Do you need to run Touchwiz for Edge display features? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hi,
I have never used one of the edge phones before, and was wondering if the display notifications on the edge of the screen only work with Touchwiz?
i normally use nova launcher on my S5 and was wondering if i will lose out on any features if i continue to when buying the S7 edge?
Cheers

AFAIK, the edge notifications are only available with screen off, with the screen on you get the default heads up notifications of android 6.0, so no, they aren't launcher dependent. But you'll need a stock based ROM though (which anyways isn't a case atm, because there aren't any others, but still).

Using Apex launcher with full edge functionality without issues.

Why install Nova or Apex? Are they faster? What do they offer what Touchwiz does not? I personally don't like the way Touchwiz/icons looks but saw you can make it look like stock Android 6 with a simple theme change.

Grid size/number change on app drawer and home screen, all widgets resize possibility, put one widget under the other one (cross them), a lot of beautiful themes/icon packs that touchwith don't have, ios 6 like folders design, transparent status bar, animation...
BTW, Miui ROM has amazing design, so there is MIUI 5 and MIUI 7 - ICON PACK by tung91 on Play Market with hundreds miui icons. The first one is free and it´s similar to donate version.

Yes obviously

Most lightweight and fast launcher...any recommendation?

So far, I have tried Apex, Google Now, Nova, and Smart Launcher 2; however, none of these are as smooth as the built-in TouchWiz Home. I like to keep my homescreen simple with a nice wallpaper and four mostly used app icons at the bottom. What I hate about TouchWiz Home is that it puts that ugly page indicator right in the middle even if you just have one page. Since I'm not rooted (AT&T), there is no way to get rid of it. So, are there any launcher that is very lightweight and fast?
Heh... this is the first guy who says tw is smoother than nova or apex
I have Apex, Nova, ADC, and have tried a bunch of others. Experienced using them on my ASUS tablet so they aren't new to me. I'm still using TW on my Note4 because I don't want to lose functionality of some stuff, most notably s-pen. Oh... and paid versions of all of those if there is a paid version. I guess I'm not after something that people will envy when they see it. I just want to learn to use all the stuff my new phone can do! heheheh.... coming from a moto Razr. I tried Themer and I really like the concept, but it was a bit overwhelming. Maybe I just need to spend time with it. My s-pen still worked but I didn't explore what DIDN'T work, so... *shrug* .... still on TW.

Trust me...after disabling bunch of craps on my Note 4, TW launcher actually has been very smooth for me.

Correct me if I'm wrong but you loose nothing with nova. S-pen works perfectly there. I didn't find any differences.

How about lightning launcher. The only problem I have with it is the app drawer can be a bit slow to launch. Otherwise, as the name suggests, lightning fast and ultra customisable!
Nova

stock touchwiz is the best. nova was super laggy when i tried it. stock touchwiz has no lag once you switch animations/transitions etc off in developer options.
I always used Nova on my previous devices (s2, s4).
For now on my note 4, I'm still on TW...
There were some reports here on xda that TW gives the best battery life... [emoji15]
Nova.
Since SGS2 through SGS4 and N4 now i`m using Go Launcher EX and it`s the best, the most featured, most customizable launcher in my opinion and btw i don`t have any regrets for speed/lags.

then I choose customizability and functionality over the few % of battery life.
Nova. Have never experienced lag. Maybe it's because I have Aggressive Desktop selected. S-Pen works fine with it, too. Didn't really give TW a shot because I love the gesture control and infinite scrolling on Nova. I swipe up to open my house alarm app and double tap to turn off the screen. Also, holding the Recents button brings up a sub menu that links to Nova settings, system settings and app list, rather than just settings for the launcher. And just a theory, but I think "OK Google" hotword detection with the screen off works better with Nova.
I've usually stuck with Nova, but find myself using TW for the Note 4. I've purchased Nova and Apex. For fast light launcher, use Hola. It's still installed on my Note 4 while Nova got the boot already
Whilst I'm another Nova fan, and TW this time is pretty decent, I'm a converted Dodol user. Very fast and light (85mb for two screens) even with themes and gestures and many other customisation options. Also has some nice built in widgets.

For light use smart launcher is the pinnacle of light, and remarkably easy to use, however using the GEL has to be my favourite, different strokes for different folks though. Used apex and nova for years, have both pro versions, apex for me is the better of the two. I also have the spb shell 3D, quite heavy, loads of eye candy, also very expensive and hasn't had an update in years. So much potential though.
If you decide to install cm12 then launcher 3 with lollipop is fantastic, I wouldn't swap it.

I originally tried Themer with my HTC One and also thought it was overwhelming. But really just don't like TW so I tried it again and spent a weekend setting it up. Wow! I love it. I easily customized a theme, and lag is minimal. It has gesture control and I've completely eliminated the bottom bar as I use Swapps sidebar. All Spen functions are working.

Note Edge Launcher?

Hi guys, is there a way to get Note Edge launcher on Note 4 (without the "edge sidebar")? I think that, with a grid of 6x4, It would looks perfect on our device.
Here is a screenshot (but the official grid is 5x4)
Just use nova and create it. I don't think it's possible due to the idea that the dock on the side of the edge

You can't reach those results with Nova.
Anyway we don't need the side dock. On the lower corners there are the Phone app and the app drawer shortcut; it's like a slimmed dock. That's all we need.
I like the Note Edge's Launcher too. Why? Because it has a cleaner look.

What is your launcher ?

Hi,
what launcher are you using? I have moved back to nova. Anyone like to share their as well.
To be honest I'll probably stay on stock for just a bit, then on to action or nova.. Right now I'm just stock with apps bar running, and this thing is snappy! There are a few things I miss, but really apps bar makes up for a lot.

I have bought Nova Prime, have not used it yet. Stupid question as I do not know much about launchers , doe the Nova Launcher prime replace or disable touch wiz?

What launcher do you use

Touchwiz is a bit more refined than the resource hog it was a number of years ago but it's still not good enough.
I've tried them all and always go back to Nova Launcher, it's definitely the best of them all IMO.
I use touchwiz and nova, can decide what is best?
Nova here. Love my home screens full of things and using the device screen res to it´s full...

Usually end up using nova prime, but I'm surprised with the level of customization Sammy has embedded in this version of TouchWiz. Plus having 5×5 and themes is all I really need

The best launcher in my opinion is TotalLauncher. It was sslauncher before and it's Fer months new.
Best is that you are not limited by grid, widgets can overlap, you can launch them in window and lot of thing like resize by milimeters or rotate everything. Works even better with zooper another customization stuff.
No one else launcher have such a posibilites. It's like apple versus android. Normal launchers are plus minus like apple and this launcher is like android. You can change everything.
But my question because my edge plus will come tomorow...with custom launcher will be edge features working? Like edge apps edge people?

Launcher

In viewing screenshots from across the S7 Edge forums I see that a number of users area apparently using the stock Launcher.
I've been a long term Nova user --- Just wanted to see if I am missing something from the experience in not suing the stock Launcher on my new S7 Edge ??

Personally I don't think you're missing much. I am also a long-time Nova user, but every couple of months I switch back to the stock launcher for the same reason; to see if I'm missing anything. Haven't yet found any reason to stay with stock and I always switch back to Nova with in a day or so.
I also use Nova, it provides so many extra features that Touchwiz does not. I would stick with Nova.

The sole reason I stick with the stock launcher is the S-planner widget...
