What is "Quick Tools"? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

In Application Manager there is an app called Quick tools 1.0.71 that takes up 1.8 MB but it doesn't exist in my apps folders and seems to be running and downloading information constantly. I can't stop, disable or remove it. Is anyone familiar with this program?
Sorry if this is a dumb question but I couldn't find anything on it on the web other than an app which doesn't look like what I have.

It's for edge bar. It's the features like the ruler compass etc I believe

I see. Thanks for the clarification!

I struggled too! You need to get the edge up, then there is settings gear at the bottom, tap on this and you need to tick the checkbox at the top of each category to make it active.
This shows how long since last on here VVVVVVVVVVVVV ;o)

Sort Apps on Touchwiz App Drawer alphabetically

I'm searching for an option (App, Mod, deleting a file with Root Explorer, ...) to sort the apps in Touchwiz Application Drawer in grid view alphabetically.
just go to settings / Applications / manage installed applications (or something like this), set applications filter to "show all" and wipe application data of samsung "Home" application.. btw, doing so you'll lose all your home screen settings (widgets, shortcuts..)
I already know that, i should have mentioned that i don't want to loose my home screen settings.
I like my apps sorted alphabetically in the app launcher, but i don't want to reset my home screen settings each time i install / deinstall one or more apps.
same here. too bad that's the only way I found atm..
Why not just arrange it alphabetically, thats what i did.

Is there something to manage your app icon locations on your pc like with the iPhone? I can just drag and drop and create menu's via iTunes.

Any ideas which files are deleted if i delete the application data of the Home Application (as mentioned above)?
The app order ist saved in /dbdata/databases/com.sec.android.app.twlauncher/launcher.db. If you delete the file and restart the phone (i think restarting the TW UI should also be enough) the apps are sorted alphabetically but unfortunatelly it also deletes the Homescreen settings.
So it would be necessary to sort the entries in the database file, which i can't do
I have looked at the db. It should be easy to backup the favorites table (home screen) and restore. Thus a simple workaround would be:
1. Export favorites table (home screen)
2. Delete the db file
Restart system/TW
3. Import the table
Restart system/TW
Maybe someone could write an app for Android, to directly sort the apps table (all application screens). However some apps are only referenced there (for example com.aldiko.android.samsung/com.aldiko.android.samsung.ui.Bookshelf) without full names. There must be a way to find the app name and sort alphabetically. It's doable.
Why not use TouchwizGTG?
IIRC you go into the settings and view as a list, then you can sort alphabetically. then just change the view back to grid and it sorts it.
think thats how i used to do it. got the TouchwizGTG now so cant test my thoery.
hope this helps, Matt
@ Rumble6059 that doesn't work. Only works for the list view, not the grid.

Upz for TouchwizGTG!!
+1 for TWGTG
Not being able to auto sort the grid view is so stupid. I just switched the list view which isn't nearly as pretty. Oh well I don't go in there often anyways but at least when I do I can find something in fairly short and predictable amount of time.
As has been stated, TouchWiz GTG already has this functionality already and more...
Search in market for TouchWiz Application Sorter.
It requires rooted phone and stock TouchWiz 3.0.

[Q] Battery status app

Ok, I give up.
This is probably a nooby question, but I can't find the answer anywhere.
I have seen a battery usage screen on my Fascinate twice. It displays what device or program is using the most power. I can find how to get to that screen again.
It's probably right in front of me.
I have searched everywhere but I'm missing something.

That is so intuitive.
NOT.
Thanks everyone.
Now to find out why this dang thing blocks me from downloading applications.
Much to learn.
Go to menu-settings-applications and check the box on top by "allow installation of non-market apps" then it should work.

I had already done that. The browser just refuses to download it.
Use astro. In the settings check the 'enable browser downloader' option.

S7 Edge in App Settings

Hey all, just got my new S7E and found a bit of a problem, i installed my usual alarm clock app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ihandysoft.alarmclockpro&hl=en_GB but found the only way i can get into the settings on the app is to go via accessibility options, really don't want to have to have the little floating box around all the time and it's a bit of a hassle having to enable this just to be able to choose an alarm time, just wondering if anyone has any other suggestions other than change my alarm app, was hoping for something along the lines of an option or another app to add triple tap the screen to open in app settings or something?
Any help greatly appreciated as always.

MIUI notes/tips

I don't know about anyone else, but this is my first MIUI phone.
I thought it would be useful to start a thread regarding MIUI notes/tips/etc that are specific to MIUI.
The first big one of course - how to fix push notifications:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/bensin/...ions-on-xiaomis-miui-8-for-real/#11f834174e1b
I was about to start this very thread
I found a cool feature
You can select several photos for deleting by simply gliding your fingers over the photos
Another cool feature
You can orient that device do that it's upside
The top bezel-less becomes downwards.
The phone is also programmed to rotate it to the standard orientation during a phone call because of Mic location.
One thing I quite like is how specific WIFI connects can be disabled without having to remove them.
Our work WIFI blocks certain things, so it's nice to be able to disable it but not have
to totally remove it (and then reenter all the passwords when I re-enter it).

For each WIFI connection, there is a little > to the right of it.
If you touch that you go into another menu, and one option is 'auto connect on/off'.
Turning off autoconnect helps in situations where there are multiple WIFI signals, but you only want it autoconnecting to a specific one.

2 finger swipe on notifications displays their details (or what is called Peek)

Thanks for clarifying.
What if I'm in the range of two networks that I've saved the passwords for.
Which does the mi mix connect to when I enter range?
Looks like the last one I've connected to.

That's actually a primitive way of doing it.
Samsung did it better by letting you 'peek' one-handedly with a simple swipe down of the notification.
With mi mix, I have to use two hands. I can do it with one hand but it's tough.

And just found out, we can't "swipe away" the notifications from the lockscreen directly. Need to pull down the shade and clear from there. Would this not be considered a stupid decision?!

Perhaps there's a solution if you root/install Xposed & a module is available for lockscreen options.
I'm rooted, but, haven't used Xposed in ages, considering trying it again......
On Samsung devices,(non-root) Ad Blocking apps have a persistent notification on the lockscreen that cannot be swiped away,.The only remedy for this was to turn off the ad blocking.

I followed all the steps.
I understood that there are several instances of settings and installed apps.
I went through all of them but still could not disable or uninstall pre-loaded apps like Mi Credit, Mi Cloud and all those Mi nonsense apps.

Those are uninstallable I guess (as Mi earns from these apps and not selling the phone), few rubbish were uninstalled using this method.
I should be able to disable them though
Apparently not
Some more MIUI notes:
menu + volume down = screenshot
hardware test: dial *#*#6484#*#*
More phone info: dial *#*#4636#*#*
There is a toggle to disable the navigation buttons (double tap them to re-enable)
handy if you keep accidentally hitting them.
in 'buttons' can auto disable for any particular app (games)
In accessibility there is a magnification mode - triple tap to allow/disable zooming of screen. (EDIT: it's bugged - it isn't supposed to trigger during keyboard typing, but it does, effectively making it useless)
wake with volume buttons is in lockscreen menu, not "button"
There are some apps that just won't stay uninstalled. Anyone got idea how to remove them? PPTV for example

Just swipe away the apps you want to close manually and leave the desired one there, close all will close all, there's no way to change that.

You can lock the apps and prevent them from closing. In the recent apps, there is a 3 dot menu in the top right corner. Tap it and you will see the option for locking apps.

I have this same problem. Trying to find a way to lock my Tile App. Turned off my battery saver so system wont close open apps. Tried everything i could think of and that is suggested
on line. Nothing works. Tile cant even help.
How do I do what you suggest?
How do I access the recent apps? Is it through the 3 line button at bottom of sceen where it shows small pages of everything open or somewhere else?
When I look there....the individual pages don't show the 3 dots.
Thank you for any help you can offer!

Hi,
What you mean "tap on tile app"? I can not find "allow background activity". Phone is galaxy s8, android pie.
Few days back a call recorder apk sent me there and I realize this option is not deleted from android. It just hidden, like stop FB updates.

See the gif I attached
Ok problem resolved.
There is three options to be set:
1) "Sleeping aps" - go to Settings and type in search bar on top "Sleeping aps"
I Add all apk except: AutoBlutooth, Button mapper, Call recorder, Weather widget, Email and messaging apk
2) "Optimize battery usage" - go to Settings and type in search bar on top "Optimize battery usage" Click again on top row "Optimize battery usage", Click on "App not optimized" and change to "All", find apk that make problem by sleeping.
I Disable :AutoBlutooth, Button mapper, Call recorder, ect. I do not add here email and messaging apk, as they never have sleeping issues. Maybe because not have 3day(default sleep setting) not using them in a row.
3) "Allow background activity" - go to Settings==>>Apps==>>Select application you want not to sleep==>>Battery==>>Allow background activity
It will be set to Enable to all apk, that are not added to "Sleeping aps"
Additional step:
"Device admin apps" - If Application is already here, can give Admin status. It will prevent accidental change of "Optimize battery usage" and "Allow background activity"
p.s
This why my messaging apps have Enabled Allow background activity and Optimise battery usage.
Button mapper, Call recorder ect have Enabled Allow background activity and Disabled Optimise battery usage
