That's not correct.
The screen is off in your pocket, and as soon as it is removed, the clock comes on.
I don't have to push anything to get it to show the clock.

That's Correct On My AT&T S7 Edge if i pull it out from my case on belt it goes on right away , don't have to touch any buttons, if i put it back in case from my belt goes back off which thats normal!

Always on display is awesome! The average person looks at their device 150 times a day just to look at the time, why not have it there for you as soon as you look at the phone. Plus it only drains the battery 5% the entire day.

There's a setting to turn the screen off completely when it notices that it's in a dark place, like your pocket. It prevents you from butt dialing, etc. This feature can be shut off so the always on display won't shut down.

Battery History is helpful [demonstration]

I only got about 5hrs barely using my device while at the rockets game last night. I noticed my screen was on 100% at times before and not sleeping. According to the reports.
So when I got home I opened my Battery History app [free from market] and found the root of the evil. Even tho I had Weatherbug not updating or any alerts, it still caused my fone never to sleep.
Uninstalled weather bug and my problems are over

That's actually very helpful.
if the screen is off, does that necessarily mean it's sleeping ?
(asking seriously, not snarky)
AND.. thanks for pointing out the additional functionality, functionality (anyone see short circuit ?? LOL)
I'm gonna wait a few hours and peek at mine and see what the culprit is
EDIT: this can also be found in Spare Parts for those that don't have that app yet.
Thanks a lot, that you found it useful. My mission is complete lol.
Correct, under normal conditons having the screen off puts the fone onto sleep mode. Kind of like a soft suspend.
But having a bugger of a program can keep your phone awake, with the screen off.
And you are right, those settings arein spare parts, which most of us have. As this function was ripped out

[Q] Galaxy S4 standby doesnt work

So i've had the S4 since it got released and i like it,
but for some reason the standby doesnt work at all.. i have it set to turn off the screen after 30 secs of idle and it does not work.
anyone else having this issue?
mine works fine. see what apps have been installed. maybe some app requires not to go in standby and prevents the screen to go off

Have similar problem - screen do not off completely. Does not mateer what time I chose, does not matter if smart stay is on or off. I do not have it's icon visible in the status bar whet it is off. Anyway screen is always on. Any help?
Same problem here. The phone just dims its screen but it never shuts it off.
This is quite annoying when the phone lights up to show the low batt warning and just drains all its remaining energy. Perfect.

Try disabling all smart stay options (smart pause could still be on).

Seems that I found the reason. But still do not have permanent solution. After restart screen went off without problem. After running some application it became constantly on again. When I closed some applications (long press home button and swipe open applications) screen also turned off normally. So probably some application makes such a problem. Have to check which one.

[Q] Nexus 7 White Dot?

Hey guys,
When I turned on my Nexus 7 the other day, I noticed what looked like a white fingerprint against the screen, like someone had pressed against it too hard (no one had, it was sitting perfectly safe), and I had never seen this kind of problem before, so I thought I'd come here. I have two pictures of it. They aren't the best, but you can see the problem in them. Any ideas on what it is, and how to fix it?

That looks like a fissure or an unprecisely-shaped grid of dead pixels. Do you get that upon boot?

It had been dead for some time, but once I recharged and booted it up, I noticed it. It hadn't been there before, and I haven't tried resetting the tablet.

That would appear to be an issue with the hardware then, unfortunately. I don't think a reset will do anything if you noticed it as soon as you booted since it appears before the OS even started. Has the size or shape changed at all since you first noticed it? Does *gently* bending the tablet in any direction affect its appearance?

Screen acting up

I've dropped the phone quite a few times but the screen looks perfect. But the past few days I noticed to drag the notification drawer down I have to push on the screen hard while I drag or it will slide back up. It acts up other times too. For instance, in snapchat while holding down to view a snap if I slide my finger out of the way it deselects. Could I have caused damage that's not visible? It also has a TPU case.
Update: I notice the problem only happens vertically and I have no problem swiping side to side. And I also realized its not how hard I press, its more how slowly I swipe. to pull the notification drawer down I have to either pull it really slow or flick it down
I've noticed this same exact behavior on my Verizon G2. I found that my Knock On stopped working as well. Trying to figure out the cause, I tested the Screen with the Paint option in YAMTT.
I found there was a decent portion of the screen that was unresponsive to touch all the way from left to right in a band, almost directly over the physical buttons on the back.
I've called Verizon and they are sending me another one over night.

Had same problem and sent to LG. They replaced with reconditioned phone. Common problem.
If I take it to best buy where I got it will they fix it?
Mine isn't working in about the same spot as yours and knock on works only occasionally

No, they will not. This needs to go back to the manufacturer for warranty.

Trick I use to save battery

I know some people won't want to do this, but it's something I do that I personally find helps with battery life. Nothing revolutionary, and some people won't want to but... different strokes for different folks. It's very tempting with this beautiful screen of ours to blast the brightness and get the most out of the Super AMOLED (or whatever they're calling it these days) but I've found if I'm in the same environment reading/watching videos/whatever to turn the brightness ALL the way down. Struggle with that for a few minutes while your eyes try to adjust, then turning the brightness up just a tiny bit will be (or at least seem) plenty bright. Anyway, combining that along with having rooted with Scott's CleanROM (I'm on Verizon) and my battery life has been golden! [emoji2]
Here's a screenshot of where I'll often have my brightness after doing this.

Seems really low, but I have no problem reading or doing anything at this brightness, unless I'm out in direct sunlight or something. Anyway, just my .02

This is not a trick.
Suggestion then
I use the slider on the left to turn down the brightness in mxplayer which is my de facto movie watching app.... Turn it to 15 in bright day time environments and down to 5 indoors or in dark scenarios. Otherwise the system wide default is +5 on the notification slider and auto. Able to cross 5.5 SOT easily with this much.
I have a trick to open the phone. I use the power button on the side or the home button on the front of the phone.

I've been wondering how to open the phone, thanks!
You should try out adaway! It's much more powerful than adblockplus, it actually modifies the host file. Also, try out lux if you haven't. It's seriously my favorite and most essential app. I don't know how I survived without it all these years.
