Play Store and Fingerprints - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Before I purchase the phone, I just wanted to know if you could make purchases in the play store using your fingerprint? I know on the Nexus devices you can and I thought it was a feature that was being implemented in Marshmallow. Hopefully Samsung tapped into Google fingerprint API's finally. Anyone care to help me out here?

Yup.

If you use PayPal app the fingerprint thing seems broken.

I can live with that for the time being. It's probably an issue on PayPal's end. The Play Store, however, is the more important aspect of the fingerprint functionality for me.

I have not tried to buy anything yet. The setting is there.

Same here.

yes in the latest google play update you have the option to enable fingerprint for purchases

It is definitely a prob on PayPal's end. I have several Banking Apps with Fingerprint Login - works perfectly on the S7 Edge. As I read in other forums (i know, i know, THIS is the one and only forum! ), they had the same prob with the Galaxy S6 Edge+ . Sit and wait... for an update to come :-/

I made a purchase on the Play Store using fingerprint security on the S7. It worked flawlessly.

[Q] I can't use Google wallet if I am rooted?

This is my first time having an NFC device, so please bear with me. I rooted my phone the evening I received it. Now I'm trying to set up Google Wallet, and it says that my device is unsupported. In the help topic regarding this message, it mentions something about rooted devices being unsupported due to security reasons, can I still use this feature? Is it discouraged in any way?
If anybody has some insight or experience with this, I'd like to know.
I have the evo lte rooted with same unsupported device message, yes it will still work

The reason it is discouraged is because anyone (with the now-how) can brute-force access your pin if your phone is rooted. And then skip away making payments on goodies.
What would be the chances of someone getting that close to you, they would have to be pretty much hugging you

Any place that has tap-to-pay or pay-pass features (forgot what the actual name is). I've seen it at McDonald's, CVS/Walgreens, Best Buy, and a few other large chains around town.

Plenty of you fly to Japan and China, they have been using it for years. You can try looking up PayPass mechant, such as this link: http://www.google.com/wallet/how-it-works/in-store.html
So it doesn't have to be specifically for google wallet? They work on the things like the speedpass at speedway or your creditcard where you just tap it to the machine and it gets your infO?

Awesome! Looking forward to trying this out in the next few weeks. Hope I remember to try it when I see it...
I tried to use this at Walgreens today. They had the translucent blue PayPass terminal. I sat there for about 30 seconds and nothing happened. I even tried to enter the app and still nothing. NFC was on, and my card is attached in Google Wallet.
I think I set up wallet, then unlocked and rooted, then had to re-set up Wallet. Am I doing something wrong? The clerk was staring at me like I was crazy, just holding my phone next to the terminal....

I had that happen at Taco Bueno. And a McDonalds. But at some McDonalds it works. I think that so few people use this system that when its broken no one complains. And its probably never even tested when they set it up.
Typically you can just tap your phone to the thing (no need to be in the app). It'll prompt you for a PIN. Then you can pay.
If it's not working you may have a poor data connection? I think it requires data to work.

I'd still say it's more secure than that. Anyone can swipe a card and charge it as credit. Relatively few people would know how to brute force hack google wallet on a rooted device.
Everyone.
Google wallet does not require a data connection.
If its not working , I read on the wallet website to "hold it about an inch" from the terminal. Without placing it on the terminal. Try to see if that works.

Yeah mine didn't work at the gas station the other day, though I didn't log out of Google Wallet before I flashed a rom and rooted recently so some say that it'll never work again after that because of the secure element getting locked or something like that. Hopefully that's not true.
I've flashed and reflashed a lot. All you need to do is delete the data, connect to high speed internet like WiFi, then open it up. Worked for me.

Apps supporting finger print scanner

Curious to know what apps support finger print scanner..
I know of only Android pay and pay store...
Wish roboform supports it
Apple Pay and Samsung pay also. Jkjk I would like to know too.

Yes, this is excellent!
I am sure you are aware of the play store allowing your finger print to verify app purchases.
Safeincloud works well as an alternative to lastpass.

Nine Exchange email app.
Why are devs so behind on this? I'm looking at HSBC, ebay, Amazon, PayPal etc. Practically any app that needs to authorise payments.
And seriously, Google ought to give guidance to devs on this by emphasising this being an obvious hardware direction that Google is going down, by putting it in their nexus devices. .

Anyone take the update from T-mobile on 5/4/2016?

I am hesitate to update the phone, but do not know how to get rid of the notification. How is the post performance after the update? Would this make it harder to Devs to work on unlocking bootloader?
No noticable difference. Seems like the battery is lasting longer, but this is just taking off the charger at 7am this morning to 1130am right now, and with normal email/text and streaming music, with all on push, I am at 91%.
Oddly, it feels a little snappier. not sure on the bootloader tho. Honestly, I am so dependent on SP, that I have not rooted the S7e or the S6e. Love that feature enough to deal with other cons.

Same here. Use SP almost everywhere.
Battery seems worse for me. Couldn't care less about Samsung pay. It did enable FM radio.
Sent from my SM-G935T using XDA-Developers mobile app
No problems so far, battery seems about the same. You have to download a FM radio app of your choice from the play store to get FM and use your wired headphones for the antenna.
Battery was worse and phone started heating up very quickly after the update. Quick clearing of the cache partition in recovery seems to have done the trick though.
Anyone using the adb mod to enable internal storage and accepted an OTA? Does the update revert the mod or mess up an SD card setup as internal storage in any way?

There is one issue I have found which is I now have to enter pin instead of fingerprint because of security policy. People on Verizon also experienced the same issue.

I am able to unlock screen with fingerprint after update. Qurious thing was if I used a screen off app, I would have to enter the pin to unlock. If the screen times out or if I manually lock the screen with the power button, it will accept my fingerprint to unlock. Fingerprint also working with Samsung Pay.
I just updated but dont see the FM radio app. how do you access it?

Never updating
I took it (without root, I've kind of surrendered and decided to see what a mindless conformist feels like :/). I gotta say, it has dramatically improved battery while inactive. I had misplaced it yesterday morning and when I found it in the late afternoon, it has only used 1% of the battery (at 99%). That's the second time I've noticed it.
I have to enter my pin after a reboot, but my print works fine after the initial entry, same as before the update.

Samsung Pay on S8

Has anyone gotten Samsung Pay to work on their S8?
I open mine and hit start, the loading circle appears and nothing happens... ever.
I've uninstalled, reinstalled, cleared cache/memory, restarted the phone, tried wifi, allowed permissions on app and framework.
All results are the same.
The only other thing I can think of is reformatting the phone, but I'd rather not do that if everyone else is having the same problem. If that's the case, I'll wait for an update.

Haven't used it for actually paying yet but didn't have any trouble setting it up though and was able to add multiple cards (Visa, AMEX) too.
PS: Any review on the magnetic strip payment works on Samsung Pay (in general, not just S8)

Besides Discover cards (as I personally don't have any and honestly, not sure if they're compatible), I've had no issues adding multiple cards.
As for MST payments, for the most part, I've had luck paying for items. Only a few times, it didn't work, for whatever reason. People are usually amazed when it works at places without the NFC terminals. XD

Oh damn can't wait to try.. And yeah I know the feeling of using contactless to pay... I still remember when I was in Ireland just over a month ago and used NFC to pay there and they were so surprised since most had never seen that form of payment before. Heck, they didn't even know their terminals were capable of that.
While in US NFC payment is no longer uncommon, I am sure MST would get a lot of amazed looks. Have to try

Haha yep, give it a shot. Yeah, there's a lot of places that don't have NFC terminals still (actually, let alone chip terminals... but that's getting more and more common by the day), which is EXACTLY why I prefer Samsung Pay over Android Pay and Apple Pay. While the latter 2 will be good in the future, as well as Samsung Pay, but for the transition period, Samsung Pay is king.
Did a factory reset and it then worked. This time, FWIW, I only set up a PIN and then let Samsung Pay setup my finger print. HTH

Don't be a jerk. I understand this issue may be frustrating you but don't allow that frustration to cause you to be rude to those trying to help you. I've actually got both my Samsung Wireless Ear Buds and my Frontier watch synced and connected to my 6T. During the process I was actually led to the pages to install what I needed. I'm between classes right now. Let me get home later this afternoon and walk you through it. I can PM you or just post it here in case anyone else needs to see the info.
