Low Bluetooth volume through speakers? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Is anyone else having problems with Bluetooth volume levels through your car speakers or any other Bluetooth speaker for that matter? My volume is verrrryy low through through the speakers at the "safety" level that u hit when trying to jack it up on the phone. I have to put my car speakers up to like 30. I didn't have to do with with Note 4. Low 20s was fine. The only way to make it louder without having to raise the car volume to 30 is to jack up the volume on the phone itself past the safety level. Then it gets louder i can lower the car volume a bit. Once again, didn't have to do this with Note 4. Its doing this with car, Powers Beats, and UE Boom.

Yeah I noticed the same on my bluetooth devices, Very quiet compared to other phones.

It's weird. With the hands free in the car i think the volume is fine. I even think its sort of ok on the powerbeats 2. Playin music through the car or UE Boom though is really really low.

Having only received the phone Friday I've not had the chance to do much testing. But on the couple of times I took it in the car it was noticeably low playing music. Hopefully a software fix will correct.

I did a quick Google search and I've seen some people complaining about the Bluetooth dropping connections. I had it do once or twice. I've also had it not want to always stayed connected to my JAWBONE UP3 fitness tracker. I was watching it connect and disconnect nonstop a few times then eventually it stayed connected. Hopefully it's just a software issue that Samsung will fix and Verizon will release sooner than a year later. Some people have said the volume issue is a Marshamallow occurence but I don't know. ?

Ive not had any Bluetooth connectivity problems. Just the low volume which is not a major problem.

Bluetooth volume is pretty much the same as my LG G3, which I thought was low, so i'm used to it.

Just chiming in, coming from HTC M7 I definitely can tell the difference with low volume on S7E. I really had to crank up my car stereo volume when the phone is connected.

I had this problem both on the S7 edge and my previous Note 5. I just unpaired and repaired (three times with the edge) and finally the volume went back to the previous volume of my previous devices - weird, can't explain why but once the level settles it stays the same every time I connect. (I always set volume to full on the phone and then use the car stereo to control thereafter)

haven't had any disconnections myself, whether it's the smartwatch, car or wireless bluetooth speakers, however, when the phone's connected to the BT speakers, I did notice that even at full volume, it is very low compared to my former S6 edge.

I use Samsung Level U Pro Bluetooth Headset as well as JBL Bluetooth Speaker.
No Issues at all even streaming via Spotify and TuneIn Pro.

Same here. But it seems to differ every time I reconnect a Bluetooth device. Little annoying since I have to readjust my headphones every time...

I can connect an iPhone to my car's bluetooth and it's extremely loud (35/40 and I can't handle the volume anymore) and if I connect my S7 I can hit 40/40 and talk casually over the music that's playing. My Note 5 did this, as well as my old Galaxy S6. Not sure why Samsung's bluetooth volume is so low/bad compared to iPhone. Not to mention there is almost no bass in the audio that's transferred.

Let's see if we can solve this once and for all. I've been experimenting and I am having some results. But does require an equalizer app. I am using Equalizer FX so I don't know how these steps work on other ones.
Open the app, click the three dots in the upper right > Settings > check "Global audio output mix" it's description reads, "Warning! It does not work for new devices. We do not recommend to use this feature. However this is the only solution for some players." (I am using YT Music)
After you turn that setting on, go back and click the middle tab "Effects" and you'll need to turn on "Loudness Enhancer" then use the slider to adjust it to your personal taste.
You don't even need to have the main page equalizer turned on. Just the main toggle needs to be on, the one right next to the three dots.
This part is just a little extra for those who don't understand the issue. SoundAlive maintains the media volume separately from all other device sounds. In the past we just used Package Disabler, turned it off, boom no more limited bluetooth music volume. Now it seems, it cannot be disabled with going rooted. *Flips table* You can easily demonstrate the issue by making sure you have setting on for the device volume synced with bluetooth volume. Connect to a bluetooth speaker, play a song, then plug and unplug an aux cable into the phone, you'll notice probably a 30% volume difference.

Tried to ask in another thread but it was kinda off topic.
Last I knew people were playing with diagnostic codes but there was no consensus on what did or did not work.
Audio from the headphone jack and seemly the blue tooth was too quiet.
Is this still an issue?

In all truth, i don't use the bluetooth. But i just checked my headphones, and they sound OK. My sony earphones work great on the phone. I did d/l that one app... Media Volume Settings and set the volume all the way to 100...that may be what is making mine work better. Hope this helps!

You should look through the diagnostics codes thread. It has some stuff about sound changes in there as well as some of the registry tweaks you should look up if you're unhappy enough with it to need to change something.
Funkadube: I did and couldn't seem to get any reliable change. Plus having to redo it everytime I restarted the phone seemed crazy.
I know when I had mine the volume level out of the head phone port was NOT loud enough when hooked to my car radio even though every other phone I've ever had was. You'd have to goto MAX VOLUME to get it very loud and if it was a quiet song or something not at loud (I'm staring at YOU SLACKER RADIO) then you could barely get it listenable.
I then installed Bluetooth module into the car and had the same issue with it also.
I'd wish I knew someone with one I could test IRL to see if its still a problem. I'd love to switch back to WP7...
Is there a way to boost the out-of-call Bluetooth volume on the Samsung Focus? Between builds 7712 and 7720, the Bluetooth volume for voice dial responses, TellMe, and text-to-speech were drastically reduced and now they are so low that I can't hear them with the phone turned all the way up to 30/30. I used to use the phone at 20/30 with my car's Bluetooth without a problem on 7712 and 7390. Has anyone else noticed this change since upgrading to 7720?

I have a Bluetooth headset and it isn't as bad with the headset. But the text-to-speech is still significantly lower than call volume. In fact, the real issue is that there's a huge imbalance between the out-of-call volume and in-call volume with Bluetooth headsets in 7720.
As I mentioned before, when the phone is paired to the car I can turn the phone up to 30/30 from 20/30, but I still have to boost the volume from the car side about 5 levels higher when I'm out-of-a-call to get any decent level of audio out of the phone. The problem then is that when I take a call it is way too loud and I have to rush to turn down the volume on the car side. It makes the use of the feature so inconvenient that I've just turned it off. While I would be perfectly content with Microsoft returning volume levels to what they were since 7004, I'd just as readily use the Samsung Diagnostic app to make the adjustment myself, if it is possible. I'm looking for any remedy at this point.
Text-to-speech was the feature I was looking forward to the most in Mango, and now it's the only feature of the OS I can't use. I can't express how frustrated and disappointed I am that this has happened, and I just can't understand why this change was made. I've seen no reports of anyone ever complaining that the volume was too loud before 7720. It's one thing if I was seeking a feature that wasn't implemented, but it is implemented and it's broken. I just wish there was some solution or recourse to make it usable again.

Low volume with Bluetooth.

Overall om really satisfied with my x style but I have one really annoying issue with mine, low Bluetooth volume both in calls and music podcasts etc. Coming from a opo where I had no issues with volume at all this is a bit of a let down. I thought that mm would solve it, a bit at least (why I thought that, or have no idea hoping for the best I guess.) but it's still at max setting it's just a tad bit higher than normal speaking volume.
Is there any one else that have experienced this? Maybe there's even a fix?
headset is sony sbh20, I actually have two same issue with both but not on the opo
I use the Moto Surround headphones. Volume is OK but could have just a little more boost for noisy environs or when I'm doing the vacuuming!
For Podcasts I use Pocket Casts which has a volume booster which works. Also the best podcaster out there.
I mainly use pocket casts and Google music, but I've also tried Spotify, songza youtube, and it's the same issue, been fiddling with gmusics eq doesn't matter. The front speakers works great so I assume there's some conflict with the headset, fu*k i don't know.
I just switched from a Note 3, and at least for my car radio, the sound is MUCH louder than my note 3. I'm at almost 1/2 volume on my Pure, and on my Note 3, I have to have it at max (Override the volume limiter) to keep from going deaf when I switch to the radio!!!!
My bluetooth volume kind of sucks too. In my car, if I take the phone and connect via Bluetooth I have to crank the volume to ~75% to be listenable, while if I take the same phone and car and plug in the aux jack, volume can be half of that.
It's a real bummer because I really like the freedom of bt, I can leave my phone anywhere in the apartment and just use the headset. Wired headphones paired with my phone is just a hassle

Galaxy s7 Edge Major problem with headphone jack & Bluetooth

So i just got my phone on march4 and i found out 2 major problems on my s7 edge i did a research and seems to be im not the only one with this issue.
1- Bluetooth doesnt work with any wireless speaker i can connect the phone to the speaker but the music come from the phone speaker.
2- the headphone jack make static and horrible noise when you use a aux cable (for example i use my phone on my car with a aux cable and this static breaking noise is problem) now seems to be that the cord doesnt go all the way in into the headphone jack which is a huge concern to me.
3- when you are trying to listen music or audio trough the 2 option above the volume rocker only change the Ringtone volume not the Music/audio volume another big problem.
4- the stock music player is gone
A last i call samsung regardless the problem and they told me they will escalate the situation and they told to go to my carrier to order a replacement if i want to. so people remember you only have 15 days to return or get a replacement if you have the same problem.
All audio related - Sounds handset specific? Good luck on the replacement

I can't believe that these issues could be in all S7! In my opinion, it sounds like it's a faulty handset
We ordered two S7's and we are having the same noise issues with headphones. It makes a horrible noise but only when we are in the house. If you go outside, the noise stops. We have tried various things like disconnecting the wifi and nothing works. The headphones worked fine with the S5
1 is an easy fix simply user error, swipe down on the top of the screen and you should be able to select an "Audio Path/Audio Output" and from there select your speakers or headset. As for the static interference, it's hard to say what the source is from but it only occurs (at least for me) in high volume settings. Either get a shielded aux cable or use a portable amp, which is what I've been doing. If you do return it, keep us updated, I'm curious if if the static is "normal" or a defect.
Samsung's music app can be downloaded from "Galaxy Apps"
My husband and I got an s7 edge as well and we hear the same static noise when it's plugged into the aux cable. I've been thinking about taking it to my att store to see if they can help.

First you want to open up settings and go into sound and vibrations then you want to scroll down to swap sound quality and effects when you have an aux cable plugged in go ahead and switch the HQ upscaler from off to on and that is your solution to fixing static noises with the galaxy s7 and the galaxy S 7 edge. I'm having the static issue as well. As soon as I touch the headphone jack (on the cord) the static is noticeable. The volume also changes.. Tried 3 different headphones, all the same.

Static issue is gone. However using the audio cable plugged into the auxiliary port in my car the audio sounds as if I'm listening through the speaker on the bottom of the phone but it's coming through the car speakers. I've tried every different setting in sounds and equalizer setting and nothing works. Looks like I may be sending 4 phones back and going with the G5
I am also having issues with the Galaxy S7, static noise from internal speaker and headphones. When you restart the phone it goes away and sounds crystal clear. I am not sure what could be causing this to randomly start, and why doesn't it happen constantly and it goes away when restarting the phone? The Samsung tech support agent said maybe an app I have on my phone is causing it. It happens with YouTube and samsung milk music, I'm not sure why only sometimes. Also it's weird that it happens in both samsung headphones and the internal phone speaker, even at low volumes.
Stock music player is not gone. Its in sam market. Taken away to make the software as bloatwarefree as possible. Blutooth through car speaker also works fine here.

Mine is having exactly the same issues as yours! The only way to avoid such noise is to use the BLUETOOTH speakers/headphones. What can we do now? Ask samsung to give us a new s7edge to try? Is S7e all like this?
I have a lot of static through car speakers with auxiliary cord
I've now tested 4 different headphones, 3 of them give static at the lightest touch to the headphone jack, 1 works perfectly fine.
I've never had this issue with any phone before and I have no idea what's causing it. UHQ setting doesn't make any difference.. Is it the IP68 rubber inside that's causing it?
I haven't got any of these audio issues, but allow me to list the devices I use:
BT to Mazda 6. No issues.
BT to Sony SBH-80 headphones. No issues.
BT to LG 'sound base' LAP250H. No issues.
Wired to Sennheiser sports headphones. No issues.
What I would say with aux cables, is that the quality of the cable can be the problem. If you've bought a very cheap cable off eBay then you might want to try a better quality cable - see if you're lucky enough to test one from an audio shop but DON'T let them talk you into buying some stupid £20/$20 3.5mm jack.
For bluetooth the phone will need to recognise the device as being able to play audio. There's two bluetooth outputs detected by my Mazda; I can either have the car take audio only, phone only or audio+phone. Now obviously a bluetooth speaker should default to taking audio, but I wonder if the speaker itself is at fault?

I've tried both of our Galaxy S7 Edge and S7's and different types of audio cables and with every one of them there is a problem with poor volume level where I can max the volume on both the car stereo and the phone and there's no bass. I've even taken them to Best buy and tried them on aftermarket radios and produce the same results. The samsung rep gave me the 800 number to Samsung.
I want to know if it's a hardware or software issue.

UPDATE NOT fully solved.
Audio still really distorted and staticy in car (Honda Civic 2016, link to thread). For the JBL FLip3 speaker, here's my fix: In the S8 paired devices list, click the settings icon next to JBL Flip 3. Turn "Call audio" off. Test out music - it should sound clear now. Turn "Call audio" back on, the music still sounds clear.

Hi guys,
I am using an Australian Galaxy S8 SM-G950F, and a JBL Flip 3 portable bluetooth speaker.
I have noticed that when using the S8 with my speaker, the sound is distorted as if the treble frequencies are too high.
I can confirm portable speaker works fine with great sound using my previous phone (Galaxy S5). i paired both phones to the portable speaker and compared them together to see which caused the problem. I tested the exact same song, same quality, same app (Google Play Music) on the S8 and then the S5 and noticed the S8 sounded really bad and the S5 sounded great.
On my galaxy S8 I have not done any EQ or sound effects, I am really not sure why it is like this. I do use volume sync so my S8 volume controls the portable speaker volume.
Anyone else experiencing this? I also have the S8 inbuilt speaker fading/cutting out so I am definitely taking my phone back to get replaced. I just hope my replacement phone will not have the same bluetooth audio issue.

I guess it should be a software issue, due to Bluetooth 5 backward compatibility.

I haven't adjusted EQ, I'm trying to avoid that - my S5 with flat EQ sounds great on the portable speaker so I'd like the S8 to do the same
Just in the meantime, have you tried to unpair and restart the pairing process? (Just for the sake of absolute clarity, I'm not talking about turning Bluetooth off and then back on again.) Go to your Bluetooth connection menu, click the setting gear icon next the JBL flip 3 and select Unpair and then try again. Worth a shot perhaps?

Just unpaired and re paired now, no improvement
Also turned off media volume sync (so the phone volume and JBL volume are separate), also no improvement
Alright I've had a good play around with the speaker for a bit now and I've tried swapping between my S7, Laptop and this S8+. I played the same song through Spotify on each.
Between s7 and s8 the difference is negligible if not non existent. The s8 and laptop are indistinguishable from each other, as in they're 100% identical to my ears. I was able to instantly swap devices with Spotify as well so I was able to do a lot of fast A-B testing on different parts of the track and there was no distinguishable difference.
The s8 BT sounds fine to my ears. No complaints.
That leads me to consider that;
1. Your phone may in fact be faulty
2. It could be the speaker itself causing issues, or
3. The s5 is actually the one that objectively "worse" or otherwise different. Perhaps you grew accustomed to the sound of the s5 and anything else would sound slightly off by comparison.
Also remember that the JBL flip 3, while nice, isn't a particularly high-end speaker. Its not exactly the best system to get a solid reference from. You might want to try some other BT peripherals such as a home theater system or headset or w/e other BT stuff you have on hand.

Same problem with my Bose QC30
Problem is solved when I reboot the phone, but appears again a few hours later. Very annoying

Are you using a gear or another wearable or smartwatch at the same time you are testing with your s8? If it is..that's your problem rigth there!!
Its a known issue..so we are out of luck!

Actually I do have a wearable paired! Completely forgot. Will delete all and try.
Yea, a wearable will cause treble distortion. Quite annoying actually.

Hi guys, no improvement I'm afraid
First I unpaired my fitness band (Xiaomi mi band 2)
No improvement
Then I uninstalled xiaomi mi fit app (it was watching my notifications)
No improvement
Then I unpaired all my Bluetooth devices (1 car and 1 laptop) so only JBL Flip 3 remains
Still no improvement. I am still hearing this distorted shrill treble sound which I don't hear from S5.
I will try the sound experience of my car via Bluetooth too.

I turned off "Call Audio" in paired device settings for the JBL then tested music
The shrill sound is gone, the music sounds the same as my S5!
I then turned Call Audio back on and music is still sounding good.
I made a phonecall, sounded normal, ended the phonecall and music still sounds good. Hope this lasts!
I am just going to investigate the JBL App because I remember I once switched the button settings there to get Google assistant working. I wonder if that's what caused the problem back then?
EDIT: I also paired my fitness band back and music is still good

Just updated to Oreo the other day and that's actually when I started having the problems. I've had this S8 Plus almost a year now, and everything sounded great until the update a few days ago.
The best way I can explain it is the audio, to me, sounds over saturated.
I mainly stream Spotify via bluetooth in my car - JVC head unit, JL in-doors, 1000w Kenwood amp and 2 Alpine SWS D12s. This setup used to sound pretty damn sweet, but post-update, it sounds like garbage and I can't figure it out.
This has been an issue with many newer phones and is related to the newer bluetooth protocols in the 2017+ flagship phones, it seems. I haven't been able to figure out a solution, yet, and I've been trying for over a year. I think that most car stereos and bluetooth speakers are still on the older bluetooth protocols, and that seems to be the underlying disconnect in all of this. If one uses the latest high end bluetooth headphones with support for aptx hd and such the sound is on a whole different level unlike it is paired with my sync based Ford entertainment system or similar.
This is a weird issue that I've also experienced. To me it seems like Samsung prioritises Apt-X bandwidth over the older bluetooth audio codecs, such as SBC - which is what a lot Bluetooth devices still use. In theory SBC is capable of 'sufficiently' good sound quality, but in my experience my S8 just sounds like garbage whenever there's any other than one device connected. I did a Bluetooth HCI log and confirmed that whenever the SBC procotol was being used, my phone would just set the quality to medium despite everything I tried.
What's odd now that is post-Oreo my sound has improved and a new HCI log shows that the majority of the time I'm getting the higher quality mode. Not sure if it's coincidental that I also reset my phone completely after Oreo, or whether Samsung has fixed something... who knows.
My advice is that if you're after good quality audio, either stay away from Bluetooth or buy Apt-X or even LDAC enabled equipment. It works flawlessly with the S8. Great in principle, but not exactly an option if you have an in-built stereo!

Why is Bluetooth so screwey on Pixel 2 XL?

I thought Pie would fix this, but it's roughly the same BS, only now each device gets its own volume.. eventually.
I regularly have trouble getting BT to see a device and connect to it. It seems 10 seconds is about the fastest it will connect in a way that I can play media out of some earbuds or shower speaker.. sometimes it never completes the connection. Pretty much EVERY time, it does this strange thing where it connects with BT phone quickly, then Android jacks the volume up to 100%, THEN connects to BT media. If I'm playing something while that happens, it suddenly BLASTS OUT OF MY PHONE SPEAKERS FOR A split second or two, then comes out of my BT device.
WTF is this all about? Is anyone else seeing this? I actually see the volume slider popup, go to MAX volume, then drop back down if and when it connects media to the BT device. I don't have any "Bluetooth manager apps" installed, though it's tempting but i doubt they would fix this an likely make it twice as crazy.
Google store Pixel 2 XL 128 here on Pie, but this was also happening in Oreo.
Yea, BT on Android is a mess. Has been since 8.0 came out. They fix it with an update for some people and that update breaks it for other people. I am about done with it.
It's not much but you could use tasker plus an app like (or even as) "volume profile for tasker" ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.meridiani.apps.volumeprofile )
I honestly don't have issues with any of my Bluetooth speakers or cars. Connects just fine and remembers the volume per device just as advertised.

Same here. Bluetooth connects to my car instantly, same for my headphones.
Mine is working fine with all my devices (car, speakers, headphones).
Pie stock, no hacks.

Same here. No issues what so ever. It connects to my car, home speakers, watch and two different sets of headphones.
Mine works a treat, Much Better than Oreo...
Mine will connect with cars, but if you take a call, it drops Bluetooth music playback. The phone stays connected but no audio.
I then have to cycle Bluetooth off and on so it reconnects or reboot the radio.
It's not consistent either. Sometimes it resumes after a call and sometimes it won't. Completely random.
Also, won't connect to my car if already connected to any other device like a headphone. No way to make it favor one over the other.
Android auto has the same issues. Sometimes it works and sometimes it won't at all.

My Bluetooth connects fine, eventually, to a dozen devices. My issue wasn't with BT working or not. It's with the volume jumping up before connecting. I guess I will have to record it happening with audio so you can see how bad it is if something is playing at 50 percent vol and it jumps to full blast before switching ovrer (at which point it readjusts to the devices precious volume).
4 different BT headphones and a cheap chinese car stereo. All work perfect on Pie with individual volumes. My personal opinion is BT is much improved in Pie.
My P2XL gets ahead of itself. I just tried something: started music in my media app (GONEmad Music Player), turned on BT, on my Mac I opened BT preferences, on phone I tapped Pair New Device, and on Mac tapped on Pixel 2 XL when it showed up. Before I even entered the PIN displayed on the screen, the volume jumped up to 100%. On the phone. While playing music at 15%. I denied the pairing, but something maxed out my volume as soon as BT started ATTEMPTING to pair..... wtf!?
I'm able to re-attempt the connection, and get a new PIN presented, along with MAXED out volume each time I do that. Even without music playing the volume slider appears on the screen. I can stay in BT settings and attempt to repair to the same device, and each time (before the PIN even pops up for me to verify), the media volume maxes out, even if I jump in and change it before it disappears (meaning there's no pseudo-device which it is remembering volume for).
Here's a video of the volume jumping prior to connection (or in this case even prior to pairing happens)
The only thing is noticed is that you're connecting connecting to computers when this happens. Just tried my headphones and no such jump I'm volume.

Computers, BT shower speakers, 1 year old BT4.1 Anker ear buds, doesn't matter, same thing happens.
I just unpaired my Anker SoundBuds Curve, had music playing low, re-paired the buds, and no volume fluctuations. Can't replicate it on my end.

It works perfectly for me after the September update. Now I can call over Bluetooth again. The previous updates somehow messed the routing of incoming/outgoing calls for me. All good now. Hopefully the next security update doesn't break anything.

Ugh, thx for checking. It's like I have a service watching for Bluetooth activity and trying to outthink the OS. I disabled Tasker but same result.
i've been having some bluetooth weirdness as well. my huawei watch works fine, until i jump in my truck and my phone connects to the bluetooth in my head unit. Then it takes forever to get my watch to resync with my phone. I've reset my watch and reconnected it twice but it still seems to do the exact same thing.
Hmm ok... so I have my volume turned down on my ear buds today. Well, up on the buds, but down on the phone (disabled that BT fullblast option in Developer Options). Now I see that it's setting the volume not necessarily to MAX volume, but to the volume saved for that BT device, but it does it early... before the point where the media being played is rerouted by a few seconds. If you DO have your BT device going full-volume, then you get this few seconds of NICE LOUD MUSIC/SHOW out of the phone before switching actually routing audio to the device. It's worse if I have both Media and phone going to the BT device, as it connects the phone stream first, and thus adjusts volume immediately, then connects and routes Media a few seconds later.
I guess I just need to get in the habbit of pausing whatever I'm listening to when I switch...
