Eugh, I hope they make it worthwhile

Oh yeah!, again. Sony needs to let the rest of brands to update their phones first, so they again will be on last place updating.

Maybe not a trusted source.

Oh my god, what are they even doing so long? Their system is nearly as clear as stock, why it takes them so long to release it? And "no bugs" is not an excuse, some devices now have Marshmallowa and it's not bugged, so it really starts to annoy me...

If it's true, it will probably be my first and my last Sony phone.
-Can't unlock the bootloader without losing key features
-Slower to roll out updates than Samsung... Yeah Samsung!
All they seem to update lately = their bloatware and apps nobody cares about.
Seriously, I'm disappointed. Should have purchased a Nexus 6P like I wanted to...
6 months to update Android? Seriously Sony? Half a year to update your almost stock ROM? Are you fuc**** kidding me? Hobbyist XDA developers do a better job than you

Actually no, they don't. In majority of cases when Sony rolls out new ROM it's patched and optimized more than systems rushed to devices by other companies. And please, do tell how many phone already have a decently working Marshmallow?
Not to mention the "everything works, besides camera, calls and also random reboots" ROMs from community. Post-release - yeah, they do magic with Sony's ROMs delivering top functionality, but homecooked systems before official release mostly suck.
I do however agree that their DRM policy sucks. Whole none of the features lost are "key" ones for me, tying photo algorithms to bootloader is terrible.

it's my third Sony phone and it probably will be my last... camera on Z5 is not good as promised, power button is awful and now the update....

Same here, my 1st Sony phone and definitely will be the last

http://www.justaboutphones.com/sony-xperia-z5-z5-compact-z5-premium-z3-marshmallow-6-0-update/ maybe sooner

Reading some of the posts I'm gonna post my little rant here.
About the fingerprint sensor. When it works, it works very well. Often times it doesn't work for me. I have to add my finger multiple times to the prints list. Hopefully Qualcomm's new tech let's it work even with sweaty fingers. Maybe they should move the sensor to the back and have it the size of iPhone home button. And of course the DRM key thing. Should go back to drawing board with unlocking bootloader

This is blogspam. There's no proof or source at all. Somebody close this thread. Besides, 6.0 was just finalized and being uploaded. Expect it in less than a week, aka LATE JANUARY

We can assume what model is Xperia 2 Tablet. It can be Xperia Z2 Tablet. But what model is M4? I don't remember M4 is presented at all.
Z3+ is mobile phone from Z4 family but it is placed in Z3 family.
This source or article is unreliable.

Are z5 phones still on Lollipop OS? I think soon they will update it to marshmallow.

The sensor has to be accurate, better to be on the side of caution when you are talking about security, than to potentially let slip other fingerprints. Which is why I taught it 5 finger prints, each from different angles based on how I hold or use my phone in landscape and portrait mode. Also I know the thumb print in particular only registers in one spot of my thumb, so if fails wipe finger or thumb on teeshirt, shorts, rag, and it usually works second time.
Apple users are facing the same sort of issues with fingerprint scanner, as well as all other mobile devices.

This is my third Sony (Z1, Z2 and now Z5)
I was reading all posts guys and i have to say that about my Z5:
-About the update: always is the same **** with Sony when have to lunch a new complete version.
- Battery life: is worst than Z2.
- Camera: The quality of the photos it's not a big deal.
When a i had my Z2 i was thinking buy the Nexus 6P but finally i selected the Z5... Very big error.

shame on you Samsung!

Well.. yeah the galaxy is an awesome mobile phone, few doubts about it.
But why stall us all and delay the release of ICS? on december 2011 when I bought the note, I was told that the galaxy nexus has a better OS, but that Gnote should get it soon, therefore I bought it.
Having an outdated OS sucks, or at least it sucks when you expect it to actually update. Maybe nextime when we buy a phone we'll tell samsung that in q1 2012 we'll pay but delay them too.
Other than that, my screen has a decent scratch on it... but it doesn't really bother me, so much for gorilla glass.
Oh and with the new firmwares its impossible to record a call by using sanity. Those audio patches just silent the whole phone instead of allowing sanity to record.
i hope i wont get decent scratches on my gorilla glas :O
but u should be always know that samsung isnt the fastest in updating phones
when getting my galaxy s1 i got the update after 6 months promising that the update will come blabla..
i wont rely on samsungsupport anymore cous we have great developers bringing out better roms then samsung ever can!!

You must understand that its not just Samsung that controls the roll out of the updates, they have to coordinate with operators around the world to roll out any updates because of so much operator specific **** that comes along with the phones.
Yes, Samsung can do better but name one OEM who has done better? HTC? Sony (Ericsson)? Motorola? Its all the same in Android club, sir. Only if you have a Google AOSP phone, you can rely on fast updates.
Begs a question- All competing platforms are calculated and reserved with updates- Why does Google has to release one major
OS release every 6 months? Why can't they have consolidated single annual update cycles?
Anyway, you are at XDA- the motherlode! Why do you wait for official updates when there are several talented devs bringing you top notch releases before OEMs do. Just root it and forget it!

Having an outdated OS sucks,95% of android devices outthere actually run GB I wouldn't call tht outdated or at least it sucks when you expect it to actually update. Those are all beta, so not perfect
Ics makes a few tweaks thats all not end of the world so what we have to wait im sorry but the phones is excellent regardless its not like ics will make this phone earth shattingly better it will make stuff all difference in the long run.
I cant wait until they release ics. Because i promise you this we will see this type of thread disappear to be replaced with. "why did samsung release this when it has bugs" or "when do we expect jelly bean" or " "Now we have ics do you think samsung will abandon the note with jellybean"
Im sorry to be negative but the note forum has jsut turned into a whinging forum.
Maybe mods could set up a vent your rant thread as not to over inflate this forum any more than it is

What does ICS really bring to the table that most note users will really need?
The majority of users are not the ones that frequent XDA. The majority of users
just use the phone as a phone, email & internet device.
The "1%ers" try to squeeze every little bit out of it.
I use around 2400 minutes a month on the phone, 2-300 text messages & around 100-200 emails. No games, no huge amount of data. Maybe 1-2 gig per month.
Personally, I'm holding off on ICS until it's been "official" for a few weeks.
GB is tweaked to the point, at least on my device, that it is fast & stable.
You know ICS will need a few revisions before it is really as stable as GB.
If it wasn't for the "1%ers", I doubt these devices would be as good as they are, but, for the majority of users, I just don't see ICS being that big of a deal.

Hey friedje you're so smart... luck must have sent me here to be enlightened by your ingenious comments.
Let's just review your comments the same way you reviewed mine ok?
1.Never buy something for what it might become-wow! I am really thrilled and honored to see such an amazing sentence, too bad its meaningless. Never buy something for what it might become? *cough* BULL****. An update was supposed to be released by now, an update which is considered to be a cornerstone of android's development, or briefly speaking -a major change to the device.
2.95% of androids run gingerbread, perhaps you're right.. can't tell by the way you pull wisdom out your sleeves but.... galaxy note isn't just a normal android device. If I'm not wrong its Samsung's flagship phone, its pricey.. and promising.
3.That scratch doesn't really bother me... I'm honest. I just wanted to comment on the durability of the gorilla glass, or in fact about the allegedly scratch resistant screen that galaxy note has.
But other than that, nice to see that you blindly stick to your galaxy note, and how certain you are that it is flawless. If I had a company or a business I'd be looking for a worker\customer like you to blindly follow me too.
edit:
sorry I forgot to thank you for pointing out that "Samsung doesn't give credit". Did someone say smart-ass?
peace
OMG not again... just install a custom rom and enjoy ICS. There are a few that are quite stable with S Memo working....
More *****ing and pissing and moaning I see hey? There are LOTS of these threads already so please stop flooding the board with this OVER AND OVER again!!!
Yet another "fkn samsung where's my update" thread... can't you people just wait a month more ? It's just a software update, it's not like your phone is useless without ICS...
Samsung said you will get ICS and you will, Gorilla said the glass is scratch resistant and it is.
So...You are waiting for ICS and you have discovered scratch resistant is not the same as scratch proof.
You seriously need to lighten up.. its a phone dude, not life and death

Support for Android 3.x and 4.x apps. DriveMount really cool thing. With DosBox Turbo you can play DOS games with USB or Bluetooth mouse at ICS. And many more 3.x and 4.x great apps...
New many awesome settings, like "Hovering pen icon". It's amazingly cool helping feature, I really like it! Of cause other functions like "Force GPU rendering" and other from Android 4 also very helpful. Windows and transition animation scale settings will make a pleasant view for menus and other animations...
Also ICS is incredibly smooth!
I hope someone will fix Tablet mode for samsung stock ICS roms. AOSP good, but it kills many Note features, like stock camera, hovering pen icon, s planner, s memo and other samsung good things...
you know what? I take it back. both the hostile replies against friedje and the whining about not having ICS.
I was just in a mood to express my opinion after logging in every few weeks to check for an update.
all the best everyone!

Yes, what a bunch of cry babies. Nothing except google branded phones get updates for crap. This should be common knowledge for anyone on XDA.
OTOH, CM9 is running FLAWLESSLY for me. I don't care about FM radio and w/e the other missing things is, whoopdeedoo.
And screen protectors must cost as much as a phone the way people don't wish to protect a 600 dollar device. Where is the sanity? Not in this solar system.

It's still there, but it's nowhere near as bad.
I feel like the biggest reason we haven't seen the update is simply incorporating the driver's for the S-Pen and it's related things. Also the Galaxy Note runs at a unique resolution compared to everything else so that will cause some differences. If you've used any of the leaks they're pretty close, but they're still far from what I would consider something that should be released for everyone. I went back to CheckRom for my Note and for GB it runs really good. I was using CM9 which ran great, but I missed having the SPen and related apps as that was part of the reason I got the note. I would love ICS to be released right now, but even with GB the Note is still by far the best phone I've used. I love using my Note with Gingebread and Touchwiz more than using my Galaxy Nexus with 4.0.4

New Z1 owner. Just wanna say hi to everyone.

Sorry mods if this is a wasted post. I promise not to do it again. But I am super excited about my Z1 arriving next week. I was a former Verizon user days away from ordering a Droid Maxx when I learned about this waterproof beast of a phone. It was enough to make me ditch my unlimited 4g (selling on ebay). I'm excited to root this thing and start participating in the discussions here. Its great to see this level of support here. I've been looking over the sticky guides so I think I am caught up on the rooting process and what not.
So, is there anything else I should know or prepare for upon receiving this phone? Looking forward to chatting with you all.

Also get a front and back screen protector and put it on the minute it comes out of the box.
For some reason unbeknownst to mankind, the people at Sony thought it necessary to laminate the scratch resistant Dragontrail glass with a satanic scratch prone plastic film.
They completely ****ed it up to be honest.
Yest soft lint will seemingly scratch it so make sure you cover both sides if you hate nasty scratches.

Awesome, but LOL at apple earpods for high music quality. The in-box sony earpods sounds far better imo.
Also just saying Hi
Hey Guys
I don't normally do this but I'm SOOOOO excited about getting this phone that I also want to say Hi I should be receiving my Z1 tomorrow or Tuesday! It's an upgrade on my cellular contract :victory: Actually its the first time that I will be getting a current flagship device. I have been an avid Samsung supporter (old device is a Galaxy S2) but because of Samsung's unwillingness and flat out refusal to support the development community it has made me despise them to the nth degree! I will never, ever in my life get another Samsung device ever again! I originally wanted a Nexus 5 but South Africa does not (and it seems will never) provide the Nexus devices (tablets yes, but phones, no). They used too but stopped after the Galaxy Nexus. Trust me, a lot of people are unhappy about that in this country.
Anyway, the next option was Sony Z1 and to be honest, quite frankly I think I would have gone for the Sony anyway as this device is a MONSTER phone! The specs are outstanding and it will definitely be a top tier device for at least the next 2 years until my next upgrade. LOL, to be honest after Codworks and Entropy's praise of Sony, was the final deciding factor for me. I hope Samsung reads this because they lost a loyal customer and the dev community does indeed influence peoples choices, albeit the minority that we are but still, I have spread my hate wings of Samsung far and wide and have even influenced others not to buy them or go with their devices. Anyway, enough with the rants, I'm wiping my feet off on Samsung and that's that.
So proud to be a part of the Z1 community now! I know this device does have issues with unlocking the bootloader and breaking the camera but it has just recently being released so I'm pretty confident Sony will sort it out (as it is their flagship device after all!)
I never flash any of my phones with custom firmware or even stock from a different region until I have done extensive research on the device, so don't expect any silly questions from me as it will be a while until I know I am confident in what I am doing.
Anyway, hope you guys have an awesome day and I'm so exited I don't think I can even sleep well tonight!!

Android 4.4.2 KitKat to roll in mid-Q2 for Xperia Tablet Z

Just seen the news on Xperia Blog.
The Xperia Tablet Z could see KitKat in May 2014!
Yeah, right after the Tablet Z2 hits the shelves, so those who can't wait will buy the new one
If i have the money I'll buy the new one
Otherwise I'm happy that the Tablet Z is getting Kit Kat

Pretty happy with it at the moment but I can't believe there is no APP2SD support in stock ROM, hoping we get it in 4.4

:/ OK I won't go to official 4.4 then.. Can anyone recommend a stable ROM with APP2SD support?
Xperia Tablet Z 2... screw that... I'm never buying nothing from Sony again. There's no excuse for updates taking this long. As much as I love and baby my tab Z like another child... being in Canada and waiting 6 months for an update is complete BULL... I know its not just Sony's fault, Google is to blame as well. OS FRAGMENTATION issues... thats a laugh... once an update is out these manufacturers should be getting the ball rolling, but they are not. They wait until a new product is in the makes and then they finally do something with the update. Its just not right.
I just don't have enough middle fingers to hold up to those guys. I pay top dollar for a premium product, I expect premium support for that product as well. Otherwise I might as well buy the discount low price no-name piece of hardware that has all the latest technology and latest O/S cause then I can afford to replace it every 6 months to a year instead of expecting support for cutting edge in technology I think will last a few years.
I agree that updates take too damn long but its not only Sony, all manufacturers take ages to roll new updates
Sadly only nexus devices have the privilege of fast updates
But its better to get an update even if late than to get nothing at all, some manufacturers like lg or samsung don't even bother
You might say samsung does update thier devices but the only devices they care to update are the Note and The Galaxy S line, the rest? Stuck in the mud

I'm curious, other than the Nexus lineup, who would you say offers faster upgrades? Nexus has the benefit of internal Google development being applied when creating the update. Additionally....it also has NO OS MODIFICATIONS. That's one of the biggest hurdles. All the changes to the OS that companies do, require additional development time. That's in addition to any new drivers that have to be created and tested for components that exist in this particular device, that weren't in the Nexus devices.
So what manufacturer besides Sony would you purchase from who does not have that same issue? I ask because you indicate you'd just continually buy new cheaper devices. Even many new launch devices currently do not come with 4.4.2 loaded on them. Those that do, only have been showing up in the last month or so at best, and normally are NOT the cheap models.
We have already received one major update on the Tablet Z. We just received a minor update the other month and are due for another major update within 2 months. Seems relatively quick to me.
4.4.2 launched in December for Nexus devices. Most manufacturers would not want to jump on 4.4 cause they know there'll be quick follow up updates. And 4.4.1 was only a few weeks before that. Most nexus devices didn't have 4.4.2 until late December or early January. It's the end of March now, and we're already targeted to receive the update in May. Granted it could be late May or even June for certain models, but they just recently got 4.3 out there, so they jumped onto 4.4 pretty quickly.
Also, this sentence: " being in Canada and waiting 6 months for an update is complete BULL... " Can you clarify to me what special treatment you are supposed to get since you are in Canada? Are they some type of "mobile OS priority" country?
It's better late than never... I think the update timeline of Sony is fair enough.. 4.1.2, 4.2.2, 4.3 and soon 4.4.2. we have many options for our tatse.. in my part, my concern is how good would be the next update..i hoping for a lesser bugs(bug free would be better) in 4.4.2..that's all..
IOS by the way has an update twice a week. so if anybody here wants a quick/frequent update..IOS is an option..hehehe
It not really the update that matters to me... its the functionality... its like its been rushed and full of bugs... apps that should work proper doesnt (ex: Mx player audio bug; WIFI problems disconnecting every 15-20 minutes when connecting to networks with other streaming apps) New version = fixed problems... but that is not the case. And to the fellow that commenting about me being from canada... well I noticed there are different versions of firmware all over the world... and it seems over here we get the updates last... thats what I was refering to. (311, 312 wifi) Sure they can release updates untill the cows come home... but if they are not fixing the problems that are currently on the device.. it dont mean crap.

First thing first: I use MX Player I don't have any audio problems. No WiFi problems also.
About the Canada thing, believe me, Brazil takes even more time. But, that's isn't Sony fault. I mean, they don't put a World Map, play Darts with it, and the updates rolls out in order that the countries are hit. I don't know exactly the reason, but there is one. It is normally staged rollout. If there are problems, they can know already about it and start working. At least the number of people with the problem will be lower.
There are no different fw versions all over the world. There is .101 for LTE models, and .109 for WiFi models. The difference relies on country related crap built in. Last but not least, you can always grab a ftf and flash the fw yourself if you want.

As previously stated, while the two issues you mention are something others experience, "most" owners are not having those issues. Yes, MOST people do not have those issues. Only the small percentage that are vocal on the boards and a few others. I'm not trying to diminish your experience, but while I'm sure it's frustrating, I don't think it's probably Sony's top priority with only a minority having these issues.
That said, I just wouldn't slam Sony overall for it, but if it leaves a bad taste in your mouth that's fine. Honestly, with how new this technology still is, to thing that the devices being produced are already at this quality level, with less than 5-6 years of legacy production on most of them, is pretty impressive.
Ever heard of AOSP?

THIS Quote right here sums it up...
You want a better OS? Either have patience, or go unlock bootloaders and load AOSP Google Nexus OS. Better "functionality"? Well WAIT for Sony developers instead of "RUSHING" them, then you wont find "full of bugs..."
See, we are so spoiled, we all want, NOW NOW NOW NOW NAAAAOOOO.
How about changing pace? Be patient. Seriously, i mean other than companies like SONY (Who actually LOVE AND ENCOURAGE THE DEV WORLD) actually puts out great product. I'm not trying to bash on Samsung and all, but I would rather be with Sony Products than Samsung or HTC that likes to "scrimp" on hardwares and "overcharge" the masses.
Here's the kicker.... THEY DON'T "LOVE" or "ENCOURAGE" DEVELOPERS WORLD. Example, Samsung started to lock down their stuff with SELinux and Knox, even circuit electric locking your phone. (Means that it locks you out permanently and will brick you phone if you try to downgrade, or such. I forgot the actual wording.)
So, really, have more patience in this world.
I know I do. I haven't upgraded, just because mine is PERFECTLY working the way I want it. WiFi works, it's not botchy like some, still on 4.1.2, loaded XMB, casting great on my tv, and rooted. Plus even loaded the dual recovery. Not bootloader unlocked. And I even did that patch to make the rebooting stop while i take out the bloat, WHICH amazingly enough, the bloat was LESS THAN WHAT I HAD IN MY SAMSUNG S3 PHONE. I mean, WAY LESS.
Oh, I have both N7 and N10, (Yes, i'm spoiled), and both stock, ran against my Z Tab, and Antutu scored way higher than both Nexus 7 or the 10. I made both Nexuses barebones, no google, and ran Antu, and still my Sony topped them.
BE GREAT FULL THAT YOU HAVE A FUNCTIONING DEVICE

Even if you where correct about Sony taking long to come with updates which I don't think they are compared to others. We get the update and is it not better to get a stable update with apps updated aswell rather than a rushed update. Yes I can't wait for the update as well but after all will it really make that big of a difference that having to wait a bit longer is a huge problem?

A huge international company like Sony, you would think they would have a huge development team for android devices since they have made quite a few already, should be able to keep up with the new versions of android as they come out (meaning a month or two after its release). Not just Sony but all the major brands. They are practically given the complete code to begin with, so pretty much just have to update all their bloat.

Actually you have no clue what you are talking about. I own a Note 3 and it doesn't do any of that... do you even know what KNOX is for? Its for buisness apps that access your companys secure network. (It was a toss up between Note 3 and the z2... and I just didnt like the z2 bezzel it seemed oversized on the top and bottom) And actually they really are not that friendly to the developer world... they just dont want to spend the money to fix every little exploit cause people are going to flash roms and unlock bootloaders, and brick their devices and send them back no matter what they do so they might as well quit an sit back and wait for others to do the work for them. Anyone who has a ps3 or similar products would know what Im talking about.

Sure... I CAN wait for an update as long as all the previous issues have been addressed and not causing new issues (re: 5 minute shut down, and high battery drain)
But the point I'm actually trying to make is 6 months is too long for an update but no one else here seems notice. All the internet talk about fragmentation issues with all these devices with different android versions. An android version comes out... it shouldnt take more than two months to develop and distribute an update its not like Sony employs one or two people to do this task ( Or HTC or Samsung etc...) The average life span of an android device is a year to two years. (and yes I usually get a new phone pretty close to every year i always try to get the latest and greatest NON APPLE products) But whatever I dont even know if I want Kit Kat after all I have heard, thats the main reason why I havent flashed AOSp or some other rom cause they dont completely work, theres always something that remains broken. When official kit Kat comes out... if it fixes the current issues sure why not.
I will not quote the whole post because it is too long, but... Sony has Ben loosing a lot of money lately, as a whole. Even though Sony Mobile is winning more than losing, the whole company is losing. And, no, they don't have a huge team of developers to take care of that.
Until Sony bought the Sony Ericsson joint venture, all of Sony smartphone development (both hardware and software) was done in Sony Ericsson hoke country. After Sony bought it, they decided to slowly shift both software and hardware development to Sony Japan. That caused a whole huge mess...
Even though Sony Japan had enough manwork, they weren't talented as the software developers from the old SE. They had transfered the 4.1.2 update for S from SE to Japan. Japan messed up the update pretty bad, and SE team (I just can't remember the country name lol) had to work to fix it, while working on the 4.2.2 for newer devices...
So now they have a relatively small dev team, but a very talented one

I actually do know what KNOX is. I also do know what i'm talking about. I have Knox on my government phone. And I wasn't talking about having a Z2 or it's damn oversized bezzel, I was just simply stating that Sony has a better handle on the developer world, compared to other companies such as HTC or Samsung. Seriously, do you think they like the idea that you are putting a custom ROM on your Note 3? SELinux = On Note 3 = Enforcing. Knox will monitor if you "tamper" with the Note 3. You change those values, you think they'll HONOR your "bricked" device because you "Unlocked the Bootloaders" and "Customized the ROM"? Try it...
And so, "they are really not that friendly to the developer world".... and Samsung is? Ha. Thanks for giving me the laughs.
I do own a PS3, but i never had to send them back. I'm not sure how "PS3" is actually added in this conversation.

Strange, I updated my SGP312 to official 4.3 through PC companion app more then 3 months ago...

To those of you with 4.4.4

I currently have a z2 which I love, but have a few issues with it. I am hoping someone that had a z2 can chime in and let me know if some things have been fixed on 4.4.4 For example, sometimes for no reason whatsoever my wifi wont connect, it wont even enable sometimes. I read that 4.4.4 fixes that. Since the z3 ships with 4.4.4 I was hoping that some of these problems have been solved. Calls on the z2 via speakphone are just plain impossible as well. The other caller hears nothing but echos, with or without noise supression on and trying all the different call settings. The earpiece is also pretty quiet, which can be frustrating in loud environments. I also find that web pages constantly have to reload with google chrome (which drives me insane!!!) and something I think should not be a problem with 3gb of ram. Also whats the deal with the auto brightness barely functioning on the z2? I wake up in the morning and am blinded by pure UV rays coming out of my phone screen, but when I go outside I cant see the screen. Auto brightness does not work well at all for me.
The last nail in the coffin for me is that I only have 16gb of storage and am already maxed out. I have a few big games that hog memory, but all of my media is on my external sd card. Does the z3 have the ability to store apps on the sd card?
I am hoping some of these issues are resolved, otherwise I will have to jump to the nexus, which I am not so sure about. I love my sony phone.
We all dont still have the update yet on our Z2 with 4.4.4 so we cannot said if something is fixed like the small issues, we can know that if we have and running on 4.4.4 !

As for 2014 being a bad one for Sony, well it's hardly surprising when a company makes idiotic choices, they pay a penalty for it. Releasing a new flashship phone every six months was bound to create the sort of confusion that would a) scare some potential customers away
b) piss the hell out of existing customers
c)devalue the brand to the point where it becomes painful purchasing their devices
Sony is an old school company struggling to fully embrace the new world order. Look what's happened to the other old schoolers Nokia, Blackberry, Sony Ericsson. They all failed as commercial entities. Sony bought out Ericsson and we hoped that would usher in a new dawn and philosophy. Things at first seemed promising but they've reverted back to type.
It won't be long at this rate when Sony ends up selling it's mobile division to the Chinese lol! It's failing and something drastic needs to happen. The z4 is looking now like a very important device. Make or break indeed! They really can't afford any screw ups there.
Don't get me wrong they've done Ok at times. The Z was very successful because of the novelty of waterproofing.
The Z2 was top notch but was delayed and by the time it became widely available, rumours of the z3 totally killed off its chances.
In between these two good releases, we had the underwhelming Z1 and the pointless Z3.
"One step forward and two steps backwards " should be written on the tomb stone of Sony mobile if it doesn't survive.
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Free mobile app
Sony clearly stated that they are not suffering because of their flagship range. They devalued their low-mid range portfolio by writing off goodwill. It has ZERO relation to the Z series.
It seems the 6 months cycle does work. They've been doing it since 2011 and never had to devalue their flagship range.
a) First time I heard that 6 months cycle "scares" customers. Maybe you solely?
b) As above
c) I don't know whether you're basing this on your perspective or overall customer's. Normal human don't feel pain when buying phones with a 6 months cycle:
-It's a just a phone
-No one changes phone half-yearly
And I don't find Sony selling its mobile division to Chinese companies funny.
Again it's based on your personal perception that the Z1 was underwhelming and Z3 was pointless.
Z2 was targeted at Z users and the Z3 was for Z.
If you do not like Sony, instead of waiting the board space of your rants, go get the Galaxy smartphone. I'm sure the fingerprint sensor is revolutionary and excites you!

The first 60hz hack for the Screen! Or all the attempts on multi touch and 32m color.
And all those brand new 2.2 roms without camera... fully working 1080p fotos xD
But i agree with the 6Month cycle problem.
If i ask around a lot of people have a Iphone6 or a Galaxy S5 because it is something. Everyone knows its good... its a status symbol.
If you have a 6 Months cycle your phone is old! Even if you just bought it. Even if the technical details arent much different.
Btw, hasnt sony mobile written red numbers for a few years now?

They actually posted a small profit last year but that was because of the original Z's sales riding high on the waterproof wave! Remember the 5 million units sold in 60 days.
Unfortunately it was a momentum they squandered soon after with the z1. The z2 had a chance of matching and even beating that but delays scuppered its progress.
I'm hopefully they'll have something worthwhile with the z4. Let's just hope they release it early like they did with the Z and not cripple it with rumours following shortly after of another flagship in September.
Sony's running out of time to keep making idiotic mistakes. It's a philosophical thing. There are just some people there at Sony convinced that they can break through doing what they're doing now. I'm sure there'll also be some voices calling for a change in direction. Let's hope those voices get heard. No company can sustain losses indefinitely.
I'm already at the end of my tether and unless I see official word from Sony confirming that the 6 month cycle is no more, I'll be going with the s6 next year. No htc for me, they're just another idiotic company that think metal is the answer to all the world's ills lol.
Having said that, the new oppo with its very slim profile looks delicious but I think I'll pass on that.

You must be living under a rock. The Internet is littered with frustration at the 6 month cycle. Be that websites, YouTube, Google plus etc. Again and again you'll find frustration with this policy.
Even Sony execs keep getting challenged every time they do interviews. It's reported that one of them said recently that it was unsustainable.
Not devaluing the brand? Won't even bother answering that.

Don't care who you trust. The original Z was the last successful flashship from Sony. They're just trying to blame their failings on the mid range segment to avoid damaging the rep of their flashships.
The problem is ubiquitous! The iPhone 6 sold more in a weekend than the z3 will sell in its entire lifespan! In fact make that two life times!

We better get LG V10's software improvements or I'm done with LG

I'm tired of this planned obselesence bull. It has the same exact camera. If I don't see high bitrate 4k, 60fps 1080p, and manual video control I'm done. Furthermore, I better not see any UI improvements that won't be present on the G4 in a near future time.
If they do any of this nonsense on a year old, marketed, FLAGship, I'm finished. At that point I'll know the path they are taking with their phones and what they think of their consumers.
I see what you mean but we live in such system, now more than ever, programmed obsolesence is the first reason phone's are sold. We can't do nothing really, what we can do is stopping buying but no one will do that because for one that not buy there are millions that buy, try to port features or just use alternative apps.
Yep, then don't buy. Vote with your wallet, eventually these companies would understand why their sales are dropping. I've already sold my LG G4

Hmmm.. An open conversation between developer and consumer? At least with Google, you KNOW you have at least a year before they will release their next flagship. I bought the G4 and LITERALLY the next day the V10 leaks started! Also... frequent updates without carrier bs (I'll never forget the update I got on my last phone.. when everyone else was getting Lollipop, AT&T pushed out an update that installed UBER and AT&T Live on my damn phone lol). The Nexus will have a vibrant developer community that isn't hobbled by locked bootloaders and carrier restrictions, and a Fingerprint scanner to name a few. But, the G4 does have some features that I don't think you'll find on the 6p! Namely, horrible touch-screen response, lag that appears out of nowhere, a plastic back that can get so hot I'd swear it was metal. Sorry for the pessimism but this is only my 2nd Android phone and I'm batting 0/2 as my first was the AT&T variant of the Galaxy S5 (RIP Safestrap!) and I'm done with this crap lol. As soon as possible, I'm hitching my horse to a Nexus and never looking back! PS I forgot! The 6P has that giant Cyclops eye on it's backend! Also, having said all that, the developers that are working here on the G4 are amazing! The fact that they've been able to do what they have despite the restrictions is awesome!
I will definitely miss the manual camera, I think LG did a great job with that, and I'm disappointed that Google has not included manual settings in the stock camera. But there are other manual camera apps for that. I've been hunting down camera comparison shots for weeks, looking to see that the 6P can hold it's own, and I'm confident in all the test shots I've found. It's less a question on what the 6P has than what it DOESN'T have. I have reached the end of my patience with the bad performance of the G4 that I'm willing to lose some (if any) camera quality to gain stability and reliability. It's true that you gain a thriving development community with Nexus, but the development on the G4 didn't bother me to begin with. I'm perfectly happy with just root! It's a shame, because I had a G3 which I loved.

I've said this for years xD I'm no longer buy Apple devices or Samsung devices. I'm only left with LG, Sony and the smaller brands. Haha.
Every company does this, so, if this happens now, I won't have another LG. These companies just keep trying to sell more and more phones every year.
I'm also crossed that LG doesn't allow longer exposures for third party apps so you don't have 30 sec. exposure times.
I must say that from all the brands. I was the most satisfied with HTC. (had One M7). Good updates, has google play edition. Awesome policy. Too bad that when G4 came out you really didn't have a good camera phone except it and S6.
Too bad, the companies are shifting to this practice. As @Mad_Duke said the HTC M7 was the phone I liked the most (except for the camera). For the past 1,5 years I owned Sony (Z3), OnePlus (One), Samsung (S6/920F) and now the G4. I have to say that Oneplus was the most satisfying overall. All big names are unfortunately doing their own practices to sell more phones. Sony was slow at releasing 5.0 (and when it got released it was a "crippled" update), Samsung puts too much bloat and do not release the full documents for the Exynos, thus the development is slow. So far LG is kind of OK, at least you can flash some of the updated apps. However, if you want the fastest and most developed phones, you have to go with Nexus (or OnePlus like) devices.
I kinda expected manual camera for g3 when g4 came out. However, seeing a reality of thos bussiness I can see why they need to constantly shell out new products and plan the software obsolence of the older ones - because market (all of us) demands it. We need new models, company just cant sell same phone for 2 years and just shell out the updates (even with nexus5 we started demanding new models).
Vallet voting, just that.
I hope your post is a joke!
I had Nexus 4 before, and even if it was a Google device,I never had manual camera(with third party App),HDR+ or other improvements.
The same is happened with Samsung,Sony and Apple.
So what are we talking about?
If you want devices that has improvements in camera you should buy a Windows Phone.
After updates, even Lumia 520 has Manual Camera.
What a stupid thread
I have had marshmallow since day one ableit custom rom
Unlocked bootloader h815
Lg are a business in a cut throat market with so much choice for the consumer
You cannot live without the extra features? Wow lol
Imho its the best phone of 2015
Wow... just wow. Some of you guys are expecting waaay to much. It's not like other companies/phones bring all the latest **** to their older phones. The V10 has extra hardware to make some of the new video features work, so no, you probably won't get these features.
Also, LG is the first non-nexus to update to marshmallow but for some this still isn't fast enough. They offer fine support for this phone, realize normal consumers don't care if updates like these take longer (see Samsung) but LG is offering it way faster anyway.
The G4 looks very attractive right now.
The v10 is bigger, in size. Great video if you need it.

S6 still does not have shutter control in the UI, the s6e+ & note 5 which came out only 3 months later have it.
S6 has raw and shutter in the api so if you use a 3rd party app you can use it but everybody wants to do this in the stock app.
The Z5 has shutter control, still no raw. Previous xperias have no shutter control because companies lock down the camera api to the point that the only reliable camera app you can use is the stock one.
So what are we talking about?

not really, the 930 languished for a couple of years after it launched. Its successor is two years late, the 950 but the OS is difficult to deal with without google services integration.
its true nokia camera interface is ahead of the curve and is available even on budget devices. But OIS, lens, bigger sensor and image processing requires more cpu is only present on higher end models. The 830 has ois. The 1020 can't do 4k.
G4 has been a POS since day one with the exception of the fantastic camera. I cannot believe that ppl are still here when you got phones like the Note 5 and 6P on the market. A removable battery and SD card slot does not solve lag and touchscreen issues....
