You luckily have an unlocked bootloader too.

Question... I just got my turbo 2 today and logged in, set it to see developers options in it, and it has the option to disable locked bootloader... Does this truly not disable it?

Nope, as discussed in other threads, that's in the OS for the Nexus devices and doesn't apply to ours.

I'm not sure if there will be a separate one. I've seen posts where people are suggesting combining the two. Does that make more sense to do it that way?
If they are the same phone just different battery sizes sealed within then I would say yes.
Hey I have the maxx. I've been rooting and using adb lightly for years. If someone just tells me how to do a system dump I'll provide one for the maxx just to make sure all is the same.

Check the twrp recovery install video it should have the root in it. Once the bootloader is unlocked just install twrp then flash supersu.zip in recovery to get root. It's pretty easy.

So what if you want to move from 4.4 to 4.4.2 from an ATT, rooted, non Dev, non custom recovery moto x? I was under the impression using this boot loader unlock method only worked for Dev editions..

You are correct. Bootloader unlock method only works for Dev Editions, and phones from T-Mobile, Sprint and other carriers where Moto gives out bootloader unlock codes. If you have an ATT or Verizon retail or Moto Maker X, and were not lucky enough to buy an unlock code from the Chinese seller (before it got shut down), you can not unlock your bootloader and use TWRP to root.
If you have a LOCKED (and not unlockable) bootloader, like ATT/Verizon, and you are on rooted 4.4 using SlapMyMoto and disabled write protection by using MotoWpNoMo, taking the 4.4.2 OTA update will revert the effects of MotoWpNoMo, patch the exploit used, and write protection will become re-enabled. You will likely keep root, but with write protection enabled, any changes you make to /system or the other protected folders will be lost at power off/on, making root less useful. Since 4.4.2 also patches the exploit used to gain root, if you hadn't rooted before taking 4.4.2, you wont be able to root it once its on your phone.
HOWEVER... If you are rooted & write protection disabled with 4.4, you could consider using SafeStrap with 4.4.2. I don't know how well it works (I have a Dev Edition, so I haven't tried it), but it is an option for using 4.4.2

It's part of Lollipop, part of the security measures. And no, it won't mean that we can unlock our bootloaders. Unless Verizon and Motorla change their stance on unlocked bootloaders.

if you disable that option, you can flash things on the phone leaving the phone unlocked and open.
Here's a screenshot from mine. It's kind of strange to me that they're talking about security and locking features but it clearly says allows bootloader to be unlocked. But I'm skeptical, unlocking a bootloader in my experience has never been as simple as a flick of a toggle.

My Moto Maxx/Moto Turbo XT1225 has unlocked bootloader, as does the U.S. Moto Maxx XT1250, which is the device IDENTICAL to the Droid Turbo XT1254 (same FCC ID). The XT1250 runs just fine on Verizon with Verizon LTE SIM card (like a non- Verizon Nexus 6).
Speaking of which, the Motorola Nexus 6 has unlocked bootloader.
My point is, it's Verizon that is obsessed with locked down bootloaders, not Motorola.
Sorry, but

Sorry, I don't believe you.
Install TWRP and root and post screenshot. If your bootloader is unlocked, that will take 5 minutes.
Another reason I don't believe you is because if this were true it would be all over the Droid Turbo 2 forum and over there they are still complaining about locked bootloader and no root. So, you really don't know what you are talking about.
_____
The Moto X Force (KINZIE) is the International version of the Droid Turbo 2 (KINZIE). It does have unlock-able bootloader, and has TWRP and root. When the Droid Turbo 2 bootloader actually is unlocked TWRP and root for KINZIE will work on it, just like TWRP and root for QUARK works on the Droid Turbo XT1254 (Quark) with all the other Quarks.
And over there, they are still ONE forum, just like all Quarks were one forum until a couple of months ago. So, it's easy to keep track of what's happening with all Kinzies.

Sorry to bust your bubble, but that slider...yeah, it was on the Turbo when we got the 5.1 update. I could slide it to the "Unlock" position until I was blue in the face, but it had about a snowball's chance in hell of actually unlocking the bootloader. As @ChazzMatt suggested, try to flash TWRP and if you can, I'll eat my words. But the days of an easy unlock on VZW phones are long gone.
So, I just bought a Moto X Style.
And on the Developer options, also have the slide saying OEM Unlock.
It said that, meaning, during the process, the system/ tool will need the permission to unlock
and that slide allows that to happen

Not relevant whatsoever for the Verizon locked down bootloader Droid Turbo XT1254. I wish people wouldn't keep digging up old threads that have been refuted.
The only thing that works with the XT1254 is paid Sunshine fueled exploit. Other Quarks (XT1225/XT1250) can be unlocked via Motorola website for free.

At least we' re doing something,no matter what' s a result.
Verizon isn't going to let Motorola bl unlock these phones until they stop selling them like the X
But there is a new unlock exploit coming very soon that *will* work on the 8960/pro, so most of us will at least get 5.1 via cyanogenmod, it should breathe new life into these devices for at least the rest of 2016, maybe longer.
Maybe there is a chance to even get 6 via cyanogenmod eventually if the drivers can be ported from 5.1 ? Or is that an unrealistic expectation?
Let's hope this new 8960/ pro exploit is real for the sake of those who have not had the pleasure of running LP and MM on their machines. My MAXX and OG Moto X have been on LP for over a year now and it ran much better than KK other than the cell standby bug. I just flashed CM13 on this phone and it is even better. Testing out doze now, seems to be pretty good on the battery. This is a great phone, if it is bootloader unlocked!

root exists on the (verizon) mini/maxx/ultra (same phone internals) because of work done by crashxxl to bypass the bootloader and write over the rom via qload driver mode - basically he writes the changes needed for root and SU
I believe he figured it out by studying the developer edition of the device which is bl unlocked
it works quite well, we have root and xposed but wp=1 of course
laginimaineb's next announcement will open the device for everyone but I don't think he is releasing a proof of concept, at least not for this phone model, so if you are willing, we could probably really use your help when that happens
I'd be happy to send you a mini (to keep) if that will help motivate you

it's kitkat 4.4.4 - the only option right now unless you have a developer model or paid for sunshine so you can use cyanogenmod, etc.
SU6-7 rom was built December 2014 (sunshine cannot unlock this one)
SU4.21 rom was built June 2014 - sunshine CAN unlock this version but if anyone has accepted the OTA, it's too late because now the phone is SU6-7.3 and fuse blown
I can send you either SU4 or SU6 to play with

SU4 hasn't been available for a year now, maybe longer and you cannot downgrade these phones
verizon now ships all of them with SU6, so no sunshine, and verizon refuses to let motorola unlock the bootloader like they did with the X

Rooting Failure Droid Turbo 2

Hey guys,
This is my first post and I have no idea what I'm doing so please correct me if I'm doing something wrong. I am trying to root my Droid Turbo 2 using Kingo. Every time I get to 53% it skips to 100% and then says the root failed. I saved the log, so I can post it if someone wants to see it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Check with the app manufacturer to see if it is compatible with the Turbo 2.
As far as I know there is no publicly available root or unlock for our device.
Droid 2 Turbo hasn't been rooted/unlocked yet so that app isn't gonna work.

that's not particularly likely. with each new version of android, and with the new security updates, the chance of finding even a temp-root exploit has decreased exponentially. Plus, with the lack of developer motivation for the turbo 2, there is even less of a chance. The only real chance is a new version of something like towelroot, a one-size fits all solution
