How to tell what region Huawei P8 is from? - Huawei P8 Questions & Answers

My Huawei P8 has some blue clouding on the screen and I want to get it repaired. How can I find out what region the phone is originally from? Huawei USA support didn't understand the question and they said they cannot service the phone. It's a GRA-L09 I think from Latin America, but I don't know exactly where.

Sorry, can't tell without the country code.
What does it say next to 'Country'?

Vendor: hw
Country: meafnaf
It could been changed by updating the firmware from LL to MM (GRA-UL00C185B320)?. At first it has´t ...C185... (I didn´t take note the original)

In that case, your phone is actually a GRA-UL10 or CL10 (not L09) - as only this model has the premium spec (64Gb storage) & dual-SIM capability.
My guess is that someone may have installed a GRA-L09 (single-SIM) firmware/rom on your phone, which would also explain the lack of dual-SIM settings. Contact the previous owner & ask about this.
What model is mentioned on the rear bottom of your phone in tiny text? And what's the full firmware build number in Settings > About phone? It will be in this format: GRA-xxxxCxxxBxxx.
Edit: Ok, what I said before may not be entirely true, as I've since found 2 instances of the L09 model with 64Gb storage + Kirin 935, & for both there's only single-SIM support mentioned:

From all the info you've given so far, my guess now is that you have an International version, but with a single-SIM European firmware installed (HERE's an example of a GRA-L09 dual-SIM firmware, so it does exist).
Where did you buy the phone from? Which country or region? If you bought it secondhand, where did your seller buy it from brand new?
What was the previous / original firmware installed before you updated to your present C432B392?
What was the original firmware that came with the brand new phone? Do you remember, or can you find out from the original buyer?

Looks like you (or the previous owner) installed a firmware version that's different to the region meant for your phone - like in these 2 examples:

If it is as I say, which country are you from, or which country did you purchase the phone from? Also, is the phone vendor/network branded?

Usually, on network-branded phones, the company's logo will be visible during bootup. Also, there may be Entel-related apps installed.

I was sure about this when I opened the browser and saw this locked bookmark from samsung that is in spanish.
anyway, is there anyway to know where my phone originally came from or was manufactured for? and is there any way to change this?

Lollipop for Latin American MT7-L09

Okay so upon further investigation I came to learn that the phone I purchased is an unlocked unbranded MT7-L09 from Colombia. I have reverted back to the original firmware, which is B120SP04a. My question is there anyone else here with a Mate 7 from Latin America? If so, have you been able to successfully update to the official Lollipop? If so, what firmware were you on and what region did you install Lollipop from?
Any help and advice is GREATLY appreciated!
TIA
P.S. To determine what region my device was from I did the following:
1. In dialer, dial *#*#2846579#*#*
2. Go to ProjectMenu
3. Go to Network Setting
4. Go to Operator and country info
Mine shows Operator Name as hw and Country Name as nla
According to a guide I saw on CarbonTesla these are some of the other regions:
hw/spcseas – Malaysia
unicomelectric/cn – China
hw/meafnaf – Pakistan
mts/by – Belarus
I live in Central America and I upgraded succesfuly using the guides you find here. Used the official EU firmware and works great.

I live in the U.S., but the phone I purchased is from Northern Latin America. Perhaps the phone you have is European. I have tried all the versions available here and none of them work properly. I have installed both the versions from Malaysia and the one from Europe, each has some type of problem when installed or lack functionality. This is because in fact my phone is not from any of those regions. I saw a guide on how to change the Region for the Huawei Honor 4C, but I cannot find anything for the Mate 7, plus it seems a bit risky to change the region.
I saw a video on youtube of a guy in Peru who successfully updated to Lollipop, but the guy is charging and I'm not willing to pay for something I can do myself. I just need a version of Lollipop that has been released for that Region.
Well, sadly, there is no official lollipop release for LA. MT7-L09 is simply an international version and should work on most regions. I flash this rom:
"MT7-L09_Firmware_C900B324_Android 5.1.1_EMUI 3".
And upgraded from "Jazz-L09 V100R001C00B137". According to the manual, you can directly upgrade from other KK versions.

Is knuckle snapshot working for you? And did you factory reset before or after updating? Do you still have 5x5 icons available? Can you possibly post the links to the firmwares you used?
Lollipop link
kitkat b137 link
knuckle gestures work... 5x5 work... Only thing missing is being able to change DPI down to 400 which I got used to, working with 420 now.
Ohhhh.... And I did a factory reset after upgrading.

Operator name:hw
Country name:eu
What it means? I'm still with B137, no OTA for my phone.

@ronnie72... That means that you have the European version. So you can just download the link posted by @Zolocofxp to upgrade to Lollipop. You may also need to download the update_cust.app which is linked here

Identifying Yotaphone 2 model (YD206/YD201) using its hardware information

Hello
I ordered a Yotaphone 2 YD201 from china not long ago, and after recieving it I decided to check the phone's details to make sure I'd received the right version.
Unfortunately, I had received a YD206, which won't work well with 4G networks in the UK.
I contacted the seller, and he assured me that the phone I have received is in fact a YD201, stating the following:
"a few yotaphone YD201 was reflashed to YD206 before sending , pls check the phone after delivery . If your phone is YD206 system , don't worry ,it just softwareproblem , the hardware is original YD201 , we can give you reflash rom and tutorial to reflash it back to original YD201 . It will be YD201 system and work with B3/B7/B20 4G net"
My question is; is there a way I can find whether the phone was originally a YD201, or if the version I have been sent is actually just a YD206?
Attached are some screenshots containing my device's info.
Any help would be much appreciated
Thank you
- Luke
Imei = 356... -> yd201
imei = 359... -> yd206
The difference between 206 and 201 are the radio bands supported.
To flash radio only:
fastboot flash modem radio\NON-HLOS.bin
fastboot flash sbl1 radio\sbl1.mbn
fastboot flash rpm radio\rpm.mbn
fastboot flash tz radio\tz.mbn
The chinese model is compatible with 1800Mhz LTE band, that is used in some contries in Europe also,
On the phone dialer if you insert *#06# it will show the phone IMEI.
The I.M.E.I. stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity and is specific for each country,
IMEI numbers starting with 359 will be Chinese YD206, if this is your case, then you must flash the Chinese Radio even if you use other location ROM, the correct installed radio will give you better battery life and network speed.
Keep in mind that the Information on Android -> About the phone -> Model: YD201 or YD206 is not accurate because it gets its information from the ROM and not from the hardware.
Thanks for the help

Hi. I'm sitting with the same dilemma... I received the same explanation from Geeks Planet Store, word for word.
I do not even understand why they would even consider re-fashing something with a higher value (YD201) with the software that would make it look like something of lower value (YD206).
Anyway in your screenshot it says Baseband version ..._CN1_M05. Does this mean it uses the CN radio firmware?
I also downloaded their suggested firmware from the link they sent. In that there are no files under the radio folder. Does that mean the radio firmware is supposed to stay unchanged in this case? If so and if baseband _CN1_ means it is currently running CN radio firmware, does this mean the hardware is really YD206?
One more question: how reliable is the imei number check?
To me the best approach seems to be the suggestion by cvzalez to really test the radio with different firmware and see what works.

I'm confused too as to why they would re-flash a YD201 to a YD206. It doesn't make any sense.
According to this guide, the 'S01_003_3034_CN1_M05' baseband that we have is the one used by YD201s that's supposed to work with all available frequency bands. The reason for the radio folder being empty is so that flashing the phone leaves this baseband as it is.
As for the imei number, after a bit of research I've found that changing this number is relatively easy (even without root), so it's possible that Geeks Planet have just changed the imei number to make our phones seem like YD201s. However, it wouldn't make sense for them to do this and to not also flash the firmware to YD201 as well.
Have you tried flashing the phone to the YD201 using the instructions they've given you? I'm wondering whether or not to try this myself.

I might be wrong or blind, but when I look it says: "YD206 users have to change their modem components to CN version, in order to have all the available bands working. The modem version is written in "About Phone", under "baseband version". You must have the S01_003_3034_CN1_M05 version. "

I've asked the supplier if they can give me any assurance that they would help me out should I follow their flashing instructions and the phone be damaged as a result.
If they can give me this assurance, then I'll give it a go and give you the results.
Reading the comments on the youtube video Geeks Planet have sent me, it seems like this problem isn't exclusive to just Geeks Planet and is rather an issue with the main supplier of these YD201s. The comments state that both coolicool and e-fox have sold people phones with the same issue and have been linked to this same video.

The wording of this section is a little difficult to interpret. It's not really clear if baseband 'S01_003_3034_CN1_M05' is the original baseband or the international baseband.

Guys, you're lucky! You've a YD201, it doesn't matter if the firmware inside is from YD206, it can be easily changed looking at the guide you already linked.
The fact that they flashed a firmware for 206 to a 201 is because their phones are suited for Chinese market.
All you have to do is to flash the RU version (including its radio folder) and see that all LTE bands will be working as expected on a YD201!
Changing IMEI is possible, but not simple. And if your IMEI in "About phone" is the same on that written on the package of YotaPhone, you're good to go.
IMEI checking is the most reliable way to understand if it's a YD201 or YD206.

The one on Yota ftp site are official. I don't know if the firmware the seller sent to you is modified or they just downloaded it via ftp, repacked and sent to you. The firmware version is invisible looking at the files, first you have to flash it and them you will see which version it is.
Personally I would flash only official firmwares.

I have a problem. I have an unlocked bootloader on my P9 lite mini. I want to lock it, because due to the unlocked bootloader I have problems with, among other things, charging the phone.
Can I lock the bootloader for free?

Flash service ROM (aka fullOTA aka dload) for your model and regional variant (!). Download
here . Search for SLA-L22 Selina for dual SIM, SLA-L02 Selina for single. Cxx is your region, must match with Cxx in your build number in "Settings - About phone".
Instructions can be found in ReleaseDoc folder.
This process wil erase all your data !

How badly you need B145?
You can flash B143, B144, imo.
Or, download B145 from paid sites (ca 16 euros).

In Polish realities, 16 euros is quite a lot xD
I checked carefully. It is not possible to purchase this software from Poland. There is no way to pay through a Polish bank.

Just a small question - B144 is the same version of EMUI, why doesn't it suit you?
You have one more option - rebrand to the global version SLA-L22 C432, there is a lot of firmware available for this region. Paid service ($10).
