New to Systemless Root. Question. - X Style (Pure) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been rooting devices for years, most of them Samsung before my move to the Moto X Pure.
I have achieved systemless root. So far I've only used it to enable Sprint tethering, a simple build.prop edit.
What do I need to know before flashing roms? Can I flash roms as I normally would after my wiping protocols?
Thanks for any help in advance.

Rooting the Moto X PURE Edition 2015
Hi how would I go about rooting the Moto X PURE Edition 2015 without UNLOCKING the BOOTLOADER? I tried using Kingroot but it did not work. What worked for you?

Yes you can normally flash ROMs. As far as I know rooting dont have any effect on flashing ROM.

Check the twrp recovery install video it should have the root in it. Once the bootloader is unlocked just install twrp then flash supersu.zip in recovery to get root. It's pretty easy.

So what if you want to move from 4.4 to 4.4.2 from an ATT, rooted, non Dev, non custom recovery moto x? I was under the impression using this boot loader unlock method only worked for Dev editions..

You are correct. Bootloader unlock method only works for Dev Editions, and phones from T-Mobile, Sprint and other carriers where Moto gives out bootloader unlock codes. If you have an ATT or Verizon retail or Moto Maker X, and were not lucky enough to buy an unlock code from the Chinese seller (before it got shut down), you can not unlock your bootloader and use TWRP to root.
If you have a LOCKED (and not unlockable) bootloader, like ATT/Verizon, and you are on rooted 4.4 using SlapMyMoto and disabled write protection by using MotoWpNoMo, taking the 4.4.2 OTA update will revert the effects of MotoWpNoMo, patch the exploit used, and write protection will become re-enabled. You will likely keep root, but with write protection enabled, any changes you make to /system or the other protected folders will be lost at power off/on, making root less useful. Since 4.4.2 also patches the exploit used to gain root, if you hadn't rooted before taking 4.4.2, you wont be able to root it once its on your phone.
HOWEVER... If you are rooted & write protection disabled with 4.4, you could consider using SafeStrap with 4.4.2. I don't know how well it works (I have a Dev Edition, so I haven't tried it), but it is an option for using 4.4.2

[ROOT][PURE EDITION][LOLLIPOP] Root Moto X 2014 on Android 5.0 Lollipop

Chainfire has confirmed via a Twitter post his CF-Auto-Root tool now adds support for various Motorola devices powered by Android 5.0 Lollipop. :highfive:

How to root Moto X 2014 on Android 5.0 Lollipop using CF-Auto-Root

Step-2: Connect Moto X to the computer with a USB cable
Step-3: Unzip the CF-Auto-Root-xxx-xxx-xxx.zip file on the computer

Here's the info from the .zip file:
Code:
***WARNING*** ALL YOUR DATA *MAY* BE WIPED ! ***WARNING***
We are going to run the "OEM UNLOCK" command on your device. If your device was not previously unlocked, this will wipe all your data !
After the unlock, CF-Auto-Root will boot. You should see a big red Android on your device's screen
You don't need to be unlocked prior, but if you're not, you will be unlocked after the process completes, in addition to having all of your data wiped.
Thanks!

Have you personally tried this with a locked BL? In that zip I found the file and fastboot BOOT ( FILE NAME)
( I have the pure edition with a boot loader already unlocked)
Are you sure that its a UNIVERSAL method to unlock any phone compatible? I know that is what it says, but it seems to good to be true.

I don't have a locked boot loader Moto X to try it with, but I agree with you, it seems "too" easy since we had to jump through hoops to unlock out boot loader using the traditional method. I just went by the message in the batch file, not doubting the wisdom of Chainfire

I am about to purchase the Moto X Pure Edition for T Mobile. It is very important for me to maintain root on the latest stock OS for this phone. Do any of you perceive this as an issue? If am understanding this root proceedure, it is just modifying the current LOLLIPOP stock OS that is installed on the Moto X in order to achieve root? If so, then can the phone continue to receive OTA updates from T Mobile and still maintain root? That would be awesome if that is the case!

I don't have my phone yet, but I highly doubt that it will retain root after an OTA update.
Didn't work for me. Ran the Mac file and it ran the program and looked to work. But no root!
I have XT1096 with unlocked BL and TWRP recovery installed, what lollipop ROM can I install on it , currently have 4.4.4
Thanks

xt1096 bootloader unlocked!!! finally! I just unlocked my device.
Anyone wishing to unlock xt1096 verizon moto x 2014 2nd generation phone's bootloader, it can now be done through official motorola bootloader unlock web service. Hope this is good news for all who have waited as long as I have.
Apologies for posting this in mutliple places but I just pulled the trigger on Nexus 6 when this report came in through google now of all places. Glad it did. cancelled order and moving on to future freedom! Been too long since I have been able to root but love this phone.
This Is aweome news. My Moto x pure is shelved for now. Last night I unlocked my Verizon 2014, and installed CM13. Its been flawless so far. And everything but moto voice still works!
XT1096 Marshmallow ?
Wondering if any devs will port Marshmallow to our VZW model ? Is it possible to fastboot flash all files except modems from another MM firmware like the XT1092 orXT1097 ?

Only if you don't use Verizon service. When you flash the files from xt1092, xt1097, or xt1095 it loses CDMA, which means it won't work with Verizon's service. But if you don't use Verizon, then yes that will work fine, just don't flash the radio files and you can have marshmallow on the xt1096.
Sent from my XT1095 using Tapatalk
Thanks for the reply, unfortunately I am on verizon and was hoping that just leaving out the radio files would work to get MM on the phone. I was just assuming that if CDMA was working on the CM roms that it would be possible for it to work on a MM rom also.
Guess I will be satisfied with having u/l bootloader, root, and TWRP installed which is way more than I ever thought would happen to this phone so its all GOOD !

You can use some custom marshmallow roms with cdma. For example cm13 works.

Moto Voice doesn't work! Even better!
I've had so many problems with that crap...
I am on an XT1096 with an unlocked bootloader and running CM13. I am able to be on the phone while browsing the web, which is something I couldn't do on Lollipop. That and significantly better battery life are (at least) two reasons to upgrade.

Completely stock XT1096 (Verizon): Device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking..
Anyone have any idea why I am receiving a "bootloader cannot be unlocked" message ("Your device does not qualify for bootloader unlocking") on the Motorola site. I have an XT1096. I previously had the same model and was able to successfully unlock. Had to replace phone with the same model from Asurion and am now receiving this message when I attempt to unlock. I have run the process several times and have even used the Data Scrub Tool to ensure that my unlock codes are formatted properly. No luck...
Thanks

You luckily have an unlocked bootloader too.
Question... I just got my turbo 2 today and logged in, set it to see developers options in it, and it has the option to disable locked bootloader... Does this truly not disable it?
