Disable Wide Angle Shots

Ok we all have the same phone and the same lense front and back
This is specifically for the FRONT camera ... we all know the pictures are distorted ... its squashed from the center and appears long at the edges...
owing to the fact that it has a Wide Angle Lense
Which looks very bad during selfies
We cant change the lense as its a hardware part.
But is there an app .. or can we develop an app that corrects the distortion created by the wide lense and give us a straigt propotional shot ?
Im uploading a picture from another website showing the distortion of the lense. its not my own pic.
As im into Bodybuilding and also i take a lot of selfies ... my pictures look weird on my phone compared to my friends. My body looks normal on friends phone whereas it looks out of propotion on mine.
Lets discuss this ... cause im seriously considering a iPhone 6 over this phone now. but obv im falling back cause of budget issues.

I doubt there will be any way to fix it if it is the lens itself, if it's firmware, custom ROMs might be able to do it, Xposed Framework etc
No idea how though, I had noticed I looked like Bruce Forsyth a while back, but never took much notice as I don't use the front camera for much more than daft pics on whatsapp anyway

Camera defect? Blue spot in photo when there's a bright light source

I've searched around and there's a short mention here or there, and I'm not sure if I should exchange my new S7 because it's actually quite an annoying problem that I've not noticed on my S6 or Nexus phones before this S7.
When I take a photo with the camera facing a bright light source, eg the sun or a bright light at night, there is a blue spot that appears in the picture. I know it's a limitation of modern smartphone cameras, and it's likely a lens refraction or reflection, but it really does take away from the photo if I'm taking one of a beautiful sunset or even a cityscape at night. LIke I said, it's the first time I've noticed this in any of my cellphone cameras. I've tested similar exposure in my friends' S5 and they have the spot too. Even my backup windows phone has this.
Do ALL cameras have this? Are there any S7 owners here who don't have this problem? If there are S7s without this problem, then I'm ok with exchanging the phone for a new one hoping for one without this. I'ts kinda a buzz kill for me on such a fantastic phone otherwise.

I have the same problem with my phone. When I take a pic of candles, there is also some kind of purple halo around the flame. I read somewhere that it is because of the lack of IR filter on the lens.
I agree with the fact that this is really annoying for a phone of that price

first problem is lense flare, it depends on optics design and is normal!
second issue (purple halo) is ir radiation not properly filtered, due to probably lacking IR filter.
this is an issue long present in mobile cam history, although there are and were mobiles with proper filtering cam modules existing...

Thanks guys, as expected, i figured it is a 'normal' thing, but it still drives me nuts. I'm still hoping to hear from more people, since misery loves company in the event that some actually say they don't have this, i might exchange my phone for another to try my luck.

Can you use the wide angle (back) camera to take selfies?

Hi all - it sounds like the front (selfie) camera does not take the best pics.
One of the uses I wanted for the G6 is to use the back camera (the wide angle one) to take selfies instead.
I won't be able to see the screen, but with the wide angle lens, I don't really need to do much framing I'm guessing.
The only thing that I'm concerned about is the lack of auto focus and if the wide angle camera can focus on subjects about 1 metre away from them.
Does anyone have a G6 who could comment / or post a sample pic of this? This is pretty much the dealbreaker for me to get this phone.

Yes. Front facing camera is not as good as it should be. Specially in low light situation...
This, and lack of LED notification light are the biggest flaw to me
Back cameras takes good selfies though. I don't have any problem with framing or autofocus. Does a good job with defocusing background and shaking effect is at minimum thanks to new image stabilizing system.

Someone here at xda calculated that all things between 35cm and infinity are in Focus for the wide angle camera.
I also made some tests and I think that he is not totaly wrong with his 35cm.
So taking selfies should be ok.

Lens flare similar to issues with the Pixel camera

I just got my brand new S8+ USA Unlocked version today. Been playing with it, getting it set up, and was taking some pictures outside while sitting (parked) in my vehicle.
It's very bright and sunny here in Tulsa today, but I'm parked under an overpass, so I'm in shade. I was not intentionally talking pictures of my legs, but was looking down as I was looking at settings, and I noted the image looked very foggy. Actually I received the dirty lens notification, but I had just wiped the lense off with microfiber. I confirmed it was clean, but the image was still foggy.
I took my case off just in case and no change. That when I noticed it. A semi circle of light around the edge of the picture. Identical to the lens flare WIDELY reported in the Pixel camera.
Now I know, all lenses have flare, and the software, filter, processors, etc eliminate it, but it was such a huge deal with the Pixel.
I know this was not a normal lighting condition, shaded area with a bright background, but honestly it was only during similar scenes that I would see the flare on my Pixel.
I'll check my wife's phone to see if hers also flares, but my guess is that it will.
Anyone else noticed this?

The second image I posted is darker and clearer because I used the auto correct in editing. It originally looked just like the first.

Never noticed any lens flares on my phone, but the pixel's lens flare is much worse, see if you get it in other situations.

I'll definitely keep an eye on it. I didn't think the Pixels was that bad or any worse then this one, and I've used the Pixel XL for the last six months.

My finger was nowhere near the lens and I had just wiped it clean with a microfiber cloth. There were no fingerprints or smudges on it.

Camera white balance issues

Howdy, a quick question. Has anybody noticed with the Mate 9 camera that the colors get quite over saturated (especially the skin color) when the photo is taken under artificial light (i.e. incandescent or fluorescent)?
I've had the Mate 9 now about a week and otherwise the great camera really struggles with the white balance in certain lighting conditions.
My previous phone was Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the camera took some really really good photos.

I noticed more general difficulties of all kind of digital cameras with artificial light. Especially with led or energy-saving bulbs or even fluorescent tubes, ranging from focussing problems over incorrect white balance and saturation to some kind of miscolored yellowish waves.

I have almost the same problem. Photos are useless in bright light. whenever there is bright white color the camera cannot handle it. the result is a photo taken with very cheap camera. useless. Anyone know how to fix it? is it a software or hardware problem?

Never got issues with white objects even on artificial light...! Camera performing well... No blur

I have two Mate 9 here. Both cameras working very well in a way that I sometimes let my Nex at home. They do not better than the Nex but good enough. I have the impression that the one with Nougat works better than Oreo in dark situations, pictures have less noise.
White coloured objects are no problem at all.
