanks

No.
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

Yes.. a bit battery drainer and makes my device a bit warmer mostbof the time
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

There is slight drain, but it's nothing really noticeable.. at least not on the latest version of good lock. I had about 2hr 35min SoT at 54% today with good lock running the entire time.. To put it into perspective, I had about 3 hours of SoT with the normal system UI with 49% left.
Either way, the battery trade off is well worth having a vanilla android UI but with all of Samsung's lovely customisations.

To be honest, I have not noticed a battery drain at all.
Even if there is, it should be very minuscule that you would hardly notice

Yes, due to always request location on each wake...

yea its a bit of a drain....i mean..i like it so much it doesn't bother me lol as much as if it was just a ****ty touchwiz alternative lol.... but maybe as it progresses it will get better on battery...the last update from the 5th shows some improvement ...so over time we should it better with more stabiltiy.

The latest version doesn't require location, according to Samsung.

u mean xx.0.6?

Yes. I can't find it now but somewhere Samsung wrote that they fixed the location requirement. I haven't verified that, however. I had another issue that forced me to uninstall it.

The latest version of Good Lock does not constantly prompt location, which is why I installed it and ran it for a bit. The first version did, and that's why I uninstalled it. But since I've decided to root and use Xposed modules, I'm back at the normal system UI.
What issue caused you to uninstall it? I'm rather curious.

any possible way to show icon labels for wifi bluetooth, location ect... in the pull down menue

Seems to consistently take about 4% off my battery. Haven't decided if that's enough to really care. Really like the lock screen.

It took over 15% of my battery (no location enabled, just "everywhere"). It was next under the screen in battery stats. Needless to say I uninstalled it because of that only. Otherwise I kind of liked it except for the multitasking.

I've seen a little bit of battery drain but I get an entire day out of my phone so I'm not worried about it. Never as much as you say though. Maybe uninstall and reinstall it. I love the new UI. Also HUGE update came out today

I think that the battery usage is dependent on the number of routines that you run. I personally just set up the default routine to my liking and don't have any others set up and Goodlock typically stays under 5% usage.

My wifi keeps switching off

Newest version does not give me any drain at all. Now it's also optional to have the new multitasking or not.

Crazy wakelocks: please help

I'm noticing some incredibly high kernel wakelocks on my Note 4, which aren't present on my Note 2 (which rules out something on my network causing the problem ).
It's anyone having these? Any idea how the heck I'm suppose to get these lower? Wlan_wake in particular is firing off several dozen wakelocks per second.

get an app called Amplify, aka LiOn Tamer, aka as far as i know dev could be changing the name of the app again as we speak. The regular version is usually good enough, although the donate version takes care of most of the other wakelocks...assuming you are rooted and have xposed installed, if not, good luck.
This app is probably one of the best apps to control wakelocks, the battery life increase is also considerable.
As of now I got 4h34 screen on time in 19h47 of battery life and have 37% left. I'm pretty sure if I wasn't working tomorrow and needed a full charge in the morning I could hit 6.5h of screen on time and an extra 7h battery life before I reach 0%. Stats that are not possible without this app

I've got Amplify, but it's not showing any wakelocks that would be close to those listed (in # of triggers). I am experimenting with a completely isolated wifi AP - so there's no way that devices on my network are pinging my phone. So far, wlan_wake and KeyEvents are still highish ,but there are some strange ones named "Event"followed by a number DASH number... I have no clue what the hell those are

I am using Greenify - are you saying I should disable? These particular wakelocks have only come up in the past few days (maybe after the most recent firmware update) and I've been using Greenify since I got the phone, weeks ago.

dont disable it, just make sure you update the app list on it. I also got a N4 on launch day and the update was there out of the box, i dont have such issues though. I'm pretty sure an app is causing this, just gotta know which one. It could be almost any app, check your per app battery usage and see if an app is draining abnormally your battery.
You haven't mentioned this anywhere, but is this affecting battery life?

I've been getting poor screen on time, but these wakeups seen abnormally high (half MILLION triggers in less than 24 hours???).
I'm going to look at packets on my network to see if any are pinging my device for no good reason.

For information...
I installed the latest c firmware (d in build prop) with LG flash tool (NOT UPGRADE), a CLEAN install.
wiped(factory reset) before flashing, then in flash tool cleared and made a CLEAN install and factory reset after to be safe (3 resets) .
Now I get very few screen misses, and screen on time 4.5 hours.
Before this I got screen on time maximum 2,5 hours.
Just wanted to let you guys/Girls in on this as it worked perfect for me and my wife.
Thanks for the placebo

Think I've been around enough to make an accurate judgement, add I'm an recognised developer, I made a hell of a lot of mods and ROM's all developed for two things only battery life with good speed.
You don't have to believe me, what matters is for me, add I got a much better phone.
Hi smaberg,
I was wondering if you are on the Euro 815 version of the G4? Based on your post I'm guessing you are? As a guy who knows what he/she is doing, I was wondering if you could make a flashable zip of the version d firmware? I have a mac and my understanding is you need a pc for the LG flash tool?
Figured I would ask and would greatly appreciate if you could help!!
Do you have the same set of apps installed as you did before the firmware and resets?
I saw better battery results on my second G4 vs my first, some of which I assume was because I installed a lot less apps on the second unit. Which seems reasonable to me.
What device is the OP using?
Sent from my LGLS991 using Tapatalk
I'm on international 815 (Euro).
Still using the exact same apps(didn't use LG backup Restore as it brings back the old draining Barry problem from my old backup).
And NO I can't make an zip, as it would skip some important steps. I mean I can make it, NO problem, but then you will end up with the exact same problem add the old.
hey Smaberg, can you outline the step to flash the new version? I'm using 815, but since i'm residing in Asia, my phone is not seeing any upgrades.
Yeah i also like to get exact steps you made to flash

android 5.x has been utter failure imo.
@smaberg, 4.5 hrs screenon is nothing to be specially proud on, yesterday i had 6hrs with 12.5hrs on battery. Device is H815 and firmware is v10c howecer, i got my device on saturday and did just root it this night... we will see how it behaves now.

I know, but compared to before, with only 2 hours, sometimes even less worth stock a and b I'm pretty ☺ happy, now I'm going to deactivate some junk and see the results, and when I'm done I'll share it.
I'm trying to get the best battery without root, then with root and some of mine scripts and files mod. And we'll see where we stand. In the end maybe an ROM pure made for battery as in the old days. If some still want this? I thought/think people mostly want bling bling and speed...

Hi,
I would definitely be interested in a battery life based ROM. I find that premium phones have more than enough power you need (if youre not a gamer) so as long as the UI is smooth battery life is more important to me.
Regards,
Ravi

You can turn it on manually which some people do to prolong battery life rather than just when on low battery.

check if doze is working on your s7.

so if anyone uses gsam, check to see if doze shows up at all when you goto graphs and goto the end. mine doesn't doze at all it seems. and when I look at screen usage, it seems the percentage is higher when the screen is off lmao. wtf.
btw battery history hours are wrong in this pic. gsam does that sometimes. I'm really only like 5 hours off charger.

It could be a certain app keeping it awake.
but in gsam, absolutely nothing is keeping it awake. my biggest wake times are android system or android OS.

I thought doze's biggest selling point was that an app couldn't keep it from activating unless specifically told to do so...?
Apparently if the phone is moved even a little bit or the motion sensors are tripped, Doze does not work. It still needs some work.
ahh maybe I'm moving and touching it then. ok so doze is absolutely useless to me. I checked at the end of the day, and not one time throughout the day was it active.

You can turn Doze off if you think it is causing issues... Go into battery under settings, then hit "more" at the top then "optimize battery usage"
That will allow you to disable it completely or just for individual apps.

Serious battery life problem after update yesterday

Damn if restarting or clearing system cache in recovery mode doesn't work you might need to do a factory restore
I was thinking "Oh great, yet another dude complaining about losing 5 minutes of his 8 hour SOT", but I'll admit this is a weird issue, especially if you haven't enabled or used bluetooth at all. Have you checked with a different logger, like Gsam?

Yeah I'm not the type to moan about poor SOT. The battery life on this phone is among the best. But yesterday was just terrible. Seems today it is doing better. Only time will tell.
I also have battery life issues after the APD1 update. Whereas before the phone had no problem lasting 48 hours, now it struggles to last 36 hours (Exynos here). I hate these stupid updates: notification LED is dimmer under most light conditions, battery life now sucks...thanks, Samsung !

Here's a thought, I also had pretty "bad" battery life after the previous update, and then it got back to normal after I re-enabled the stock Samsung apps that I had previously disabled, so enable them again and let them be for a day or two and see if you notice any changes. This doesn't apply to your bluetooth issue, but I just thought of this now.

Cool. Thanks for the tip. I've experienced exactly the same thing with this update - was getting about 48hrs with just shy of 6 hours screen on time. I have a long weekend coming up, so I'll see how it goes and then restore if I think it needs it.
I typically use Ultra Power Saving Mode overnight. It lost 13% last night in about 9hrs. I would have been disappointed with anything more than about 2%. So hopefully a reset will fix this because I've been loving the battery mode up to this point!!!!

that backs up the apps, but not the "app data" which is a internally saved to the phone itself.
Basically my "Android System" usage went from 2-3% to 17-19% after this update. On the Exynos. So now the Exynos is now as bad as the SD820 at battery life.
I will reset my phone to factory right now, if this does not solve it (and I highly doubt it) then my only option is to flash the old APC8 firmware (it's possible to do it without rooting, right ?)

Do I get it right - you just upgraded, have used it some hours and "feel" that the battery is better now?
Is the screen on time better or is the idle better or both?
Which version did you use previously: 570 or 575?
How bad was your battery?
What is your phone usage scenario (what apps and how much do you use AND how much is the phone in idle)?
How long have you used this 291 version?
I really would like to know...
Feel it's better with the latest update usually I get around a day at the most with the previous update with normal use...my opinion it's better with stamina mode

Sadly the stamina mode is not customizable. It' just on or off. You can't change what you want to keep (for example the vibration). Well, f**k.

Stamina doesn't exclude apps optimization. They work together. One is for the hardware, so you lose vibration, screen optimization and so one. The other optimize the usage of the battery from the apps.
But sadly Stamina is not as powerful as it was with Lollipop

Hi,
I'm having quite an issue with battery life since I've updated to version 23.5.A.1.291.
I think I know what's causing it though, as I have accepted some prompt that told me that the charging of the battery will be optimized but the battery life will be negatively affected. Does anyone know how I can reverse this setting?? I've searched a lot but can't seem to find it.
Thanks

I think I know what's causing it though, as I have accepted some prompt that told me that the charging of the battery will be optimized but the battery life will be negatively affected. Does anyone know how I can reverse this setting?? I've searched a lot but can't seem to find it.
Thanks

calling this stamina mode is an insult to people who buy their phones, literally just a re-branded battery saver already built into the phone , extremely pissed off

Thank you both very much. Hopefully the battery life will return to being good again.
Still no reason to update from 5.0.1 huh? Shame.
Hi,
I actually have build 23.5.A.0.575 rooted, if I upgrade will I loose root?
I stil havent seen it in the netherlands
The "new" stamina mode also disables vibration. I usually have only vibration for calls, texts and calendar alarts. If I have stamina mode on the the phone is completly silent without vibration. Makes the feature totally useless for me.
