[Q] Touch sensitivity / faulty touch input ZUK Z1 display - Zuk Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Got my Z1 two days ago and this annoys me like hell:
Sometimes I have to rather touch the display with more pressure so the digitizer reacts to my input.
I installed a touch test app and when putting my finger slowly and gentle at the display I get no app output.
If I intensify the touch it reacts. Cuz of this sometimes when going through the UI I have to press an UI element two times or a bit harder.
This is the first time that a device I got has such a problem. The problem is there with tempered glass and with a hybrid display protect layer (plastic glass hybrid).
Never using any device without display protection.
Faulty hardware? Please no. I ordered at efox shop which really is a pain in the **s when it comes to warranty and RMA.
My Mi4 (RIP) even reacted when just hovering above the display, and had a very accurate touch input system.
So this is why this annoys me like hell. The ZUK touch input is not precise and the sensitivity sucks.
Did any of you experience something like that with your Z1?

Update:
I was very pissed first, installed a test tool for the touch.
It could be seen totally clear that the touch was not very precise. I could touch the screen very very softly, then giving more pressure and nothing happened. Pressing more harder the tocu test app gave output.
I thought; well I'll have to send it back because the digitizer is faulty.
I flashed unrooted stock cm-12.1-YOG4PAS3OH-ham-signed.zip from the Cyaonogen OS website then after making a full wipe (keeping my SD-memory untouched).
Same problem again, the touch sucked, even lag was less and the fresh flash got me a more fluid experience. I was wondering though; trebuchet and music FX FC'd various times.
I guess cOS YOG4PAS3OH is just buggy...
I flashed cm-12.1-20151211-NIGHTLY-ham.zip from the CM site then, because I did not want to give up.
Clean install of the newest nightly and voilĂ ... touch is working very precisely, even the softest touch input gives output with the touch test app.
Sadly no audio at all is working for me with cm-12.1-20151211-NIGHTLY-ham.zip. No output, no recording... nothing.
But the CM build is more fluid than the cOS build, it feels really smooth.
So now I am stuck with a good device and two buggy ROMs which I both do or can not want to use as daily driver.
Aaaargh!

Reboot the device. The audio issue most likely originates from twrp.

Sir, you were right.
So now I will test this build. Hope there will be a stable soon.
I was not into CM for quite some time now. Heard stuff about battery drain on the ZUK Z1.

I'm not happy with the touch. Sometimes it's oversensitive, most of the time unresponsive first time and occasionally works fine. I'd love a stock Marshmallow rom. This is way too buggy. I've rooted every Nexus and others like the note 1.People laughed at the size of it May give this away at Christmas and stick to my fast, reliable nexus 5 while I save for a 5x.I did want an Asus zenphone 2 but they were sold out ( Bought this for 1 storage 2 battery 3price. Buy cheap buy twice they say.....

With CM (not COS) it is better.

Did notice the touch screen issues but not the screen issues people report yet.

Yes Dude Same Problem With Me But I Have Got A Solution Just now You Have To Increase the Pointer Speed To A 80% And You Can Feel That Smoothness That You Wanted And One More Thing Disable Swift Key Like Apps Too

Huawei s7 slim wins... my weekend with Nook color, Acer A500 and the new S7 slim

I will revisit this soon with a full comparison... but in the end I kept the s7 slim
in the end..the a500 is going back....the nook color is going back...and of all three that I tried over the weekend...I am actually keeping the s7 slim. The screen though not as bright had much deeper colors and was much crisper. The UI is fantastic and I didn't get all of the choppiness and lag that was present on web pages and videos on the a500.
the really cool thing about the a500 is that usb port...I could see many people using that for photography etc...but I do caution you...compared to other screen side by side the a500 just didn't display depth and color well at all.
I also had some issues with wacky things like That wifi issue some are having is really odd...mine may have been doing it as well ..all I know is the screen kept waking...over an hour period just sitting there it would occasionally wake ..then sleep..then wake...about every 10 minutes or so it would wake to the lockscreen for 5 minutes.
The external sd card cannot be read via a computer, you have to remove it and add etc via a reader
Stupid Short power cord, and the lack of USB charging of the unit
Ridiculously bad about finger prints and smudges (I know I know..a screen protector would help here..but this was just out of the box comparison of the three)
I am sure some of the issue with the a500 will be solved over time if the Devs can get a working recovery on it.
All three were ridiculously easy to root...but there really is no good recovery option for the a500 or s7 slim yet. I am sure this will be solved over time.
The rooted nook had a real "neato" factor..but hardly practical for my use. After an hour or two navigating through the menus and hitting softkeys and downloading some apps I knew it would be going back.
Well...I am torn now...I figured out how to fully root 1.2 on the Nook and I have to say...this thing rocks!!!!!
Wish I had read this first
Rooting the NC 1.2 is basically worthless. I spent most of a day getting a CM7 mod running on it, and while this is kind of cool, its underpowered compared to a huawei out of the box. The only benefit that I found when rooting / flashing the NC, is that its really easy to restore to stock. I have another 10 days or so to return it, but I've basically come to the decision that the S7 seems well worth an extra $50. You mention the lack of a good recovery option... does this mean the S7 slim is easy to brick?
I'm new to rooting android devices... and I don't really want a $300 paperweight.
Well...I jacked with mine for 2 weeks and didn't brick it...I was always able to get into the system settings menu and restore it.
It is possible though...with lack of a recovery there is no way to run custom roms etc ...
the nook was cool but I couldn't get everything working. I almost changed my mind and kept the nook... but in the end I actually took all 3 back. I found that I was doing far tooo much work to make any one of the three operate the way I wanted.
The s7 and the iconia have no recovery option...and there doesn't seem to be much development
I will give it a few months and see what else is out there and what progress has been made in development
Actually I have the nook and will return the slim tommorow to best buy.
Nook has the best display from every viewing angle and tons of developers (I run with cyanogenmod 7.0.3) fully stable no problem whatsoever. And with the new nook apps I can read magazine now.
the Slim 7 has problem from the start
1. google account (like market) cant connect to the server with wifi and the work around you need to factory reset.
2. You cant install any 3rd party launcher without soft bricking the device after reboot.
3. the speaker keep making chirp sound whenever you touch the screen or home, setting and back button.
4. the stock launcher eat so much memory, only set in landscape mode and so buggy.
Unless someone start developing a custom rom the s7 not ready for primetime.
i have to admit it has killer hardware specs.

[Q] Did i get a lemon.

So i am about 3 weeks into my LG G2 i went custom AOSP from the very start. never even touched stock. I had weird graphical glitches which i chalked up to the AOSP stuff. I also had weird touch screen issues. like double clicks when i was dragging my finger. I also had odd shaking. like if i would drag from one screen to the next and stop in the middle instead of the panes being static they would shake way way worse then i have even seen on a phone. after about 3 weeks it got to much. i went back to stock to see how it felt. i have the same graphics issues. and i think some of the same touch screen issues. Although i didn't stay long enough to really test, but the graphical glitches are there. I can reproduce anytime i want on AOSP or Stock.
Did i get a lemon?
I can post a video if anyone wants to see any of the symptoms.

What are the graphics and touch screen issues? Care to elaborate? I've had 3 g2s in about 2 weeks and have experienced the high pitched buzzing in the ear piece when making a call and the touch screen issues when the phone is used playing video or games after 45 minutes or so the touchscreen becomes erratic and the scrolling goes crazy. There's a couple videos on here showing the touchscreen issues when writing in a quick memo (looks like an EKG). Maybe a little more info on your part will give us a better idea on your problems though.

Why did you wait 3 weeks before you came to the conclusion you have a lemon? And with all those issues why you even asking that stupid question?
Sent from my LG-D801 using xda app-developers app
Sounds like 4.4 issues with the graphical stuff. Its common because we don't have a proper port yet.
I suggest you ALWAYS use your phone stock for a week or else you have no idea if its software or hardware when things go wrong.
I suggest you flash back to stock and waiting it out and see for yourself.

I will see if I can make some videos to show of what I mean.

The touch screen issues are present in all G2s, it's whether or not a user "triggers" it that's the question. I've seen it in both AOSP and stock. So your touch screen is "fine." The other issues are not normal though.
Sent from my LG-G2 using Tapatalk
To conclude if anything is normal or no...you need to have your phone completely stock...What player911 said is the right thing to do.
So i swung by verizon and sure enough the demo model showed no signs of what my phone is doing...
btw i did say i went back to stock to test it and both the graphic issues and the touch screen issues have been present. I cant always reproduce the touch issues but the graphic glitches is some sore of faulty unit. I will try to get the to replace it on monday.

This is not true! I have the Verizon variant and I have no issues with the tough screen at all...ever?? In fact, for whatever reason (maybe because Verizon is more closed/careful/anal/controlling) I read of more issues with other carriers than I do with Verizon. So either it's Verizon, or maybe Verizon's version got a better batch of hardware while the others got a bad batch??? :crying:
Return it and get a new one. If you were at the store, I would have already done this. Its under warranty regardless.
Touchscreen is very responsive on mine. Maybe too sensitive. Sometimes I don't even feel my fingers touching the screen.

Poll: Does your OnePlus One experience ghost touches

I just wanted to get a poll going regarding "ghost touches" on CM11s 33r release. When I first updated to 33r, the touch screen was great and it seemed like the firmware update fixed the issue. However, after using my device, the touch panel once again became stubborn and the "ghost touches" appeared once again.
This issue reminds me of the 2013 Nexus 7 which to this day still hasn't been resolved. It is weird how the phone will work fine and then all of a sudden become unresponsive. I notice this especially when typing, sometimes the keyboard will show a swipe gesture even though I am physically typing.
nope, never had this problem.
I had this problem 1-2 times in a month of usage. Not a great issue but it definitely existed. With 33r i experienced no more ghost touches, just some occasional touchscreen freeze (unlocking phone was impossible until the system reboot).
Issues that are making me angry are others: touchscreen responsivity and precision, for example. Typing with my 1+1 is a total pain.
working smooth & fast no problems...
had ghost swipes ever since I got CM11S and had it for every update. Didn't really get better each time.
was on stock kernal now with ak, just a BIT better but still experience it every 6-7 words.
Hope they completely fix this soon.

I had ghosting everywhere
I am so far surprised on the results. I have two friends with the opo and both of them also have the touch screen issue. Is there any info we can compare to see if there is a different touchpanel used for those who are experiencing the problem vs those who are not?
For sure. Mine still have. For me the biggest problem is the poor latency performance, the worst that i experience. Coming from a HTC one, M7. Running nightlies actually.
Have ghost touches since update to 33R, never before. Is this sw or hw related?
Especially when typing moderately fast, the screen does not seem to be able to distinguish between two touches. It kind of "swallows" the symbols I have pressed on the keyboard resulting in a disastrous typing experience. Before I had a Nexus 5 and it that respect it was definitely more precise (and sensitive) to touches. Typing without any hiccups. Just the way it should be.
Also sometimes my opo, while surfing through websites; when I try to touch a small hyperlink, it doesn't seem to recognize the interaction. I have to touch the link several times to get the screen to recognize it.
This, paired with the typing issues makes using the opo awfully complicated touch-wise. I have to artificially slow down my typing speed to lessen the erratic behaviour of the screen. A no go in my opinion and I am thinking about returning my opo and insist on a refund for the stated reasons.
This is a major problem and OnePlus better get their asses up, admit the faults and solve the problems.

Same here. I love this one plus one, but the typing issue is a huge problem for me. If they don't fix it I'll have to jump ship when I can get something new.

Agree. It's a love-hate relationship; the specs and furthermore the price-performance ratio are absolutely great but that one issue really keeps me off staying with the opo.
I will wait a bit and see how well the problem-analysis goes. Considering how the alleged touchscreen driver fix didn't fix anything at all (at least for me) makes me seriously doubt that there will be a final fix for this issue, ever.
no typing issues or lag its way faster than note3 on par with nexus 7 if not slightly smoother in total experience. since i got used to sony's xperia keyboard i'm using the kk emoji keyboard from playstore on ONO which is faster.
I used to have them all the time, to the point I couldn't get pass the lock screen.
I even though of doing an RMA, while hesitating. I decided to do a full wipe and install crdroid ( i knew the developer had them to and was trying to fix them ) now it's a thing from the past I never get them anymore.
I'm not saying crdroid is miracle fix, I'm just stating what happened to me.
If your rooted and occasionally flash ROMs it may be worth a try.
Also a friend of mine just received his today. If he has ghost touches will try crdroid again and if it works will report here.
Nope, nemas problems on my phone.
Had it for the first time couple of days ago. After rebooting the device, everything went normal.

After initial flashing I had the ghost touch issues but after a few days they went away...my 2013 Nexus 7 does the same thing and it pisses me off cause I'm rebooting the thing every couple of days to fix it.
Having some touch issues, 33r update, i don't know how toy call them ghost touch it whatever it's very annoying when i try to pull notification bar it pulls back down, and i get more typos thought it was me typing bad =)

Well probably my issue is touchscreen latency, anyway that is not a catastrophic, they will fix it, so brace yourselves update is on the way [emoji6]
Previously i have no ghost touch at all.. But suddenly, i got ghost touch after the update.. I dun know why man.
Any1 suffering this issue ?

Getting To The Root of The Scroll Lag

Okay, I've done some observations on the scroll lag issues and here's what I know.
- It persists on 8.1 ROMs too
- It mostly affects custom ROMs
- Switching kernels does not fix it
- Max CPU and GPU does not fix it (even OC)
Here's my suspected causes:
- Our touchscreen driver is bad
- Our touchscreen panel is bad
- Included screen protector is bad (anyone have scroll lag without it?)
Tell me if you notice this too, but when I scroll with my finger in the top right edge, I get almost 0 lag when scrolling. Is it possible its the display sensitivity that isn't stable? Do you feel this too? Maybe its other areas of the screen too.
Please share your ideas and thoughts. We really want to fix this issue as the phone would be so amazing if it didn't lag EVERYWHERE.
I think it's a combination of both : bad touchscreen and bad driver's as it seems to affect both stock, Caf and Los . I did a test with an old Samsung note 4 an iPhone 5s and a Huawei p20 Pro and it seems that there are certain "gaps" in the panel that when in usage register touches with a certain latency . This and also the sub par refresh rate. Even the old iPhone/note had better touch accuracy under heavy load.
I guess this is the price you pay for a 150 euro phone. Some corner's will be cut.

I can update the drivers from another kernel. Do you get hot spots on the A1 that you can notice (for me top right very edge)?
Honestly, I've replaced my tianma display in service centre for screen retention issue, i got ilitek ones then the display is super smooth n scrolling is smooth. it's the problem withth your display ",faulty display"

Sorry for late reply. Not really hot spots or you could call them hot spots but the are in a H pattern across the display. Also touch accuracy is abysmal.
Now I've installed Flyme OS the problem still persists that and the screen becoming tottaly unresponsive. But the proximity sensor bug it's gone, so altleast that is a good thing.
If they don't fix altleast some of the bugs in 8.1 I'm goona smash this crap phone into a wall

I think it's a bad driver or a bad digitizer. Imma try to fix it soon
You can replicate this lag 100% of the times with this "method", at least for me. Use your thumb with as much flesh touching the screen and then slowly drag your finger. You can notice the scroll lag in every direction.
Same with me, firstly, I thought it is bug of xiaomi rom, may be this will be fix with custom kernel and custom rom. But when custom rom came to mia1, try so many rom but laggy still there, really disapointed.
It is awkward that seem mia1 is the only xiaomi face with this issue. Redmi 5a - lowest price phone of Xiaomi is fine and MI5x same spec with mia1 doesn't have any complain about laggy scroll.

I discovered that if you have two fingers on the screen there's no lag. So use one finger and hold it, then start scrolling with your other thumb. 0 lag. It's gotta be a driver thing. I've been working on micro optimizing it but its gotta be something with the scanning frequency when there's only one finger. But frequency is a firmware thing and I dont think we can gen a firmware blob without a manufacturer tool. It's also possible it's a voltage thing (which I can set in the driver). I'll keep working on it but I think its definitely fixable.
Hey guys i dont know this problem, just bought one, does it easily notice?, how can i check it?
It's mostly a software issue, just flashed August nougat rom and the scroll was a little more responsive

Mi 9T Review - Your opinions?

Hello everyone, recently i picked up mi 9t. What a phone...
I can say that i am more than satisfied with how phone performs and what i got for 300 bucks. I decided to make a short video review and give my opinions about it. I am decent user which means that i am usually using my phone to browse around the web, instagram, watch youtube and some movies. I would be more than happy if you can give me your opinions and if you have any question do not hesitate to ask me. Also, i will make some ROOT/TWRP/ROM review videos so support is more than appreciated. Have a great day everyone!

I really think the Mi 9T is a great phone with the latest Urnyx Gcam without unlock the device. This phone takes beautiful night photos and using astrophotography setting compared to Miui's camera. It has been about 7 days that i own the Mi 9T. With certain reviews i have seen about how Miui's bloatware (and google) crippled the battery life can perform and by using this phone in real time. I think the phone can truly shine with custom rom or by using Miui EU Rom's. I have the 6GB version and this phone is running very smooth. Messenger can be hit or miss when answering, the front camera tends to not pop up at time. (So far 3-2 ratio of the camera popping up verus not) I jave not try gaming because i use my Mi Max 3 for that and also to keep the integrity of the Amoled display. As far as youtube goes, few videos take full potential of the whole display ratio and some not. When it does, the display is amazing.
That is my opinion about this phone. Tomm. i will be able to unlock and use the Xiami EU finally and can go further on what can this phone do.
For Xiomi.EU to work.. just format data and then enter "yes". If not force encryption will stay on and the phone will be rebooted back to TWRP Recovery. Also don't mount system when installing magisk.

Yeah, indeed.
I am also very curious how Roms are working and what can mods improve in terms of speed and battery. I cant say its not good but i think that this phone can do atleast a bit better in those terms. I applied for bootloader unlock 2 days ago, i will need to wait 5 more so i can unlock my phone and get my hands on rooting, installing twrp and so on. Ty for ur opinions.

Well i am going to use Xiaomi.EU first. I don't like the custom roms only because the gestures have lines appearing at the bottom and the bottom sides of the screen. Can only make the side arrow gestures dissappear only, on that note, i swtich to Xiaomi.EU for full finger gesture w/o them white lines appearing.
I would recommened Extended Ui Rom if you want to go in that direction.

Yes I would agree with your ROM choice from reading on XDA, but what about full screen gestures (I think it's called) in magisk modules? Doesn't that remove the lines at the bottom and make it MIUI like?

Owned couple of flagships like the oneplus 6, but i like the mi 9t a lot more. The full screen is amazing and everything just works and is fast enough... Even the battery outperforms every device i owned. The phone is a bit on the thicc side... But that isn't a bad thing.
For the price, you get more for the money.
I had one screen failure, that resulted in sending it back and received a new one after the same weekend. Suffered from "ghost touches" in the area where the statusbar sits... After a couple of days it resulted in screen failure considering the top area unusable. Now i got the new one running no problems, even the fingerprint is faster.
I have been rooting around, runned HavocOS 2.9. i really liked the rom but i preferred stock due to slightly less battery drain. The downside of rooting this device is that there is a lot of stuff scattered around xda and the rest of Internet with not the best description about for which version its made for (redmi or mi 9t) or what it modifies or does... Which resulted in flashing a stock rom that made my phone think it was a Redmi K20 instead of a Mi 9T... It did boot tho.
Now i don't do much anymore with toying and flashing around like i used to. i just use audio enhancements, certain themes and adblockers. I mainly use the phone for whatsapp, youtube, android auto and music.

After I saw notch of OnePlus 6 I understood
Thought it was tear drop notch but more like iPhone, but still.... Pretty impressed to hear that!
Looks like good customer service too, I haven't even unlocked it, it's fine for me and will personalise more when I unlock it like to icon, nothing too major cause like you I prefer stock. Better battery life is all it take for me, if the ROM is not a trash experience of course.
For me it was manageable to navigate through the threads and see what's up.
Oh and also about the description I believe it is meant to run on both, and Dev decides it to be named K20 or Mi 9T depending on their device... I'm pretty sure if you asked them to change to your device's model name they would be more than happy to help out.

The notch on the oneplus 6 was not even that bad, i liked that phone but battery life was not good enough, and i go to a lot of festivals so battery is important, and sound recording quality which also sucked.
The Mi 9T on the other hand succeeded in everything i want on a phone. Android auto works, music is good, wireless audio also, battery is very good, recording quality in both sound and video is good enough (seems cheaper devices can record more bass ).
I am not going to bother with the devs, staying stock with a few magisk mods which is enough
Btw for people trying to flash stuff on this phone, make sure to read on about encryption because it can screw you over when flashing goes wrong. And maybe use a USB OTG (or something similar) so when you soft brick your device you can still flash stuff in that way... If you're usb drive isn't encrypted
By the specs one might think that this is a great phone. Actually its the worst xiaomi phone i ever had (and i had a few). I am really disappointed by it, mainly because of the software. Many people have issues with battery drain. Mine is randomly crashing, no idea why. Sometimes it suddenly drains the battery completely within 1 hour, randomly, without any announcement. My girlfriend told me once that she tried to phone me but it woas not possible. I did not believe her first. I had no notifications about missed calls. A few weeks later i got a SMS from my mailbox service - 13 people failed to phone me.
It could be a great phone but you cannot rely on it. So it's basically useless.

I don't know if you are on stock software... But maybe try to reset or re-flash its stock firmware those problems can go away. I have no battery drain, no problems with calls either, maybe you got a faulty device like i did.
I have no problems with my device, besides returning it for screen failure once and it got replaced within a few days.

I agree, i actually miss my Note 5 Pro (6 GB version). The camera on the Mi9t has GREAT specs but it don't take too much better pics than the Note 5 (both without GCAM). Not to mention that most cameras are useless, only 2x zoom is not good enough and the other cameras are too much of a low resolution that make the pics even worse (so the cams are useless). The popup camera sound as a dream, but it isn't. It already gave problems to me (and many others) and the ONLY fix is to re flash the persist partition, where we lose DRM for Netflix. The popup also make the phone too heavy and thick for my taste. MIUI actually run smoother on the Note 5 than on the Mi9t, the community also is bigger still on the Note 5 so we have MUCH more ROMs and mods... This device has still buggy TWRP on backup and restore plus decryption error on TWRP. The amoled screen also has terrible color calibration. Oh and the fingerprint sensor is the WORSE i ever had
I'm not too happy with it. One thing i learned with the mi9t is to NEVER buy a smartphone with moving parts, either popup cameras or folding phone. It is asking for middle term problems.

That isn't a small problem, though.
Also about flashing, i see many people who brick the device for no reason
Well, had it for 2 months and sold it, and got a used Mi8 instead. I couldn't stand fingerprint scanner which is really not so good, and battery life was ok but not good enough for a 4000mAh capacity. Even with debloating, dark mode etc. there was always some drainage. Mi8 is a lot more optimized in my opinion.
Recently I dropped my Mi8 and broke the screen, and decided to skip Xiaomi for the time being due to Miui 11, which looks nice but it's animations are overkill, and they are really annoying.
Got Huawei Nova 5t instead (although I hate Huawei), but it's the one of very few devices that still has physical fps scanner, and can easily get up to 10 hrs of sot.

Good choice. Sadly, perfect device doesn't exist. I would prefer Samsung with snapdragon (in my opinion OneUI is the best skin right now), but they are too expensive. I've been checking out the new S10 Lite, seems good, probably fps sensor is cr*p as in all Sammy phones, but who knows...
The only two downsides I can think of is camera crashing in pro mode and screen which got scratched with a fingernail
What can I say about this device is that I have some mixed feelings about it... The phone it's amazingly fast, I can do anything in a few seconds, but I have a big drain on the battery... I tried every ROM possible, any battery tips, nothing seems to help me, I can barely get 4h SOT with mi band 4 constantly connected, wifi/mobile data always on, location on... Other people are getting 7-8h SOT and I can't get more than 4h SOT... I'm somehow disappointed at this chapter but I really enjoy the smoothness of this phone, the amazing photos taken by the gcam, and the support of the community. Overall it's a great phone but a great downside it's the battery life if you put the phone at work
