[Q] Nexus 4, Force close loop on all apps, Help? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Last night my phone was working perfectly and i didnt install any new apps yesterday so i dont know what caused this to happen...
At about 6am today i turned on my phone. it was all fine until i unlocked it. When i put in my pattern it unlocked and it showed a few of my icons for about half a second and then it came up with an error message saying that the launcher had crashed so i pressed "ok" and it came up again so i pressed "report" and then it said "market feedback agent has stopped" and went back to the launcher and came up with the first error again.
i was just thinking about a way of getting around all the errors to install a new launcher so then i could use my phone. i plugged in my earphones and used the button to start playing my music, then i unlocked my phone and quickly opened skype before the error came up again and then i went in my notifications and i could open Play Music from the notification, i had a notification for an app update so i clicked it and it opened the play store so i installed "go launcher ex" i tried going into my recent apps to change my song but it said "system ui" had crashed, i tried to get into my settings but that crashed too, i worked out that it was most of the stock apps and a few others like bbm that werent working.

I dont know what to do without losing everything? thank you for any help

rebooted already? This usually fixes a lot of probs.
cheers

This is happening to me to. I fix it by clearing the ram or closing all open apps. But it happens like once daily now. Any long term solutions?

same issue as here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513412
just different description... Just cleared google service framework data... will check back in on that thread after tomorrow morning and let you know if it works.

Same here. Bone stock and I don't even shut the phone off but overnight something happens to it and all apps crash. It sucks because it was my morning alarm but the clock app crashes without sounding the alarm.
If I reboot it will work perfect till the next morning, then all over again. Wiped and it still does it. Called it in and Google wasn't aware of anything so if you get this make sure and call Google so they know its widespread.

I cleared services framework and it solved it. So far, 2 days without infinite force closes

Same thing happened to me today. I rebooted into recovery, cleared cache, clear dalvik cache and reboot. Been fine since.

That did not fix it for me.
I got the infinite loop the next morning.

i tried re-booting but nothing happened, i had to go into recovery mode and reset my phone. now i wish i made a backup.

I haven't been getting those major crashes yet but after a while I can't open any apps or they "stop. " I think it has been happening ever since I returned to stock for the kit Kat update. Closing all the apps sometimes fixes it but that ruins my favorite part of the phone which is I can have all my stuff open all the time.

I'm still having this problem. Did everyone else fix it or did it just go away?

You guys should try fastboot flash system... I was getting these crashes awhile back and flashing the system.IMG solved it for me. You will not loose any data either

Google maps keeps force closing

hey guys, I don't know what happened but about 30 min ago, every time I try to open Google Maps I get the Force close notification.....anybody have any ideas of how I can fix this? I tried restarting the phone and uninstalling and reinstalling updates but nothing has helped
It's happening to me too. Started about an hour ago. It doesn't happen every time, but pretty often. Since we're not alone, it sounds like google has changed something server side that's sending data that kills the client.
oh pheww.....I thought I was alone lol
not to seem like an a-hole and be happy it's happening to you....but just sayin....haha
Thanks... I was a little worried myself, I installed the wifi tethering mod earlier today and thought I might have screwed the phone up.
Weird! Just started happening to me too. Thanks god for this forum and the search button, because I almost just began the nightmare of trying to figure out which new app or kernel I installed was causing this issue. Guess ill wait now since I'm not the only one. It's probably a Google server causing a problem.....
Same here, just started a little bit ago ... I don't think I can leave the house safely if I don't have access to google maps!$%!
edit: Just a possible fix ... I uninstalled and reinstalled and so far so good...
Are you guys using a modified rom?
Sent from my 1 gigahertz quake 3 playing, Quadrant bustin telephone
I uninstalled/reinstalled didn't help, but if I use WiFi it works fine. Weird.
Me too, except worse - my entire phone freezes up and I have to pull the battery. Not an east or safe thing to do while driving. Started happening about a week ago. Anybody know why?

Have you guys tried factory data wipe and reset?
*2767*3855#
I got the crash only when WiFi was turned on . I uninstalled all the updates and am not getting it anymore.
Mine not forcing close, but a black screen "force me to shut down and boot the phone manually".
Everytime I opened google map with GPS on, the phone hanged and I needed to long press the power button to boot..
That is an issue I have seen with lag fix installed...i had to odin back to stock install lag fox then install apps...fixed all my fc issues on stock and other roms...anyways food for thought.

Updated today but still black screen when GPS is on...need to restart the phone manually everytime!!

Random soft reboot?

May be coincidence, but bought my phone this past Saturday evening, working perfectly. Decided to unlock and root yesterday, went fine, the phone was restoring my apps and it got its first soft reboot. Installed Franco kernal, was playing with it some, decided to try a complete stock 4.2.2 install. That went fine except after it was rebooting for the first time it got stuck at the 'X', so I wiped data/cache and after booted fine again. Again, as the apps where restoring it soft rebooted again.
Today HD widgets got an update, again soft reboot, so I uninstalled HD widgets and it soft rebooted again.
Is this a trend with 4.2.2? Something with HD widgets? Coincidence that it only started happening after I rooted?
The only thing I could think of is you probably undervolted too much. -100mV is good enough.

I've read some people having problems with HD widgets and 4.2+, so I'm hoping its that. The first reboot came immediately after rooting, so I was still stock. It was automatically restoring my apps when it happened.

I have HD widgets installed and had no issue so far. Try to figure out the last app (s) you installed before the reboots happened.
I definitely think HD widgets has something to do with it, I've read a few reports about it. Also it rebooted while HD widgets was updating this morning and also when it was being uninstalled. I did have an widget on my lock screen which my be a culprit.

Random Reboots

I've had 2 random reboots today, both while doing absolutely nothing......... if I called into VZW to get a replacement, it would likely be new, right?
Nevermind, called VZW, they said I could just turn it in for a new phone within the 14 days. Yay.

Nope, just standard Chrome as factory installed.
Going to go pick up another unit later today. Wondering if there are any other programs that screw this phone up......

What's NiLS? I returned it and got a brand new replacement. The new one seems a bit more snappier and no reboots yet. I headed off the automatic re-installation of all my backed up apps by turning off mobile data shortly after I got it. Once I got errors on all of them I manually added the apps I really needed.
Seems like it worked... lopped Nova launcher on it and a cool icon pack... all is cool.

another update
ok so maybe some good news here. i've been testing all day, locking/unlocking my phone and some normal random things to simulate activity. i have had zero reboot issues since i did a factory reset and zero reboots since i updated the gmail app.
HOWEVER.... the very minute i added the gmail widget to the locks creen i noticed that the widget said it was loading but didn't finish. my screen locked itself (as it should) because i wasn't touching it. So I double tapped the screen, scrolled to the gmail widget and it still said it was loading... then I unlocked it and BAM, rebooted.
after the phone rebooted i went to look at the gmail widget on my lockscreen before unlocking. everything is loaded. then when i tried to unlock the phone (im using a pattern unlock BTW) it rebooted again. Just now I removed the gmail widget from the lock screen and now I can get into my phone.
I hope this helps everyone else who is having the unlock reboot issue.
I just got LG G2 yesterday from Vodafone and today it just restarted 3 time and i think every time animation was 2 times i don't know why and i am sure the restarting started after i added gmail widget on Lock screen but now i removed the widget and now i am waiting can someone suggest a simple and permanent solution...plz

[Q] My magazine notification issue

Hi everyone,
I've been running my Note 3 with Nova Prime for the last week now and it's been great. I was able to get rid of the swipe up gesture to open My magazine. However, recently (in the last 24 hrs or so) I am randomly getting a popup notification "Unfortunately. My Magazine Here and Now has Stopped". As far as I can tell, I've gotten about 5 times now. I just press okay and it goes away, but its a little annoying because it never did this. I've tried clearing cache, restarting the phone, but it keeps coming back.
Is anyone having this issue? Did I perhaps change a setting that I shouldn't have? Or, did my phone get OTA update that I didn't know about?
Sorry, new to Android.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, this is happening to mine too. I'm also running Nova so I wonder if that has something to do with the error.

+1 for getting this error. I am running nova but the error pops up while browsing the gallery and also in a few apps. It makes the phone unresponsive for about 5 sec and then I get the notification.
I am getting this error message as well... anybody found solution to fix this? at least I would like to know what is causing this issue...
Thanks in advance!
Having the same issue
I am having the same issue as well. Can't even uninstall or disable that app.
It's start to happening to me as well and it's annoying. I never root my phone or anything. How to fix this or completely remove it? Thanks
My phone also locks up for a few seconds before it displays the notification. I getting annoying too as is happening about 4-5 times a day now while in different apps. Last night or was in waze and this morning it was in calendar.
I'm thinking of restoring my phone but I really don't want to.

Having Same Issue
I have cleared the cache and force stopped the app and still get the notification . Just started a few days ago.
I too have tried to narrow down the issue in application manager, with no luck. Really frustrating!
The solution
Uninstall FlipBoard. This worked for me. If Flip Board cannot be uninstalled, the remove the latest update.

I uninstalled FlipBoard and the error continued, it happens to me about 2 times per hour. Then the next time I rebooted my Note3, Flipboard updated itself again.
I'm not exactly sure why but I haven't had the issue for about a day now. Fingers crossed.

Same issue here. This is the crap that annoys the hell outta me. Why cant I remove this or disable it at the least. Flipboard cant be uninstalled. I removed the latest updates still the same issue. Turn off auto updating will stop the app from auto updating. Ive disabled auto updates for now, not confident that will cure the issue...
I'm having this issue as well. It's weird that it's happening even when launch the dialer to call someone. It freezes for around 5 seconds, and displays the error message.
Me too

So after being error-free for about 4 days, it's back. I've gotten the error four times already today, three of them while running waze on my way to work. Doesn't really make sense since I wasn't even handling the phone at the time.
Has anybody tried rooting their phone and removing all the magazine stuff with titanium backup?

Same problem here...new to Android
Hello. I am having the same problem here as well. I have only download a few things before I started having this crash. In fact, my phone seem to be pretty unstable with numerous things crashing, including the camera app, as well as some other camera apps. I don't really think I have installed too much, or anything crazy, but then I am just starting with Andoid, so not really sure. Just came from iPhone. Want to root...just not sure what I am doing yet. But if it will help get rid of this problem, I am game...but this is pretty uncool. Will I loose my S Pen Air Command on my Note 3? I have read conflicting reports.
Thanks!!
If anybody has any new developments, please post.
Thanks!!
I found something that works
If you open up that magazine app by swiping up, then click on the 3 lines, then uncheck every thing except social.
That worked for me!

Frequent Freezing and Reboots on 4APIA

On 10/17/16 I took the OTA to take me from the July Security patch to the September security patch, with build number G935TUVU4APIA.
With in the first day of the update I experienced the phone freezing on the home screen, then rebooting. Later on I found it had rebooted while in my pocket (prompted for pin and system up time was minutes). Ever since over past 6 days it has become frozen and rebooted multiple times a day. Anywhere 2 to 5 times a day doing various different things.
I have tried clearing all system and app cache since after the update. Unfortantely that has not helped at all. So what I would like to know is anyone else on this build experiencing these reboots, or was before and fixed it?
I'm trying to determine if its a bug with this build, cause I will be really annoyed if I have to go through the trouble of a factory reset, then find out it didn't help cause its an issue with this specific build. If some other stock people can confirm this build is not rebooting for them I will give factory reset a try.

Dang that sucks, worse time for it to fail when its supposed to wake you up lol! Thanks or the suggestion but I don't think its app related since it happens on home screen, in app drawer, in chrome, and in my pocket with screen off. Unless its an app in the back ground. But I haven't installed any new in past 5 days apps that I would say are uncommon that aren't supported well.
Edit: I just checked. Since the OTA I did install 1 app the day after. The Nexia app for smart thermostat that came with my new furnace. I don't think thats it since I can recall at least 1 reboot after the OTA and before that app. But just in case I will uninstall that app for a couple days just to test. Thanks!

I had a serious freeze/lock up last night. I am on the same build and NOT rooted. I even tried holding down the power button and the phone was unresponsive. Cap. keys stayed lit the whole time. After holding down for 45 sec or so it finally relented and rebooted. But this combined with random heat surges/ups really have me pissed.
Had the same issue. On u firmware now cuz i couldnt take it. One thing that seemed to help some was removing the sd card and wiping cache then rebooting. I let it run for a few hours then put in sd card. Seemed to help alot
I'm back to follow up with the results from uninstalling the only app I installed since the update. It actually almost went 24 hours without a freeze and reboot. I was starting to think it actually was the culprit. But then I had 2 freezes and reboot today.
So I have switched back to my Nexus 6P for a while. Thanks to those who also reported the same issue! Since other people are reporting the same issue it seems to be a bug in this build unfortunately. So here is to Samsung pushing out a fix soon. Until then I will be using my 6P. If they haven't fixed it in a couple weeks then I will probably flash to the U firmware too. What variant is the U firmware from anyways? The unlocked North America variant?
I installed the update and have been running it for the past four days with no problems to report thus far. If I get a reboot or any freezing I'll let you folks know. Perhaps try a factory reset.

I get a reboot twice a day. Sometimes the phone will freeze while I'm scrolling through my internet browser or it will reboot if I'm using the SAMSUNG branded car charger and Google Maps at the same time. Other times it'll just randomly reboot out of nowhere.
This is extremely frustrating. T-Mobile recommended that I get an exchange and I did get an exchange and the same day it rebooted on me. I called complaining that it's not a hardware issue and they told me to exchange the phone again. Smh.
This sucks especially since I use GPS a lot. This phone was/is perfect before the update.

Yeah... Carriers need to train their employees to be able to know how to tell the difference between a hardware and software issue. For example if a user reports something didn't happen until a recent update, then that should be an automatic sign to not waste that customers time with a pointless exchange.
