Strange reboots after OTA - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

Has anyone else had this issue? I got an OTA last night around midnight, and it has rebooted itself in the middle of use twice today.

Nope

Any idea of what the OTA actually installed?

I have no clue

I'm having the same issue. Phone has rebooted 3 times today.

What version did the OTA bring your phone up to? PB4??

G935vvrs2apb4

I had sync.me installed as a way to get profile pics in contacts. I uninstalled it yesterday and it hasn't rebooted since. Seemed like it was over working the phone. Carbonad, do you have sync.me?

My Note 5 and S7 Edge reboot itself at least once a day minimum. My Note 5 reboots more than the S7 Edge, though. Also, my S7 Edge likes to vibrate when there's no notifications, button presses, or even screen touches - along with the screen turning on whenever it wants to. Yet the battery still lasts forever. I also get false touches quite a bit (mentioned in another thread by another user).
Samsung FTW. Still not as many problems as I hear all of my family and friends complaining about with their beloved iPhone. But my Samsung is "far from superior"? Lolz.
All phones matter.

I never had a smartphone that would randomly and regularly reboot itself. The fact that both of yours do that seems like an odd coincidence to me. You think maybe it's an app you have installed on both devices that could be the culprit? If my phones were doing that I would have them replaced because that's not normal. BTW, I have the overly sensitive screen issue on my S7 Edge but apparantly it's the nature of the beast. I went to both Best Buy and a Verizon store and played around with their display models. They all seem about the same. So I guess it's something you have to adjust to. I'm still looking forward to a fix in a firmware update though.

I'm not totally sure what it would be cause by on the Note 5. It started after the first Marshmallow update. I can't do an OTA because it's no longer on a carrier, so I'm not sure if any updates (if released) would fix it or not. I do use Nova Prime on it for a launcher, and the device has a fair amount of apps and is loaded with widgets on 3 screens (including the home screen).
The S7 Edge doesn't do the reboots anymore since the 2nd Marshmallow update, so that's no longer an issue. After today's update, the phone isn't waking randomly anymore, so the screen is turning on randomly. I also haven't been experiencing the vibrate issue either. The device appears to be a lot more stable than previously, too.
I assume its a mixture of updates through firmware and apps that cause the issues I was experiencing, but it's difficult to say.
I only experience an "overly sensitive screen" when I play Clash of Clans and hold my finger in one spot on the screen - it'll start shaking as if I was moving my finger slightly in different directions. I just checked now and it doesn't do that anymore, so that may have been fixed.
I haven't been able to update the Note 5 yet, nor am I to worried about it at this point, so I can't confirm any changes on that device.
However, the S7 Edge of mine is preforming exceptionally today. Much better than it was even preforming this morning pre-update.

That's good that your S7 issue is resolved. Maybe Samsung is aware of some of the screen issues and is working on it with updates. As far as your Note 5, you can probably find the latest firmware on Sammobile.

I spoke too soon as most of the issues came back again.
Not sure what the problem is, but oh well.
There's been a problem with every phone I've purchased - HTC Hero, HTC Evo3D, Galaxy S4, Note 3, Note 4, Note 5, and S7 Edge.
The difference is that I was able to install custom ROM's on those older devices.
It's always something. That's how it goes.

I know that feeling. At the suggestion of a Verizon tech, I ran the Verizon repair assistant program in an attempt to fix my over sensitive touch screen issue. When I ran the program my phone was working normal without the screen sensitivity problem. I blabbed it on the forums I found a fix. The following day was screen was back to acting up. I would have returned the phone if I knew the fix was only temporary. By waiting that one more day I was one day past my 14 day return window. I'm getting use to the way it is. I have to be overly cautious to prevent inadvertently opening apps and links.
If someone can show me a forum about an Android device where there is no one talking about their device lags or sucks for a variety of issues, I would like to know. There are always going to people with issues. Some may be user induced, some a design flaw and others just a defective unit.

Here's what is causing the random screen-on:
http://androidforums.com/threads/samsung-s7-screen-keeps-turning-on-randomly.1014655/page-2
Turns out to be the Verizon Message+ App.
After disabling that app, I no longer have that issue.
The screen, however, is still pretty... (sensitive?). There are times where the phone will act as if I tapped the screen, but I never even touched it; resulting in a clicked link, webpage moving, etc... A bit irritating, but isn't causing too much of a hassle.
In conclusion, every phone will always have a defect. Lol.
------------------edit 1
ADDED: After disabling Message+ my charge light no longer works. Always something.
------------------edit 2
My notification light no longer works at all. Lol. I give up.

With the second update, Samsung has solved the problems of lag?
Samsung has released the second update for this tablet (Note 10.1 2014),
It is true that is fine as butter?
No more problems with lag?
Everything is as smooth as we would like?
The PDF with lots of data and photos
move perfect?
A greeting
The second update screwed up my SGN pretty bad. It black screens, apps won't update, wifi is spotty, web pages won't load, tablet won't unlock properly and when it does, it does to black screen. For this having such high specs, it runs slower than my N7 2012 on half the stuff. At least Apex works well so I don't have the lag but over all I wish I would have never bought this tablet. I wish I would have waited for the Dell Venue Pro 8. In fact with Nokia really producing some great phones and Windows 8.1 fixing most of the issues I had with Win8, this will probably be the last Android device I ever own. I have a Nokia 928 and it is heads above any Android phone I have ever owned from quality to speed to camera and now with the 1520 coming out (929 for Verizon) coupled with a real proc that can run full W8.1 in the new Atom, I can't see why I would accept so many compromises from Android anymore. While I love the stylus capability of my Note, I have major buyers remorse.
I have had the exact opposite experience of the person above. No problems at all. This tablet has been one of the best pieces of tech that I have bought in a while.

Did you get the second update yet? It was about 9mb and I got it on mine about 4 or 5 days ago? I'm just wondering if I have a faulty model or if I just need to do reset (talk about a pain in the arse). Before this last update my tablet was awesome.

TheBigSaxon my friend, I see that your tablet works perfectly,
does not have the lag that everyone comments?
how about from this second update?
Read the friend ajamudc and do not want to buy this tablet

i saw 0 difference in each update. i held on to the original firmware for a week before upgrading and no significant increase or decrease in performance.
rooting did nothing either, but i don't expect it to. it just allowed to to freeze crap and install some useful programs.

Yeah, I took the second update and didn't have any issues. I would try a factory reset. Maybe you got a bad download? Maybe someone else can chime in, but I haven't seen anybody else describe the issues you are describing.
I don't know what the "out of the box" performance was like. I've only had mine a few days. When I first booted it up, it prompted me to update and I went ahead. It rebooted, then prompted me to update again, and again, I went ahead and updated. So, I never used it before either update for comparison sake. But, I will say that this is the best tablet I've ever used! Before this, I had a piece of crap ASUS Transformer Infinity which I hated because it was a piece of crap. Before that I had a Galaxy Tab 10.1 (the original) which I loved and wished I had back every time I touched the ASUS. So it may just be coming from the Transformer, but the Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) feels buttery smooth to me. I love it more and, even after only a couple days, I find myself using it for much more than I ever used either of my previous tablets for.
I echo HeathicusF's experience. I never ran the Galaxy without the two updates as they downloaded as soon as I turned on the tablet. I also upgraded from the Transformer TF700 and while I didn't have the same negative feelings about the ASUS, the Galaxy is far and away superior. No lag at all, a beautiful screen and the multi window make this the best tablet I've owned or seen. I would recommend it to anyone.

This is where I feel that perception of lag is relative. I get choppiness when I pull down the notification bar often and when I hit the home button it will take a half second to go to the home screen and the fade out transition animation will be really laggy. I have a hard time believing that other people aren't getting this too, maybe they just don't notice it the same as others do.
It's just odd that there will be a thread on lag and someone will say theirs is perfect with no lag ever and others will say its terrible. I am guessing all units are the same (with the exception of a faulty one) but it's just everyone's own critical eye that is the difference. I am overall pretty happy with it, a little extra fluidity would be great though...
I'm experiencing no lag, except for the wake button taking about 2 to 3 seconds to have any effect.
The only thing I am perplexed about is that when I exit out of an app, the homescreen wallpaper is screwy. It shifts and there are black bars on either side before it settles down into the regular wallpaper look. Very annoying.
And whenever I exit out of LectureNotes, for some reason, the wallpaper is completely gone. Just black space.
I'm not sure if I'm just not as picky as others but after the 1st and 2nd update this thing is pretty fast to me. The only thing I do see that others have mentioned is that sometimes it may take a second or two to wake from lock. But I now have a case with the wake upon opening the cover thing so it's ready to go by the time I have the cover flipped to the back. No biggie

it's all about how you use it. i used to use feedly as my rss reader but switched back to the old reader since i prefer using a tabbed browser vs an app (i know i can use feedly's full web, but i've gotten to like the old reader). on ff, i get minor stuttering as it marks articles read, on chrome it's bad tot he point that i give up. if i turn it portrait the lag goes away. in neither orientation is it as smooth as my gn8, gn2, or s4 and this is supposed to be a more powerful product (granted it does have more pixels to push).
on "normal" webistes, it's just as good as my other tablets/phones though.
@Han Solo 1: You are hiding the system bar in LectureNotes, aren't you? That a static wallpaper gets reset is a known issue when hiding the system bar in newer Android versions. To my knowledge, there is no fix. Curiously, the wallpaper recovers if you reboot, and a live wallpaper is not affected.
it seems there are different opinions
there who is going perfectly and without lag
and others who do very bad and many lag
I'm about to buy
(I once had the Note 10.1.'s have sold)
I do not know if the Nexus wait 10
I'm not experiencing any lag after the two updates. Notification bar is fine even if I choose to open and close it endlessly for whatever reason. I think some you guys should hard reset, or stop installing garbage apps I dunno. I just don't believe in all these lag posts, sorry.

I don't believe it either. Everything single-window is super smooth for me. Now if I multitask with lecture notes and ezpdf there is some lag which is kind of annoying but about the same as it was on my old note 10.1. Still waiting for someone to rom this thing down the road. Might root soon instead just to get rid of all the worthless samsung bloat.
Yeah it is bloated via Samsung for sure. I've watched hd movies while surfing, I've been gaming the latest being Dead Trigger 2 and it's been great. I want to root to remove some bloat and hope someone gets the old multi window hack to add all programs. I cannot recommend this tablet enough....
I got to test a 16GB white version for 45 "whole" minutes. Must admit I noticed lag with the UI, but none when using apps. The lag went away when using Nova. Besides some UI lag, the tablet is faster than the Tegra 4's tested. Easily the fastest for game emulators. The UI is IMO the issue here. Should be stock Android, IMO.
I want one of these, but would get the 32gb version, so $636 counting tax. Boo! I like my Nook HD+ 32GB, but this is WAY better. Just not $450 better (cost difference between the two).
This makes my iPad 4 less appealing now, since even faster for apps and same display love. If I could have only one tablet though, it would now be the Sammy 2014.

Lg G4 Canadian variant H812 touchscreen issues

Hi, I have looked through the threads but haven't found info, wanted to see what fellow Canadian owners have done in regards to the touchscreen issue. Also wanted to add this thread as to show another variant having issues, Rogers was unaware until I called them and they saw xda threads. They were helpful but unfortunately advised have to wait for LG to send an update. I have tried all of the suggestions for the other variant phones including installing SGS touchscreen booster and unfortunately nothing helped. Have the Rogers variant and was wondering if others have found a solution temporarily. Rogers hasn't received the lg keyboard update yet. Thanks all.

I'm on Rogers, and SGS fixed my issues. All the US carriers are releasing updates as we speak, so I can only assume the Canadian carriers will follow soon. LG is getting returns because of this issue, so you can bet they will be all over a fix.
As for Rogers being unaware of the issue...that's bull. They always say that. Rogers knows.

Thanks for the reply. Awesome to hear SGS worked for you. Did you do anything else, developer options etc? I will perform another factory reset and try again. Hope I can get it working, pain in the arse having the missing touches. Hopefully rogers does it sooner than later.
OP, there's another post for CDN models here. LINK
I am also experience pretty annoying touch screen issues, and I can't even exchange with WIND since they claim they're out of stock.

I didn't change anything in my developer options (other than disabling all animations). My Touchscreen issues weren't bad to begin with, and I DO NOT use the stock keyboard. Both of those are most likely why SGS helped me.
Thx for the info guys, I will read through the cdn section and start using swift key with sgs.
I think this whole issue is overrated. Yes, I get the occasional miss but so what? Same thing has happened with every smart phone I've owned. Maybe I didn't tap hard enough, maybe I did. But why does the occasional miss get people's knickers in such knots. It has virtually no effect on the user experience with this great phone.

I wouldn't say that. You might not be getting the issue as others are. Apparently it's pretty bad with some phones.
If you didn't know, the LG G2 had a huge issue with its touchscreen where the top portion of the screen stopped working, edge to edge, so people couldn't tap on anything in that portion of the screen.
The G3 also had its issues and now G4. LG clearly needs to change their touchscreen/digitizers and use someone else's if they're incapable of reliability.
Anyways, I was coming here to start a new thread and ask if someone tried the version from Wind to see if it has the touchscreen issue before I buy the phone. Thank you to the person who mentioned it !!

It might not be too apparent for other people, but on mine it's been getting worse. Someone mentioned before that it actually seems issues get worse as the phone gets hotter.
Not sure how much of that is true, but it kills the experience for me.

I have WIND one, and the issue is there.
It started off being hardly noticed now and could seem to be my mistake. Now it's much worse and every other swipe registers as a type, taps are missing around 50 - 60%. Can't get it exchanged either since WIND claims their sold out of G4's in the GTA region, with an exception of one return for an S6.
Not entirely sure I will keep my G4 as much as I love it.

I think going for the S6 is the best choice. I'm considering the 3 phones, M9, g4, s6. S6 seems to be the least buggy, as usual. M9 has its hardware issues or I'd get it.

Honestly every phone has it's quirks, by no means will your S6 have no chance of issues. You can check out the S6 forum on XDA for more info.
Even with that being said, this LG G4 touch screen issue seems pretty big IMO in comparison to the number of issues on the S6.
Apart from Touchscreen issues, are you guys getting the Wi-fi issue?

To be fair, some of those aren't real issues that ONLY affect the S6.
"Overheating" seems like almost a loose term as people complain about their phones getting hot, but it happens to nearly every android phone.
Lagging "issue" seems to be something people will always complain about with every new phone for some reason, heck there's even post about it here.
"Horrid battery life" isn't really that bad. Yes the G4 is better, but even then people still complain about having a issues with it.
I still think having touch screen issues is the worse, especially since the updates for the US seemed to have fixed it for some while others are still plagued by it.
It leaves me in a state indecisiveness where I love this phone and want to believe it can be fixed via software or I should just cut my losses and exchange to an S6 while I can.
I agree with you. Overheating is going to be an issue for any high end phone going forward, because processors keep getting more powerful (with no active cooling), and phones keep getting thinner. Overheating is also subjective. Most people feel their phone getting warm and assume it's overheating. If it doesn't warn you and start throttling, it's not overheating.
Battery life is totally subjective as no two users are the same. Screen on time is the worst way to measure battery life. Someone surfing the net is going to get a lot more screen on time than someone gaming and watching 4k videos.
LG G4 Touch screen issue is present in Canada as well
I am reposting my reply on this Canadian thread:
To all Canadian LG G4 buyers, the touch screen problem is alive and present in Canada as well. I bought a Wind Mobile LG G4, everything was fine at first but once I plugged it into the charger, it started to to miss touches and being unresponsive (the touches won’t register on the first try) the good test is when you double tap to wake or sleep OR when you go to phone’s setting and touch “about phone” or something else and it misses the first touch. It SHOULD NOT miss any touches, period. I put it next it to my LG G3 and on my LG G3 double tap to wake and sleep worked every time and no missed touches in the phone setting either, when it was plugged into the charger.. but it didn’t work on LG G4 which is unacceptable for $700 phone, once again it only happens when you PLUGGED IT in to the charger, if its disconnected it works fine. I returned that phone

A few bugs after a week of usage

So I am trying the Samsung promo for a month and have been using the device for a week now. Here is my initial thoughts- complains/kudos/rants:
1. I still freaking hate Touchwiz. Its ugly, too complex and still has a lot of bloat. I am using touchwiz after 2-3 years now and I still feel its extremely ugly.
2. Samsung has really turned it around with the hardware. It feel premium, battery life is good and screen is stunning. The camera is probably the best out there.
3. I have noticed the small bezzles on the side causes the apps to open when I dont want to use them. This gets really annoying.
4. S-pen as actually not that bad and I use it quite a bit.
5. When the phone is locked and away, I have noticed the notification don't come up right away. I have seen Whatsapp and email notifications come in really late and show up only when I opened the app. Thought it was weird.
6. The finger print unlock works great all the time.
TLDR- Someone please make a Note 5 with Stock Android running.
I had the AT&T variant for a little over a week and took it back to the store. I found that when travelling out of state no one could hear me talk until I rebooted the phone. The same thing happened when I returned home. It also has major issues with 5ghz wifi that my HTC One M7 doesn't have. There were a few other glitches that required a reboot to clear up but I don't remember what they were at this point. It was a blistering fast phone, but I need something more reliable. I feel like if I could have rooted the thing I'd have been able to fix it. Now I'm just waiting for my chance to buy the n920i 64gb model and I'll try it again.
I get black screens sometimes. No button response for a moment. anyone facing the same issue?

numerous issues with S7 Edge --- general unhappiness...

I've had my S7 Edge since release on the Rogers network and I should have known from previous Samsung experiences I've had (S2 and Note 3) but I find the system pretty buggy. Before I go all impulsive and trade this thing off on a local buy and sell site for a Sony Z5 Premium... any tips to maybe help these issues I'm having?
My last phone was a Z3 which I had for almost 2 years and never had issues with until the end when suddenly the hardware antenna stopped working. (I think water ingress as it was after I left it on my balcony table in the rain by accident)
- Battery life is very bad compared to the Z3. My Z3, no charger and I would go from 5:30am off charge to 9:00pm with 30% left. My S7 Edge, with the same usage (maybe even less as I now work in a better coverage area with constant Wifi support) is dead by 2:00pm if I don't throw it on the charger.
- Text notifications don't come in. I just had my phone after I plugged it in an hour ago get 10 notifications for text messaging... all from Friday! The messages showed as in my inbox from Friday, but I just got notification today. I didn't even know they were there. I also didn't get a voicemail notification until just a minute ago that was left last night (and cleared last night)
- Sometimes it hangs when I try to make a call. Either it will disconnect after 30+ seconds and go back to the home screen. When this happens I cannot make or receive calls until I reboot.
- Multiple people have asked why my phones off or why they can't get through to me. Phone just doesn't ring. Will need to reboot to get it to take calls again. I'm also in good signal strength areas
- gets stupid hot pretty regularly. even when its not on the charger, fresh boot, fresh cache clear.
- Sometimes just freezes then says battery is dead even though I just took it off the charger an hour or two prior. have to put it back on charger for at least 10 minutes until it will turn back on.
- Sometimes randomly reboots
- Sometimes randomly will freeze (I've woken up to see the edge screen display to show 3:40am and it's 5:30
I've tried uninstalling and going fresh on the OS straight out the box and going 2 weeks without installing any apps and it still gives me all of the above.
Wow sine issues there for sure! I can't say I've ever had any of these issues which makes me think you've got a faulty handset. Have you tried an emergency recovery from Kies PC software?

I have got it recently and i also face some of these issues.. also find that home button or power button often need to press twice or thrice in order to wake the phone ..wish it had double tap to screen on/off feature or had finger print at back for easy unlocking...
previous huawei p9 was very speedy compare to laggy s7 edge..having regret that i sold p9 and paid more money for this **** fragile phone
Well y'all can just complain all this issues which didnt happen once to my device, this is just an isolated case

Those with the issues, are you using the Qualcomm S7 Edge?

Just root and install a new ROM.

Got a bunch of these issues compared to the Z3 as well. Root and flash fixed it though, including running power nap. the ui drops a few frames sometimes but not biggy, battery life and everything else is fine with the fixes (the sony rom never ever drop frames even thus the z3 is a much older and slower device)
The Sony stock rom is just much, much better than the samsung stock roms. I swapped to sony after the galaxy S3 and though samsung got its act together when I swapped back to the galaxy S7.. nothing changed.
I suspect my next phone will be back to Sony
Sounds like Sony fanboyism and lack of understanding on how a Samsung handset works. You have a faulty model, but don't assume a Sony is simply better just because you have a duff device.

I havent had any of the issues you have listed above. I've had the edge since July and am really happy with it. I came from a Sony Z2 which was rooted and had custom ROM's on it and compared to the Z2 (Which is pretty identical to the Z3) I love it.
I am a bit worried about warranty so have not rooted the edge, but to be honest after believeing i could never live with a non-rooted phone, I am happy with it in its stock form!

Please educate me on how a Samsung handset works differently. if there is something I am doing wrong in comparison I would love to know as there is quite a few things I do enjoy about the device. I use the edge screen and dock a lot, I enjoy the better quality speakers, I do love the wireless charging... for example.
I'm comparing to the Z3 as I had it for 2 years, loved it, and never had an issue with it until it died on me (failed water seal I think). I have had multiple issues with multiple Samsung devices, so maybe it is something in how I operate it in comparison. I do enjoy the mostly naked feel of Sony though, quite a bit.
I'm not saying Sony is not without it's problems, I did have gripes with the Z3. But overall it was way more reliable than any Samsung device I've ever owned. Which is odd for me because I usually have nothing but problems with Sony products that aren't called a Playstation.
Not trying to troll, actually looking for information.
I had used Sony phones for some years (zr, z3 compact, z5 compact) then switched to Samsung s7 edge. I'm very happy with the switch. I see disadvantages in having a much larger phone but this is a different discussion. The Samsung works fine, it's much smoother than the Sony, it's not laggy, does not heat as much, battery lasts a long time (z3 compact was pretty good too). I really think you have a broken unit.

All of these symptoms sound to me like you either have a cell dead spot at your home or the phone's antenna isn't working properly. Your phone will constantly try to make a better cell connection if it can't find a good one, which will wear down the battery and cause the phone to heat up. I've seen it with both my Note 4 and my S7e.
The other problems (texts don't come in immediately, people try to call but your phone doesn't ring, calls simply end without connecting) all sound exactly like my problem when I had a cell dead spot at my house. I had AT&T send my a Microcell and all those issues went away.
Now if you haven't seen those problems before then it might not be a dead spot. Which is why I mentioned that the phone's antenna might be bad. It also sounds like this happens when you're not at home, which would back up that theory. I'd take it back and say it's defective and see if they'll exchange it out for another.

S10+ keeps freezing + fingerprint sensor issues

Hey guys,
so I got my s10+ about a week ago and I was actually very happy with it. But about 3 days ago my s10+ froze and ever since freezes multiple times during the day. It most often happens when I'm trying to use it while I'm on the phone via bluetooth headset. Also since about the same amount of time my fingerprint sensor is super buggy and I have to retry multiple times to get to unlock it. I've paid nearly 900€ for this device so that's both very annoying.
Does anyone else has the same issues that I have? Especially the freezing part?

Have you taken any system updates since you've had it? If so, I'd likely try a full reset of the phone although I know it's a pain but it does help sometimes. I haven't noticed a lot of chatter about freezing exceot for the Chinese Snapdragon rooting bunch.
Yeah, at day one I took the update that was available and also checked for new. I'll try the full reset. But it's weird that I'm the only one that seems to have this problem...
