Note Edge Launcher? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, is there a way to get Note Edge launcher on Note 4 (without the "edge sidebar")? I think that, with a grid of 6x4, It would looks perfect on our device.
Here is a screenshot (but the official grid is 5x4)

Just use nova and create it. I don't think it's possible due to the idea that the dock on the side of the edge

You can't reach those results with Nova.
Anyway we don't need the side dock. On the lower corners there are the Phone app and the app drawer shortcut; it's like a slimmed dock. That's all we need.

I like the Note Edge's Launcher too. Why? Because it has a cleaner look.

One handed use limitations like notification bar

I am strongly considering the Note II. I know one handed use isn't really ideal, but you do need to do that occasionally. One issue I can see is bringing down the notification window. Are there any shortcuts to doing this? Any other times that one-handed use seems like a PIA?
Thanks!
Well you can replace Touchwiz launcher with something like Apex which has gestures, for example swipe down and notification bar will come down or double tap etc.
Not sure of a similar gesture based app exists that works with Touchwiz.

I do this onehansed with no real issue. I would say I have average size hands. Might be difficult with small hands. I have to stretch to reach all the way across the screen onehanded, but it isnt impossible. I will say note2 is more comfortable for this than note1

Agreed, a replacement launcher is sensible anyway, given how horrid Touchwiz is (personal opinion, I know), so something like Apex or Nova (my choice) gets around this. With Nova a simple downwards-swipe anywhere brings down the notification menu.

will i lose any of S-pen functionality/
GMD Gesture is an app that lets you cray your own features that work any where. I got it originally for my tablet, but now use it on my galaxy nexus too. Works great. Waiting for the note 2 to hit states.

Does anyone else feel a little mislead about the edge panel?

I really like my Galaxy Note Edge so far but I feel a little mislead by Samsung about the nature of the edge panel. From all their demos, specs, etc., they said the panel was an extra 160 pixels which was used to display information but in reality it partly overlaps with the main display and cuts off the side at the times.
Does anyone else find this annoying?

I always use Nova Launcher, but in this particular phone we need to use TouchWiz, for the full experience... Pressing Home button with Nova Launcher is not the same as pressing home on TouchWiz... For the first time... I am actually using TouchWiz (and I like it, lol) but we need at least the 5x5 / 5x4 / 4x5...mods...

As in the "galaxy Note Edge" text? You can change it. In the edge panel there's the ^ at the bottom. Swipe up, the settings (gear) icon will appear. Click on that and then go to personal message.

How do you mean home is not the same?
When I press home on Nova, it takes me to home, more specifically my center desktop

I think you have it backwards. The screen is 5.6inch the edge panel adds to that
So it's not overlapping it. When the edge panel is not in use it let's the screen use that space.
I think you're alone on that one brother..
Uhhh...let me think...Nope

Not at all. The more I use it I find myself saying: why was this not here before? The only issue I have is that samsung themselves dubbed this a "limited concept" phone. This may make developers slow to allocate resources and man power to get more panels created faster.
I would hope developers would play around with it just because it exist and to see what they can do with it.

I have Nova Installed and when I click the home button, both the main screen and edge screen goes to my home screens respectively
Sorry OP, I don't really feel mislead. That is, of course, unless you count the fact that it has exceeded my expectations as being mislead in to thinking it wouldn't be as good as it is.

Depending on the feedback Samsung gets on it, it could be a feature that finds its way in to more phones in the future. Developers that start working on tweaks, apps, and other enhancements will have a decent head start on others that ignore it, should this take off. I hope that is enough incentive to put some resources towards it.
Having used this phone for just shy of a week, I already feel like the edge screen is a feature that has a good chance of gaining some traction.
I think what TEKHD is saying is that the edge acts like a dock when using TW: it is always available. On other launchers, it acts as it does when an app is launched: hidden until properly rubbed.... could be wrong.

Im pretty sure it's just a different format of dock with swipe abilities.
I've looked at the sdk samsung released, but I've yet to try anything yet.
Looks like just about anything can be added there given some smali tweaks. But I've not gotten the phone yet to try. Coming soon I hope

Launcher/Interface discussion.

I have been reading a lot of negative comments on the launcher in some of the reviews I have read and thought a discussion of features and quirks might be a good topic.
Personally I have been a TouchWiz fan for a while but lately I have been using Nova. I really like the Asus' customization abilities. If you are in the app drawer, you can click on the 3 vertical dots in the upper right of the screen. There you can change all sorts of characteristics of the drawer like grid size and folder icon options.
Anyone figure out how to change the icon grid for the home screen?
Personally, I use and recommend ActionLauncher 3. Best Lollipop launcher available, IMO! The QuickTheme feature is brilliant and the side drawer is faster than navigating through drawer pages.
Pretty sure the asus launcher doesn't allow changing the grid size.
Just got mine yesterday, but been using Google Launcher. Coming from a Nexus 5, and a Nexus 4 before that, it's what I'm used to. That being said, I'll probably switch to nova launcher, because there are a number of Asus apps you can't get rid of. So I'll use nova launcher to just hide the from the app drawer, and it will be like they don't exist!

I have been using Nova Launcher on all of my phones for along time.. Decided to try out Action Launcher 3 that rlaw recommended and after trying it out a bit, it just became my new launcher (paid the $5 for the plus version).
I really like the screen swipe to bring up the quick app list (instead of digging thru the app drawer) and the Shutter function in the paid version is really neat take on folders. It also has the ability to hide apps like nova launcher has..
I recommend checking it out, it has the best features in the plus paid version but IMO it's worth it to support apps that make my experience better :good:
I was using nova launcher prime up until I got this phone, and the only thing making me want to switch back is that I could have 6 apps in the dock on nova. On a screen this size, you'd think they'd let you do that.

What is your launcher ?

Hi,
what launcher are you using? I have moved back to nova. Anyone like to share their as well.
To be honest I'll probably stay on stock for just a bit, then on to action or nova.. Right now I'm just stock with apps bar running, and this thing is snappy! There are a few things I miss, but really apps bar makes up for a lot.

I have bought Nova Prime, have not used it yet. Stupid question as I do not know much about launchers , doe the Nova Launcher prime replace or disable touch wiz?

Do you need to run Touchwiz for Edge display features?

Hi,
I have never used one of the edge phones before, and was wondering if the display notifications on the edge of the screen only work with Touchwiz?
i normally use nova launcher on my S5 and was wondering if i will lose out on any features if i continue to when buying the S7 edge?
Cheers
TRI
AFAIK, the edge notifications are only available with screen off, with the screen on you get the default heads up notifications of android 6.0, so no, they aren't launcher dependent. But you'll need a stock based ROM though (which anyways isn't a case atm, because there aren't any others, but still).
Using Apex launcher with full edge functionality without issues.
Why install Nova or Apex? Are they faster? What do they offer what Touchwiz does not? I personally don't like the way Touchwiz/icons looks but saw you can make it look like stock Android 6 with a simple theme change.
Grid size/number change on app drawer and home screen, all widgets resize possibility, put one widget under the other one (cross them), a lot of beautiful themes/icon packs that touchwith don't have, ios 6 like folders design, transparent status bar, animation...
BTW, Miui ROM has amazing design, so there is MIUI 5 and MIUI 7 - ICON PACK by tung91 on Play Market with hundreds miui icons. The first one is free and it´s similar to donate version.
Yes obviously
