CyanogenMod Forum → Device Req Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 - Galaxy Tab S2 General

We know there are work in progress to port CM 12 on T810 and T710 but none for T815 and T715
So those like me with T815 or T715 or ... that are looking for CM for their device can post their request in CyanogenMod Forum request page
http://forum.cyanogenmod.org/topic/116361-samsung-galaxy-tab-s2/

Yes; even without phone fuctions is ok for start. I see note 4 exynos got decent cm13 now; I hope no impossible to give it for tab s2 lte. Would be great

Hey, I'm new to this, but I want to give it a shot to try a port for the T715.
I think it should be no problem to make a build without modem support.
So my plan would be to use the source of the T710, if @CTXz allows me to use his sources.
Next I want to try to integrate the modem/ RIL sources, but don't expect too much! I'm completely new to android development and this will be my first project doing myself.
Just did some compilings and ports, but never to new unsupported devices. Maybe with some help it will be possible for me.

Hey, you really don't need to ask to use my sources A mention at the finished ROM would be all I need . However, if you plan to support it, I recommend joining my git group

A question:
What does one gain and lose by going from stock Samsung to CM12/13?
Thanks!

That is a very tuff question to answer in just one post and depends on particular preferences. My advise is to Google: Cyanogenmod and TouchWiz.

It seems the main issue is battery and camera (quality).

i think i messed my t817v. i rooted using odin, and cannot figure out what to do next. it tries to install but gives error message, also my tab wont charge, and when hooked into odin it keeps "adding then removed" over and over again... now i have a tablet that does not work.
any help on this would be awesome.

I would love that!
I also posted a device request at the CyanogenMod Forum.

What you always lose with CM is Bluetooth aptX support for higher quality Bluetooth audio, since they have no licence. And since now there is official MM for the S2 and it - with enough free storage and 3 GM of RAM and root available - really doesn't profit any more from a "slim" ROM than earlier devices did, can anybody point me to a real advantage of CM?

For me CM was never about storage, but about control. As far as possible (for I am no programmer) I want to decide about the rights apps have and don't. It starts with being able to delete them and goes on with being able to restrict their access rights. As far as I remember such privacy guard things are much more easier to accomplish with CM.

My TAB s2 is my first Samsung device.... ( other android devices being nexus 7, xperia z2 / z3, moto g 4G ) ...... I love the tablet but I must say the draw of a supported CM ROM would be the look / feel of stock android and the way the system behaves. Whilst with a rooted device you can remove bloatware, the system itself does not change. All of my other devices have been stock or only lightly skinned....and basically stock once you swap out the launcher.... so I have come to like that. I do find touchwiz to be a little in my face and I do notice the system intrusions a little...... a personal thing of course and I am not complaining as I made the decision to buy it knowing full well what Touchwiz was... but the hardware in the tablet and the price was the draw-card (got the WiFi version here in Aus the first month on sale for $540 ... in comparison, the Nexus 9 was circa $700 and the Ipad Air 2 64gb was $730). My nexus 7 2013 runs MM with less and smoother than the TAB s2 runs LP. I could only imagine what it could do with an ASOP ROM once the bugs were fixed.

Could it be due to a defect usb-port?

Do u know the difference between WIndows Phone/iPhone and Android, that's the kind of comparison u can use between Stock and CM.
Stock is the cute "little" thing with mostly everything that u may need ready to go.
CM is the smaller in size, much faster and with options to do almost anything u could think in a device.

Why does the SM-T815 run in 32bit mode, even under CM13?

Maybe this is what he meant;
How would one port a rom from one brand of tablet to another?
I would like to transplant the Samsung(presumably HC from the g-tab) Rom to the Xoom.
What needs to be modified to get this to work?
Does anyone have any experience with this?
That's the closest I can come to making sense of it.

Yes it can be done but no one here will do it. You understand me?
Xoom is Android 3.2. Samsung is 3.1. People here do not want to walk backwards.
When Samsung changes to 3.2 then yes it can be transplanted.

Pity. Motorola can not make such a nice UI user
Sincerely hope that Motorola can produce the perfect andriod 3.x ROM

I am glad to see a “Touchwiz UX for XOOM - Alpha Stage”
As follows:
Hi for all.
Its my port of Touchwiz UX for XOOM in early alpha stage.
Pay attention!
This is not final version, errors and bugs may occurs.
In this first step i make a package of launcher only, apparently fully functional. To test this, u need root and push twlauncher.apk to /SYSTEM/APP. If u dnt like and like to revert, simply remove then and older launcher will be reverted back.
Like my work? Pay me a beer.

Our device is a Google device you can add all that garbage if you want then what weeks or months for updates from Motorola. We get our updates pretty much directly from Google, they stop be Verizon first. You will notice the Google logo on the back. I'm pretty sure this is not the case with the device you guys are talking about. So your saying you don't like Google Android... (honeycomb) interface? Hopefully it will be improved when we get ICS.

About to purchase a used Galaxy S I9000

Sirs,
How are you all doing? this is my very first post and I decided to ride dirty with the android OS finally (I'm late..) Originally coming from that dead Symbian OS environment.. I love customization and everything related to tinkering the phones hardware and software..
So now I am about to buy a used galaxy S I9000, I just want to know what are the things to look for this used android unit? I can see it's just slightly used so what will I look for aside from the outside appearance? How about in the software itself?
I only know that the phone is on GB 2.3.3 I think and it has like a custom way of killing apps, launching..really it's my first time on android and I need professional advises and this is the best site to ask from, I know.

How do you want to use your phone?
In my opinion, this device is a disappointment for normal, everyday basic use.
If you really want android ride on SGS, keep yourself ready for be here on xda regularly for help (you tasted it already)and hacks,be ready to root your phone and be ready to reboot your phone n number of times(sometime it does auto ) and be ready to get a mixed feeling, sometime it makes you happy and sometimes you would like to throw it away.
Its my opinion based on use, not intended for anything else.

Unless you're installing the latest beta ROMs or custom ROMs, this phone is actually very stable and reliable for day to day use. And the UI is fast and responsive enough on 2.3.3. In any case, in terms of reliability and speed, the SGS is miles ahead of any Symbian device.
Wtf???
Mate. He said he likes to customize.
I have nothing but good things to say about my phone. Gps is accurate and always has been. I knocked back an sgs2 upgrade to wait for next nexus.
Check pixels and speaker.
Check Gps accuracy in maps.
Usb connects and check for 3 button combo to recovery/download mode.
Good luck and enjoy.

Guys,
My use of phone dialer, messaging and call logs comes under basic use.
And dialer lags, contacts gives message 'no additional info available' and then shows number.no matter which rom you use.
Even dialer removed from memory.
I have 2 phones in house one running stock 2.3.3 and one 2.3.5 so I am not imagining anything.
Dont reboot phone for a week and see what happens.
If it was all that good, all the ram tweaks, kernel tweaks, optimization tweaks, wouldn't even exists.
If your expr. & opinion differs post it.

well i want my phone for calls, sms, internet, productive apps, some graphically good games?, storage for photos(bought a 16GB microSD yesterday for this phone, excited am I?) videos-movies perhaps? some noobie photography (BTW I love that touch to focus feature!)
I guess I'm more into content, really LOL
Again thanks!
PS how to enter to download mode?
I'll try first dealing with the stock roms, is there any 2.3.7 GB for galaxy cause I see it everywhere along with the CM7? is that an official firmware or CM7 based on that OEM firmware? maybe when I want more, that's the time I'll do a CM7 flash..what about skype video calling or google talk? is it good in this phone?

Trollollololol - back under your bridge fellow.
"Do not feed the trolls"- epic quote
I will be using this phone for everyday use, k?
Another important thing to look for: if it enters Download Mode [Vol Down + Home + Power]
If not, it can be fixed, but it involves a little risk. This would be the only risky thing you'll do software wise, after your Download Mode works, it's very hard to brick the phone.

2.3.7 was a Nexus upgrade that added things like NFC, which most phones do not have the hardware to support this. CM7 uses Nexus source code. I don't believe anything helpful for you was added/changed.
And try not to believe the crap these people are spewing. My contacts, diallers, and whatever else that guy was rambling about are just fine. And obviously that is not a problem across all ROMs, considering most ROMs use different apps (for example, Samsung apps aren't run on AOSP ROMs—and I haven't seen this problem on either).
Good luck! It's an exciting phone.
wow, thanks to all of your advices dudes! what would be a good protector for this phone aside from the screen guards?

What have we got, and what do we need? (Development)

Hello everyone.
I will be getting this device soon and I am excited. About 2-3 years ago I used to help some devs build custom ROMS for a ZTE mobile, and I would like to contribute on this tablet now. Back in the day - things were very simple but I am sure everything has changed since then.
So my questions are - what tools do we have? What limitations does Samsung put in place? What tools do we need?
Let's get some development going guys? Would be nice to get the basics out the way so we can start to get "real".

Root is possible now. Some models without tripping knox.
Recovery is out as well, works fine for me but some still have issues.
If you can contribute to sorting that IMHO it would be a good step towards custom roms and kernels.

It's doable, but I'm not too sure on the precision. I know some people have used a remote connection app to use devices as graphics tabs. IMO it's not of major importance yet, and could probably be done pretty easily once we have the basics in place better.
If root is good without tripping Knox - that would be one thing sorted. I'll take a look into recovery when my device comes.

New owner contemplating lineage flash

Hello,
I am new to android and recently ordered a Leeco pro3 for $120 (couldn't pass it up). I have read that it does not get ota updates in the US, so I have a few questions. Is there any detriment to using an outdated android version? Can I still run apps like facebook, twitter, and Snapchat? If i flash to lineage, will I still have all of the features (camera, Snapchat and facebook apps, etc)? I know the IR blaster won't work, but this isn't an issue. I just have read that certain apps won't work and want to avoid having a phone with no camera or no social media apps such as Snapchat. Thank you all ahead of time.

If all you need is just core functionality then I would there is nothing wrong with running the stock rom. Everything will work right out of the box and all of those apps you mentioned should run just fine. Not to mention you should get really good battery life. With that said if you like some of the features that come with Nougat based roms such as better Doze and Camera API 2 support so you can install apps like google camera and give you camera a nice performance boost then go for it. I have installed all of the aftermarket roms available in this thread and IMHO Paranoid turned out to be the best. I havent had a single issue with it and it has the latest drivers taken from Oneplus 3's source code.

Thank you for the quick response. Given the fact that you have gone through using custom roms, have you been able to use snapchat on Paranoid? I have read that custom roms cause the app not to work. Also, for someone who has never used an android device, how hard is it to flash a custom rom? I am very interested in having a better camera, as I will be coming from a Lumia 950 XL (it has been deteriorating and Microsoft seems to have given up on W10M.). I know that this isn't on that level, but anything I can do to get the gap smaller is good. I am also interested in other features, but have to ask - is your battery life significantly worse running a custom rom? That would be a turn off. Thank you again.

Nope my battery life is near identical to stock and everything works on Paranoid. My favorite thing about it too is that all viarations of Google camera also work which will give you great pictures and videos if you play around with them far better than stock imho. But play with it first you will find that you can do far more on Android than you can windows mobile. The ecosystem just doesn't compare. If you want to to install a rom then follow the guides but make sure you do your homework before just jumping in. It's not difficult but a screw up could brick your phone. But there are also many guides for unbricking as well
Lineage has new Android versions first, but doesn’t have good battery life on this device, use a different ROM. If you want Snapchat, you can use a ROM that passes Safetynet or maybe Magisk’s hide feature. Oreo ROMs don’t pass safetynet, but some other Nougat ROMs do.

This is great news that the camera actually improves. Do you have snapchat issues with this rom? I just want to ensure I am able to enjoy everything android has to offer (well, as much as possible on a year old phone for now), as I have missed quite a bit of apps on W10M.

Paranoid does, so does AICP I think, both for nougut, not Oreo ones yet as SELinux is not working on Oreo. There are others that probably do also, but I haven't tried them yet.

This is tremendous. I am already turning into an android fanboy and I haven't even got the phone. It is quite impressive that the opensource community can get the latest editions stable on these devices. I just saw no need to go buy a galaxy or near $1K smartphone when the SD820 is still a powerhouse in my eyes. Do I have to root to install Paranoid, or just unlock bootloader and flash? (I may be missing a step but am going solely off of how I understood the guides)

SD821, not 820, the model with the 820, the so called elite, has nearly no development.
You have to flash a file to unlock the American model’s bootloader. (The SD821 powered x727 I think it’s called...) the Chinese model x720 has an unlocked bootloader, but is missing US carrier frequencies so it’s worse for Americans.

That's not great. I think I have the elite coming because it says SD820. Am I essentially screwed on roms?

It's a major difference in both hardware and support. I'd return it for a refund.

It looks like there are the same roms though. I even found paranoid. Is the 820 to 821 really that big of a difference? This thing was so cheap.

You are looking in the Pro3 elite forum?

Hmmm... it looks like there is development for it now, no Oreo, but there are some ROMs. I’d still return it though.

Can you post a link to where you bought it from so we can confirm the model and your options?

It stinks because I had an additional coupon bringing this to $120s. A dual sim (necessary for work) phone with a sd820 for that price seemed too good to be true and now it seems it is. However, if I can still get the play store ill be fine on any rom (would prefer a custom).

So ya you got the Elite. I do recall there being a couple of ROMs for that phone just poke around this forum and I believe you will find them.
you can find all the detailed specs here:
https://www.gsmarena.com/leeco_le_pro3_elite-8614.php
The only thing I would really be concerned about is band support and if you will get LTE or not. It looks like its a mixed bag here:

I checked the band support and that's good. Will this come with the play store though? And if not, is there a way to install it on the stock rom? I just want to make sure I have the basic apps (although I'd prefer a custom rom)

anyone got the s10+ camera apk for use om the n9?

The app looks better.
Anyone?
I believe it's pretty much the same except for that wide angle option.
I don't think we can use it on our N9's. I'd love to use it for that color pop selfie focus thing
someone needs to port it

Speaking of ports I always found it funny that folks would go through hell to Port another phone's camera like gcam but won't try to poet and upgraded version of their own such as this
Seriously thats true... it's much easy too. Should we start a request to dev thread or something.
the Instagram mode would be the main reason to port for me. would the port be possible?
Do we know any dev to whom we could ask for
I mean the mods skim and monitor these threads supposedly but they probably won't tag the people they know probably know how to Port stuff
Still wondering about this one.... Like... Gcams cool but can we get a port of our own updated software? Please?
I couldn't agree with you more.. Please any mod reply to our concern here.
here it is:

now just need someone to port it...lol

Not gonna lie I would try to learn how to Port an app my dang self because most devs and porters only ever want other phones software never to simply make an update for our owns available

that's the spirit!
I have not done a port in years. Always use to port things for my own amusement and development but after playing with the S10 camera I actually wouldn't mind it on our device. I will give it a try but I can't guarantee anything.
thank you soo much for the reply. hope you do it.. and thanks again for your help.

The Galaxy 10's camera allows you to make videos in HDR10+.
So I'd like them to port to Note 9.
First of all the S10 camera has hardware specific features. Secondly, the Samsung camera app is a system app that integrates throughout Samsung's OneUI allowing it to be used from within several Samsung applications seamlessly. Without root or the ability to first remove the stock Samsung camera, you can't install another Samsung camera whether it's ported or not, it won't be allowed to install and be given the system-wide permissions that are required for the camera to function the way the stock N9 camera does. Porting isn't the issue. It's getting around root, kernel DM-verity which will automatically prevent the phone from booting once a system app is modified and it's signature no longer matches. From my experience with this, it's simply not worth the time or effort since we have locked bootloaders and no reliable root method or ability to flash a kernel with DM-Verity disabled which would allow sytstem apps to be modified and/or replaced such as the Samsung Camera.
