Android 6.0......CRAPPY? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

I came from a GS6 Edge plus. That phone was smooth as ice , NEVER a hitch or stutter. This S7 Edge seems to be full of hutches or stutters.... It's bizarre. Anyone agree or am I a moron?
Sent from my SM-G935V using Tapatalk

I found that me 1st day with this phone I was second guessing my decision to sell my Nexus 6P. After a few days I found this phone to be really smooth. I would give it some time

Chrome is the only app I've seen stutter, so I replaced it with lightning+.

Lol check their github. It's active.

I really just can't believe that after a few generations of the galaxy s line after I continue to support the brand. I always expect more. I still get lag once in a while. I hate lag
On well I still have my Nexus 6p for back up

I also came from a 6P, and was surprised by the amount of lag when using the S7 Edge

Lag?

Am I the only one experiencing MASSIVE lag on this phone? The lag comes and goes intermittently, its really random. Not consistent, but I experience it often doing typical tasks, such as changing my browser window, opening text messages, changing between apps, the notification bar will stutter when pulled down randomly, etc. This is my second S4, and both seem to lag really bad.
What do you guys think?
Turn off all bloat ware or factory reset the phone.

Maybe power saving feature is on? I've read it can cause some since it affects cpu...

Its off, at first I thought maybe that was the problem, but I'm positive its off.
It's a problem. Everyone has noticed it with the AT&T version. AT&T and Samsung really need to get together and get on this pretty quick to address this issue. Stutter and lag should not be part of a phone that scores so well on every benchmark.

So its limited to just the At&t branded version? If thats the case I might just return this and pick up the T-mobile version.
Install Nova launcher and override the transition animations with either slide or ICS. That takes care of the stutters when opening and closing apps.

I have uninstalled all bloat, changed launcher to Nova, and reduced animation times... And my phone still lags with typing and in the browser and overall UI. This is disgusting to see... My Nexus 4 is so much smoother...

Have you changed the transition animations within Nova settings? That fixes the stutters when opening and closing apps.

Im convinced the lag is a sure thing on ALL devices. Those of you who dont THINK you have no lag, I assume is because you have never used a lag free device like the HTC One or Nexus 4. Personally at this point I'd go as far to say my old S3 was "smoother" than this S4.....
Mine is so laggy that I don't even want to use it. I would say that its because it has so much going on.

4.3 performance

Installed 4.3 and did a full wipe. Beenbhaving a strange delay in Chrome. Sometimes it will take 3-5 second when I click link, bookmark, or new URL. Tried turning off the wifi optimization and thought it helped at first but actually did not. Driving me nuts and about to completely really err to stock and start over. Didn't have this issue on 4.2 but I was ruining AOKP for a long time... Anyone else notice this?
I don't have 4.3 yet, but I noticed a strange issue with Chrome about a week ago when it installed an update. When I open Chrome, it starts out black &white, twitches for a second or two, then goes to normal color. This only happens opening it from a complete tablet shutdown or closing out the browser completely to a black screen then returning. Other than that, it's no different than before

No issues on mine as i use chrome as my only browser. Only thing bothering me is when i click on something small, chrome zooms in first then i will have to re click again. This was happening to be before 4.2.2 as well.

That's actually not a glitch. Its a feature. Chrome does that when it isn't sure what link you're tapping, so instead of making a mistake it zooms in so that you can pick the link more accurately.
Just watch where you tap more closely, and you'll be fine. You'd be worse off without it, IMO.

The black and white tab means the tab had been forced out of memory and needs to reload. Once the page reloads it displays in color again.
Performance has taken a nose dive for me. This thing is really sluggish. Just bought a new Nexus 7 for my wife and that thing runs circles around my 10. Custom kernels just make things worse.

I have you determined if it's actually a performance issue or wifi issue? In my case it's clearly just wifi.
FYI... Seeing how this thread went completely off topic I continued this discussion in another thread that was started...

How is the lag and scrolling?

How is the lag and smooth scrolling speed on the phone? Is there any lag that anyone notices? Do the menus and websites scroll really smoothly like the iPhone 5S?

I have only been using s5 in ART mode and its butter smooth everywhere. But sometimes the phone doesn't come out of sleep (the screen remains dark/off) only the capacitive buttons light up and i have to toggle the power button several times for it to work (no power off required). another issue i face is that the camera takes a solid 5 seconds or more to start up from lock screen. May be i should switch back to DALVIK.
Tw launcher lag a bit. To overcome this u should enabled developer option and set each animation by 0.5x. I'm using nova launcher and it's fly

I remember having this conversation about the GS 2 years ago. Back then it was hard to argue that the phone had lagging issues. And today coming from an s2 the only lag I'm experiencing is in my own mental processing power trying to keep up with this phone

Yes there is lag. Especially when comparing to New modern phones like the HTC One M8.

Let's be serious once and for all.
TouchWiz will ALWAYS be slower than stock Android, so please stop asking if the S5, S6, S7 lag.
Don't expect TouchWiz to be as fast! Ever! That simple.

How is the lag compared to the m8?
I've noticed lag on the s5 while sifting through the camera settings during the camera mode. I think the scrolling on the s5 seems to be a little smoother compared to the m8 based on my testing both phones at a store, but I could be wrong. I also think the iPhone is still somewhat smoother than both phones. I'm hoping for find an android that beats out the iPhone in terms of lag and smooth scrolling.

I do use Nova but generally the phone feels like it's finally shaken off some of the slow S4 shackles.
My experience so far is that it is a big improvement over the S4. Bone stock so far.

If you look on YouTube, there's a video comparison of the lag. The S5 loses every time, but it's microseconds, nothing major.

Keyboard lag?

It could be a placebo, coming from an iPhone 6s Plus, but the stock google keyboard seems slightly laggy to me. Like it doesn't keep up with my typing. It's similar to how the Samsung keyboard performs on the Note 5 for me. Is anyone else experiencing this? Any suggestions for a better performing keyboard? I would think the stock google keyboard would be the fastest.
Can't speak about the Nexus 6P since I don't have one. But seeing how all my other Nexus devices work I would doubt it's something other than bad apps installed (if that at all). I seen what your talking about happen even on the latest iOS devices.
Take the iPhone 6s Plus. Seen it on one of my mine. BUT, I figured it was my backup I was using.

I don't have any "bad apps". I have the same apps installed as I had on my Nexus 6, which didn't have any issues.
No offense, but I'm not sure you should be speculating when you don't even have the device.

They aren't stutters. It's just almost imperceptibly slow. Like my typing outpaces it. I'm not sure how to explain it. The rest of the phone is silky smooth.

Have you tried disabling "Vibrate on keypress"? If I remember correctly, it is enabled by default. If I don't disable it, I can type faster than the keyboard can keep up with.
I've noticed the same issue as well when using Google hangouts for some reason. I thought it was my SwiftKey but I guess it happens with the stock keyboard too?

You know what? I think know that might be it. I switched to SwiftKey and used typing sounds instead of vibration and it definitely seems faster. I'll give that a try with the stock keyboard.

My wife has the Note 5 and between the two, I still like mine better. Its just a better footprint overall.
I've got both. I don't see any difference in performance except when I compared them in Gear VR. The Note 5 was way much smoother for some reason (maybe something dragging down the S7E in the background..?) picture quality is slightly better on S7E but it feels like the Note 5 has slightly larger field of view.
Otherwise it's up to everyone personal preference design-wise.
