How to disable user apps in Marshmallow? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Pretty much as the title says. In Marshmallow, I simply can't find how to disable a user app, I can only see how to disable system apps.
Am I missing something? Please tell me they have not removed this as a feature.
I've tried searching, but to my surprise haven't been able to find anyone else discussing this issue.

You can freeze then with titanium or uninstall them.

There's no disabling *user* apps in the first place - it's meant for system apps only.

Why should I disable user apps when I can uninstall them?

because some apps share libraries and if you uninstalle certain apps other apps won't work or even FC's all around can occur. exactly one of those scenarios where users blame roms and kernels with simple statements like: "this" or "that" doesn't work, please fix it.
from the tone in your question i can well imagine that that's a bulls eye here. if you don't know, don't think those who do are doing things for no reason, perhaps they simply know better.

I am not sure if you got me right or if I get you.
Yes, I had this tone because if you install an app - and that would be my definition of an user app - you can simply deinstall it if you don't need it anymore and nothing will happen except loosing the app data.
Of course nobody should freeze or even deinstall any system app if you don't know what that will or could cause, but in my understanding that was not the question.

I have entune for my toyota installed, i dont want to have to re sign in and redownload the app everytime i drive that car. I used to be able to disable the app when i didn't need it. Now that option isnt there. Same goes for peel remote. I dont always need it running, just when im at the bar and want to change channels
Has this option really been removed? That would be a big step backwards imho.

Delete a Program Shortcut

Just a heads up if no one knew... Instead of going through the system setting to delete a program, just highlight the icon of THAT game/APP/program and drag to the garbage at the bottom and hold there. You will get a "drop to uninstall" option and vua-la... hope that helps...
The thing is that that only works with apps that we downloaded ourselves. Most of wanna get rid of the apps that came preinstalled. (Which can only be done with root)

Wow, what great timing. I don't mean to hijack your thread haha.
If you don't want to uninstall apps but you don't want to see them in the drawer, then the the newest version of LauncherPro can help (if you already use it)! I literally just updated like 10 minutes ago and it has a feature to hide shortcuts from the app drawer! Best feature evaaaaaar.

For rooted users and non-rooted users, but rooted users have the advantage here as they can use 3rd party apps like bloat freezers and titanium backup.
I don't recommend deleting system apps permanently from the system due to the fact that if you accidentally uninstal an important system app it could create system force closes ect.. But if you freeze the apps you don't want then you can always de-freeze them whenever you want and it's very safe and could be handy at times.
For root users i recommend titanium backup to freeze and De-Freeze applications
For non-root users > Just go to settings>Application Manager>All ( select the app you want and Select "Disable") , this is also like freezing apps using titanium backup but the apps you can freeze are limited due to the fact that you don't have root permission but still you can freeze more than 70% of the apps to free some ram and save some battery

Thanks for a detail thread, but why are you saying the music.apk(music player) is a bloatware? Rest all at the list are fine. But if all the 'allshare' files are removed, then 'screen mirroring' (on n3 moded rom) will not work. Could you please add some more explanation about removing which file may stop other things to work?
Thank you so much again for the effort.

I wasn't talking about comparison. I meant by being "safer". There's gonna be many who would just freeze/disable all these and flood various threads that "this app/feature is not working" or "that stopped working" like WiFi Direct, DLNA, Email, Weather, etc. I meant by that.

Well for your 1st point
not everyone use the stock Music player on their devices right .. including me .. and that's the reason why i named music.apk as a bloat so u can keep it freezed where it won't run in background as it does
And the all share files and screen mirror, not everyone use those features also right? i mean it's not like we use those features daily. so why give ram to that when we can just keep it frozen and de-freeze it when we actually use it ?
Same goes with wifi direct if u ask me
just de-freeze it when you wnna use it so that way we have more ram and can get a good battery life ultimately
it doesn't take much time to defreeze few apps right so it's a small price to pay in order to get a good battery life with more free ram.
well it might be just the way i see it. but it's working pretty good for me.. hope it does for you all .. that's why i shared this

As i replied to nitrol, we don't use wifi direct like every day and that's why i said it's ok to freeze it to get some more Juice
just de-freeze it when u wanna wifi direct and that's it .. it costs some time but that's worth it i guess when compared with the battery an ram u save . that's just the way i see i guess

don't freeze everything i've mentioned here, just freeze what you don't use. You can guess what app you're freezing when you read the name , if you don't know what the app is when you read the name it's just a system fine that we don't use or don't need so just freeze and see what happens but i assure no force closes or any other errors will come, but if any errors pop .. just de-freeze the frozen apps and see. You will get a good battery life and more free ram after freezing these apps.

[Q] Default Apps not working?

Whenever I've clicked on a phone number to call via Google Maps, it would always show up that defaulted apps and ask me what i wanted to use.
Everytime it pops up, i keep clicking "Always" for the default dialer. I thought it would set it as default, but when i had to look up a business to call their place, that "Default Apps" keep popping up. Is this in any way connected to Samsung Hubs like how screen Rotations was related to samsung hubs removal?
Is there a way to fix this? I don't want to have to click it again while driving.

I tried it myself and it went right to the dialer without a pop up. What apps is it asking you to choose from? More of a work around than a fix, but... If you do not use the other apps, can you delete them? That way you shouldn't see the pop up?

There were two, one a dialer and the other one is the Lookout. The one with the Lookout always ask to scan before dialing out. Don't get why it keep asking that.

I installed Lookout and was able to reproduce your experience. That might be the way lookout works. As a security app, it gives you the chance to scan everything before executing. OR It could just be a bug.
One thing is for sure... Lookout is the cause of your grief. You can play around with the Lookout settings, but in the end, you may have to choose what is more important to you.

Pretty much.
In my opinion, the whole concept of Android is not be tied to 1 thing only, do whatever you want.
And that's really annoying when Google makes you keep an app that you don't need just because it is tied to another app.

You mean the AOSP version, not G+ Photos? Keep an eye out for an apk, or flash one of the AOSP versions of loli. Though I'm not sure if Gallery is present there, but I assume it is.
Wait to CM12

I flashed on my Nexus 4 Google's factory images, yeah, the animations are cool and pretty fast but Google makes me have to use Google+ for example.
I don't use it and don't need it, but If I uninstall Google+ I can't use Photos, and It is the only gallery app on the device..
What can I do?
I just want the old Gallery...

Dont click on Google+? It doesnt force you to do anything with it. Yeah I suppose its annoying if you cant uninstall it but just ignore it and problem solved?
Here's the AOSP Gallery you wanted: https://www.sendspace.com/file/cyym47
Make a folder named GalleryGoogle under /system/app and paste the .apk inside the folder you created. Set the permissions accordingly and reboot(if you're not sure about permissions, check the other folders and .APKs' permissions using Root Explorer). If it doesn't work, you need to do something with the lib files.
i kinda see his point. the first thing i always do when i flash a new rom or in this case stock image is get root, get a app like "root uninstaller" and start deleting all preloaded apps that i don't want like google+ and earth and newsstand, etc. i like a clean OS with just what i want and it doesn't hurt that doing so also free up more ram and system storage
but now i can't do that AS MUCH as i want cuz some apps are link like google+ and photo. Until i find a good 3rd party app that looks good with the OS to replace some linked apps i'm stuck like this
