Rooted HD8 - Can I do a ROM backup / restore? - Fire HD 8 and HD 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently rooted my HD8 using KingRoot.
I reconfigured my HD8, and would like to backup my current installation as a working snapshot ('cause now that I'm rooted, it's only a matter of time before I bork something up!).
Is it possible to do a Nandroid backup (and, restore) of my current HD8 ROM?
Thanks,
¿GJ?

I believe you can do some kind of backup using adb backup ...

Hi,
Flashfire appears to run but has failed for me when trying to backup - just reboots device.
Just thought I would let you know.
Thanks

[Q] TWRP Boot Triangle doesn't show anymore?

I installed TWRP a couple days ago and whenever I rebooted the Kindle Fire, I saw the yellow triangle.
But now it doesn't come up anymore. Whenever I reboot it just shows the Kindle Fire boot screen.
I know TWRP is installed because in my /sdcard partition the TWRP folder is there with the backup I made.
So how do I get the TWRP boot screen to appear again?
Thanks
You might have gotten updated. Mine did the same thing. Amazon pushed the 6.2.1 update and it undid twrp and root. Just use the kf utility to redo root, twrp, and the market stuff.

Well I am rooted right now.
The last thing I flashed on TWRP was the Kindle Fire 6.2.1 Pre-Rooted Secure Boot Image when I was on v6.0.
But for some reason after I flashed the Pre-Rooted boot image, it erased my root anyway?
I rerooted later using Burrito Root.
I'm thinking that when the Pre-Rooted 6.2.1 boot image erased my root, it also uninstalled TWRP too.
But because the TWRP backup folder was in /sdcard it was kept intact since the Pre-Rooted 6.2.1 boot image only replaces the /system partition.
I don't think the pre rooted image has twrp so it got erased. You should go grab the kf utility and use that to apply root and install twrp along with market apps too.
Just check the main fire forum, the utility is at the top.

I am already rooted. So should I just get the KF Utility and reinstall TWRP?
If I do that, will it erase my current backup?
No. The backup is.on your sd card it wont be effected. How are you checking for root?

Maybe TWRP is there, but you system isn't booting FireFireFire.
Can you boot into your flashed ROM?
I can verify that neither of the pre-rooted 6.2.1 roms delete twrp or firfirefire. I used twrp to install both when I was using them and retained twrp on both occassions.
I had the same issue after an update. I used the fire util to reflash twrp. It gave an error that the twrp files already existed but still re-enabled the firefirefire bootloader.

Maybe it's because when I was done flashing the Pre-Rooted 6.2.1 ROM, I didn't wipe the dalvik cache?
Also when it asked me to reboot, I pressed Power Off instead of System?
Could that be the problem?
bump.
Still need an answer to my question before I proceed.

Did you use KFU to redo the TWRP?
will try to give you answers so much as i know and i'm thinking about it:
1. there are a lot of people where the prerouted update was overwritten by the OTA - there could be more reasons why: was allready in the cache folder or got pushed anyway - that's not really clear - but now you'r safe
2. the kfu don't overwrite firefirefire or twrp
3. the prerooted boot images don't overwrite firefirefire or twrp
if i'm wrong someone correct me
i think you can go on - good luck & much fun

KFU is the easiest way - only take care if you have burritoroot allready on your kf - unistall burritoroot first and redo with kfu - and if you have driver problems don't use the drivers from kfu - use the ones from this post:

[Q] downgrading to 4.1.2

hello guys, i want to downgrade because i am sick of 4.2.1. Due to the fact that i have a 8gb nexus 7(rooted) i am having memory shrtages and directorybind dont work on the latest version...so i have a few questions:
can i downgrade without losing data?if no....how do i backup my apps and dara
should i downgrade with wugs toolkit?
If it's not obvious already: you'll need to do a clean-wipe to downgrade. Just flash the appropriate gapps and you should be good to go. Keep in mind any custom kernels/zips you may have flashed that may not work on 4.1.2. -Use Titanium Backup to backup your user apps as some 4.2 system apps won't work on 4.1.2
Have you tried other 4.2 roms or different kernels? I used to get horrible battery drain and some performance issues with the stock rom and kernel, then I tried other options and got much better results

Please try a custom rom before all hope is lost. Try Rootbox
first of all i have never flashed a custom rom or kernel
secondly if i backup all my games and apps with TB when i restore it in 4,1,2 will it work properly?....as i have seen people complaining that after restoring they were stuck in bootloop...
...is there any custom roms that support directory bind or any other ways that allow playing games from usb stick?

what are GAPPS?
where can i find the appropriate gapps for 4.1.2?
can i use these steps to downgrade : http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/articles/4...-stock-android412-android42-jellybean-ota.htm
This is what I would do:
Backup your desired apps using Titanium Backup
Install the factory 4.1.2 image using the instructions here
Root your device and restore the apps using TB
I don't know about bootloops caused by TB, but if it does you can reflash using the guide in the list.

You don't flash gapps on stock...
And we have a sticky thread for doing this; no need to leave the forum.

A Few Questions About Rooting And Stuff

Hello!
I have just got a new LG G2!
I want to root it, but I'm a little bit confused atm:
1) Rooting the device using IORoot does not change the kernel or recovery, does it? (I'll be rooted runnig stock and won't be able to flash stuff)
2) If I want to create a nandroid backup, I have to flash first CWM/TWRP. So how can I make a nandroid backup for my current unrooted and runnig stock phone?
3) Can I backup my EFS files without a custum recovery (with root only)?
4) Is that correct that after each rom I flash, the phone needs to be rooted again?
Thanks!
1. Yes
2. You use the cwm. Or twrp to make the backup.
3. Not sure, have always been rooted sui never looked for a way to do that.
4. No, I've never had to reroot after installing any rom.

unroot
Is there a way to unroot and leave no evidence that the phones been rooted. Im planning to return it and get another one. THanks in advance

[Q] General question about backing up

I'm just starting with android and planning on rooting my phone (vD800) eventually. I made a backup here: all settings> general> backup and reset but I don't think this is what I need for recovering from a failed root. What do I need to get so I can make an image of the phone? I have lots of questions but that'll do it for now.
You need to first root then install custom recovery then make a back up...

Ok that kind of goes against everything I know about computers but ok. What am I going to use for a failed root then? Where does my backup image come from? Thanks

What do you mean by failed root? I've never experienced such a thing. To root follow this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=48709232&postcount=869
You don't replace the OS until after the custom recovery (such as TWRP) is installed. So after you install TWRP or whichever recovery you want just boot in to the recovery and then backup there. Then flash whichever ROM you want.
Ok I get the part about not replacing the OS until you are rooted. So just root it and if I fail post here and see if anyone can help?
I guess I'm just trying to be sure I understand what I'm getting into before I do something that could seriously mess up my phone.
You can use the LG backup app on your phone, it's quite good. Then move or copy the backup file to the computer for safekeeping. I did this when I downgraded back to jellybean from kitkat in order to root kitkat and it worked perfectly. There's nothing about the root process for jellybean that will hurt the phone or cause data loss.

New Kindle FIre HDX7 with 3.2.6 rooted, safestrap it etc - how to get default back

Hi!
I recently bought a Kindle FIre HDX7. at first 3.1.0 was isntalled on it.. but while downloading and installing file explorer the kindle updater automatically downloaded the 3.2.6 update.... at first i thought great - now no root possible; but it still was possible
so then i rooted the device, installed SU, xposed and safestrap and flashed the Google Apps ROM.
I used this tutorial (but made a safestrap backup after xposed).
youtube com/watch?v=ZcD5mjZK0gU
How do i get back my Kindle Fire to the Stock Rom? or lets call it better this way: how can i make a complete reset of the device so that its in the same state like delivered. is a simple factory reset in the settings enough?
thx in advance.

because the tutorial has not the same situation as my device.
what would be the correct sequence to restore the stock rom and make a factory reset without root and all the installed apps etc - and will i get 3.1.0 back?

My girlfriend got her fresh kindle today. she wants to test the rooted/safestrapped/xposed amazon 13.3.2.4 but she doesn't like it. She hasn't flashed a custom rom to one of the TWRP rom slots. So i would say you have to delete the rom slots ( not the stock one) and double check in fireOS if your device space becomes the normal size. If this worked I would uninstall the recovery with the button in safestrap. And re-enable the OTA update with KFHDX-ToolKit.
Then restart your Kindle and then check for updates. Install them all and after you installed them. Make a factory reset. Then its the pure amazon fireOS with the newest version BUT BUT (!!!!) you can't use root / safestrap / google playstore anymore - keep that in mind.
Wish you the best

I also didnt use a costum ROM slot - but i have a backup from my system. or i can also download the stock rom or? but how do i install the backup? just hit install in the safestrap option (boot up) and install it on the stock rom slot? and then uninstall the recovery?
or do i just have to hit factory reset when i didnt use a costum rom slot? but re-enable OTA and install update is not an option...
Okay if i get it right now. You want a stock 13.3.2.4 fireOS without root and so on? And you are currently on 13.3.2.6 with all stuff. Right?
correct - because apparently im not able to use the HDX Nexus ROM with 3.2.5 or 3.2.6 (even though there are several youtube vids that show it works perfectly with 3.2.5?!)
but the main reason is that i want the stock ROM slot clean with the stock fire OS and use a costum ROM slot for the HDX Nexus Rom.
so basically a clean setup because now the gapps i flashed/installed on the stock ROM slot
i know i will have to reroot / install everything etc - but thats no problem. all i want is a factory reseted fresh kindle fire HDX with my current situation.
please help :/
in which order do i get the stock factory reset in the right order?
uninstall recovery
uninstall safestrap
factory reset? or do i need a stock .bin file which i have to install first?

if you are on your stock rom slot start the system.
open SAFESTRAP APP
click the "uninstall recovery"-button
restart your tablet
SAFESTRAP should now gone
if you want a specific version use the rollback tutorial
then your tablet should be stock in your preferred version (without ROOT and so on)
