[SOLVED] fast wireless charging no longer an option - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

OK
I pre-ordered the S7 Edge. I loved it, but I had a screen failure. the local store replaced it. as I was setting it back up I noticed I was missing a specific setting.
under battery, I had an option for fast charging. when I opened that I had two options. Fast cable charging and Fast wireless charging.
so I could decide to turn one or the other off or on.
Now, I have fast cable charging only. there is no wireless fast charging option available.
what am i missing? does it still allow fast wireless?
what does everyone else have? what dos it mean?
thanks
Shawn

It's weird..I just looked at my and only have fast charge cable. No option fast wireless

I opened a thread not long ago about this very same issue. Mine never had the "fast wireless charging" and when I put my S7 edge on a fast wireless charing pad it just regulary wireless charge.
I tried to searching or some1 else with the same issue but not luck. It`s disabled somehow and I can`t figure how to activate it.

This is what I have whilst charging with the cable.
When I disconnect the charger I can toggle both options.

Me too I also do not have a wireless charging option

Same here, no wireless charging option [Exynos, carrier-free]. I have the new wireless charger from Samsung but I haven't tested it yet, I got it the day i just charged my phone and i'm now on my 3rd day with 55% battery life left so I guess it'll take another 2/3 days until i will test it.

I will say that on my previous phone. I did test the fast wireless and it worked fine. but now i have no way of testing it. I assume it is disabled.

I wonder if this is a difference in processors? I originally had the titanium and when it died they swapped it for black that or I had to wait weeks for the new titanium.

I just asked about this on a native forum cause I lack this option too and I was told this option wont appear until you use the wireless fast charger. I'll report back once I do. Though I have a feeling you guys already used it and still lack it.

the option is hidden(for me anyway), but it showed up once I place my phone on the wireless charger for the first time.

The option will appear when you put your s7 for the 1st time on the Samsung Wireless Charger (Fast Charging enabled) under "Accessories"!
"Snel draadloos opladen" = "Fast wireless charging"

i'll double check in a bit but i had that option straight out of the box initially. i'll test that theory and let everyone know
does it have to be a fast wireless charger to initiate it? i threw it on a regular wiresless charger that didn't change it.

I have an official Samsung fast wireless charger pad and the option didn't appear once I put my phone on it.
I also have an regular Qi charger pad and I it takes the same time to charge as the official fast one.
The option seems disabled somehow. I'm thinking about flashing the official ROM again to see it it works.

You used the new one? Or the older that works with the S6 Edge+ and Note 5?/
I have the older one, but I didn't tried the new one that was released with the S7.

I have, it works. The cable is super long.. enough to get to the back of a minivan.
But oddly enough, they sent me the wrong plug, they said maybe I had a different version of the A500.. ahha
But they did correct it and sent me a new plug that fits. However, it is a bit longer than Acer's so it'll feel a bit loose. No worries though, it charges and that's whats important to me. The battery icon will show charting when lower than 100% battery (e.g. 95%), after 100% the charging icon goes away and stays at 100%.
I bought the Walmart charger discussed here and it immediately blew the 20A fuse for my power port.

I've got that one as part of a set:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/160653018416?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649
Same seller even.
The car charger fit, but it would only charge for about 3-4 seconds; then the red light went out and it stopped charging. I tried it on several vehicles. I think it might be defective. It's supposed to detect a charged battery and automatically disengage, but it does it even when my battery is 50%.
The wall charger does not work. Interestingly, when it is plugged in, it reports as charging, but does not actually charge. I suspect the connector might be too long, and the pin in the A500 can't reach the back of the connector hole. This makes the unit think it's charging when it actually isn't.
I'm currently negotiating to send these items back for refund, but the problem with ordering from China is that there is often a language barrier. The seller did get back to me quickly, but his reply didn't make a lot of sense. I get the impression that he is trying to help me, but it is going to take some effort.
Hope that helps,
-PW

I think this is the one I did buy too. I have had reported as it is working fine but unfortunately since few days now I noticed that visioally it appears as if it charges but actually not while in use. Otherwise, when the device is of, it charges very good.
I think I might need to investigate for some thing more efficient, but where?

I can confirm that this happens with the wall charger I purchased (mentioned above) and occasionally with the car charger too. The tablet will report as charging (lightning bolt), but the battery level will actually be depleting. I've come to understand that this is a common problem with aftermarket adapters.
I'm not sure if this is a hardware problem, or a software one. It's possible that the charger pin might not be making contact completely. It's also possible that there might be a provision in the firmware that prevents charging under certain circumstances. Thirdly, it just might be a crappy adapter that can't handle the amperage that the tablet is drawing.
I've noticed that sometimes rebooting the tablet causes the car adapter to start working, but the wall adapter never works. This may indicate a soft/firmware limitation.
It will require further investigation.

I think I'll investigate this behavior myself too. After reading your post I actually remembered it acting flakey in a rental car on vacation, while playing music off my A500. But I was also charging my phone with GPS on at the same time off the tablet, so imagine the power load on the thing... I didn't pay much attention as I was driving... I practically never use a car charger home, so will have to try and replicate the issue I guess...

Can someone post pic of the factory LG USB cable?

I swear I am using the cable that came with the phone but fast charge isn't working.... Always says I'm charging in slow mode...
Looking specifically for a close up pic of the two ends of the cable so I can visually verify I have the right one...
Thanks!
Do you use the cable with the original LG Charger ?
The LG Charger is 1,8A output.
The commons chargers and USB on computers are 1A output.
SO if you plug in your cable to a computer or other charger, it's normal.

from the D802, but really just try another cable to the charger if it makes any difference.
Hmmm, that is definitely different than what I believe to be the cable that came with my G2. Not sure how to tell what version of us, but it's Verizon.
But yes I have tried many combinations of cables with the LG charger and none of them are fast charging. Using CurrentWidget and a couple other battery monitoring apps, I've also found that I get a much higher amperage draw from the charger that came with my galaxy s3. Anywhere from 200mA - 400mA, whereas I only get 50mA-150mA with the cable in this pic and the 1.8mA LG charger. But still all of then state that they are Slow Charging.
Can someone tell me if this is the stock LG USB cable?
Does it matter if we use the fat g2 USB vs regular one like above picture?

You would be surprised how many times an USB cable matters, and then again when it doesn't.
For example a chromecast USB cable which I accidentally got, did not charge my phone almost at all and not DATA connection was possible. But that was a clear error and I do not think that cable should be used with anything but with the Chromecast being nicely shielded and all.
ASUS in my country uses same cables as the one pictured above (Still does not mean that his is not original LG). But if you get a normal connection on the computer same goes for AC , USB charging in places where they should be, use whatever cables you want.
Stay away rather from too generic, skinny unbranded ones from chinese pages. (Even though from them I always buy iPhone cables . BUt who would pay 15 bucks instead of 1 and they served my wife well)
So far ASUS, HTC, Samsung , LG, and Nokia cables did there job mixing across my devices.
Verizon stock cable.

I apparently lost mine then.. Does anyone where you can buy a cable that supports the fast charge? Or even what spec to look for?
It doesn't seem like its a very exact science..

Pagot - YEESS! I acutally used my Chromecast USB cable (which I'll be returned on Monday btw cause, well its just not that cool) ALL NIGHT LONG!!! I didn't think anything of it plugged it in and immediately walked away. Little did I realize, it was one of those cables that, 5 seconds after plugging in, reports that you should unplug it immediately to avoid damaging the phone!!!
I didn't see the message until the next morning and saw that my phone didn't get charged that night. And for about 2 days, I had VERY strange charging issues.. (see this post) I think they've gone away now, except that my fast charge isn't working.. But, back to the original purpose of this post, Im hoping that is USB cable related..
Anyway, it was the wierdest this, for about 2 days, certain chargers and USB cables that have always worked on this phone, didn't. The first day nothing but plugging into my computer would register any charge.. By that night most chargers worked but some wouldn't provide more than 50mA, and now, all of them seem to be working again..
SOOO, moral of the story is that in incorrect USB cable CAN damage your phone! At least temporarily.. Still doesn't make any sense to me how though.. Perhaps some protect feature kicked in and caused the symptoms I saw, but all I know is that my phone wouldn't charge anymore after using that Chromecast cable...

No fast wireless charging option on tmobile S7 edge?

Hey guys,
I am not seeing the fast wireless charging option on my silver Tmobile S7 Edge. I see the fast cable option, but beneath that is supposed to be the fast wireless charging option, according to reviews I have seen online. Anyone else in the same boat?

Anyone have any guesses as to why some of us have this option and some of us dont? Exynos versus SD? I thought all US phones were SD anyway? I need to go find that app that tells you exactly what hardware you have including camera sensors....
EDIT: I downloaded AIDA64 app and checked all the hardware. SD820 and Sony IMX260 as expeted. Front camera is weird - "SLSI_S5K4E6XX"
DId you guys check the accessories area and see if you unchecked the option in there?

I have the S7 Edge in silver that came on Tuesday and have the Wireless Fast Charging option and have used it the past two nights with no issue. I am using the same fast wireless charger that I had for my Note 5.
Weird. I don't have it on mine. Maybe it needs to see a pad first?

Charging port (plastic around it) - scratches

Hi guys,
I know it's no biggie and it's my OCD forcing me now to post that but that's what i've noticed upon closer inspection of my charging port.
As you hopefully can see on the photo, the plastic around the micro USB port has a couple of scratches/grooves.
Now, before you blame it on me, let me assure you that I'm very gentle with my phone and everytime i put it on charge i never force anything.
I know the plug has quite sharp edges but the plastic shouldn't be that prone to scratches, should it?
What about you guys?Have you noticed anything similar on your phones?
Thank you in advance

I've got old man's eyes, but even with bifocals I can't see any scratches on mine. And if I could, I'd just ignore them.

Hmm...no scratches on yours...suggesting different ,more durable material used perhaps?[emoji33]
Paying attention to negligible details, I know[emoji12] l'll get over it, eventually[emoji13]

I didn't think to mention that most of the time I use a wireless charger, but I do plug it in sometimes. Maybe after more use I'll notice scratches, too.
Mine has 2 marks in the same spot it's just a rubber water seal.. marks are from inserting the charger they line up perfect
Same here , there are two small grooves on mine , caused by the two spring retaining locks of the micro usb
Are you serious? Jesus ocd stop it.

Maybe I should try that too[emoji4].
My only concern would be battery health. I know it gives you this ultimate convenience and all , but from what I've read wireless charging is not as efficient as the wired one. Lost energy turns into heat, and your wireless charger can get quite warm during charging. This causes stress on the battery as it sits on the mat...
And that of course , is a red flag for a craaazy guy like me[emoji12]

I started using a Qi charging puck on my LG G3. And on that phone, it generated quite a it of heat. I'm still using the same (non fast charge) puck on the S7, and it doesn't get warm enough to notice. Maybe because the S7 is designed for wireless fast charge, the lower current of the regular Qi charger isn't enough to bother it.
I'm using an older version of this one. Cheap enough to try and see. You need to use a charger with at least 1.8 amps to run this. The one that comes with the S7 works fine.

yeh my one as well but too late i discovered it. now i use wireless charger whenever possible
I know what you mean with this. I don't use USB often on mine so it doesnt have anything on it. I would recommend wireless charging. Its what I have done since day one.

I guess we'll have to either live with that or switch permanently to wireless charging...One way or another, it's time to hit the bumpy road to acceptance
What has this world come to. Can't believe I'm even replying to this thread...

Keep it that way then

So called fast wireless charging

So, i buy the Huawei expensive wireless charger, £60 UKP, very expensive
Sit the phone on it, 2 hrs 10, well that's feeble
Unplug it, use same cable it used but in phone, 1 hr 43.
Riiiight. What a waste of money

Yep it's turned on for comparison this is the stock charger
Really Samsung could have done better with charging

Agreed. It's been the same for 4-5 years.
I have original samsung fast wireless charger. and it wont fast charge anymore since last big update, takes near 3 hours for full charge :/ (fast wireless charge is toggled on in settings)
i suggest you monitor the power during wireless charging. it won't hit 15W from the start. and probably when it's near full charge, not sure how near, it won't hit 15W too.
i hv a usb device with an oled screen that will show the power, btw
and make sure your wireless charger is connected to the correct adapter. make sure the usb c cable is rated to support high wattage too.

If you wanted a phone for fast charging you should have gone with the OP6T. Wireless charging will never (maybe in the future, there is a possibility) be as fast as cable charging. Also, I would recommend for wireless charging to use the samsung products, other charges or other cables from other companies can have an effect on your battery. Huawei does not make chargers for Samsung phone, so they do not take into account the specs and how the battery voltages are.
Yes, the charger is compatible, but not build for that reason, the same as Airpods are not build for Samsung and Galaxy buds are not build for iPhone.
This is just my opinion, there is no reason to create a post to complaint about this, but what the heck we are entitled to say anything, just keep that in mind.
It's a forum, we can say what we want within the rules .
There is a lint, and a big point, may stop someone else wasting their money and that's a perfectly good reason to share

the point of wireless charging is so that right before you sleep, with lights turned off, all you need to do is rest your phone on it.
you probably would sleep 8 hours, dare i say slow charging would have been better for this.
in office, if you are often not at your desk, sit on the desk 15min then went off somewhere for a moment, probably faster/turbo/super wireless charging would have helped.
if you are a field engineer, probably wired power bank will help.

1: peak power is only delivered between 40-80% or whenever the voltage is judged healthy
2: wireless chargers throttle themselves for temperature management
3: you'll only achieve better results with compatible chargers from the same vendor
4: wireless charging is impractical for most people, inefficient and all but "wireless"
Buy a nice thick Anker USB C 3.1 gen 2 cable and stop worrying about gimmicks, I get close to 3amp on screen off and that's connected to my motherboard, the benefits of the fastest power and data delivery at the same time.
Soooo, i dont have the setting for fast wireless charge. Wonder why not.

Sure it is, I never said you were not supposed to post, the same as my post where I also indicate, that it is better to go for products develop by the manufacturer of the phone. One saving you the cost of damaging your phone. 2. Saving you the cost to then after buying something from another company wasting double because you need to buy the appropriate charger or cable to your phone.

Yeah, not there for me. I did find wired fast charge setting. Wonder why no setting for wireless fast charge.

I don't have that option, I do on the Galaxy S10 plus I have to send back because the LTE doesn't work but on this one it's just not there. It option should be above 'Bixby Routines'
