Is removing bloatware necessary

Guys I just factory reset my note 10.1 2014...it was very laggy after reset but within minutes of usage it became extremely fast...no need to root and remove any bloatware .even s note app became fast and writing is very responsive...although reseting was a pain in ass..backing up bla bla....but it really is worthy....I just removed widgets from my home screen...there is no need to install any third party launcher...touchwiz itself is very responsive now..hope it help you guys..trust me..it really works...I m on mk1

I mainly rooted because you can use multi screen and the pen window with any app and as many apps as you like. Also bloat ware takes space so nice to free up the space if I don't use it

I think when people say removing bloat speeds up their systems is the just the placebo effect. In most cases bloatware has no impact on performance, where is does, it can be disabled. An example is this is Story Album, which can run in background trying to put together an album. But if you disable the app, it doesn't do that. Removing bloatware also doesn't add usable space in most cases since bloatware is typically located in the system partition. Unless you also resize the partition, which users typically even know how to do, the freed up space is still not usable.

Just nice to uni stall apps you never use and never will use

I also found my magazine used battery and was always using cpu in the background. I froze my magazine and just use the flip board app saving battery and cpu

No i just disabled some of the features like the eye tracking stuff, didn't actually remove them. Runs buttery smooth for me.

i installed nova launcher and set the window animation / transition / animator duration scales to off - and now i have no lag - i usually root all my android devices with custom rom and kernel but because there are not any for this tablet - i haven't even bothered rooted it - but if you change the launcher and set the scales to off there is no lag at all - and yes disable the eye tracking etc. stuff

Not necessary but recommended, at least turn off what's not really needed.
I've rooted to add more apps to multi window which is a great feature.

I have owned 3 samsung tablets in succesion and everytime I disabled apps it has speed up the device a bit. Not that there was lag before it just felt like new after debloating.

I've actually been on a "no-root November" experiment since the Note 2014 and S4 aren't root-friendly. TBH aside from having Touchwiz I've noticed no real impact.

May i ask what your update procedure was?

Some of Samsung's default programs really do suck balls. Their stupid index service caused infinite boot reloops because it takes forever to scan large pdf's. My Magazine has also gone haywire on me many times.
This is all stuff that requires a software update but none has come. Samsung tries to make powerful bloat but the tradeoff is that you get crap like an index service that gets stuck looping and sets your CPU to 100% and bleeds your battery dry in an hour.
Thanks but no thanks. I am waiting until a few months before voiding my warranty (or hopefully not and someone finds a way around knox).

What update procedure are you asking about...I never rooted..I got three updates out of the box..

I sleep better at night knowing I disabled Knox on my tablet. So it was emotionally necessary for me.
I rooted so I could have virtual buttons and more control over my tablet. I went from wanting to break the tablet in half to loving it because of rooting. No regrets.

But the speed-up effect is mostly a placebo. Also the effect on the battery will be insignificant. At least the data I check on my Note. So, I would say that this is not necessary.
And not everything Samsung put on the device is bloatware.

i see your point but it is better to remove it if u dont use it i have a SGS4 LTE and i love to remove the bloatware because now i have a faster phone and a longer battery life than the Stock ROM with the bloatware

When someone has this expression then I already agree to remove it. But I still believe that removing the bloatware didn't make the tablet faster or the battery cycle longer.
But I am also sure that many people with bloatware many system functions they don't use and here you can most of them disable without removing anything.
So, when the question is if it is necessary to remove then my answer is still: Surely not.
PS. Its for me like the usage of all this task managers to kill processes. I mean we didn't live any longer in the 80ies and nobody will be manually better then Android in resource management. But still many Android users believe in the HOX that this fast their devices.

I mean when you here flame then you should also have arguments. And maybe you should quiet down a little bit because then you would see that rooting is something complete different then removing bloatware.

[Guide] How to get the most out of your brand spanking new G3!

Just thought I’d put a short guide together on what I think are some things to do to get the most out of your spanking new LG G3 when you get it or you already have it. Most of you guys might already know most of this or might not. Just thought it might help some people. This ain’t rocket science but every little bit helps!
Battery:
This is the hardest thing to do because like a fingerprint everyone has a different set up with apps and how they use their phone (wifi vs 3g vs 4g etc) that screen on time will always vary. Also you don’t want to turn everything off and cripple your brand new smartphone just for your battery. There’s a balance.
However here are some general things to do that do help:
1. Install Greenify from the Playstore. I have found this is the number one way to stop drainage. This app will hibernate apps when not in use. It doesn’t stop their functionality at all but hibernates them.
2. Don’t use Google Now. I think it’s a gimmick and does bugger all for me however if you use it it will drain your battery big time. Of course if you love it then use it!
3. Don’t use location services. Another big drainer. Just use it when you need it. However if you have apps that need it then of course leave it on!
4. Use ‘auto’ on screen brightness. Mine is on ‘auto’ but at 100% and the brightness is perfectly ok for me.
5. If you continue to get big drainage then download Betterbatterystats from the Playstore and look at the ‘wakelocks’ – this way you will be able to see what’s draining your battery. As a general rule your phone should go into deep sleep for at least 80% of the time.
With this phone I am getting around 5 to 5.5 hours Screen on Time. You should be getting around that too.
Performance:
Here are a few things only that really do help with speed and performance:
1. The whole thermal throttling thing is a pain i.e. LG’s decision to turn down brightness when it gets hot. However there is something you can do and which I have now done for two weeks with no adverse problems. Turn it off! Put this in the phone app: 3845#*400# and then scroll down to 'high temperature property' and switch to enable and do the same for 'thermal daemon mitigation'. Please note my model is ‘400’ so this will work in the number sequence above. For models with other numbers I am pretty sure you just substitute and put that number in e.g. 855.
2. Go to Dev Options and change the transition animation scale, the animator duration scale and the window animation scale to 0.5. This little thing speeds up your phone like nothing else.
3. Root your phone with towelroot. One click root! And then start debloating. Get rid of whatever you want by downloading Titanium Backup and going into each app and freezing whatever you want. Freezing is safer than uninstalling but does the same thing. Debloating is a must!
4. So once rooted then start using xPosed modules by downloading and installing the xPosed framework and then rebooting.

And donate something to him! This allows you to change so much with this phone. I dunno where to start. It is superb.
b. I dislike the LG skin so immediately download the Google launcher – to me it is the fastest launcher out there beating Nova and Apex. This launcher cannot be customised however there is a fantastic xPosed module that allows you to customise everything - Xposed Gel settings located here:

I can’t think of anything else but these things definitely help.

Ha yes someone's got to donate! They do so much and get so little.
Yes the only reason I said bbs is because I'm used to it. Gsam does the same thing essentially.
Yes from what I read towelroot should work.
Greenify hibernates an app in the background if you are not using it whilst freezing apps effectively uninstalls them without the pain of then being actually uninstalled. And you can unfreeze them any time.

Didn't you mean volume down and power button? Is rather easy to do compared to other phones because it only takes 1 finger (pun intended)

If you turn off the "Ok Google" listener you will save most off the battery drainage, I find Google Now pretty handy.

Yes I've debloated some but just the safe ones. There's heaps there though.

Is there any danger turning off the thermal thingy. Could the phone completely overheat?

I'll just confirm for anyone wondering that indeed the turning off the thermal throttling does work by changing the device model number to "855" on the UK version
No adverse effects in last half hour or so and have been trying to run demanding tasks to see how it go's

You can uninstall all of the bloat without any issues. It also helps with your battery life. I usual get 4 hours of screen time post charge. That's more than most people can get on a stock kernel, and it's great for a 2k display.

Go to settings, General, About phone, Software information and tap on the build number 7 times. Then go back to General, scroll down and you'll see Developer options.

Samsung services and bloat

So i have a few questions for you previous Samsung owners out there. Primarily S6 owners.
Guess we all know these handsets comes weighted down in bloat and services nobody ever use.

initial boot my T-Mobile Note5 is running around 100 processes. For comparisons sake, my Nexus 6P has around 40 running processes on boot.

How far did you guys get with root and xposed? How much bloat and services are you able to remove/disable? And most importantly, does it have a positiv effect on the handsets performance?

I can't speak for most as I wasn't really Into modifying my s6 edge plus. But the reason for that was it was the most smooth galaxy I ever had. So smooth I never used the close all apps button. Would reset it maybe once a month. Before that I used to play with roms like a flashaholic. I've owned every samsung galaxy device back since the epic and they all needed tweaking til I had the edge plus. I am a very multitasking heavy user btw.
Later down the line I did root though. Simply for adblock and to block youtube video ads via xposed. No bloat removal. Since u can disable most eyesore bloat already without root. (Tmobile user btw. Hear Verizon has the bad end of the stick on bloat)

Helpful, thanks! So you never felt the services and bloat apps stole resources you could put to use elsewhere, as the phone comes with enough resources to handle anything you throw at it?
Owned a LG G2 and G3, and remember getting very annoyed by apps and services running that i never used.

Yep, 4gb of ram is a lot. Aside the powerful cpu, the 4gbs really is what makes a difference imo

I have the Note 5 and the Nexus 6p - from a performance basis - anecdotally - I can't tell much difference between the two - they are both super fast - tons of memory - and so on.
Benchmarks (for what they are worth) I get slightly better results on Antutu with the Nexus than I do with the Note 5 - but they both do exceptionally well -86.000 to 90,000.
I am running a heavily modded TW rom on the Note 5 and CM 13 on the nexus.
Both are rooted - both running xposed - Samsung Bloat has been removed by the Rom Createtor - TEKXodus HYBRID but there are obviously more things in the Note 5 *(Samsung things) than Google put into the Nexus 6p
I don't know if that answers your questions or not - I am not a developer so I can't give you a big technical breakdown on the comparisons - just my anecdotal experiences... hope it helps.
By the way - I CAN'T WAIT for the S7 Edge - really excited about this one - bloat and all! LOL In my view, NO ONE makes smartphones as good as Samsung!

I read somewhere that Samsung was aware of bloat and lessening bloat on the S7 lineup. Obviously we won't know until they arrive to our doors.

I have a Note 5 and will be moving the the S7 Edge. I have not rooted the Note 5 as I wanted Android Pay to work. However I did but the app Package Disabler Pro (Samsung) for $1.95 and you have full control to disable any apps without rooting the phone. I had moved from the N6 to the Note 5 when we switched to T-Mobile a few months ago and the Note 5 is the smoothest phone I have ever had. Plus after setting up I have never had to charge the battery mid-day, averaging over 18 hours with 4 hours screen time and 25% still remaining. I have jump on demand so I wanted to get the newest thing. Can't wait to see what the S7 Edge can do.

Package Disabler Pro without root ftw! It really does boost battery life and reduction of lag, big time. Just need to figure out what not to disable (when using "disable all bloatware") to be able to use Samsung Pay. *also untick mms cause that will prevent mms from sending/receiving.

Here is a link to the Note 5 where there is an XML file that can be loaded for Package Disabler Pro. I used this on my Note 5 as a starting point and removed a few of the items that I wanted to still be able to use. I am planning to use my current setting on my S7 Edge when I get it in a day or two.

I'm using PDP and now when I back completely out of an app using the back button, I get a "all apps associated with this action have been turned off blocked or are not installed" message. I've read that this will happen with disabled apps. Can someone tell me what I disabled that would affect the back button? It doesn't matter what app I use, I get the message.
***EDIT*** Luckily when I started enabling one by one, I didn't have to go too far to find it is the Briefing package- flipboard.boxer.app * Just in case someone else has this issue.

You can't uninstall, but you can disable. Would love to uninstall and buy back the space, but at least disabled, it does not use cycles or battery.

ATT phone has Facebook installed as well as Facebook system app which needs to be enabled for Gear vr to work.

Facebook makes them install app with no uninstall option. Even though it is disabled it manages to get your contacts and email accounts along with pictures. The disable part is useless.

Not being able to unintall Facebook is pretty bad. It should not come preinstalled to begin with. I do my Facebooking with a browser on the phone. No way I'll let the app lose.

Thinking of Buying S7 Edge

So I have a Nexus 5, but need to upgrade. Why not, lol? I see theres some decent development here already. Any roms that are just aosp and not touchwiz tho? I didnt see any. Not a fan of touchwiz. Any major issues with this phone? Is it rootable? Any reason not to root? I see this knox term being thrown around...what the hell is that?
Just looking for some thoughts because I was also debating waiting for the next nexus device to.

If you're a Nexus fan, get the Nexus 6P. It's just as good or maybe even better depending on your likes.

New to the S7 edge myself. From what I've seen so far there's no rooting or anything unless you're on the non-US version. Knox is apparently a sort of security system that is part of the reason (maybe the whole reason?) you can't root it. Touchwiz does suck, the phone was super cluttered and really ugly compared to iOS which I've just moved from. I was thinking hard about taking the phone back after the first hour or so using it but installing Nova Launcher Prime fixed that for me. Disabling the bloat as well made it a great experience. It's a good little phone, the battery life is incredible (compared to my 6s Plus). No problem getting through 2 days before having to charge it. Zippy as well, very fast phone.

Always tells me apps are running. Not sure why these apps always start to run themselves in the background even after I close all apps.
Some r games n stuff not like Facebook witch I would understand as to retrieve messages.
Are u going in app manager and disabling bloatware?

It ran fast out of the box for me, it may come down to what we have installed? I used EZ Disabler (paid version) to disable the bloatware. The only game I have is Shadow Era and it doesn't do anything in the background so I can't speak to games and background activity. The only things I have running in the background are things I'd expect (FB, Whatsapp, Telegram, email, etc.) (And I am using the American AT&T S7 edge so there's no rooting, custom ROM stuff or any of that since it's currently impossible, just stock.)

Touchwiz isn't that crappy anymore - pretty smooth actually.
And battery life is insane on the Exynos variant i can get 2-3 days of normal usage without charging (u won't get this with any SD820 phone ^^)
If you don't care about battery life that much and rather want the maximum 3D performance you would probably be better off with a SD820 phone (maybe the next nexus)

I have same device as u. AT&T edge.
I noticed in touchwiz if u go to appdrawer, u can edit and turn off bloatware. We can't uninstall without root but seems we can turn off.
Where r u going in setting to prevent apps from running in background.
I went through notifications n shut allot off.

Are u going in app manager and disabling bloatware?
I enabled developer mode and change all animations from 1.0 to .5 to try n get a faster experience.

Clean Master does nothing or worse for your battery. It will clean up some files but I would suggest SD Maid for that matter.

Be aware that if you purchase from a US provider (including Sprint and T-Mobile) that you will not be able to root your S7. The bootloader is locked and the vulnerability hasn't been found yet.
Knox is a security app on Samsung phones that will keep secure whatever apps or data are in the Knox vault. It is for people who need higher security. Knox will not work if the phone has been rooted... even if the phone is later unrooted. Rooting trips a flag that will disable Knox and Samsung Pay.

Yeah, you can do it that way or use a debloat program which allows you to disable things that touchwiz won't.
I use an app called Greenify (the donation package). It gives you a list of all apps that run in the background (and even system services if you're brave enough to go through them all) and it lets you force them to stop running in the background and only run when you are actually using them on screen. For example say you use Snapchat. It's always running in the background whether you've opened it or not, checking for messages. Greenify can force it to not do that unless you physically open it. The only things I let run in the background are messaging apps I rely on (SMS, Whatsapp, Telegram, Inbox, etc.) and everything else - I let greenify force to hibernate.

Greenify is still useful if you want to kill background services, Samsung's built-in feature doesn't do that.
Package disablers are still useful for disabling packages that cause wakelocks or have background services consuming RAM even if you never ever use them.

I dont even use Touchwiz. This post has no actual facts or logic behind it. Battery optimizer still works fine, battery useage is far better. I have about 80 packages disabled.

I had Redmi 3S which battery was 4000 mAh. Totally unbloated, custom rom, no facebook, snapchats, twitters etc., and thanks to HD only screen 10h SoT was the highest I got.
Now you're telling me that S8 which battery is 1000 mAh less capacity perform better than Redmi 3s?
Tell me everything you did to S8 to achieve this. If you have spare time. Every single step haha

I just did the whole procedure, had to use some ADB command from my PC as well according to the APP, but it works well!

I am using an package disabler (231 packages) and no greenify. Though i have been using greenify for years, in my S7 and S8 i had a worse battery with it.

i had to remove greenify because every time i turned the screen off i got phantom screen press noises. no idea why

I am a 26 year old man but I act like a 10 year old child. I am really pathetic and have no life, so I just troll xda. Pray for me. The awesome mods ban my accounts as fast as I create them but I feel like a hero by creating more. I am dying of butthurt disorder but I'll continue to keep my head up because I am sad inside.
I really do apologize for being so silly. I just can't move on. I'm always going to be sad because I broke xda rules and had my account banned. I can't accept that I should just grow up and move on, so I just continue to exceed at being immature and ridiculous.
Don't worry though, while I might sneak a post or two in before mods catch me, they will ALWAYS catch me and ban me. Because xda mods are the best! Especially @The Merovingian
