APN and Data issue? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi guys, my S7 Edge is working beautifully, the only problem that I have is that right now for Spring Break I'm staying over at my mom's place, and the data here sucks. Although, it says I have 4G LTE with 3-4 bars, some online games say I have no data, and websites take forever to load. I was thinking about changing my APN from my old phone over to this one, but I'm not sure if that would make it worse? I remember reading these forums in anticipation while I was waiting for my phone to arrive, and I remember someone had mentioned something about changing an "IPV4 to IPV6"? However, when I checked, mine is already switched to IPV6? Not sure if that will make a difference or not...any suggestions?
Edit: I'm on T-Mobile by the way.

Not many ISP's support IPv6 in my country, I read about your issue too but my conclusion was you should disable IPv6 and just let it run on IPv4. Only thing I don't know is if you do this change in your phone or on your router. If you are sure your ISP supports IPv6 than ignore my comments.
btw, I thought IPv4/6 has to do with Wifi only, not 4G or LTE.

I thought the contrary lol. I thought it had to do with 4G or LTE, which is why I was confused when you mentioned about me having to change something in my router Hopefully other people can shed light on this as well

[Q] G2 on AT&T Won't load anything

First off, yes, I am a noob, and I love the video you guys have to welcome us noobs to the forum
Second, I understand COMPLETELY that the G2 on AT&T does NOT support 3G.
Third I understand it DOES support edge (or 2G from the iPhone world as that is where I come from)
Now, Even though I have full signal in edge, but NO wifi, I cannot load a web page in the browser. In fact, I cannot connect to the internet whatsoever. I can send texts and make phone calls, but no internet. Is there some hack that I need to do to enable it? Could it be because I'm using a micro sim for an iPhone 4?
Thanks!
You need to edit the APN settings for AT&T.
I don't know what they are offhand
True, you need to manually enter the APN settings for the phone to work on AT&T's data network. The APN is found under Settings>Wireless & networks>Mobile networks>Access point names
The proper settings are here:
http://android.modaco.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=309124&view=findpost&p=1281824
However, this does not explain why WiFi does not work. Not sure what's going on there.
Heh such a simple answer. I was trying to figure it out for 3 hours straight. Thanks guys, this forum's the best already
Now for some rooting heh

Welcome to the forums. You made a good choice for your first Android phone. The G2 has it all, including massive developer support.
Thanks for the APN. Editting this would only make Edge work?

In the case of the G2 on AT&T, yes. The G2 does not have the correct radio hardware to be compatible with AT&T's network. But if the correct hardware is present, the APN info allows you to connect to EDGE and 3G for your particular network.

SM-N9005 - No 4G LTE.

Hello guys. I have a long story for you, but I am just gonna keep it very short.
I've had trouble with 4G LTE on TWO Galaxy Note 3's.
I got my first one about 4 months ago, then I got a new device about 1 month exactly because of 4G not working.
However, it is still not working.
My first phone was 100% stock, never rooted and never played with. So was my 2nd phone, and LTE still didn't work. However, it's rooted with CM11 nightly with temasek kernel on it right now, and still no 4G LTE.
I've talked a lot with my carrier (Telenor DK, Denmark) and they sent me a new SIM-card, which did not work help with the missing LTE either. I just called them again today and they double checked everything and told me that I was totally ready to go with 4G LTE.
(The location is not the problem as I've been VARIOUS places with no connection to 4G.)
All the network options are as they should be, etc. However there is still NO 4G LTE.
I then started to read on a lot of posts from this forum, and I may have come to the conclusion that my phone has different frequencies or different LTE bands than my country has? I'm not sure, but I THINK that my carrier (Telenor Denmark) uses 800mhz band.
I don't know if Cat4 is some american only standard or so? I'm not sure, I hope you guys can help.
This is what it says on the box: http://i.imgur.com/JLSrR0b.jpg?1
There is also the european certifcation sticker on the front: http://i.imgur.com/jTxqtzS.jpg?1
You won't be able to see it, but it is a shiny/glittering sticker that says "Approved for Nordic Operators" and as you might have guessed, I live in Denmark.
And at last, some screenshots of the phone: http://imgur.com/a/IHs5N - As you can see, LTE and everything is checked.
I'm not really sure what I can do more. I hope you guys have any idea of what the cause of me not being able to have 4G LTE network.
Many thanks!

Thanks for your reply.
I should have mentioned, that I already tried to play with exact these settings, without luck.
However, I did it again since it had been a long time, and sadly again no luck.
The APN settings seems to be correct set up by default.
EDIT: I have a feeling it's because my LTE radio doesn't run the right frequency/mhz. Is there anyway that I can check if that's the problem?
And for clarity, I have never seen the 4G logo on my phone. My connection is 3G / H+ 50/50 of the time.

Telenor Denmark uses 1800Mhz for its LTE network so it should be compatible as you are using a Note 3 N9005 as listed on GSMArena Note 3.

Okay thanks! great to have that out of the way.
Now, I'm just asking out of curiousity.
What does the Cat4 on the box in the LTE section mean? Could it be anything with that?
Does that mean Band 4? .. Because it looks like Telenor uses band 3? Now. I have no idea what I am talking about and if this really matters, but please correct me if I am wrong.
EDIT: Also, my phone has a 4G logo on the back of the slim case you get with it. I've heard some people say that it's only the american models that get these?
It looks like this: http://goo.gl/UUJXCK - It says 4G in the middle where it says Galaxy Note 3 on this one.
EDIT: Pictures of my DEFAULT APN settings.

I believe Cat 4 is just a hardware standard indicating peak datarates.
Try selecting the mms apn rather than the internet one and see if that changes anything.
I had a similar issue with Telus not receiving internet till i switched from the isp.telus apn to sp.telus apn.
Worth a shot i guess.

Thanks a lot for your help. Well I can't select the Telenor DK MMS like I can select the internet one. If you look at the picture there is a blue check mark at the internet one which the mms one doesn't have. If I click on the MMS one it just takes me to the settings. I hope it makes sense. Thanks.

Oh, ummm.
You could try to edit the internet one to be identical to the mms settings. If anything, you can just revert it back to the internet settings if it doesn't help.

I have tried to do that multiple times without any luck at all.
I will try to do it in a few minutes just in case, however it never seems to help. The only thing that happens is that my mobile connection drops for about 20 seconds then comes back as the usual 3G / H+.
EDIT: I played around with the APN settings again, for about 1 hour, still with no luck.
So I'm stuck here as of now. I've tried everything mentioned in this thread and nothing works.
I am not sure what is wrong. I hope any of you might have more possible solutions for my LTE problem on my SM-N9005.
Thanks.

I'm sure that your APN settings are wrong... they are wrong by default sometimes. 2G and 3G is working for you, right? If yes, than it's the problem with settings. Try to copy APN setting from someone who has a phone with working 4G ( and is the same carrier as you ).

I've been thinking the same. Perhaps I'm doing it wrong or something, because I've tried to change the settings so much. I don't have access to a 4G phone on the same carrier, neither does any of my friend use my carrier (atleast I think so) - so I will do some more internet research.
Again, thanks a lot for your help, friend!
EDIT: I've found some totally different Telenor APN settings than I've ever seen before. I'm not sure if they're old or not, but I'll definitely try now and report back.

Then try to call your carrier service, and request that they tell you all of APN settings. Try every one of them. I had exactly the same problem, they were sending me bad APN settings. They were also telling me that everything is good on their side with network, and that my phone is broken. So don't believe them, you probably know more about technology than 90% of workers there

I tried with the ones I found, and they do not work.
I took your advice and tried to call them once again, but what they told me is already what the default APN is, like in my pictures from my previous post.
I'm still lost without LTE.

I don't know if your telco does this but Telstra in Australia will send a system message that will save the correct APN settings into your phone. This can be initiated by you through their internet site, no call center staff to stuff things up... You receive the message like a normal sms but when prompted install and save...
Might be worth a shot to either ask to be sent the settings or see if they do the same on their website... You might be lucky...

It seems like they do not offer such service. However I looked at some APN setup guide on their website, and it is 100% identical to what my APN's look like.
Hmm. As stated before, 3G and HSPDA, HSPDA+ works perfectly. But no 4G/LTE. Never.
I'm sorry for double posting, but I've got some news. (I think.)
So, someone told me that I should try to dial *#*#4636#*#* and put up screenshots of it, so I figured out that I should put them here too.
So when I dailed *#*#4636#*#*, I got to this screen: http://i.imgur.com/nvEQqUF.png
I then chose phone information, and I got here: http://i.imgur.com/TTPAHw5.png - Notice that H+ is working fine.
Then I tried to select LTE only, and this happened: http://imgur.com/eNfl4xk - No signal from LTE at all.
I'm not sure if this is anything new, but I thought I'd show it here too.
Thanks.
EDIT: Okay, so I've made some further investigation and some people tell me that I might have the wrong CSC number for my country. However, I have no idea what that means really. Is it possible for me to "flash" the
correct CSC number onto my phone or something like that?
EDIT: I'm going to flash STOCK Nordic 4.4.2 ROM and solve the issue there, I've heard some talking about I should do that first. I will report back if I find my solution. Thanks.
Hello again.
I haven't really been doing anything to search further, but I am still left with no LTE, the flash of the 4.4.2 stock nordic rom did not help.
Just thought I'd give a little update.

My Nexus 6P Pandora Loading Problem Fixed with APN Settings

Alright let me start off by saying that I just got this phone today! So far it's been pretty good I was using a OnePlus One prior so the experience is similar just lest customization than CyanogenMod lol.
Anywho, my OPO used a micro sim card not a nano so I had to go buy one from T-Mobile after that I popped that sucker in and expected everything to work flawlessly... That was not the case though. At first it took a bit to get my LTE signal even then my download speeds were pretty slow but with wifi I downloaded all my apps and I forgot about my LTE issue until I stepped out of the house to go for a run!
I fired up Pandora to listen to some music on my run, to my surprise after I logged in no songs were playing which I found peculiar to say the least since my data was working although it seemed a bit slow, I even googled this issue and found APN settings but it didn't fix my issue... What I figured out was in the APN protocol or IPV settings, it was set to IPV4/IPV6, I tried switching it to simply IPV4. After I saved those settings I lost data connection for a few seconds and as soon as I reconnected my Pandora started loading the music! I'm not sure how that affects data I know nothing about networking and IPV settings but all I know is that switching it to only IPV4 fixed my loading issues, much more snappy and of course my Pandora started working!
I don't know if anyone else has had this problem but all I know is that those IPV settings were stock and I simply changed it to only IPV4 to fix my issue. I hope this might help someone else!
Weird, maybe your location towers software...
I stream Pandora daily with out issues via T-Mobile LTE IPV4/IPV6 in APN.

Yeah, even weirder, my APN's default to IPv6 when I reset my phone on T-Mobile. And I have no problems with it in that mode (with everything except 1 application, and I've sent info to the developers on why it's broken).
Yeah I found it weird as well, but that was the only thing that was able to fix my issue, I was getting quite frustrated since I use Pandora almost daily and it wasn't loading. Now hearing that you guys have no trouble with your data using IPV6 I find it even more puzzling, ah oh well as long as it works haha I won't question it. Maybe a T-Mobile Issue in my area?

anyone else get slow data speeds?

My service provider isnt as slow as 500kb/s but thats all i can really get. This isnt the first OnePlus phone that has been slow on mobile data. Ive tried 3 different ones to try and get better speeds but downloading always takes forever.
Is there a fix for this problem because i see folks posting how this thing gets fast speeds on certain carriers even my own. Id like to cash in on that as well. Im in a prime area and my plan never goes over my data cap because i hardly get the speeds to do it.
Can someone shed some light on this?
Try creating your own APN. Look up some options for your carrier. I'm in the USA and on T-Mobile. When I first got the OP5 I was getting like 1-5mbps at my house when my Nexus 6P was getting 30mbps or more with the same sim card. So I started playing around with different APN's and I was fine. Once on 4.5.8 I think the regular APN was working fine. But whoever you carrier is, maybe tweaking the APN is your answer.

Thanks for the suggestion, unknowing to me my phone already had 3 different default apns to select for my carrier. Only time can tell because I never know what exactly it will do at different times or how it will behave so I guess I'll keep on keeping on until maybe something breaks or it just straight up works. thanks for the suggestion.

Depending on the rom you have it could be a few things.
OOS Rom's should just be a case of creating the correct APN for your carrier.
For example EE UK, all that's needed is NAME: Internet APN: everywhere
Menu / Save / Activate
From that point it's all ready to roll.
There are some other options on other Rom's like AOSP and LOS
For example VOLTE, NV and RUSIM, Preferred Network Mode.
So long as this is all set up correctly it should be fine.
Also try the different SIM slot and make sure to remove the not used APN's
Download Ookla's Speedtest app and test your changes.
Another thing could be that you've chosen a network manually, I always set this to automatic.
PS: Further to these points i've noticed that compared to my HTC 10, the Oneplus is nowhere near as quick in terms of connectivity, same SIM, EE UK, max i had at home on 4G+ was 157Mb where as on My Oneplus it's around 50Mb at best, which is a 3rd of the speed, bit of a drop.
I have a thread open for this in the Q+A, I'm querying Baseband, Firmware, Kernel, i think it may have something to do with it.
If you're stock then this is not something you have to worry about.
????? Anyone ????

Any fix for no data while in a call??

I realized while in a call the mobile data is gone which might be normal perhaps because it can only handle one thing through the modem......
I'm not sure, but just wanted to know if its not normal then anyone found a fix?
Thanks
Depends on the carrier, which carrier do you have?

Sounds like you changed settings to LTE only to force VoLTE without carrier support. That would be the behavior to expect under such circumstances. Not saying you did btw.

Thanks but no, I'm not forcing lte as there's no Volte here.
If there was then the problem wouldn't exist as those calls would go through mobile data and in that case the data wouldn't be cut.
Again, from what I've read around it really has to do with modem not being able to support 2 things at the same time like call (regular) + mobile data.
I just wanted to confirm more people are having this and that this behavior is kind of expected and not a glitch. As generally I have WiFi on I had never realised this until yesterday that I had WiFi off and was on a very long call and realised I couldn't access the Web at all.

In my experience (not with this device) if there is lte link when placing a call, the data would fallback on 3g network. If no lte, there will be no data at all

And you're right, it does depend on carrier, however OP never told us. Lol. My brother has US Cellular and there is no data while on voice calls. That's just how their network is.
