Experiencing Major Reboot Issues - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answer

Let me preface this by saying this is my experience. I am passing this off to see if others are experiencing the same thing. I am not dissing this phone because I really like it.
I have seen more than 10 random reboots with this phone. The crazy part is when the phone reboots, I lose settings.... Like a lot of them. I recently experienced and my notification bar started malfunctioning where the settings would not pull up and I could not long press panels. I finally had to factory reset my phone.... After that, it rebooted again this morning while I was listening to the radio.
At this point I am going to have start a log to try to correlate where the problem might be.
This is very concerning. I have never experienced anything like this even with custom Roms.
Please let me know if anyone else is experiencing this.

I've read that other people are experiencing this too. Hopefully mine doesn't come like this. I would recommend returning it and getting a new one. This is ridiculous that this is happening

Try removing all apps you installed and see if you cant pin it down to an app but if all said and done and phone is stock meaning you installed no additional apps and still see it happen then to me sounds like a Hardware problem and you should return it for a replacement.

Unfortunately, I think you are right.

I'm having the exact same issues. Once or twice a day, usually in USA Today or IHeartRadio, it reboots. Once I experienced that loss of settings also and had to factory reset. I'm going to return the phone.

Try wiping the cache partition

Is there a way to do this on a non-rooted phone?
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk

Go into recovery mode with phone completely off .volume down+home button+power button. If that doesn't work factory reset and if that doesn't work return the phone or if possible reflash stock firmware through ODIN.

Yes, I use bluetooth to listen to IHeartRadio. I tried clearing the cache thru recovery. It did not work.

I have been watching watchespn for about an hour with my bluetooth headphones... No problem. I need to test iHeartRadio some more. With that said, I think there is a deeper issue here just because I've never seen settings get changed like that.

My Bluetooth streaming was janky got this notification and restarted the phone. Problem gone. Dunno the relevance but this was a system notification

Just switched back to iHeartRadio on bluetooth, I was coming here to read a reply so I clicked the home button and rebooted.

The beta version (6.0.0) of the IHeartRadio app seems to have fixed my reboot problem (which was happening on both bluetooth and earphone modes).
Update, it is still rebooting, even using the beta.

First reboot of the day. IHeartRadio and Bluetooth. I am already running 6.0.0 of the app.

(note that I don't typically do iHeartRadio and Bluetooth on the weekends.)

My experience was different. I didn't have any random reboot but I did get the phone just hang.
Before my Springbreak trip I was testing out a sport camera and downloaded an app that could remotely control the camera. Everything seemed to be working smoothly during the test. Then when I was done, I shut down the camera, turned off the phone and started packing up.
Then I needed to use the phone, so I turned it on.. it's turned on but I couldn't do anything, the screen was unresponsive.. I couldn't swipe or press anything... I attempted to reboot it... the power button still worked... the reboot menu came on but I couldn't press anything... I still could turn the screen on and off and brought up the reboot menu.. but jsut couldn't do anything with it..
Only one option was available which is to force it reboot by holding Power and Down volumne.
That was weird, especially on a brand new device.

I've seen it reboot a few times, and it is especially annoying when you are trying to show your device off and it reboots...in front of people...randomly. I am not sure if I want to return it just yet because it is a Touchwiz/android bug that I have experienced on other devices as well. It MAY be an app issue but I can't pinpoint it yet.
I was trying to launch my DJI Phantom app and it just hung/restarted - got stuck on tmobile screen and it wouldn't let me do a hard-reset! Had to wait a few mins and it recycled.

This is exactly what happened to mine, I was going to return it and put it on the charger and it rebooted. Knock on wood, No problems since. I'm going to keep a close eye on this in case I need to exchange.

Yes, same here. Bluetooth headset with iHeartRadio makes the phone reboot and lose some settings. Maybe a bug with iHeartRadio and 6.0.1.

Instant reboot! Amazing feature

I installed Good today which is a pretty crappy app but trying it out for work. Anyway it froze up and caused my phone to lock up. All of a sudden my phone went back to the lock screen all my notifications disappeared and my radio turned off. Seconds later the phone acted as if I had rebooted the phone. Radio come on , WiFi and Bluetooth and then apps loaded. When I checked battery you can see a big drop because of the phone being in hard lock and then there's blank line which usually means a reboot BUT it didn't. I think on the SGS3 when the phone hard locks it just reboots the system without power cycling the phone. Its genius !
My uptime in status didn't reset either.
Brilliant work Samsung.

You experienced a soft reboot. Don't credit Samsung, as it is an OS thing. Happens more than you may think and it happens on other phones.

Every other phone I've had always does a full soft reboot and I've had a lot. So whether it's Samsung or not this is the first phone I've had that does it.

Lockups since installing stock ICS upgrade

Ever since installing the ICS upgrade, my tab freezes randomly, about once a day, usually when starting an app or interacting with an app. This appears to be random and has happened with a variety of apps. When it happens, my only option is to soft reset by holding down the power button until the tablet shuts off.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts on what I should do to try to fix it? This almost never happened prior to installing the upgrade.

No problems here at all.
I did a reset on mine first, then did the update via OTA. I feel doing a reset first gives a nice clean install of the update.
I really don't mind reinstalling my apps and setting up my home screen, etc.
My tab is running like a rocket with no issues.
I used it from about 10am this morning till after 5 this afternoon without a single hiccup.
Maybe try a factory reset?

[Q] Nexus 4, Force close loop on all apps, Help?

Last night my phone was working perfectly and i didnt install any new apps yesterday so i dont know what caused this to happen...
At about 6am today i turned on my phone. it was all fine until i unlocked it. When i put in my pattern it unlocked and it showed a few of my icons for about half a second and then it came up with an error message saying that the launcher had crashed so i pressed "ok" and it came up again so i pressed "report" and then it said "market feedback agent has stopped" and went back to the launcher and came up with the first error again.
i was just thinking about a way of getting around all the errors to install a new launcher so then i could use my phone. i plugged in my earphones and used the button to start playing my music, then i unlocked my phone and quickly opened skype before the error came up again and then i went in my notifications and i could open Play Music from the notification, i had a notification for an app update so i clicked it and it opened the play store so i installed "go launcher ex" i tried going into my recent apps to change my song but it said "system ui" had crashed, i tried to get into my settings but that crashed too, i worked out that it was most of the stock apps and a few others like bbm that werent working.
device specifications:
Nexus 4
Android 4.3
Rooted
Stock rom
Stock kernal
I dont know what to do without losing everything? thank you for any help
rebooted already? This usually fixes a lot of probs.
cheers
This is happening to me to. I fix it by clearing the ram or closing all open apps. But it happens like once daily now. Any long term solutions?

same issue as here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513412
just different description... Just cleared google service framework data... will check back in on that thread after tomorrow morning and let you know if it works.
Same here. Bone stock and I don't even shut the phone off but overnight something happens to it and all apps crash. It sucks because it was my morning alarm but the clock app crashes without sounding the alarm.
If I reboot it will work perfect till the next morning, then all over again. Wiped and it still does it. Called it in and Google wasn't aware of anything so if you get this make sure and call Google so they know its widespread.
I cleared services framework and it solved it. So far, 2 days without infinite force closes

That did not fix it for me.
I got the infinite loop the next morning.
i tried re-booting but nothing happened, i had to go into recovery mode and reset my phone. now i wish i made a backup.
I haven't been getting those major crashes yet but after a while I can't open any apps or they "stop. " I think it has been happening ever since I returned to stock for the kit Kat update. Closing all the apps sometimes fixes it but that ruins my favorite part of the phone which is I can have all my stuff open all the time.

[Q] Black screen when quickly pushing lock

I'm having a bit of a weird issue with my new Verizon GS5.
Scenario: I am doing something such as reading a text, decide I'm done and lock the screen, and then a second or two later realize I forget to check something and hit the lock button again to turn it back on. Most of the time when I do this the physical buttons will light up but the screen will stay black, and a few seconds later the physical buttons will turn off. This will happen a few times until finally the screen turns on and I see the lock screen.
I had a similar issue with my Galaxy Nexus (rooted and running Kit Kat) phone prior to the GS5 and figured it was my old hardware- is this some Kit Kat bug?
Thanks for any input
Same issue here. But I can't figure out if it was due to switching to ART or not.
We can wait others reply with this i hope someone will post a tip on this kind of problem.
I switched to art after installing apps and I'm ha ing this issue didn't really play with phone much until after switching to ART. Is anyone having this issue not on ART?

Yes this is happening to me running Dalvik.
Happened just now to me. It has happened a few times.

Had this a time or two. It's like the power button doesn't register or something. Yes I switched to art.
I have found though that if I hold power for a second it pretty much fixes itself without having to do anything crazy like yanking the battery or restarting the phone.
Imo: not a big deal, doesn't seem to happen a lot for me.

This is actually becoming quite an annoyance to me and happens very often. I'm still on Dalvik. Could this be caused by an app?

I'm having the same issue for the past two days; although, I am not switching between apps or anything (only trying to use the phone). No display, but get sound/vibration from buttons and LED lights from soft keys. Unfortunately, both times required me to yank the battery. My S5 is completely stock (not using ART) and have manually reinstalled my apps from old device. Any suggestions?

I hope this isn't the case. Once again I experienced these EXACT same issues with my Galaxy Nexus running 4.4.2. I can't help but think it might be some app causing it since not everyone has it.
I am noticing this every once in a while. But it's mostly right after I shut the screen off after a large processed app or task, and then remember something I forgot to do and try and turn it back on and there is some lag bringing up the screen again.

I was about to return my S5 to Verizon for this very reason. I haven't switched to art and have been having the screen go black on me, you can tell the phone is on because the physical buttons are lit. It seems to happen to me alot when I take the phone off the charger and hit the on button. I will hear the phone rebooting, but not see the boot animation. Thats when I do a battery pull. Holding the button doesn't do it. I also have had a few random reboots. Thats ok...I'm going to try every root method under the sun..gggrrrr..lol
I've started to try to uninstall apps to see if I can narrow down the issue. It still plagues me at least half the time I try to use my phone.
This is happening to me as well. Not as often. I'd say once a day, but I have to pull my battery to restart it. I did 2 factory resets and am now using a new google account as per verizons request and I added apps slowly. I have been fine until I put a second launcher on. I installed the GEL launcher but did not use it just to see if having multiple launchers could cause this glitch. Could it be this? Is everyone else using a different launcher? Also the only time I ever had it happen while messing with the phone was two times while working in light flow. Any one else connected to those two happenings? Trying to narrow down what could be causing this.
Running ART here, I'm not sure if I'm getting this problem, but I have realized some latency from pressing either the home or power button and the screen turning on. Not sure what causes that lag, but it's a good almost full second whereas my S4 would be instant

I would assume this is NOT the physical hardware issue, but the software, I heard somewhere that Samsung version of KitKat 4.4.2 is quite buggy and glitchy.

Anyone have any further ideas yet? I'm not running ART bit I was able to have it happen again when I had Google experience launcher installed. Removed it and it hasn't happened for two days. I'm installing Google launcher again now to see if that was causing the issue.
Anyone else with further developments?

Frequent Freezing and Reboots on 4APIA

On 10/17/16 I took the OTA to take me from the July Security patch to the September security patch, with build number G935TUVU4APIA.
With in the first day of the update I experienced the phone freezing on the home screen, then rebooting. Later on I found it had rebooted while in my pocket (prompted for pin and system up time was minutes). Ever since over past 6 days it has become frozen and rebooted multiple times a day. Anywhere 2 to 5 times a day doing various different things.
I have tried clearing all system and app cache since after the update. Unfortantely that has not helped at all. So what I would like to know is anyone else on this build experiencing these reboots, or was before and fixed it?
I'm trying to determine if its a bug with this build, cause I will be really annoyed if I have to go through the trouble of a factory reset, then find out it didn't help cause its an issue with this specific build. If some other stock people can confirm this build is not rebooting for them I will give factory reset a try.

Dang that sucks, worse time for it to fail when its supposed to wake you up lol! Thanks or the suggestion but I don't think its app related since it happens on home screen, in app drawer, in chrome, and in my pocket with screen off. Unless its an app in the back ground. But I haven't installed any new in past 5 days apps that I would say are uncommon that aren't supported well.
Edit: I just checked. Since the OTA I did install 1 app the day after. The Nexia app for smart thermostat that came with my new furnace. I don't think thats it since I can recall at least 1 reboot after the OTA and before that app. But just in case I will uninstall that app for a couple days just to test. Thanks!

I had a serious freeze/lock up last night. I am on the same build and NOT rooted. I even tried holding down the power button and the phone was unresponsive. Cap. keys stayed lit the whole time. After holding down for 45 sec or so it finally relented and rebooted. But this combined with random heat surges/ups really have me pissed.
Had the same issue. On u firmware now cuz i couldnt take it. One thing that seemed to help some was removing the sd card and wiping cache then rebooting. I let it run for a few hours then put in sd card. Seemed to help alot
I'm back to follow up with the results from uninstalling the only app I installed since the update. It actually almost went 24 hours without a freeze and reboot. I was starting to think it actually was the culprit. But then I had 2 freezes and reboot today.
So I have switched back to my Nexus 6P for a while. Thanks to those who also reported the same issue! Since other people are reporting the same issue it seems to be a bug in this build unfortunately. So here is to Samsung pushing out a fix soon. Until then I will be using my 6P. If they haven't fixed it in a couple weeks then I will probably flash to the U firmware too. What variant is the U firmware from anyways? The unlocked North America variant?
I installed the update and have been running it for the past four days with no problems to report thus far. If I get a reboot or any freezing I'll let you folks know. Perhaps try a factory reset.

I get a reboot twice a day. Sometimes the phone will freeze while I'm scrolling through my internet browser or it will reboot if I'm using the SAMSUNG branded car charger and Google Maps at the same time. Other times it'll just randomly reboot out of nowhere.
This is extremely frustrating. T-Mobile recommended that I get an exchange and I did get an exchange and the same day it rebooted on me. I called complaining that it's not a hardware issue and they told me to exchange the phone again. Smh.
This sucks especially since I use GPS a lot. This phone was/is perfect before the update.

Yeah... Carriers need to train their employees to be able to know how to tell the difference between a hardware and software issue. For example if a user reports something didn't happen until a recent update, then that should be an automatic sign to not waste that customers time with a pointless exchange.
