I would like to win because
1) I could use another "guinea pig" phibe
2) Show it off

I'd like an Honor 5X because:
1. I don't have an Android phone. I'm stuck with this. Not fun. This would be a worthy upgrade.
2. The phone has great specs all-around. All-metal design, fingerprint sensor, 8-core Snapdragon 615, etc.

So, I see this post today:

It was a little frustrating in that the article didn't list the site where the device is being sold through. If anyone knows, update this post, please.
Oh, and this was part the article outlining the perks of the higher end model:
"The high-end version of Mate7 is of amber golden and adopts a combination of 3G RAM and 32G ROM, it is also equipped with the exclusive Huawei gold membership privilege services card, the value-added services include exclusive service hotline, a boot gift bag of Huawei mobile phone application market, free of charge to use a 160G online storage in 2 years, this phone was formally on sale in Huawei mall on September 12th."
Found these two as I was browsing. The first is an actual preview, the second is just a comparison between AM7 and iPhone 6 plus.

I don't get why the press is comparing the iPhone 6 and the Huawei devices. I know, the i(insertnamehereproducttheyreallthesame) are what the fanbois are buying, but the two aren't even in the same category. I just don't get the comparison.
thank you for posting the comparison though, interesting to read nonetheless.

It does serve one purpose. To show how horribly designed the iPhone 6 'Plus' is. Look at those ridiculous top and bottom bezels. You would think that since Apple prides itself on having 'premium' designs for their products, they would have figured out a way to make a 5.5" phone smaller than a 6" phone. Hell, even the Note 3/4 is smaller than the iPhone 6 Plus, and they both have larger screens.
But what can you do, right. The lines will be around the block for it. The revolution has begun.
This one is kinda weak...
Not a very thorough review by any standards, but still, it highlights the very decent performance of the AM7. The pic at the top of the article doesn't match the AM7 though. I guess they just used a stock Huawei pic.

It's the same review site, but I don't think that video was made until at least a week after the written review was posted. The date on the written review is the 12th (the same date it was posted here in this thread), and the video review wasn't posted until the 18th. But I may be wrong.

Found another one, this time from Recombu (never heard of it before). But once again, seems like the Mate 7 is getting decent reviews.

This is only an initial review, but it confirms that the phone gets LTE on T-mobile. Great news.
http://www.zdnet.com/huawei-ascend-...inum-design-and-solid-performance-7000034132/
This isn't related to the AM7, but it is pretty good advice as to why you might want to think about waiting before getting the first production releases available:

This might be a deal breaker, as I use my note 3 which is not great but good enough for instagram etc... this noise is pretty bad though. Probably software related but how long for an update?

What brought me to buying the Honor 7

Hi everybody.
Probably this is useful for some of you. I just decided this month to buy an Honor 7. I ordered it on Oct 16 on the vMall website and received it on Oct 20 delivered to my place in Germany, so much quicker than I expected after reading about several delays and seeing a lot of online shops out of stock.
Before getting to this point of ordering it, I made a lot of thoughts and compared different devices. I have put those into the following list to get an overview. Since I received my new device two more devices were announced which I would have taken into account, whereby I don't expect that those would have changed my decision - these are the OnePlus X and the Honor 5X, which are from my perspective direct competitors of the Wileyfox Storm, which are all more mid-class then high-class devices. In mid-class range probably the Wileyfox would be my first choice. The HTC A9 is also interesting, but considering it's price and the super weak battery, I would not even create a column for that device.
https://goo.gl/uzqEa8
Devices included:
Nexus 5X
Nexus 6P
Wileyfox Storm
OnePlus 2
Honor 7
LG G4
Motorola X Play
After using my Honor 7 for roughly a week now, I am absolutely satisfied. Till now I still use it without the Nova Launcher, which means that I use the EMUI interface which has no app drawer. Something I still need to get used to especially as I fear to lose overview at a certain point, but I give it a chance first. Apart of that I'm pretty happy, the SmartKey is from my perspective more beneficial than I expected it to be and the fingerprint gestures are a nice gimmick, which makes using the device a little bit more comfortable.
Apart of that I've also faced some minor issues on the OS, but I already read before that there are some minor issues open and I hope that Honor (or rather Huawei) will fix them at some point, e.g. for several whatsapp messages I get several notifications instead of just one merged saying that I have X new messages. Anyway, all are just minor and for now I didn't face anything which would make me revoke my decision.
Hope this little support thread helps some of you in taking the best decision for yourself
If you got any questions on this overview or on the devices and why I decided for the Honor 7 and not any other, let me know.
I don't know if it will help, because most of people have the honor7 when they come on the honor thread. But it's kind of you to see how you managed to buy this phone

[General] A few questions/simple discussion.

I passed by the "Win an Honor 8" thing quite the few times and had recognized the name from somewhere. I don't have any luck when it comes to raffles and I have no income currently to get one myself so I wanted to ask some things in the forums here. (I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to talk about it.)
I saw that there was some major hype around the Honor5X/8(?) and I wonder what the main selling point for this is. Is it strong in any particular field such as performance, reliability, or photography? Thank you for putting up with my silly questions
Broad question. The appeal of the Honor 8, at least as far as I understand it, is good performance for a low price.
hey group
hey you guys im new to this forum im actually participating in the chance to win the honor 8. it looks like it will be a major player in the months to come. im currently using an oppo find 7 qhd display and ive had it for at least 2 years now. although i do not want to change phones since im so use to this one i would still purchase this phone and use it as my business daily phone
As far as Honor 5X is concerned, it targets the budgeted segment who expects metallic feel with Fingerprint sensor at the price point of 200$.
Honor 8 targets the photography part and its glass layered design. You can see the Saffire blue model for its attractiveness.
As far as all Honor Mobiles are concerned, 2 years software update is guaranteed unless there is any hard restriction such as Carrier support (or) Hardware support.

I looked into the Honor series a bit and I'm either considering the Honor 8 or the Moto Z Play right now to change from my Nexus 5. I will however miss the unlimited cloud storage for video and pictures. But frankly 16GB (12 usable) is way too little storage space nowadays and having to carry a charger at all times is dragging me down (by the pants at least) so I really need to upgrade. But thank you all for the discussion :3
Coming from CM as a daily driver I really dislike EMUI and it's a shame CM for the honor 8 doesn't work properly yet.
It's also been one of the main critiques of the Honor 8.
If you want it for gaming, don't. other than that, ignore benchmarks, day to day performance is fantastic which is the main reason why I got it.
The other one is the design.
Although the non gorilla glass back seems to be somewhat fragile according to some.
I also don't find it as slippery as most reviewers claim.
So yeah in short performance for the price is great.
For me personally it's an iPhone 6 for half the price and without iOS. So a great deal.

Sent my 6P in for repair, got a Mate 9

Hello,
so I am in a little dilemma.
After 20 months of using my Nexus 6p, I experienced the battery issue. I went to my carrier and they sent it in for repair. They told me it is a warranty issue.
Today, after 5 weeks of waiting, I was notified that my device is ready and I went to the store to get it.
However, I did not get my beloved Nexus 6P, instead they gave me the Huawei Mate 9. The paper I had to sign said "Motherboard changed/Replacement". The guy in the store told me, the Nexus 6P is not available anymore so they got me this, because "it's better".
I am a true believer in Stock Android and I have never used anything different from Stock Android. I like getting the newest features and updates from Google, being able to easily flash and modify my device. Also, I am a dev for native Android apps.
So there are two options in my eyes:
Keep the Mate 9
Sell the Mate 9 and maybe wait another 4 weeks for the Pixel 2 XL (considering I can even sell the untouched Mate 9 for a good price?)
What would you do? I am from Austria btw.
Best,
brnhrd

Why not head over to the XDA section for this phone and hang out a while to see what the current issues are? Mate 9 will never have the same level of community support, or direct updates from Google, but it may be a solid phone with support from several ROM/Kernel devs. The Mate 9 (64gb) is available in the US for $400, so even if you get a "new" price for it (you may get a refurb) you still have quite a deficit to cover if you are wanting a Pixel 2... or even Pixel 1. I'd keep an open mind and play with the phone for a while before making a decision. You can always wipe and sell.

Thank you for the reply.
The Mate 9 that I received is still in its original packaging, with the plastic foil around it. I did not yet dare to remove that foil and open it. I thought it would lead to less value when I wanted to resell...
The features I also miss with the Mate 9 are:
that higher resolution and beautiful amoled display from the 6p
the stereo speakers
the camera too I guess
Such a hard decision.

A lot is riding on how much you can get for it on the market there. If it was not explicitly represented as new, then it is refurbished. If you can't point to anything on the receipt or box that says NEW, then the value is greatly diminished already. The 64 gb Pixel 2 XL is $850 plus tax in the U.S. ($920).... and will be more to you in Austria. The (new) Mate 9 can be purchased here for $400. ($433).

What's your ETA for the Android O update?

So, a few sources say that our devices will receive the Android O update very soon and to pass the time, why not share our expected or assumed OTA roll-out dates? I think that we will receive the update by the end of this month. What about you?
Agreed. I think they will probably release a rollback package or something like that with the original firmware to go along with it (7.0).

It's ironic how you say this topic is irrelevant when you only reply with, "it's coming" which indicates absolutely nothing. This is a thread for everyone's expected ETA as the official rollout date is still unannounced. On another note, hopefully I won't deal with dense users like I did on the Le 2 forums, shudders.

From everything that I've read and taking Honor's past into consideration I think we may have to wait until March, which makes little to sense to me.
Why isn't Honor putting a little more effort into marketing this device? I've bought a half a dozen so far, primarily for friends that were still using phones from 3-5 years ago. They all love it and of course, coming from older devices, they feel like this device is a flagship!
Only real thing I miss is NFC, but my watch has it. 2.4 GHz is what I use for everything but my video streaming devices. I really could care less it still has a MicroUSB port.

Your Comments Caught My Eye...
You seem to be a very Nice and Thoughtful friend.. To purchased not only 1 of these devices for yourself.. but to gift over $1,200.00 U.S.D. / 985 EURO's to friends to update their devices.. is truly a friend indeed :good:
Since you are obviously a man of means... what brought you to this budget device in the Honor 7X ?
It's certainly not the fastest..
Or.. has the best display...
Or.. the most RAM..
Why not the View 10, Huawei Mate 10 Pro, One Plus 5T, Pixel, S8, Note 8 ???
What brought a man of your means to the Honor 7X.. I'm really curious to know if you don't mind sharing..
As a software developer I own a plethora of devices and usually carry a minimum of 2 devices. Generally I am very conscious of the condition of my devices and despite the fact the majority of them never leave an office environment, they are all plastered in screen protectors and cases, it seems like they become more fragile every year. The S8 has been my secondary to my Pixel XL 2 since I got it, but as soon as I received the Honor 7X I put the S8 in the drawer. The 7X runs naked and I'm not worried about dropping it. It has enough of what I need. I run package Disabler and remove most of EMUI and Huawei's bloat, with Pixel launcher installed, I have a very close to stock Android on a rugged unit that's as tough as a 90s Nokia!
