Worth the upgrade over the GS6? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

So I've been playing around with my GS7 for a week now. I'm not convinced it was worth the upgrade over the GS6. The GS7 is what the GS6 should have been. They took away water resistance and memory card and then gave it back like they were adding something special. I have 1 more week to decide whether to keep it or return it. Really on the fence....

I think it's worth it. I appreciate that they didn't try to reinvent the wheel but instead just made many significant improvements to an already solid phone. In addition to water resistance and expandable storage (both huge features), there is a better CPU, better GPU, more RAM, bigger battery, and a better camera.

I think it's better to hold off for now. I am on GS6 too and placed a preorder then canceled it. If your area gets Exynos version probably OK, but I wouldn't say worth it.
Root for S7 SD820 version is almost impossible. I will wait for next month to see what HTC is going to show us. Also, wish there will be an update version of Moto Droid line soon.
By the way, GS6 should be on Marshmallow in a few weeks. It is also worth a wait.

I would say if you want the waterproofing, SD card and more battery life from what I heard yes. I am getting amazing battery life but coming from s5. If not then you should be good. The camera is seriously amazing too.

Now that root has been achieved do you still feel the gs7 isn't worth it?

I had a s6 and the 7 is ten times better.
I'm very happy.

I have a rooted S6 on verizon, as well as a S7 that I rooted. Even with root, the experience and battery life of my S7 hasn't touched my S6.
I bought an S7 for the larger battery, hoping for an increased battery life. I'm not sure if it is the Snapdragon or what, but I have been experimenting and haven't found a daily-driver friendly setup that has good battery life compared to my S6.

Which one is better? 6P or the upcoming galaxy S7 edge

Hey guys, i am a little stuck here, i want to buy a new phone, i am having trouble deciding that should i get the nexus 6P or wait a little for the s7 edge?
Which one is better?
Better in what way? Because you're not seriously asking if a just released device is technically better than an older device, right?

If you have no issues with touchwiz and have the patience to wait for updates , the s7 edge hands down.

6P is an older device but it has great support on xda, plus samsung phones tend to get slow , my friend has a s6 and it is already getting laggy, but the s7's specs seem to impress me. Not sure about the rom development department tho because s6 doesnt have a great support.
Only way I'll end up with a Sammy again is if it's a Nexus. Son has s6 edge, still waiting for MM, last security update was in Nov... Never again.
I mentioned in another thread that I got to play with the S7 this week and it's blazingly fast and smooth, even more so than the 6P. The SD 820 seems like a real powerhouse and Touchwiz seems quite well optimised. In saying that, it's still Touchwiz and it's still totally locked down and you won't get updates for an age.
The S7 will have more developer support because it uses the snapdragon 820 and not just exynos like the s6.
Even than, I prefer the 6P.

The S6 has an Exynos processor - probably one of the major reasons why Development has been lagging behind other phones - the S7 will have Snapdragon processors - at least here in the US - which should result in more development, but only time will tell for sure.
I have the Nexus 6p and will be getting the S7 - I have seen camera comparisons and I think the S7 camera has some advantages over the Nexus 6p - and while some don't like Touchwiz, Samsung knows how to make some incredible phones - it all comes down to taste. If you are an AOSP purist, stick with the Nexus - if you are looking for slightly better performance and a slightly better camera with external storage slot (up to 200GB) and don't mind waiting for Android Updates (they will be much slower than on the Nexus) go with the S7.
PLUS if you are interested in playing with the VR headset they are offering free VR headsets with Preordered S7's and S7 Edges.) that is a pretty cool bonus - and one of the things that got me so interested in the S7 edge.
Without getting into pricing, the S7 Edge hands down. I also played with it yesterday and it's an incredibly built phone that's fast and has amazing features.
Almost every key factor on it is better than the 6P...removable storage, better screen, better camera, better soc, better gpu, better gaming with Vulkan, more ram (and faster ram), faster internal storage, water cooled, wireless charging built in, water resistant, better build quality, larger battery, better features, etc.
If you can afford it (since it's considerably more expensive than the 6P), then I would pick it up. The Snapdragon 820 is a very nice upgrade to the 810 and it has the build and internals to be future proof.
I don't care about the "specs" of the S7. Stock Android always wins. I'll be waiting for the new Nexus.

I myself have just returned the 6P and I am planning on picking up an S7. I just got tired of all the problems with my 6P, as unfortunately I always got lemon units. the first one was bent out of the box, second one bent by the volume rocker, and third one screen was very pink, and I mean very pink lol. I still love the 6P for the short time I had it, and wish all who have the device best of luck!
I've been using Samsung galaxy phones since the 1st gen galaxy. No matter how much processing power and ram they put in their devices, the TouchWiz framework always slows them down over time. They performed best when using an aosp rom but that meant sacrificing battery life and camera quality.
The 6P has the best balance all around for the cost and it will be supported longer from Google and the Nexus community.

What's all this about water cooling?
My contract is up for renewal and I like the 6p but the hardware issues have been painful (even more so since it's second hand with no receipt I can't RMA). Touchwiz is annoying but not as bad as it used to be and is pretty good on the Note 5 when I used it and hardware will always been excellent and only falls behind on speakers if stereo is a must.

While I don't know every technical detail about it, in a nutshell the S7 and S7 Edge are gonna have a small pipe with water inside to cool things down under heavy load. Not much unlike a water cooling system for a PC. I think it's awesome personally, and a welcome addition to mobile tech.
Regarding Touchwiz, it's not nearly as bad as the past. Samsung hardware is stellar and their software is quickly catching up.
If you prefer stock Android, then the 6P is a decent choice. Along with Moto phones. If not, the S7 and S7 Edge are super strong candidates.
Thanks guys!!! I am going for the 6P as i am used to stock android since i have a nexus 5. 6P is an all rounder i think!

Ah yes, the copper cooling pipe inside is it? Now that's the closest thing to innovation we've had for a while with mobiles stagnating a bit.
Great decision with the 6p Samarth, awesome phone, just hope you get one of the issue free screens.

can't answer this question.
It's like saying what's better my BMW or the new Mercedes ??
I'll always take the Nexus. Those geniuses in the Samsung marketing dept won't get me. Some of the features are great on the S7, but as far as specs go, I'm not going to be doing anything that will weigh down the processor. Also, if you're not comparing screens side-by-side 24/7, you'll never be disappointed with the 6P. Save your money and go with the Nexus. Can't beat the price for a high-end smartphone. Software (ROMs) can add any feature the phone lacks.
A few things will keep me with the Nexus 6P over the S7. First is the ability to be on Project Fi. For someone who doesn't use much mobile data, it is going to save me about $30/mo over my previous T-Mobile plan. The second is that I really like the 5.7 inch screen size of the 6P. Neither the S7 or S7 Edge have as large a screen. The last thing is that, as far as I've heard, the S7 won't be available with more than 32GB of internal storage and also won't allow for the microSD card to be "adopted" into the internal storage pool and thus it can't be used for apps. I have the 128GB 6P and so don't have to deal with the inconsistent ways that the microSD cards are being handled by various vendors or their flavors of Android. For me, 128GB of internal storage was the point where I could justify not having external storage, given the size of my music collection, which I want to have physically on my device.

[Moto X Force] Thoughts? Should I buy this phone this late?

I currently own a Galaxy s6 Edge and I hate that I have to charge this thing twice a day. After learning that I can buy this phone in Mexico (2 mile drive for me) and make it compatible for ATT, I am definitely considering it. The problem is that it has been out in the market for about 5 months, and that means there may be something newer and better out there.
Any of you guys coming from the Samsung infrastructure to Moto? What are your thoughts? Should I just get an S7?
I feel I'll really miss the IR blaster, with little concern about the fingerprint sensor. I don't care about how the phone looks, mainly performance and utility. Any input is welcome, thanks!
The battery in this isn't really any better than the galaxy s6...
The SD810 is simply a power hog. I always get more SOT on my note 5, which has a significantly smaller battery.
Now that the Turbo 2 has marshmallow, maybe it will get better... Who knows.
I like the phone, but the battery is disappointing to me.
Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Do you find that the battery last you one whole day at least? Does it last you from the time you wake until the time you sleep?
For me it all depends on the screen on time. As long as I keep it 4 hours or less it lasts the whole day.
Marshmallow makes the idle battery drain better too, so that directionally helps.

While reading up on this, I've read the Galaxy series, especially S7 are/will be very "locked down". Do you know what that means?
I come from a Galaxy s6, and the only thing that i miss from it is the IR blaster, and honestly the fingerprint sensor was a concern for me, but meh. I would take the Forcé anyday. It lasts me a full day on heavy use. Like 5-6 SOT some dudes seem to have better life battery, but i use the FB app so maybe thats the issue. Software is waaaaay better, and doesn't seem to get sluggish over weeks like my s6, i miss the theme store of the S6, but if you root on marshmallow you can install layers, and voilá. I'm from México too.

Samsung and most vendors, hardly customized their roms. Which means a lot of bloadware, not well optimized, etc. Samsung launching a lot of devices every year and it's really hard to support all of them with updates. So, they just do not update or update is delayed a lot. Most xda users then flash CM or similar but loose some of stock features.
Previously Moto had customized rom called blur. After Google acquired Moto, rom became almost vanilla but they removed sd-card. Now Moto is part of Lenovo and rom is still very close to vanilla Android and sd-card is back! That's why I'm back to Moto after they lost me with removing sd-card.
If you can, buy Moto X Force instead of Turbo 2. The same phone without Verizon bloatware, bootloader unlockable, MM arrived last year, supports more LTE bands and works so well that I'm still using stock. This is the fist time since I have Android. Usually I unlock and root max week after purchase, even for Nexus.

Honestly I didn't check S7 and I'm not interested at all. It will have faster SoC (two different type, depending of region -> mess with custom roms and even official updates), 1GB more RAM, smaller battery, breakable screen and most important Samsung bloadware...
If I'm buying phone now, most probably I will not buy S7 but I will check all new flagships (LG?) and see which one suits me the best.

i would go for S7 because its a 2016 device, it has the newer top tier snapdragon 820 and better camera than x force, and new battery of 3000 mah, it will get support 1 year and a half.
the downside of it its samsung bloatware, past the year and half you wont get support. and the battery its not as big as the x force, also smaller screen size.

I looked into the snapdragon 820 vs 810 and I read it is about 40% faster and more power efficient. Also I'm seeing that the 810 has overheating problems at high usage. I'm not sure if this is enough reason to not buy the Force. Do any of you all suffer from overheating?
I really did want this device, but now I'm debating on just waiting for the next gen.... Which will be nothing under 6-7 months. Even then, there's no guarantee there will be an international version that'll support AT&T.
Any advice?
S7 most probably will be more expensive and so damn fragile. Especially edge. Just to remind you, S7 has 820 or Exynos 8890, depends of region and for LTE three or more variant.
I had overheating problem with Turbo 2. For example recording 4k, using VR or playing games. No such problems with Force (recorded a lot of 4k videos), even before MM update. After is even cooler.
You're in classical never ending waiting phase for newer, better device. Just buy what currently suits you the best and do not wait forever.

Should be the same device but somehow Turbo 2 heated more. You can find my comments about that somewhere here. I almost gave up of buying Force. For me shatterproof display was initial sales point, then of course, powerful SoC, 3GB, sd card (very important for me), clean Android, design, high res amoled...
For VR I have View-Master. It's cool for playing with, everyone who tried was impressed. Honestly I'm not using it much. I'm staring in displays enough anyway to have another one on my head later Samsung has it's own solution for VR but I've never tried. HTC has it as well. Obviously humanity is heading to something like Matrix or Surrogates.

If you can hang in there wait for the new motos this summer/fall. Otherwise the force has the best battery life out there as far as I know.
Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
Best battery life? Not even close... That is simply a false statement. My Turbo 2 does OK, but my note 5 and my S6 Active both get longer battery life.
Heck my Turbo 1 got longer battery life than my Turbo 2.
Again, I find the Turbo 2 battery life acceptable... But let's keep it real - it definitely isn't the longest, or even close to longest.

I probably can, the problem is I'm not sure they will release another international version that supports all of the AT&T bands like the force. I don't suppose there's any way of telling is there?

S7 vs. S5 What should I get?

I am switching from Verizon to AT&T so I need to get a new phone. Since AT&T doesn't offer Motorola smartphones, I have narrowed my choices down to the S7 and S5 (or maybe the S5 active). I have looked at the specs for both and they seem pretty close. I am not a heavy phone user, mostly just Facebook, email, Pandora, and a few games here and there. Also need a decent camera. Trying to decide if the S7 is worth the extra money over the S5. What is everyone's thoughts? Thank you.
P.S. I am not looking at the S6 due to lack of a SD card slot.
I would go for the S7. I just upgraded to it and i like it better (although there is no root, but if you get a new S5 you won't be able to root anyhow) the camera is 10 times better on the S7 i think (it's like looking through a window) the S7 is reportedly capable of reading the new 200gb mini SD. Overall i like it better (again other than root)

I had an S5 for the past couple years. Decided to upgrade this week. It came down to the S7, S7 Edge, and LG G5. I love the concept behind the G5. The modular accessories are a brilliant idea. However, I don't think that's something I'm willing to jump into right away. I expect it'll take a year or so to get all the kinks worked out. So I came down to the S7 or Edge. Similar to the G5, I think the edge screen is a brilliant idea, but I still think it's gonna take some time to take full advantage of that. Plus, I'm not big on the phablet craze. So I ended up going with the smallest of the 3 phones, but still has the same CPU, RAM, etc. as the other 2. I figured it would fit better in my pocket and wouldn't be as fragile as I expect the edge to be with the curved glass. I have always rooted my phones, and the S5 was no exception. I pushed that thing to the edge and really liked the phone. I picked up my S7 today. And let me tell you, although I'm disappointed I can't root it (yet), stock right out of the box it crushes my S5 in performance. The camera is leaps and bounds better, as has been previously reported. Especially in low light situations. And the new Snapdragon is as incredible as the reviews imply. With the 4GB RAM. This thing flies as smooth as butter. But probably the biggest factor to me, is that it's waterproof without relying on that annoying flap and has the regular quick charge micro USB instead of the awkward USB 3.0 charging port before. It was always a headache plugging in my S5 in the dark, but the S7 has no such issue. I also think aesthetically it's a much better looking phone. But that's simply opinion. Though I liked the removable battery of the S5, the S7 back just looks FAR more refined. Especially in the Platinum Gold color I chose. The ONLY complaints with this phone is the lack of a removable battery and not being able to root. But it is definitely fast enough without root. But the quick charging capability compensates for not being able to remove the battery, and I expect some genius devs to figure out root in the near future. I avoided the S6 because they took away the removable battery, the microSD card, AND waterproofing. Even the Snapdragron last year sucked. The S7 is what the design change SHOULD have been. It's a nearly perfect phone

Rooting is Greek to me. lol Not even 100% sure what it means or is. I have always carried my phones on my belt so fitting in a pocket is not an issue. My current phone does not have a removable battery either, but lacks a SD slot which I HATE. Does the S7 as the normal micro charge slot? I already have a number of those chargers and don't want to get different chargers. I will be putting an Otterbox case on whatever phone I get so looks are not very important. Thank you.

yes it does. With the Quickcharge 2.0. I look forward to USB-C becoming the standard (it will even be used for laptop chargers. It will revolutionize electronics in time. But it's still young tech right now), I think Samsung was right to do the charger this way for now. Plus the new Qi quickchargers are incredibly efficient. Which is an added convenience I haen't even taken advantage of yet. Rooting, to put it simply, is giving the user access to the very base directory of the phone. You can use apps and features like ad-blocking and run custom operating systems with many features. The dev community created many features on rooted phones that we now see in the stock versions of Android years early. I don't believe Android would have advanced as far as it has so quickly without end-user devs rooting their phones. Rooting used to be very complicated compared to how simple devs have made it in recent years. But it was great. You could put custom kernels (essentially CPU settings) that would overclock it when running apps that need the power, and then underclock it when not. Features that are now included in the stock Android experience. Almost every reason I originally rooted my phones are now features baked into stock Android, so it's not as big a deal to not be able to root IMO. But I do still want the option at least. But if you have no desire to root, that's all the more reason I'd suggest the S7 for you. Running stock it is a BEAST. There's not even the slightest hint of lag anywhere using it. Though I don't know you at all, I don't believe you will be disappointed in the slightest by choosing the S7
After looking phones over a few days ago, I ended up with the S7. I have figured most of it out and still learning as I go. I do have one question though. How do I do a screen shot? It is not the same as my pervious phone. I looked in the manual, but did not find it. Thank you
just hold the home and power buttons at the same time
You can also screen shot using your hand. Go to settings, advanced features, Palm swipe to capture, and turn it on. It shows you how to capture a screen shot by swiping your hand across the screen. I prefer this method. It seems easier to me.
S7 is far better then s5.
I still have my rooted and rom'd S5, no comparison, S7 is in another league in every way.
I had a Moto X Pure (2015), which I naturally rooted and installed a custom kernel. A friend dropped the darn thing and cracked the screen and busted the touchscreen. I thought I would have been so incredibly disappointed with the S7 due to the lack of rooting and whatever Samsung calls Touchwiz these days.
The last galaxy phone I owned was the Note 3. I didn't have it for long before I ditched it for the original Moto X. Since, I've owned all three iterations of the Moto X. Leaving what was basically a stock Android experience seemed unfathomable. Nonetheless, it would have been cheaper to use an upgrade (which I had for some time thanks to me always buying my phones unlocked through motomaker).
I too looked at the G5, S7, and S7 edge. I didn't like the feel or design of the G5. Also, the 2015 Moto X was just too damn big. Thusly, the edge was out of the running. I left the store with a black S7. Holeesheet Batman, this thing is gorgeous. The jump from the 808 with 3gb of RAM (in the X Pure) to the 820 with 4gb of RAM shows tremendous performance benefits.
The leap ahead to the 14nm process behind the 820 simply cannot be physically beaten by the 808's 22nm process, even with stock Android or overclocking and all the other bits that can come with a custom kernel. Not to mention, the 820 in my S7 has 2 fewer cores than the 808 in my X.
I'm happy with this phone. It flies through everything. The animations in the play store, and other apps, are much smoother than any other phone I've owned. The camera cannot be understated. My girlfriend, who is a professional photographer, is jealous of the performance compared to that of her iPhone. It won't produce photos better than her DSLR camera, but she can't put her Canon DSLR in her pocket.
I could keep going, although I won't.

I'm not sure I'd want to get an s7 unless its the 930f international model, I'm not a fan of quad HD on phones, I'm perfectly fine with 1080. My S5 and one plus one serve me well.

Still Worth it A Year Later?

Hey guys, I'm just wondering what your thoughts are on if this phone is still worth it? Especially for right around $300. Or am I better off saving some more money and buying a Pixel/Pixel XL or waiting for the Pixel 2s?

It's depend what you need overall I am happy with the v20. It's still great phone plus the killer audio if you don't need the new and greatest device. The good are good screen, audio, good for contents consumption, removeable battery. The not so good LG stock ui a little laggy for me sometime, size is not so compact and not much dev support for this phone. For $300 its steal. New phones not much new really they just try to make money from us after few weeks it get old like other phones.
I think so, of course, I just bought one last week...
With the price drops, it's a very good device for the money. Specs haven't been increasing as fast as years past, so devices are quite usable for longer times than before. We can still unlock/root and AOSP based ROMs are getting good. Updates will never be as fast as Google devices like the Pixel, but it's not bad and you don't lose as much waiting it out like we used to. Even Oreo doesn't add that much that I care about for features. The very latest flagships are maybe 20% faster. They also cost 2-3x as much. Value isn't there for me. Maybe it is for you, that's your decision to make.
I'm not interested in Pixel or most new devices right now. I came from a Nexus 6 with a dieing battery. I can replace it, and probably will, but it's annoying to do and runs a risk of destroying the device for a known maintenance part that we know will die. It's a bit like welding the oil plug on a car so you can't change the oil. Eventually it will die, it's a matter of time.
My requirements were: large screen (5.5"+), root, removable battery, SD, headphone jack, TMobile compatibility, value. I would have liked front facing speaker/speakers, but I can live without them. There's nothing out there in this year's devices that interests me. There's nothing wrong with options, but I do wish I had a couple to choose from as well. V20 was pretty much it. On the plus side for it though, tempered glass screen protectors are available that work well. And extended batteries. With the Zero Lemon 10k battery, I have what amounts to unlimited battery life. I'd probably fall asleep before running out. I also really hate the design trend with the camera sticking out from the back, and prefer thicker phones anyway, so it works for me.
If I were to drop removable battery, Axon 7 and OnePlus get more interesting. Though OnePlus doesn't have SD either, putting them lower on the list.
If root is important to you, make sure you know what software version you are getting and check to make sure it can be rooted. Some of the newer ones can't be yet. TMobile 10p, for example, can not.
I've had mine since launch and I still enjoy it. Granted the development support has stagnated lately. But I would completely recommend it. Especially if you get an extended battery.
I've had my v20 for three or four months. Solid phone, can't see any reason to upgrade.
I could buy three of these for the price of a galaxy note 8! Or one of these and a halfway decent laptop!
After this 10p update i'd have to say no. better off getting a v30 when it comes out.

Any particular reason why? Wasn't that just security patches?

Yes, that killed of DirtyCow, that killed off root for the foreseeable future.
If LG hadn't deleted all fastboot commands i'd say yeah get the V20. but now it will be unrootable and uncustomizable for quite some time.
I used the twrp zip 10p bootloader and modem... It completely refreshed my performance.
Getting 70+mbs down and 16 up... Compared to 10k modem I was getting 16 down and 3 up if lucky.
I also still have root (non OTA update).
So if you install update through twrp you still keep root.
I wouldn't ever really upgrade phones unless it's a new device that supports the new 600mhz band and 700mhz.
Had mine for a year.... It's amazing. Once you get it right, camera is good (Lazer focus and resolution replaced dslr), audio with DAC/HiFi/viper is amazing.
Screen and battery is great, sd card is a must for me.
If you can get a pristine/new one for $2-300 it's well worth it.
Only gripe, wish there was water proof case.

Thanks for the answers guys! But I ended up getting the Pixel XL for the sheer performance and rootability and I'm happy with the decision.

OnePlus 5 or the S7 Edge?

I'm looking to buy a new phone for myself upgrading from a Galaxy S6 (32 GB) and I've lately found myself running out of space. I can get the OnePlus 5 or Galaxy S7 Edge in my current budget. I prefer stock android but I also don''t have a hatred towards touchwiz as a lot of people do. I also want a decent camera with which I can take pictures of myself/friends. Waterproofing isn't really that big a deal for me personally. On the contrary, battery life is a big deal. I don't mind having to recharge my phone during the day but I also don't want my phone dying out on me if I decide to stay in uni for a couple more hours than I normally do. For anyone who has used/owned/has an idea about both phones, which one do you think would be the better phone for me? Oh and I should mention, the Oneplus 5 is the 128 GB model whilst the Galaxy S7 edge is the 32 GB model (I will be using a micro sd card with it)
Thanks
If you're coming from the S6, the S7 will be a noticeable downgrade. The CPU is pretty underpowered compared to the exynos in the S6. I tried the S7 when I'm normally on the Note5 and I couldn't stand it. I'd get a oneplus. I was thinking about it (which is why I'm in this page) but I can't ditch my Samsung.
I came from the s8 with no regrets, the user experience, fluidness/smootheness is amazing. No hiccups or anything.
I'd go with the oneplus 5 in your case.
If you don't mind a medeocre camera....go for the 5.

If you're looking for really a great camera, then go for s7 edge which can click amazing pictures even in low light. It also has a pretty good battery life as I'm using the exynos version.
I also had a one plus 5 as my daily driver, it's the best in terms of performance and battery life.
But, honestly s7 edge's camera is one of the best camera available on smartphone compared to the one on OnePlus 5.
I will switch to the OP5 from my S7 Edge. That is the last straw of waiting and waiting for updates!

RIP. If you care about performance and responsiveness, the S7 is not the way to go.
EDIT: *unless you get the international version with the octa-core exynos.
EDIT2: I'm smart. You said from the S7 to the OP5. My bad, LOL.
I've had both - came from Int'l S7E to OP5. S7E was an awesome phone - easily one of the best I've ever had. Battery, Camera, Screen and Performance (mostly) were awesome. I would still pick an S7E over an S8 because of the fingerprint placement and the larger battery. Anyway, what drew me to the OP5 were the SD835, the dual camera and the 8/128GB configuration. I've had 128GB SD cards die on me 3-4x in the S7E (I don't really keep anything I can't replace on them, but it's still a pain to resync stuff) so the integrated storage is really nice to have.
The camera is definitely a downgrade in terms of quality, especially low light. I feel the OP5 camera has gotten better but still isn't a match for the S7E. I do enjoy the "2x" zoom (really 1.6) and the portrait mode on occasion. Although the OP5 battery is a bit smaller than the S7E (which is really, really an incredible battery), I've had no real issues getting through even my longest days with the OP5. Dash charging is just silly with the OP5, it's crazy fast but you have to buy at least one extra dash charger that's $$.
I don't really miss the lack of wirelessly charging...I really only charge 1x a day at night.
Lack of waterproofing - well, the reality is the OP5 does have some level of waterproofing, just not IP67/68. It's gotten wet from rain, no issues.
S7E has awesome in-hand feel because of the curve edges (narrower), but the OP5 is also excellent and the screen has less distortion without the curved edges. Quality of the AMOLED screens, S7e has a definitive advantage.
OP5 software is really MUCH smoother than S7E and feels much more stock. I always had a "Nougat" type theme running on my S7E so really, Grace UX or whatever it's called now wasn't much of an issue on S7E the way it was previously with earlier Sammy devices.
MicroUSB is becoming legacy, I now do prefer USB-C as my Macbook Pro is also USB-C so can get away with the same charger if I want to be lazy and not bring along a dash charger on trips.
I've never felt a need to go back to the S7E since I got the OP5, but I'd happily use either phone. In day to day use, I prefer the OP5 software but I miss the S7E camera when I'm taking pics for special occasions (e.g. parties) as opposed to casual stuff.
If say the only upside to the s7 good it is way cheaper than the op5. Especially if you are getting the 128gb version
Nice comment. Hopefully I won't to regret my decision to switch to OP5 (8/128).
