LTE does not show up as option with specific Operator (MVNO) - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a SGS5 (SM-G900F) downgraded to Kitkat. (4.4.2)
I can use LTE with one operator A (4G shows in statusbar, speedtest measures above 50Mbits).
I bought a sim for operator B but I cannot switch to LTE mode in Mobile Data Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode. Any option with LTE is simply not available.
I tested the sim for operator B on an iPhone 6 plus, it works just fine.
I have found some guide for secret codes and walked through it to force LTE. It works, but it does not switch to 3G automatically when I receive a call (it does this with the card of operator A)
So I know that my phone does support both operators frequency bands, I can force it to work, but I want to have the convenience of automatic switching on a phone call.
Is there a list somewhere in the software that has flags for networks to enable and disable LTE options in the menu ? Can I edit this ? Where is it ?
Will updating my Android version fix this ? ( I would really prefer to avoid this, since I use SnoopSnitch )
Operator A is: Vodafone (DE), A1 (AT)
Operator B is: HoT (AT)->MVNO for T-Mobile (AT)

Loss of signal, no WCDMA/LTE, only weak 2G GSM signal - what is wrong?

Hello,
I have a huge problem with my Galaxy S5 SM-G900F. I bought it abroad and when I used it for the first time in my country I saw, that there is a problem with 4G/WCDMA connection. When I put my sim card to the phone and set all the preferences in mobile connection menu to "Auto" there is no possibility to call or to recieve calls (even if i saw signal strength meter showing some marks). I can only recieve and making call when I set "only 2G" option and manually select my network. But signal is also very poor.
What I have checked yet:
1. Other sim also doesn't work good.
2. After *#06# i saw my IMEI and it is the same under the battery and on the box (doesn't start from "00") so i think that it is not missed (efs folder).
3. Change firmware with KIES and ODIN for the other version - no changes. Also flash some other "modem" files with Odin with no success in better signal.
4. When im on the free air the signal strength is even at maximum level, but immidiately after going to my house - there is no signal. I saw also, that when im in the city i can connect with 2G network (only), but when im on a village there is no signal at all (even 2G...)
Do you have any ideas what can be wrong? Is this hardware failure? Maybe something with antenna? What should I do before going to gsm service center? Maybe i should change kernel and try some of the custom roms?
Thank you for your help.

Maybe there is a region lock? Does the Imei start with 35xxxxxx? Does the S5 support the local 4G bands of your provider? Maybe ask your provider for a new simcard. Correct APN settings applied?
My IMEI starts with "35....". Samsung S5 should be able to connect with WCDMA/4G LTE bands in my country. My sim card was changed about 3 months ago, so it is good - i have checked it in nexus 5 and everything works very well. All APN settings are applied.
How can i check if the phone has region lock? The phone is from UK and now I live in Poland.

You can check on the box. If is has region lock, there will be a warning message printed on the box.
Is there any warning message in the notification bar?
And please check as below:
While the phone is receiving LTE/WCDMA signal, open the Dialer, enter *#0011# --> capture screenshot (1).
Then press Menu > Back entry (not Back key) > Menu > Key Input > Q0 > wait for some seconds... > MAIN MENU > DEBUG SCREEN > NAS INFORMATION > MM INFORMATION --> capture screenshot (2). And then Menu > Back entry MM REJECT CAUSE --> capture screenshot (3).
And post these 3 screenshots.
I was able to connect to wcdma signal (I think) for some minutes. I give you all screenshots.

Is your network Polkomtel?
The error cause is: No suitable cells in location area - This cause is sent to the phone if it requests location updating in a location area where the subscriber, by its subscription, is not allowed to operate, but when it should find another allowed location area in the same network.
So may need to give this information to your network operator and ask them to fix.
So it is not the phone problem? It is my network operator error?
My network is Play P4, but this provider has no transmitters for his own in Poland (or has very few). He is able to use all of transmitters in Poland through the roaming (so teoretically i can connect with Polkomtel, T-Mobile and orange transmitters)

Engineer Mode/ testing menue / phone information wished on Honor 5X

Hi,
Booth Frensh free mobile and Iceland Nova IS, I am bored by the nation roaming with Orange-fr, and Vodaphone-IS witch reduce a lot the internet rate from 20Mb to 56kb in 3G and edge.
Thus I would like to force my terminal to do only 3G/4G (to delete nation roaming in Iceland), so I need to go to testing information by dialing *#*#4636#*#* and selecting phone information 3g-4g only.
unfortunaly, *#*#4636#*#* doesn't work on honor 5x: how can I acces to this hidden menu (available on every android's version)
To disable nation roaming with orange-fr witch is more nasty (since it is roaming in booth 2g and 3g, and more over, the teminal switch to orange even if free signal is the stronguest and never lost!) I need to disable umts 2600 band and LTE band 20. So I try to go to the engineer mode by dialing *#*#3646633#*#* but *#*#3646633#*#* doesn't work on honor 5x. What should I do to reach engineer mode witch should be installed on every android.
Cheers.
I have the same question. looking for the service mode or engineering mode where I can disable certain bands. I am using cyanogenmod, not sure if that changes the codes, *#*#INFO#*#* does work, but that's not the menu I want.
Bump!

How to force 'LTE only' on LG V20

This is a guide for those who want to force 'LTE only' on LG V20 Global dual sim version.
As anyone knows, *#*#4636#*#* WILL NOT work with LG V20 and all LG phones starting with Lollipop and later Android versions except for the LG-Nexus releases. LG has locked this menu. Samsung and Huawei are also notorious for locking this menu. These phones will show 'access denied' when you try to force 'LTE only' using the *#*#4636#*#* service menu.
There are however phone manufacturers who do not lock this menu. These include Sony, Asus, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi, Google Pixel, and Nexus phones (various manufacturers). I don't know why manufacturers lock this menu when it is very helpful to users in areas with weak but consistently available LTE signal. By being able to force 'LTE only', you get dramatically better speeds as compared to 3G only.
Anyway, the good news for LG V20 H990 (dual sim version) users is there's a way to force 'LTE only' despite LG locking out the *#*#4636#*#* service menu:
I've outlined here the steps for the workaround:
Note: For LG V20 (H990 dual sim model) only
How to set ‘LTE only’ data mode for SIM1 slot on
LG V20 H990 dual sim version:
Important:
1. When on ‘LTE only’ – you cannot receive calls but you can receive texts. If you go out of an LTE area, your SIM1 (on ‘LTE only’) will be off or will not have any network signal; it will not do automatic switching to 3G or 2G under ‘LTE only’ so you lose the ability to send/receive text messages as there is no LTE signal.
2. This setting only applies to SIM1 slot of the dual SIM model of LG V20 H990. This will not work on SIM2 slot so be sure to place your ‘data-only’ sim to SIM1 tray while placing your ‘call and text’ sim to SIM2 tray (so it won’t be affected by the ‘LTE only’ setting).
Here’s the code to input on your dialer:
*#546368#*990#
Field Test
Modem Settings
RAT Selection
Choose LTE only
If you want to revert back to auto network settings, you can follow the same procedure but choose 'GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto' or other settings instead.
It works, but sometimes it makes the signal to no signal.
Great
I trie many things to changing roms...None of them worked. I'm very thankfull to this simple solution. I chose LTE/GSM and now network problems completetely finished.
APK
The app LTESwitch will work. I uncheck all options in the program, and just use the dropdown setting from the status bar to select (L)TE or (A)uto.
A side benefit for me is that if I set it to LTE Only, the phone rejects all incoming calls. That way, if I'm downloading something, a phone call won't interrupt the download.
The unfortunate issue is that it breaks my ability to make/receive calls if I select "(G)SM Only". I'm sure that is because my market is almost exclusively HSPA/HSPA+ for calls.
However, if I need to force LTE, it does it immediately.
I then set to "Auto" for normal operation.
HTH
Looking for a solution for my new used H800K that is now rooted. Sadly *#546368#*990# does work on my old Hong kong model that I am leaving yet *#546368#*800# menu does not show Field Test, although my H990N can do it in the menu so I always had it on 3G only because radiation is very low compared to 4G, and even 2G is higher then 3G as testing. 4G is nearly always in the RED!!! Whereas 3G is in the GREEN nearly always.
Also helps not downloading to fast to burn up the mobile and make it slow.
So... Looking for a way to get only 3G on my H800K... Sad with all the nonsense they do to phones and waste so much time of ours. Tyrants is what they are, coding Tyrants!

(UK) Help with understanding Dual SIM

Hi all,
First time playing with dual SIM ad think Im missing something easy here.
I use GiffGaff (£5/m) and barely ever use data. Saw an offer from Voxi (Vodafone) for a 6GB data SIM. Grabbed one thinking I could use it as a second SIM just for data so I have a constant connection and a SIM I can move between devices where needed (MiFI, tablet etc, why I went with a second SIM rather than a different plan on my primary GiffGaff SIM)
Put the Voxi SIM in my Redmi, setup the APN and was greeted by the 4G symbol with the cross in the lower corner (no network connection but calls and texts work)
Now this is where Im getting confused. From what I can gather, only one SIM can be 4G while the other SIM will drop to 2G.
How do I go about setting this up correctly?
I do not need 4G speeds on the Voxi SIM as I only really need a constant connection, just enough to ping a few emails and Whataspp/Telegrams around.
Both GiffGaff and Voxi/Voda support 2G and would prefer the 4G to stay with GiffGaff for call quality.
So, I have:
GG in slot 1 (4G)
Voxi in slot 2.
APN set for Voxi.
Voxi set for Mobile Data
How do I now tell the Voxi SIM to connect over 2G and not 4G?
If I switch mobile data to the GiffGaff SIM, the 4G symbol from the Voxi symbol disappears so it must have switched to 2G but then GG is on data (with 4G sysmbol). When I switch back to Voxi GiffGaff goes to the no 4G but Voxi has the 4G with cross.
Is anyone here using dual SIMS like this in the UK?
Settings -> Network & Internet -> Mobile network -> Advanced -> Preferred network type
Did you try that?
Just tried every setting, in-between each one I toggled the mobile data switch and tried a ping and a Chrome page refresh
GiffGaff SIM = No 4G Logo and X (no network, calls and text work)
Voxi SIM = 4G Logo and X (no network, calls and text work)

Some things to note, I dont know if these are bugs in the ROM/AOSP or normal:
SIM Cards:
SIM Slot 1 shows "giffgaff - myphonenumber" and when clicked shows 'Operator - giffgaff' & 'Number - myphonenumber'
SIM Slot 2 shows "Voxi" - blank" (I edited the name to say Voxi manually) and when clicked shows 'Operator - unknown' & 'Number - unknown'
Mobile Network:
Enhanced 4G LTE Mode - This toggles the settings for both the GiffGaff and Voxi SIM regardless of within which SIM I set it
(Just found a reference to it here but no reply so dont know if this normal?)
This applies to the actual network in these settings as well. GiffGaff shows: Network - O2-UK, flicking across to the Voxi side it also shows O2-UK even if I untick 'Automatically select network' and search manually, choose Vodafone UK (Successfully registers on network) but doesn't change to 'vodafone uk'. The main sub heading under 'Settings - Mobile Network' shows O2-UK as well the status bar carrier info has always shown both giffgaff and vodafone uk no matter what.
These change if I completely disable SIM1 though, then it shows vodafone. I presume this is all because SIM1 is 'Priority' though. Doesnt help when troubleshooting
Also I realized I forgot to mention the ROM is ResRemix, not stock (oversight on my part, haven't used a stock ROM on a device for years, forgot they exist )
I have also tried the SIM in my old Nexus 4 and it worked with no issue so I am assuming it is definitely a device issue rather then a SIM/Carrier one.
Im going to try another ROM over the weekend, probably Lineage, If I get chance to try and get a baseline to see if this is ROM related though (although the ROM thread, people are saying dual SIM is working, mainly the JiO network(?))
Its also harder to troubleshoot when Ive never used Dual SIM before and have no idea how thongs should look and feel etc

Rooted K20 Plus (T-Mobile) stuck on 2G network

Hey everybody,
Recently rooted an American T-Mobile K20 Plus and removed the restriction on the network for use in Ireland. I can now register the phone to any network associated with the SIM card inserted into it. Unfortunately, the phone does not appear to be able to connect to anything but 2G internet even after changing Network Mode from GSM only to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto.
I'm wondering if there are any security measures pre-installed in the phone to block 3G or 4G internet outside of the USA or have I made any stupid mistakes? Phone pretty much needs the better connectivity for use as a hotspot. Any ideas would be great, thanks.
I have the same problem
Is it at all possible for you to access the phone's hidden settings and change the radio band under phone info to Automatic or Europe. It's likely it is set to United States by default.
K20 plus isn't able to use the frequency that irish carriers support.
