Display HZ rate? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Someone now the Hz rate of the display samsung galaxy s7 edge

Most likely 60hz. Otherwise I'm sure we would've heard of it by now. A minimum of 90 would be nice for VR, but otherwise it isn't justifiable on a phone in this day and age. At least not with the "vox populi".

i would be already happy about 60fps films and videos

This is about screen refresh rate, not FPS in videos.

Dame. I was hope for like 100+ . VR headset going to be bad.

I'm pretty sure I heard carmack say (At least about the Note4 at the time) that in gearvr mode it DOES bump the display up to ~90hz.

But screen refresh rate isn't useful when input material hasn't even got enough frames And the menus wont be fluent too because almost all animations still stutter

Screen refresh rate effects the entire UI, gaming, etc.

open this site on your browser "www.displayhz.com".It will show the refesh rate.

It's 60hz! but I want a petition for 80hz! trust me even the UI feels much better c: Specially on phones since there's scrolling and etc. I have a 144hz monitor and I can't stand my 60hz one next to it! even when browsing the web c:
But *ehm* *ehm* samsung should first make 60hz work first.... Cause I feel like all animations are 30fps c:

Didn't take long though did it lol. February 2016 you wrote that now we have Razor Phone with 120hz display.

it's 59 hz

Can it switch to 90Hz for VR? Would be nice to trigger this for Standard UI.

[Q} Nexus 4 720p 60fps

Can nexus record videos at 60 fps 720p?
its camera seems to support it, can we enable it via software (kernel or apps)?
**BUMP**
Been wondering the same thing.
There are a few apps that do it but they seem to have very bad ratings. I would also love to see this happen. Pretty sure one of the chinese S4 pro phones could do 120 frames with WVGA resolution so hardware is definitely capable.
**BUMP**
Please, anyone with the device, can you check?
Off topic noob question - Can you really see a difference between 30 vs 60 fps?

I can't tell if you're trolling. I thought the human eye can't see above 29.6 fps or something like that.
I would guess the plan would be to slow the video down. My old LG Viewty recorded 60 fps for slow motion purposes etc.

hmm, that made me wonder...
Wikipedia:
The human eye and its brain interface, the human visual system, can process 10 to 12 separate images per second, perceiving them individually, but the threshold of perception is more complex, with different stimuli having different thresholds: the average shortest noticeable dark period, such as the flicker of a cathode ray tube monitor or fluorescent lamp, is 16 milliseconds, while single-millisecond visual stimulus may have a perceived duration between 100ms and 400ms due to persistence of vision in the visual cortex. This may cause images perceived in this duration to appear as one stimulus, such as a 10ms green flash of light immediately followed by a 10ms red flash of light perceived as a single yellow flash of light. Persistence of vision may also create an illusion of continuity, allowing a sequence of still images to give the impression of motion. Early silent films had a frame rate from 14 to 24 FPS which was enough for the sense of motion, but it was perceived as jerky motion. By using projectors with dual- and triple-blade shutters the rate was multiplied two or three times as seen by the audience. Thomas Edison said that 46 frames per second was the minimum: "anything less will strain the eye." In the mid- to late-1920s, the frame rate for silent films increased to between 20 and 26 FPS.
And don't forget most displays are locked on 40Hz-100Hz,..

Xperia Z5 Premium - Native resolution

Is it only me who thinks that all the videos online show the Z5 premium 4K screen at 1080p resolution ? For such a high pixel density the icons and menu should be much smaller and app list in the menu should be more than 4x5 .
I found a video showing the Z5 Premium running at a different resolution but much slower. I must admit I don't understand spanish but anyone can watch the end where things get really laggy ?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYn76ywh4tg
Old software running at 300 dpi. Will not be present in the finalized product
Have to admit that when I hear 4K I expect the resolution to be similar to the one in the video. It makes a huge difference and looks much better.

You look like expert of Sony and you have many xperia mobiles . I had one in the past, the Ultra T2 and although I liked everything about it that time, but sold it after 1 week becuse the low call voice in the loud speakers, althoigh the music was fine . I found out on the net, that may eb all Sony experia has this issue, may be thier standard.
Can you tell me if all the xperia you used has the same low call voice. I am thinking of buying C4 or may be the z5 , but I am afraid to have the same issue.
Thanks
Premium will not use 4k all the time, only when needed.

That means it will use 4K 1% of the time... Seriously I hope this is some kind of joke from Sony... When I hear 4K I expect browsing and reading at 4K.
Also more room for more icons on the home screen.... IMO it makes a lot more sense to downscale games etc.. to HD and keep the resolution at 4K

You get a larger battery and screen though
It's exactly like macbook pro retinas... you still have the desktop space of the standard resolution, yet much crispier
http://www.androidauthority.com/sony-explains-xperia-z5-premium-4k-642067/
“Xperia Z5 Premium features a 4K display with a resolution of 3840×2160 pixels based on SID Standard and enables all video and image content to be enjoyed in 4K resolution. All other content is displayed at 1080P or lower resolution in order to optimise the performance and battery stamina for this device, ensuring you can enjoy the 4K resolution when you need it most.“

Almost no point of the Z5 Premium in that case, as my old laptop certainly isn't going to render it, nor is my 2010 spec plasma
Once you root it and have xposed installed I'm sure you can set a per app DPI. I can't use a phone if it doesn't have root (won't connect to headunit) and exposed makes everything so much better.

Lol u want to browse and read in 4K, but anything above 1080p is nearly undetectable for humans eye
4K will become standardised very soon, as VR goggles are getting more and more popular.
Now, on 1080p, when using VR goggles, the screen does get separated into two images. Thus screen resolution you see thru the glasses be like 400x800 or so..
Imagine, when using 4K... VR goggles will still display 2K.. Which is more pixels than our 1080p res.
Take a magnifier and look at a 1080p screen, count the pixels and multiply that by 2. That's the resolution you'll see thru VR goggles when using a 4k display, and that's exactly what it's designed and meant for.
Sooner or later, Sony will come up with their very own VR goggles like Samsung with VR gear.

I dont really understand what's with the "undetectable thing " people keep repeating.
If you browse at 4K, text is much smaller and the content displayed is much more than 1080p . I don't have to scroll 2 pages to see everything where I can see it in only one @4K.
When you buy bigger PC screen you get more space on your desktop ( icons / files etc.. ) because resolution gets higher not because the screen gets bigger.
Whether I can see the pixel or not is my least concern.

That's not about resolution.
Resolution is about pixels.
How things appear on the screen is about layout / DPI.
U can easily spoof ur DPI in build.prop or with an xposed module, even per-app.
Just Google a bit and you'll find out

bottom line, xperia can't handle 4K resolution.

Scrolling smoothness

Some phones exhibit choppy scrolling, especially when navigating long web pages when multiple apps are running in the background. Rate this thread to express how you smooth scrolling feels on the OnePlus 7T under such conditions. A higher rating indicates that scrolling is always buttery smooth, even when you're reading a 10,000 word article on "how to kiss a girl".
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
I reduced the refresh rate to 60 Hz to save some battery life to compensate for some other battery-hogging tweaks, and honestly, I can't tell the difference in my own use. It's still plenty crisp and smooth.
That being said, I'm not a gamer, and I don't watch videos on the phone save for the occasional YouTube video that someone will send me a link to; so don't take my experience as necessarily being typical. For the way I use the phone, it's nice and smooth even at 60 Hz. YMMV.
This phone is smooth when scrolling. It's the smoothest scrolling phone I've ever experienced.
I have terrible smoothness. Everything laging when scrolling. 5t when bought was working much more smoothly. If the update does not improve the situation, I will sell the phone and forget about Oneplus

I think that has more to do with YouTube's resizing and transcoding than anything else. Playing the videos directly on my computer, they look much better; and looking directly at the screen rather than at a recording, I don't notice any jerkiness to speak of.
Maybe my eyes are just older.
Agree with you
My unit:
@60 - jagged scrolling, not good at all.
@90 - ultra smooth, it's like a different device.

I used to force 90Hz in the smaller Pixel 4 (not the XL) because the refresh rate was forced to 60Hz between 1%-40% brightness when using Smooth Display.
Now in the Pixel 5. Google changed this. Smooth display seems to be forcing 90Hz between 1%-40% brightness and using variable refresh rate (so 60Hz when the display is still for some time, and 90Hz when the display is being updated) between 40%-100% brightness.
So I personally stopped needing to force 90Hz. The standard setting works for me.
Would be awesome if Google implemented the same behaviour in "flame".
Note: I haven't tested this in special apps. (Example: I read that Smooth Display also adapts the refresh rate when playing 30 or 60 FPS videos etc and thinks that are locked).
But I haven't verified the behaviour with videos or games.

I don't know about you, but my pixel 5 loses frames .... it annoys me because OP7T was smoother, forcing 90hz in developer options does not help
I've come from 2 years with 120hz and this Pixel 5 feels exactly the same, you would only tell any difference if you had two phones side by side or perhaps you are sensitive to it .
I see no need to force the 90 the phone is great I'm fact I haven't bothered with developer options at all

This is what I was worried about. Just ordered my pixel 5 and I'm coming from a pixel 4. Even on the pixel 4 with the SD855 it still dropped frames here and there on occasion. So I'm wondering how bad the SD765G will be, hopefully it's not too bad because I don't want to go back to my pixel 4, I HATE face unlock lol.
It's not 'bad' at all
Sent from my Pixel 5 using Tapatalk
Very smooth for me (although I do wish for a 120hz pixel one day). I'm coming from a Pixel 4 and for some reason the P5 seems smoother when I compare them side by side. Like my Pixel 4 is dropping more frames than my P5. It could be the fact that my P5 is brand new and that I upgraded directly from Android 10 to Android 11 (dirty flash) instead of doing a clean install on my P4. But it's also worth noting that I have all my apps loaded onto my P5 with photos, music and everything so it's not totally empty. Overall I am impressed. I'm excited for more custom kernels because now I can overclock the cpu without feeling guilty because the battery is so big compared to the P4.
I also like the fact that the dynamic switching between 90hz and 60hz is much better this time around as explained by someone else above. It seems it mostly only switches to 90hz when you touch the screen (you can observe this in action by enabling "Show refresh rate" in developer options) and doesn't completely switch to 60hz below a certain brightness level like the P4 would. The implementation of dynamic switching between 60hz and 90hz on the P4 was awful. With this new implementation on the P5 you can reap the benefits of good battery life and enjoy 90hz only when its needed.
I get a lot of stutter while scrolling.

S20 Series bad battery Life explained!

Reason of bad battery life at 120 Hz:
1. If you select 120 Hz then your phone is just locked at 120 Hz all the time.
2. Even when you are watching Youtube or Netflix.
3. Software does not do anything to save the battery as does not switch back to 60 Hz during video watching.
This is not really acceptable from companies Like Samsung and their software developers. Shame on them that they are ruining the experience of using this phone by proving bad battery life intentionally. To check this and verify just go to the developer option and select show screen refresh rate and you will find this bitter truth.
And most of us use the phone for content viewing on this gorgeous display but due to Samsung software policy, the S20 series are experiencing bad battery life. Samsung can easily fix this damn thing but they won't as they want to ruin the phone within 1 or 2 years.

Thank you.
120hz is dynamic on the s20. I know this because when we hardcode it in lineage it's drastically different in some apps.
Some apps are 120hz constantly but most aren't. This is very evident in games on the s20 on OneUI. If you freeze gameoptimizer with adb more of them will run at 120hz.
That's really not worth talking or dramatize about. Dont click me!
That's definitely not the main reason. The main reason for bad battery life om exynos is the non-integrated RF chip they use which consumes a **** ton of battery. (Actually the whole rf side on the exynos chipsets is not well optimized).

Have you watched ANY videos of 120Hz vs 60Hz battery test? Any at all? You might save 1% battery watching a 1 hour YT video at 60Hz vs 120Hz...
And back to my original point, if 120Hz annoys you, why did YOU choose to buy this phone instead of the Note 20 Ultra which has variable refresh rate?
YOU chose to buy a phone with the specs YOU are now complaining about, YOU!.
i had the same issue on my s20 exynos.
what i did was - settings - general - reset all the 3 options.
1. network reset
2.accessibility reset
3. reset settings.
problem solved.
no need for factory reset.
then redid all settings as per my liking
aod on, wifi, bt, location on.
using almost all useful features and battery life is awesome.
Just give it a try ... on s10 it was the same problem and this helped ...
Because the phone never goes to deep sleep and the soc is alltime working in background at around 400 mHz... this method brings it back to normal ... it worked for me and some friends that had the same problem.
