WatchOn does not work anymore? Did they remove the infra red port on the S7???? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi
I was using WatchOn a lot to remote control several devices from which my Samsung TVs. Bur it does not work on the brand new S7 Edge... am I doing something wrong or did Samsung chose to step back one more time by removing another feature???
Thx
Phil

@fastmike The S7 and S7E don't have a infrared port anymore.

Thanks Haarlem! That is too bad... each time Samsung is issuing a 'new' model they keep remove things... S5 was the best with everything including USB3. Why going backward?
Thanks again

Apparently not many people were using it so they removed it. Not sure why they still add the heart rate manitor, who uses that?

I take IR over heart rate and uv sensor anytime! Removing IR was a dumb move.

agreed..i used the IR on my S5 ALOT!

SGS4 Pedometer App for Custom Roms ?

So if I install any of the Custom ROMs is there a way I can get Samsung Pedometer App or an alternative app that works with SGS4 Pedometer, as I understand in SGS4 have a new sensor for it ?
I am from Holland and the meaning of pedo is very very bad. I got a little shock when I saw this thread.
A pedometer is a device, usually portable and electronic or electromechanical, that counts each step a person takes by detecting the motion of the person's hips
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/pedometer
Origin:
1723; < French pédomètre, equivalent to péd- (learned use of Latin ped- foot (stem of pēs ); see pedi-) + -omètre (see -o-, -meter
Pedometer used to be on old devices like SE W995.
It's just the sensor used for rotating the screen,if you want accurate calories counter then use apps like Sportstracker that use GPS,age and weight to count the calories you burn.
The only new sensor I found cool is the weather sensor so you can read ambient temp and humidity

You guys obviously have some kind of problem or maybe you are just adolescents. Everyone knows what vladimir want to ask so I really don't understand what is the meaning of such ridiculous comments. This is normal name of this app/device. There is a definition on Wikipedia.

My thought as well, it works just fine.
S health is one of the Samsung Own apps that apparently need touchwiz to work, especially the widget from s health, I haven't personally tried but I've read it wont work... because ASOP AKOP CWM10.1 don't have the Samsung framework or something for Samsung own apps...

[Q] Keyboard shortcuts?

Hi Guys!
I hope this has not been discussed and it's not a dumb question.
I just got my first android phone which is the note3. Ex-apple fanboy and man am I glad I switched!
Dont think I can ever go back to my iphone ever again.
That said, I cant seem to figure out one feature. Is there a way to create keyboard shortcuts? Ie - type omw and the phone will convert that to on my way?
I have looked online and all over in the phone and this is driving me insane!
Thanks again!

I don't actually know if there is a keyboard out there that supports it. SwiftKey doesn't and the Samsung stock doesn't either. Smart keyboard might have this feature, you can try search for it in the playstore. But if it's not that important to you, then I'd suggest to try SwiftKey instead. It's a killer keyboard and I bet it will blow your mind if you're used to Apple's keyboard

thanks for the informative post!
I guess I will have to keep my eye open for something of the sort in the future.
Out of curiousity, I thought I read about some form of screen recording function on the galaxy note, but have no yet found that either.
Is that a feature of the note3 or an app? All I can do is screenshots it seems...

The Note 3 does not have screen recording. It is not limited to hardware though, so it is possible in the future. Screen recording is built in with Android 4.4 and above, so you might see the feature in the upcoming 4.4 update for Note 3. However, it will probably not arrive until January sometime is my guess. It's also worth noting that especially Samsung is known for removing some of Androids core features and add some of their own. Therefore it's not sure that we will get screen recording with 4.4 for Note 3. With that being said, you can download an application that offers screen recording, however that require your phone rooted. Keep in mind that rooting will possibly break your warranty.

Thanks for the info! Rooting Isn't a problem, and I'm ok with the warranty thing. I actually pay a monthly fee for an extended warranty because I drop phones a lot
I wish Samsung would be more like the Nexus series!
Any programs that record the screen that you guys recommend?

I don't know any myself, I just know there are a few in the Play Store. I never had the need for it myself, so I haven't tried them out. I'd recommend searching in the playstore and looking for the most downloaded one as well as the one with most stars.

So did any one get the VR? Just want to see if it works with the edge. I know there had been some back and forth as to whether or not it would work. I ordered one and should be here today. Wasn't sure if I should expect it tow work or not.

Someone mentioned at the Gear VR forum that the Edge does not fit well inside the VR... If it is ever supported it might need some sort of adapter.
Please let us know how it goes...I also want to buy the vr.

Get a Google Cardboard, you will see more support for it than samsung VR initially. If you think you really like VR just invest that 200 towards a real headset like the oculus for the full effect.

You can probably sell it for more than what you paid for right now. Also Gear VR even with the phone is 10000x better than google glasses ridiculous price.
not sure if this helps but this article says the note edge 'fits"
http://gizmodo.com/samsung-gear-vr-review-hell-yes-i-will-strap-this-phon-1670312012
It's worth noting here that while Samsung has pointedly said that you're not supposed to try and fit the Galaxy Note Edge in here, you totally can. I mean, it doesn't "fit" in the conventional sense, but I've crammed it in a few times without breaking anything (yet). The problem is that the Note Edge doesn't launch the Oculus app when you plug it in. I'm sure there's probably some workaround but it probably involves black magic. Or at least root access.

it "fits" but there is also a software "app" that connects the Note4 to the VR whereas the edge does not
I ordered the VR... ETA: 1 week - Germany
When it comes I will either buy the damn Note4 or the Edge
Hope the app can be ported

Fake Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge_Help

Hi all,
So I basically bought fake Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge - was confirmed by Samsung service centre. Firs time in my life is a victum of scam :crying: All reported to police etc. but the problem remains - I need this phone for work. In particular, I need to use the app called "Samsung Gear 360" it works with Samsung 360 camera. The fake one has "Android 6.0.1" which does not support the app.
Question: is there a way to make the fake one to support the app? Or can I update Android 7 to this fake Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge? so I can work untill I can buy the genuine one.
Thanks a lot in advance!
thats probably different phone that looks like s7.
see what you have in model info?

Unlikely I'm afraid as it would rely heavily on Samsung framework and services, which your device is probably lacking

Not being rude, but I think there is a communication gap here. Firstly you seem to hand misinterpreted his initial post and now you are making no sense at all...
ok, so point him just 1 rom that he can flash if you are so helpful and intelligent.
answer to 1st post is:
no, you cant flash, because you dont know whats inside your phone, it could be mediatek, qualcom or whatever chinese put in.
so no app for this device

anyone got the s10+ camera apk for use om the n9?

The app looks better.
Anyone?
I believe it's pretty much the same except for that wide angle option.
I don't think we can use it on our N9's. I'd love to use it for that color pop selfie focus thing

Speaking of ports I always found it funny that folks would go through hell to Port another phone's camera like gcam but won't try to poet and upgraded version of their own such as this
Seriously thats true... it's much easy too. Should we start a request to dev thread or something.
the Instagram mode would be the main reason to port for me. would the port be possible?
Do we know any dev to whom we could ask for
I mean the mods skim and monitor these threads supposedly but they probably won't tag the people they know probably know how to Port stuff
Still wondering about this one.... Like... Gcams cool but can we get a port of our own updated software? Please?
I couldn't agree with you more.. Please any mod reply to our concern here.

I have not done a port in years. Always use to port things for my own amusement and development but after playing with the S10 camera I actually wouldn't mind it on our device. I will give it a try but I can't guarantee anything.
thank you soo much for the reply. hope you do it.. and thanks again for your help.

The Galaxy 10's camera allows you to make videos in HDR10+.
So I'd like them to port to Note 9.
First of all the S10 camera has hardware specific features. Secondly, the Samsung camera app is a system app that integrates throughout Samsung's OneUI allowing it to be used from within several Samsung applications seamlessly. Without root or the ability to first remove the stock Samsung camera, you can't install another Samsung camera whether it's ported or not, it won't be allowed to install and be given the system-wide permissions that are required for the camera to function the way the stock N9 camera does. Porting isn't the issue. It's getting around root, kernel DM-verity which will automatically prevent the phone from booting once a system app is modified and it's signature no longer matches. From my experience with this, it's simply not worth the time or effort since we have locked bootloaders and no reliable root method or ability to flash a kernel with DM-Verity disabled which would allow sytstem apps to be modified and/or replaced such as the Samsung Camera.
